Getting Our Bearings

Hey everyone. So as you have surmised, I was asked (politely) to make Wednesday my last day of work at the Advertiser. Nobody should be upset with the Advertiser; they are keeping to their word and sending me on my way with what they agreed to give me. No hard feelings.

I am hopeful that Brian Woodham, who recently left a part-time gig with ITAT to take a full-time job as a copy editor at the Advertiser, will be given an opportunity to take my old job. Brian would be a great addition. I'll let you know if I hear anything about that.

As I explained on Facebook, we will have a board at AuburnSports.com with a stricter standard when it comes to cussing and any off-putting shenanigans. Personally, I'm good with the Bunker and have read it for a long time. They get a little upset when things don't go well, which is understandable, but I feel like that board's reputation for savage commentary far exceeds reality.

With that said, we will have a HABOTN-esque board over there for people whose tolerance for cussing is at zero. Just want to make that clear.

I'll be starting at AuburnSports.com on Monday.

Take care, errybody. Thanks as always for your support!

Hi Kathy!

Norm - Luv was close to or at least sympathetic to Omnica, so she didn't hang around long after that infamous event. At least, that's the way I remember it, which may or may not be reality.

Funny you should mention Luv. I just noticed this weekend that she was still in my iphone contacts (email only)

Or, like 2.0, Luv may have lost interest after the migration to Hv2.0. Some folks just prefer the simplicity of Hv1.0. Count me amongst them.

Hi Kathy,
Family is fine. LB taking a geology class to see how he likes it. 2.0 still undecided but considering a return to college next semester. I have the 2 most adorable grandpuppies, Moseley 2.5 yrs old and Ainsley, 1.3 years old. They are both so very sweet, but they are at opposite ends of the metabolic spectrum. Ainsley is like MrsTHT, always doing something. Moseley is more like me, just lays around a lot.

How's your family? Hubby come around to the AU side yet? More grandkids?

tired of scrolling tobotttom of long page on iphone?
This one of the best tips I've found on the WWW.

There is no built in way to get quickly to the bottom of a page. However, this neat trick should work. If you want to go to the bottom of any web page in Safari you can do it using a bookmark and javascript.

Using your iPhone, go to any page and save a bookmark (this one will do). Then copy the following line on your iPhone (the usual way).

javascript:window.scrollTo%280%2C100000%29

Edit the bookmark you created. Rename it something like "Go to bottom" and then replace the url with the above (paste it in).

The next time you are viewing a page and want to go to the bottom, just select that bookmark and it will take you to the bottom of the page.

I'm going to need a HUGE bowl of ice cream to bury the misery of watching our AWFUL team play. I've turned it to the ABC game. If it was up to me, and thankfully it is not, I wouldn't wait til the end of the season to fire our special teams coach. Heck, I wouldn't even wait until the end of the half.

Thank goodness 2.0 made a bunch of delicious brownies to complement the ice cream and chocolate syrup.

7:53 PM

I too switched to the ABC game and was ultimately disappointed in that one too. I had no brownies or ice cream to help make up for things. My team and my wife failed me that night.

ouch! That's painful, Norm.

Thankfully, the ice cream-and-brownie-induced coma prevented me from suffering through the U's 2nd half failure.

Our team is just awful. I've never seen a defense regress so much during a season. I'm still PO'd at Scott Fountain for not having a regular defense on the field against FSU last year when the entire world new FSU could not afford to punt and end up down 28-3 at the half. His faux pas against UGA's punt team in the first half didn't help his case.

just don't break wind.

Let's all break bread and wash it down with brake fluid.

8:38 PM
Blogger ArtVanDelay said...

I'm fluid in all three: breaking bread, dancing, and wind.

and I'm not a robot

7:31 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Art, if there's fluid with your wind breaking, you've made a big mess.

Speaking of stinky subjects, AU's football season, for example...

Now we're talking!
Belk (December 30 in Charlotte, NC): Notre Dame (ACC) vs. Auburn (SEC)

I'd be ok with that.

10:06 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

What do the following 4 bowls have in common, besides a SEC team, i.e. potentially Auburn?

Liberty Bowl
Music City Bowl
Peach Bowl
Tax/Gator Bowl

10:19 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

They are all scheduled during the middle of a work day! How stupid is that?!

Give me Liberty, you might as well give me death. AU needs to play a different tune than Nashville. There's nothing peachy about Atlanta this year. Taxslayer or Fanslayer, what's the difference?

10:23 AM
Blogger THT said...

I see CFL and Grey Cup MVPs in Nick Marshall's future.

Of course, I also saw Zeke Pike as the next great AU QB a few years ago, so maybe it will be NFL instead of CFL.

New DC will be announced on ________.

What say ye?

7:12 PM
Blogger michael said...

July 9, 2022. So, within the next couple of weeks.

1:53 AM
Blogger THT said...

That would be soooo ironic!

3:35 PM
Blogger THT said...

Roof? No thanks.

I'd rather Gus hire Chiz.

Why on earth do they mention Pelini? That's just stupid. Gus is more likely to hire Saban as his DC.

I suppose Boom will do.

6:43 PM
Blogger michael said...

Have you emailed Gus you're OK with Boom? I think that's what he's waiting on.

11:20 AM
Blogger Norm said...

I faxed Gus and told him I'm ok with Boom. I'm sure that'll make the difference.

Well, Norm, at least you got it back to an even post count.

Aaaarrrrgggghhhhhhh. Look what you've made me do!

btw, I hope they don't jack up ticket prices to pay all the coaches who aren't coaching. At $210K PER MONTH, I hope they have Chizik picking up trash on campus or at least doing something. Can't they make him be DC?

9:01 AM
Blogger THT said...

Fax? You faxed it?! For heavens sake, don't you know the fax machine isn't turned on until February 4?!

Without your input, Gus is going to wallow in muddy indecision for another two months

9:06 AM
Blogger Norm said...

That might ordinarily be true and I understand your concern. However, I have a special fax number available to me.

10:58 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Norm, I read in the newspaper that former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates tore that fax line out.

Yes, here's the quote:
"I was touring a Joint Special Ops Command in Troy and discovered a direct line to somebody in the Athletic Department, and I had them tear it out while I was standing there,” he said.

Yes, Gus is still wallowing, as evident by the absence of a DC hire. AU and Obama apparently have a lot in common when it comes to keeping DCs.

Wow, Nebraska really hit a homerun today, a 61 year old bammer whose best season is no better than Pelini's worst.

4:02 PM
Blogger Norm said...

"Faux Bo Pelini" has been a great follow on the twitter machine.

8:17 AM
Blogger michael said...

Just the fax, ma'am.

8:39 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I just knew we'd get there sooner or later. Anyone who placed their money on later holds a winning ticket.

As they come down the home stretch, later has an 18 length lead on sooner and is pulling away.

I think later will be here sooner than Christmas.

NY drops the big ball thing, Atlanta drops a peach, Raleigh drops the big acorn, and Brasstown, NC, drops the possum.

Michael, Queen of HABOTN, what will HABOTN drop on this upcoming grand occasion?

Ahhh, the aroma is already drifting this way.

9:21 AM
Blogger Cincytiger said...

Just popping in to say hello. And to mess up THT's even count! I hate football when Auburn isn't playing.

6:24 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Hey CIncytiger!

Don't worry, I can fix it.

And the aroma grows stronger. Will there be fireworks, silly string, and balloons at the first 4K flip in HABOTN history? What about hot dogs? Will there be hot dogs?

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Wow! We've ventured into the unknown on HABOTN. I expected to find Captain Kirk here.

11:41 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

...of course, that was about as silly as expecting Norm to be attentive to his page flip duties. Well, maybe not that silly.

11:43 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

At first i thought you said "silly as expecting Norm to be attractive."

Either one would work.

12:05 PM
Blogger michael said...

Captain Kirk you say? That nerd uses stardates.

12:11 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I don't even know what a stardate is. But, hey, I can find Orion's belt. So I got that going for me.

I'd rather they get a blood sample from Freddie Smith and isolate his LB gene, then replicate it and inject it into all of our LBs.

He has Lord Byron's genes? Have you been doing gene experimentation with your own family, THT?

Then on the way to Pineville, we spent about 20 miles in a feather blizzard until we finally caught and passed the chicken truck. I felt so badly for those poor freezing chickens.

7:25 PM
Blogger michael said...

Sure, the texture may lose some quality, but there are worse things in the world than frozen chickens. It is really one of the more freezable meats if you ask me.

4:47 PM

you can freeze tigon meat, but you can't thaw it. Just a little morsel of knowledge from my experimental genetics cooking class.

"tigon"? I thought it was "liger"? Either way, WTH are you talking about that you can't thaw it?

9:51 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

When you have Chiz over for dinner, what are you gonna talk about, THT? Maybe you guys should look at the map that shows where the drifter is buried. He might have some insight.

12:41 PM
Blogger THT said...

if I'm not mistaken, Chiz buried his head coaching career in that same corner of the endzone. Definitely going to be a lively conversation!
