Getting Our Bearings
I am hopeful that Brian Woodham, who recently left a part-time gig with ITAT to take a full-time job as a copy editor at the Advertiser, will be given an opportunity to take my old job. Brian would be a great addition. I'll let you know if I hear anything about that.
As I explained on Facebook, we will have a board at AuburnSports.com with a stricter standard when it comes to cussing and any off-putting shenanigans. Personally, I'm good with the Bunker and have read it for a long time. They get a little upset when things don't go well, which is understandable, but I feel like that board's reputation for savage commentary far exceeds reality.
With that said, we will have a HABOTN-esque board over there for people whose tolerance for cussing is at zero. Just want to make that clear.
I'll be starting at AuburnSports.com on Monday.
Take care, errybody. Thanks as always for your support!

drum and cymbal
And whatever happened to "luv"? Anyone? Anyone?
I don't know
Hi Kathy!
Norm - Luv was close to or at least sympathetic to Omnica, so she didn't hang around long after that infamous event. At least, that's the way I remember it, which may or may not be reality.
Funny you should mention Luv. I just noticed this weekend that she was still in my iphone contacts (email only)
Or, like 2.0, Luv may have lost interest after the migration to Hv2.0. Some folks just prefer the simplicity of Hv1.0. Count me amongst them.
Tip for all you pin-ballers...
My best scores were always obtained with this playing over the arcade sound system. I highly recommend it. Almost 40 years later, I still haven't heard the banjo in that song.
THT, you could just read and post on the Daily Thread. Then it would sorta, kinda, maybe seem like 1.0. We love you, we need you, we want you. Am I groveling yet?
Why is my connection to the Outlook Server continually dropping and reconnecting? It's annoying dadgumit.
And another dang thing, there is no "Outlook Server", it's Exchange yet the error message says "Outlook Server". Just plain dumb on top of aggravating.
Are you using The Weather Channel for internet as well?
pin-ballers, outlook servers, and exchanges. in the words of Vince Lombardi, "what the hell is goin on here!"
Anyone who can quote Vince Lombardi has my highest respect and admiration, whether or not such person has page flip skills.
I got Coach Lombardi's autograph while riding up an elevator in a Baltimore hotel in December 1966.
Cincy - there are enough threads here to keep me occupied.
Besides, I don't even know where to find that Daily Thread place.
yessiree, I'm switching to T-Mobile.
Is that I bad idea? Perhaps. But at least I'll be able to receive calls on my cell phone at home, something that has been impossible for years with Verizon and AT&T.
Of course, I'm making an assumption that a phone call via wifi actually works.
NEW THREAD UPZ!
NEW THREAD UPZ!
Just got a text from 2.0 telling me that my "phone is going to be shipped to out house".
I'm old school. I still don't need a phone there.
OLD THREAD DOWN!
Why don't you need a phone in the out house THT? You prefer crossword puzzles?
phone may not ship for 2 months. I may just have to hold it!
I gotta TV, computer, nerf-hoop, library, deck of cards (for solitaire, obviously) and pinball machine in there. I don't have time for phone calls.
How's your family THT? Any more new grand dogs?
Hi Kathy,
Family is fine. LB taking a geology class to see how he likes it. 2.0 still undecided but considering a return to college next semester. I have the 2 most adorable grandpuppies, Moseley 2.5 yrs old and Ainsley, 1.3 years old. They are both so very sweet, but they are at opposite ends of the metabolic spectrum. Ainsley is like MrsTHT, always doing something. Moseley is more like me, just lays around a lot.
How's your family? Hubby come around to the AU side yet? More grandkids?
I just realized, I missed the chatroll HABOTN campfire last night. Woe is me! I'm guessing everyone else missed it, too, since no one mentioned it. I was asleep by 8 pm. The consecutive up-til-the-wee-hour nights caught up to me.
I was there at the Campfiyah last night. It got pretty crazy.

That sure is some kind of crazy!
I must admit, Three Times as Bad has been on continuous replay in my brain for the past few days. Not because of any personal experience with said subject matter, but 'cause I just love that ol' bluesy sound.
Someone's going 'round deleting campfiyah archives. We had a bunch of attendees first week of September, and I at least drop some kind of knowledge in there each Thursday.
I don't know who's responsible, but I have some suspects.
Tupelo Honey song >>>>>>>> honey.
For those of you who think any honey is better than sourwood honey, your taste buds should be ashamed.
i've never had sourwood honey, so I can't say. But I did have some honey where the bees had been hanging around blueberries, and it was really really good.
I never understood how the people who steal bees' honey know exactly where the bees got the honey ingredients.
That reminds me, wasn't there a HABOTN discussion of bees' knees a while back?
Man, I so clearly picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.
Uh oh. I forgot to put the campfire out last night before I left. There are probably acres of embers by now.
Acres of embers, eh? Man, must have been really out of control. I bet David Hasselhoff showed up again, didn't he?
I heard this on NPR the other day and thought of you, THT. Sounds like a cool map!
http://www.npr.org/2014/09/17/349329479/multispectral-imaging-could-reveal-secrets-of-martellus-map
I just looked at the picture of it on wikipedia, and that map is terrible! People in the 1400s were idiots.
This 1503 map is also kind of weird, but aside from the cartography, I really like that hot chick wearing eyeglasses who plays the part of the NE wind.
That is definitely a cool map.
I'm gonna go ahead and admit this: old maps are cool. I guess that THT isn't a nut after all.
How many maps depicting California as an island in the Pacific do you own?
I think one of those winds shoulda been coming out of a butt.
Norm - one; every map collector has to have at least one. Glen McLaughlin collected a lot more.
Art - I could readily provide said wind.
Michael - MrsTHT says maps being cool and me being a nut are not mutually exclusive.

Well that one is much better.
j;df;epuwr is the only thing that comes to mind.
You lost me.
my flexible iPhone 6 Plus is going to arrive tomorrow. FSJ would be proud of me.
I know you wear really tight pants, THT. Be careful sitting down with that iphone on!
When Sullivan's iphone bent, he sent it straight to
3BEASLEY!!0 for repair.
3BEASLEY!!!1 would love the amazing campfiyah we have going right now.
Indeed he would.
I'm freaked out about post 3888. There will be two Beasleys embedded, but they are not independent. How would 3BEASLEY!!3 handle this situation?!!?
You're worried about 3888 while I'm wandering around the house trying not to step on my eyeglasses. I guess if I could see well enough to find them, I wouldn't need them. But I can't, so I do. A little help, please?
whew! I just kicked them instead of stepping on them. They were on the rug in the foyer. Long story, too long for Firefox. I'm headed back over to Chrome.
sup?
Michael - ignoring the 3, I see just one BEASLEY!!! and one Jerry
I doubt I'll ever again order Mexican food at a restaurant. There's just no way it can compare with 2.0's Mexican cuisine.
So is your account for "THT" easier to access when you are blind than your normal "Tar Heel Tiger" account?
I wonder how many accounts 3BEASLBEYASLEY!! has.
the THT account is on my braille computer.
They have maps for that
tired of scrolling tobotttom of long page on iphone?
This one of the best tips I've found on the WWW.
There is no built in way to get quickly to the bottom of a page. However, this neat trick should work. If you want to go to the bottom of any web page in Safari you can do it using a bookmark and javascript.
Using your iPhone, go to any page and save a bookmark (this one will do). Then copy the following line on your iPhone (the usual way).
javascript:window.scrollTo%280%2C100000%29
Edit the bookmark you created. Rename it something like "Go to bottom" and then replace the url with the above (paste it in).
The next time you are viewing a page and want to go to the bottom, just select that bookmark and it will take you to the bottom of the page.
Favored? By 9?! I don't get that at all. We can't run up the middle. Both starting linebackers are "day to day". We haven't beaten LSU much at all this century. I could never bet against AU, so I'm very glad I'm not a betting person.
Auburn wins by 14 at least. It's in the bag.
I hope your bag isn't a wet paper sack
Of course not! It's a damp paper sack.
LB to MrsTHT, "Mom, why did you look for a husband in the Special Ed class?"
Guess who gets to spend the day in Old Salem?
Neener neener neener
I bet THT feels like Rodney Dangerfield behind that keyboard.
I tell ya, I don't get no respect
I have something to admit: I missed the Campfiyah last night. First one I have ever missed. Been in perfect attendance since 2008, every single Thursday, without eception. I am so ashamed.
Since you weren't there, I didn't bother to attend, either. I'll be back next week.
MrsTHT and I have made it SW of Atlanta and can't wait to be in the Loveliest Village tomorrow.

Told you there was nuttin to worry bout, THT.
We got to see Kathy and the entire Cincytiger family on Saturday. It was a GREAT day.
Michael, I hope you have another damp paper sack ready for this coming Saturday!
Great seeing you and the Mrs too!
What a great game! So glad the fans stayed and were loud for 4 qtrs.
Ole Miss & MSU sharing SI cover this week. Come on, Jinx, do your thing!
Yo Yo Ma
MrsTHT and I saw that Yo Yo in Pittsburgh c1992. I had culture back then, but that was a long time ago.
just cause I like even numbers.
Still, that whole 39-- bothers me. It's not even enough.
that campfire was hot as a furnace last night! I don't think you could have crammed more than 9 additional people around the blazing timber.
Those cowbells are so annoying at GameDay. I hope AU quiets them quickly this afternoon.
Today made me think we're just like Harvard
we're not breaking in a new offense or new QB, so there's no excuse. Let's face it, without a blocking back, our O-line is highly mediocre and incapable of creating running lanes between the tackles. I think C A-P's yd/carry between tackles can be measured in nanometers. I wish they had given up on the running game and gone pass crazy with Jeremy Johnson. We'll be lucky to get to 8-4.
What do you think, THT?
Definitely agree on the blocking H back. Who do you see as the remaining 3 Doc? My expert analysis puts both uga and um as toss-ups currently.
uga, um, and one (or two) of sc/aTm/ua-t
Malzahn says Auburn has 'toughest last half of the season of anybody in college football'
That's coach speak for,
"We're expecting to finish 7-5."
I think we will see one more loss.
It better not be against bama.
1:30 a.m. on a mid October night, it's 75 degrees. YUCK!
THT's ideal climate:
Winter avg Hi/Lo = 38/22
Summer avg Hi/Lo = 68/56
All seasons = grits, biscuits, and cornbread
any chance they'll use the bye week to find a blocking back? Is "Drago" too tall or too slow to get a shot at it? What's the scoop on Toney? SOMEBODY GET ME AN H-BACK!
Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh 7:30 p.m. ESPN
Coloroado School of Mines at Fort Lewis 8:00 p.m. CBS Sports Network
Utah at Oregon State 10:00 p.m. PAC-12 Network
(all times EDT)
I'm not sure any of those are campfire-worthy, but I will definitely check out the CSM @ FL game.
I'll have to miss the campfiyah tonight. I got a flag football game to coach.
You missed another great campfire. Topics included Penguins suckage, Orediggers, and John L. Smith.
CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMPFIYAH!!!
Every one who attended the campfire thought it was awesome.
A good time was had by one.
There's an Ebro joke in there somewhere
I heart access.
I love Fall weather. Almost as much as I love Winter weather.
2.0 and I can attest to the awesomeness of a Pig in a Puppy. We stopped at King's last night on the way home from New Bern for our very first Pig in a Puppy. I've got to ask Hursey's if they can replicate that marvelous concoction of barbecue, slaw, and giant hushpuppy.
Hey THT, guess what? I've been mixing in avacado with vanilla ice cream, and it is delicious. My wife thinks I'm crazy/gross (what else is new?), but I'm tellin ya, it eats pretty good.
2.0 says a frozen avocado is the consistency of ice cream and is delicious.
I think both of y'all are too weird. I do not eat avocado frozen, thawed, boiled, fried, or in any other manner.
Michael is clearly a hipster doofus.
and I'm a not robot now!
Avocado...yuckado. Am I right people?
Norm is spot on, as usual.
Lots of activity on the threads today.
avocados and tomatos, I can live without em.
You see this, THT?
http://t.co/HqlTwppySf
thanks for the heads up, Michael. I was just reminiscing about the great Beasley this morning.
And no, not all Hv1.0 threads have an even number post count.
But this one does.
I back into the garage because I think it is easier than backing out. Easier access to the battery because I leave the keys in the ignition overnight is not the reason.
Punts forced by AU defense = ZERO
4th down AU Defensive efficiency = 16.7%
I'm still not confident that we'll be ranked at the end of the season. I just don't feel it. I hope I'm wrong.
Hugh Freeze, what were you thinking?
Doc is not a responsible car owner and a negative ninny.

I think you've made your point.
I think you've made your point. Now, if I could just find the "publish comment" button. Where did it go?
Aha! (Now that I've stuck their song in your head) The Publish Your Comment button apparently is "insecure." Sort of like me. The prison by default blocks insecure content
Who's up for a road trip to sit on the Hayward Fault on Sept. 19, 2020?
I can't. I'll be in Hindsight at the time.
So, tell us more about your regrettable tattoo.
All those broken video feeds to the replay booth when all they really needed was a regular tv tuned to the game on ABC. Well, that and a gigantic play clock or eyeglasses for the refs.
Penn State gets screwed.
THIRD?!!! Shirley, you can't be serious.
I just got a tattoo that says "AU IS #3 IN THE FIRST EVER CFB PLAYOFF RANKINGS! EAT IT BAMMERS!!"
I go to vote today and they hand me a ballot pre-marked for all the Democratic candidates. Yes, that really happened. I'm guessing the replacement ballot I requested ended up in the shredder.
The dude handing out ballots looked like he was either stoned (most likely in this town) or a legitimate imbecile.
Michael, you really had that fire blazin last night. Oh wait, that was this morning.
The BuyMore Beatdown is in full effect. I'm way too old for this.
I'd burn that voting place down. to the ground.
Where's that Frank Zappa fan with his flare gun when you need him?
Now how on earth am I supposed to know that, THT?
For crying out loud, Michael, you are the King of Eurasia! You should know where all your peeps are.
3 cheers for Kiehl Frazier and Ouachita Baptist University!
To hell with the peeps, where's my flare gun?
Norm, just because you cried out loud doesn't mean you are now the king of LA. That monarch-determining behavior only applies to Eurasia.
But, to answer your question, check the top shelf of your garage, or maybe behind the seat of your truck.
Saw this Tarnished Heels billboard 15 miles outside of Chapel Hill on the drive home yesterday.
Ouch!
We're undefeated when we don't turn the ball over on our first offensive play. Since it's impossible to run a play without snapping the ball, I hope Gus chooses the next best option. For the first play of his script, have NM spike the ball or take a knee. That should guarantee a win.
Zone read from the 2? Seriously?
I was led to believe this game was in the bag. I'm disappointed in that.
I'm sorry if you misinterpreted any bag talk as a claim that the game would be an automatic win.
I'm sorry I didn't expect any other posts today. I guess I'm left with

Seems appropriate for me. Zone read from the 2 yard line? Seriously? What were they thinking? Are we headed to the Outback Bowl?
What if you're a robot who can read?
It's not the reading that gets them, it's the typing.

I can't believe no one is predicting an AU vs ND bowl game :( The good news? No one is predicting an AU vs Duke bowl game.
Brett McMurphy, ESPN: Outback Bowl vs. Nebraska
Mark Schlabach, ESPN: TaxSlayer Bowl vs. Minnesota

In THT's bowl: ice cream.
I'm going to need a HUGE bowl of ice cream to bury the misery of watching our AWFUL team play. I've turned it to the ABC game. If it was up to me, and thankfully it is not, I wouldn't wait til the end of the season to fire our special teams coach. Heck, I wouldn't even wait until the end of the half.
Thank goodness 2.0 made a bunch of delicious brownies to complement the ice cream and chocolate syrup.
I too switched to the ABC game and was ultimately disappointed in that one too. I had no brownies or ice cream to help make up for things. My team and my wife failed me that night.
ouch! That's painful, Norm.
Thankfully, the ice cream-and-brownie-induced coma prevented me from suffering through the U's 2nd half failure.
Our team is just awful. I've never seen a defense regress so much during a season. I'm still PO'd at Scott Fountain for not having a regular defense on the field against FSU last year when the entire world new FSU could not afford to punt and end up down 28-3 at the half. His faux pas against UGA's punt team in the first half didn't help his case.
That was an exciting campfire last night. We may have to break down and sign up for Chatroll's large capacity plan.
Or maybe just break down.
Yep, that's the ticket.
I can break dance. Will that help?
just don't break wind.
Let's all break bread and wash it down with brake fluid.
I'm fluid in all three: breaking bread, dancing, and wind.
and I'm not a robot
Art, if there's fluid with your wind breaking, you've made a big mess.
Speaking of stinky subjects, AU's football season, for example...
Now we're talking!
Belk (December 30 in Charlotte, NC): Notre Dame (ACC) vs. Auburn (SEC)
I'd be ok with that.
What do the following 4 bowls have in common, besides a SEC team, i.e. potentially Auburn?
Liberty Bowl
Music City Bowl
Peach Bowl
Tax/Gator Bowl
They are all scheduled during the middle of a work day! How stupid is that?!
Give me Liberty, you might as well give me death. AU needs to play a different tune than Nashville. There's nothing peachy about Atlanta this year. Taxslayer or Fanslayer, what's the difference?
I see CFL and Grey Cup MVPs in Nick Marshall's future.
Of course, I also saw Zeke Pike as the next great AU QB a few years ago, so maybe it will be NFL instead of CFL.
New DC will be announced on ________.
What say ye?
July 9, 2022. So, within the next couple of weeks.
That would be soooo ironic!
Roof? No thanks.
I'd rather Gus hire Chiz.
Why on earth do they mention Pelini? That's just stupid. Gus is more likely to hire Saban as his DC.
I suppose Boom will do.
Have you emailed Gus you're OK with Boom? I think that's what he's waiting on.
I faxed Gus and told him I'm ok with Boom. I'm sure that'll make the difference.

Well, Norm, at least you got it back to an even post count.
Aaaarrrrgggghhhhhhh. Look what you've made me do!
btw, I hope they don't jack up ticket prices to pay all the coaches who aren't coaching. At $210K PER MONTH, I hope they have Chizik picking up trash on campus or at least doing something. Can't they make him be DC?
Fax? You faxed it?! For heavens sake, don't you know the fax machine isn't turned on until February 4?!
Without your input, Gus is going to wallow in muddy indecision for another two months
That might ordinarily be true and I understand your concern. However, I have a special fax number available to me.
Norm, I read in the newspaper that former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates tore that fax line out.
Yes, here's the quote:
"I was touring a Joint Special Ops Command in Troy and discovered a direct line to somebody in the Athletic Department, and I had them tear it out while I was standing there,” he said.
Yes, Gus is still wallowing, as evident by the absence of a DC hire. AU and Obama apparently have a lot in common when it comes to keeping DCs.
Wow, Nebraska really hit a homerun today, a 61 year old bammer whose best season is no better than Pelini's worst.
"Faux Bo Pelini" has been a great follow on the twitter machine.
Just the fax, ma'am.
I just knew we'd get there sooner or later. Anyone who placed their money on later holds a winning ticket.
As they come down the home stretch, later has an 18 length lead on sooner and is pulling away.
I think later will be here sooner than Christmas.
NY drops the big ball thing, Atlanta drops a peach, Raleigh drops the big acorn, and Brasstown, NC, drops the possum.
Michael, Queen of HABOTN, what will HABOTN drop on this upcoming grand occasion?
Ahhh, the aroma is already drifting this way.
Just popping in to say hello. And to mess up THT's even count! I hate football when Auburn isn't playing.
Hey CIncytiger!
Don't worry, I can fix it.
And the aroma grows stronger. Will there be fireworks, silly string, and balloons at the first 4K flip in HABOTN history? What about hot dogs? Will there be hot dogs?
Hard to be festive when someone you respect misses 39BEASLEY!!!!!!!!
I was fully cognizant of such a potentially misleading post.

THT, you have clearly confused 39BEASLEY with BEASLEYx39. I feel like all the work we've done over here over the years was for nothing!
looks like we're gettin pretty close to one of those page turn thingys.
I seem to do a lot of work for nothing in other places, too.
NORM!!!
WHERE'S NORM?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
BOOM!
Got tired of waiting on Norm.
Wow! We've ventured into the unknown on HABOTN. I expected to find Captain Kirk here.
...of course, that was about as silly as expecting Norm to be attentive to his page flip duties. Well, maybe not that silly.
At first i thought you said "silly as expecting Norm to be attractive."
Either one would work.
Captain Kirk you say? That nerd uses stardates.
I don't even know what a stardate is. But, hey, I can find Orion's belt. So I got that going for me.
depressing
"I see Orion and say nothing"
-Thomas Jefferson
Alright, you flipped it. Good on ya. And I am attractive. I'm dashingly handsome. It's incredible really.
BOOOOOOOM!!!
...um, wait just a minute. T-Rob may be coming home. Which current defensive assistants are going to fall prey to collateral damage?
Until we have Takeo Spikes on staff, it's all a failure in my book.
I'd rather they get a blood sample from Freddie Smith and isolate his LB gene, then replicate it and inject it into all of our LBs.
He has Lord Byron's genes? Have you been doing gene experimentation with your own family, THT?
No experimentation, Lord Byron's just been out cattin' around.
we have hereditary diarrhea; it runs in our jeans.
of course I'm doing experimentation to find a cure
our laundry bill is overwhelming
beautiful snowfall for almost 3 hours this morning. Unfortunately, it was too warm for it to stick around.
Then on the way to Pineville, we spent about 20 miles in a feather blizzard until we finally caught and passed the chicken truck. I felt so badly for those poor freezing chickens.
Sure, the texture may lose some quality, but there are worse things in the world than frozen chickens. It is really one of the more freezable meats if you ask me.
you can freeze tigon meat, but you can't thaw it. Just a little morsel of knowledge from my experimental genetics cooking class.
I hope y'all had a wonderful Independence Day and didn't blow any digits off your hands or feet.
Just dropping in to say Happy New Year to the THT family!
I have the digits that I have. let's just leave it at that.
Thanks, Kathy!
We are approaching the 5th anniversary of the World Famous HABOTN Outback Bowl Extravaganza. Good times were had by all... or by some... maybe.
2006 Citrus Bowl on ESPN2 right now.
The Chiz and I are going to be neighbors!
"tigon"? I thought it was "liger"? Either way, WTH are you talking about that you can't thaw it?
When you have Chiz over for dinner, what are you gonna talk about, THT? Maybe you guys should look at the map that shows where the drifter is buried. He might have some insight.
if I'm not mistaken, Chiz buried his head coaching career in that same corner of the endzone. Definitely going to be a lively conversation!
I got to remember to quit visiting this site with Firefox.
And I just proved I wasn't a robot. I mean, I know I don't have the greatest social skills but, seriously, this thing still thinks I'm a robot?!
Yeah. Well. Jokes on Google, because I AM a robot. SUCKAS!
and an idiot.
