here and here. Oh, and of course, from here.

Fortunately, there are more reputable sources, like here, and here, or <a href="http://www.maprecord.com/Dealers_International.html>this place</a>.

<i>And do people actively hunt for rare maps?</i>
I rarely hunt for them while I'm sleeping.

aurenje rhymes with orange, but I'm not sure what it is.

Rucker Agee Map Collection at Birmingham Public Library was one of the earliest collections in the country digitized and put on the internet. The original web site alabamamaps.ua.edu (yes that other school's smelly domain) has a nice index page but still uses the original and extremely painful to use display software.

The BPL now has the digitized maps on their domain, but is completely unorganized and uses only a slightly better viewing software.

Snow's cholera map is not the earliest thematic map (not even close), but it is the most well known one in the "map world".

In other news, looks like you'll now have to write-in CTT's name on the ballot.

talk about demoralizing. Instead of a 3-0 series lead, Penguins now lead 2-1 and will likely be without their best player the rest of what could be a very abbreviated postseason. They have already been without their best defenseman for more than a month and without their starting goalie since the last week of the season. At one point last night, 3 of their forwards were knocked out of the game with injuries; only one of them returned later in the game. There was so much empty space on their bench they should have sold seats there.

7:37 AM
Blogger michael said...

I noticed errybody on Twitter freaking out about the Penguins game. Maybe you should pick a new team for the rest of the playoffs. That's what I do when the Grizz get knocked out. Go Cavs!

Reading your link, THT, and the story had this line:

"There is no sorrier sight in the Stanley Cup playoffs than to watch the world's best player struggle to skate off the ice, not knowing the severity of his injury but certain that he won't return."

Since it is a hockey article, I know it's pronounced "soar-ier." Buncha Canadians.

I'm guessing none of y'all watched Edmonton & Anaheim the other night? Absolutely awesome rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, a cappella, by the capacity crowd.. IN EDMONTON. The singer's mic didn't work, so he yelled out to the crowd to start singing. They did it waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than we would do with our own anthem, much less a neighbor's anthem. Absolutely amazine, eh?

I was in Montreal 2 months ago and not a one of them spoke Canadian. I heard French, English, and even a little Greek, but no Canadian. The lines to get through customs may have been a ruse to make me think I actually had left the country.

You're right, I unfortunately have never met her. Good to see she's still doing well.

I feel like her publicist is not very good. If you can monetize Honey Boo Boo, I think Jan Terri can go far.

I thought "Dinosaur before my time" would be a great Jan Terri song.

Remember how we talked about trying to find a centered media outlet, MJT?

I started following The Economist. As they were considered right leaning by that liberal chart. They've not been real keen on Trump of late. I'm not sure if I need to go further right or Trump is not that good at this.

8:59 AM
Blogger michael said...

I'll give em a follow.

It's really hard to judge a media outlet on their handling of Trump. He is a democrat who ran as a republican who is an idiot and a winner and a guy used to living and working with zero accountability. Most of his support by repubs is pragmatic in nature, so it's been interesting to see who has stuck with Trump and who hasn't.

Unless something weird happens, I expect the repubs will get absolutely slaughtered in the midterms. Trump will probably switch parties and be signing single payer health care reform in 2019.

9:16 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Sounds plausible.

10:02 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Y'all should just watch FoxNews. Everything else is fake.

The Economist is run by a bunch of liberal foreigners who should keep their nose out of our business (and vice versa). Other than that, I know absolutely nothing about it. Never seen it, never read it. But hey, who needs knowledge to form a sound opinion?

10:28 AM
Blogger michael said...

LOL like I'd ever "watch" news.

MrsTHT DVRs the nightly news! The closest I come to watching news is "NHL Overtime" on NBCSN

Blogger bubbs said...

Once in a blue moon I'll turn on the TV and catch some (local) news. I usually get frustrated from how many breaks there are to commercial. And at the end of it, I feel like I didn't really learn anything.

You'd think by now everything ever written or published would be available in a text searchable format on the internet. Alas, looks like I will waste a lot of time tomorrow scrolling through the 1767-1782 microfilms of Felix Farley's Bristol Journal. Feel free to join me and we'll get done a lot quicker.

Lady walks in to the Buy More and starts telling the clerk about a bad headache after attending a mime conference. Yes, a MIME conference. When she got home from the conference she engaged in other activities that did not require speech (of which she provided waaaaaaaaaaay more details than necessary) and the headache got worse. I think she needs an aspirin. Bubbs, I can send you her phone number.

1:46 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Probably more up MJT's alley. Didn't he kill all the mimes? Sounds like he missed a few.

I got hit in the nose playing basketball last Sunday, and I've had a headache since then. Did she mime playing basketball?

2:23 PM

Maybe it's a tumor, MJT.

Hmm. Well, now I'm just confused. I was starting to suspect there were was scoring in her game. But no baskets ... I dunno.

2:26 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

No, once she left the conference she wasn't allowed to use any gestures at all. She could only speak and thankfully, it wasn't to me.

Hey Cincy,

How long have you gone to MBCC?

Bubbs, about 11 years. We started there when we moved to B'ham. Are you going there? Did I miss seeing you?

10:10 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Used to go there. Not quite 20 years ago. Was wondering if we had unknowingly crossed paths a long time ago without knowing it.

Living in Leeds, it's a bit too long of a haul for it to be in consideration. Also ended up becoming Presbyterian (PCA - think Briarwood).

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

MrsTHT and I were members of BPC for 12 months. I'll never forget Frank Barker using scripture to describe the 1983 Iron Bowl the morning after the game. He got a big AMEN!

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Why are y'all making me watch the Penguins tonight? Do y'all not have an ounce of decency?

7:41 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

ok, now I see why. Penguins really gutted that one out. Unfortunately, two more Penguins suffered significant injuries very early in the game. Penguins were already without their two best defensemen and now their 3rd best may have broken his collarbone. At that point, I told 2.0 that The Flower would have to be perfect, and he was, getting his 10th career playoff shutout. I'm afraid he'll still need to be perfect.

Glad the Pens are doing well, THT. Hope the Auburn ball teams can do well this weekend.

Bubbs, you must have gone to MBCC when they were on Montevallo Road. We have been out on 280 for about 15 years? Just celebrated our 25th anniversary of being a church. We are on the old Southeastern Bible College campus, which used to be the Briarwood Presby Campus. MBCC feels like a Presbyterian Church, most awesome church I have ever attended. Was Tim Kallam the pastor when you attended? We used to drive 30 minutes from Chelsea to attend, sure is nice to be 5 minutes away now.

Where are you hoping to move if you sell your house?

9:21 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Yep, they were still over there when we attended. Tim was, indeed, the pastor at the time. Being 5 minutes away is a much better situation. It can be hard to stay connected with folks during the week when you're too far away. Glad you're a part of that body!

If the house sells, we want to stay in the Leeds school system. We talked about starting over. Looked at moving out West/North West. We knew it was either that or stay in our community and find something that's a little bigger so there's room to breath as the kids start becoming teens. After some back and forth we decided to stay. It's a much more manageable task, but I'm sad I'll continue to experience Alabama summers. :(

10:08 AM
Blogger michael said...

Leeds school system? Thought yall were homeschoolers. Didn't think you cared about those devil schools.

THT, the Penguins have the Stanley Cup in the bag.

10:25 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Since you asked. Some background: bubbs attended public, private and home schooled growing up. Mrs. bubbs was a home schooler. Likely the reason I was able to scoop her up. She was young and naive.

The oldest home schools. That's what you're remembering. Remember we had that Dyslexia and Dyscalculia discussion a while back?

The other three go to the devil's learning system.

THT, the Pens will probably never win another game.

10:34 AM

Well if you'd just accept my friendship request on facebook I wouldn't have to remember all this.

It rains a bit but they otherwise have nice weather.

1:10 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

If we went international, I don't think England would be my first choice.

1:28 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I like England because they speak American. You could do a lot worse.

2:53 PM
Blogger Cincytiger said...

When you said west or north/west, I thought you were talking about Gardendale! I didn't know you were talking about changing states. You know you don't want to go so far away from Auburn football. :)

Kathryn and Aaron have bought 5 acres in Irondale, just outside the Mountain Brook city limits. They are going to continue to homeschool. so no worries with school districts. They want to build, but are unsure about timing. Thinking they may wait a year and a half or so until Aaron makes partner. They would be able to better afford what they want to build. They really want the kids to have room to run around in the woods.

3:04 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

And a bit better.

3:07 PM
Blogger michael said...

Land would be cool, but I'm never moving again if I can help it. Moving stinks. I'll just stick to the suburbs we're at.

We're in Alabama, woods are never more than 100 yards away anyway. If they want to bad enough they'll find them some woods.

5:13 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I would like to own land, but like a LOT of land. I would want to make it a homestead and be a mile from any other folks. But that would require more wealth than I ever see me having.

Yeah, when I said "start over" I meant it. Massive change. But that didn't happen. Closer to AU but also closer to all these bammers. bleh.

Irondale is just down the road. Maybe we'll end up running into each other here and there!

THT, I figured I could just pretend we're moving into a Leeds house. Tell the wife we got that house over there. When we pack up I'll start driving and just keep on driving. Past that house and all the way to Alaska. That's my current plan. But don't mention it to anyone.

5:33 PM

Wow! Check out the view of Mount McKinley/Denali from the deck of bubbs's new house. How could Mrs. bubbs not fall in love with that?! Within months she'll be out trapping and fishing and just having a grand ol' time.

Don't worry, bubbs. Your secret is safe with me.

5:56 PM
Blogger michael said...

Denali doesn't look all that cool. It's no Monte Sano, that's for sure.

6:28 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

are there moose at Monte Sano? How can you say it's better than Denali if there are no moose?

I dare not take that bet, not even for a nickel. But I'd bet he's seen it.

Trump: "No politician in history has been treated as harshly or unfairly than me."

The Dutch once lynched and then partially ate their Prime Minister, so Trump should count his blessings for now and hope the wacko liberals don't do the same.

11:49 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

When everything you say gets spoken in hyperbole it gets difficult to listen to you. Or at least I have a hard time listening to you.

"No politician in history ..." - Just stop right there. Whatever you follow that with is almost assured to be factually incorrect.
