Where we are

Here's my opinion on this. I'm just free associating based on what I know and what I've seen.

Is this bad? Absolutely. This makes Tommy Tuberville seem out of touch with his own program, which is a critical violation in a lot of eyes. This kind of stuff just doesn't happen.

Here's the thing: This makes sense from a win-football-games perspective. Franklin's systems weren't working. Period. They just weren't. So the thinking inside the walls here is ... Auburn won't regress by reverting to power football again. It can't be less successful. A move like this could prompt a change in attitude that yields big returns. Could. If the "new" offense makes sense and the players can execute it.

ALSO OF NOTE: Going down a man on the staff means Tuberville can hire a consultant and let that person actually coach. Good thing? Bad thing? Who knows. I'm just saying that avenue exists.

He can fill the position with someone substantive. That's what I meant.

I just don't understand how that changes anything? Seriously. We've already been there, done that. Tubs screwed it up.

Ha! Changes? Dream on.

From a paragraph of a letter I've started drafting to Jay Jacobs.

"Some may call me a conspiracy theorist, but I see a pattern emerging here. Auburn gets new defensive and offensive coordinators quite often. However, with the exception of the tight ends and linebacker coached, the supporting cast remains the same. It seems to me that crew that came with Coach Tuberville from Ole Miss wants to do things the way they have always done them and are unwilling or unable to learn new things."

I go on and am quite cold.

Good for you, Tad. More people should do this. Perception or reality, Auburn will be smeared once again nationally. Tony writes a book. The man NEVER got a chance to do what he does. Nobody, I mean nobodyn has ever said Tony Franklin's system does not work.

Tad,
You may want to change the linebacker coach to o line coach and wr coach since James Willis has only been here a few years. I get your point though and think its a good idea.

There has to be more to the story than we know. This makes no sense at all. It will be tough to find another competent OC when you gave your last one 7 games to prove himself and he went 5-2, not saying it was pretty on the field, but also saying he probably didn't have the free reign he was expecting/promised. You could do some what if's and say what if we kicked a field goal on the first drive of the Vandy game and had a punter worth a flip in the LSU game. Again, not saying it was pretty, you could torture some muslim prisoners by forcing them to watch the second half of the Vandy game.

Tad, Crud you guys are money. I'm pretty sure we all started blaming Franklin but then decided to dig a little deeper. After 10 years, 2 trips to ATL one trip to the BCS all teams having a good defense the common denominator ain't Tony Franklin. Tubs is there, but doesn't have much to do with the offense. That leaves the four stooges serving as position coaches. They undermined CTF from the get-go because his offense renders them less relevant (with the exception of Knox who can't spell relevant). Gran's a good running backs coach but our special teams have always been a drag. I don't care who they bring in for OC (if anyone is dumb enough to come), if some are all of these position coaches aren't shown the door we're in big trouble. CTF got railroaded, plain and simple.

crudup,

Actually, Auburn's not the first to not have success. Spence McCracken tried it and ditched it:

Yet it states very clearly that if you don't have a QB who can run it won't work.
