A-Day Basics

Hey everyone. Here are some numbers from A-Day, which you may or may not find significant.

PASSING
N. Caudle was 11-of-16 for 161 yards and 2 TDs.
K. Burns was 3-of-8 for 48 yards.

RUSHING
O. McCalebb had 2 carries for 75 yards, 1 TD
B. Tate had 4 carries for 72 yards

RECEIVING
D. Adams caught four balls for 103 yards, 1 TD
M. Fannin caught four balls for 71 yards

MVPs
Wes Byrum (special teams) ... hit a 46-yard FG
Michael Goggans (defense) ... two tackles, one sack
Ben Tate (offense) ... see above

RECRUITING FALLOUT
Our friends at AuburnSports.com and AuburnUndercover.com are reporting that Mississippi OL Shon Coleman has committed to the Tigers. He is the fourth player to make that leap. Coleman is 6-foot-7 and weighs 275 pounds. Players in the 2010 class aren't yet rated by the recruiting services, but I expect him to emerge as a three-star guy.

So sorry y'all all had to work this weekend. We had an awesome weekend. Got to Auburn Friday night where our college son grilled dinner for us (and 22 others!) We had 25 spilling in and out of his condo. Makes you feel young to be around that many 19-22 year olds! Then we went to Auburn Christian Fellowship for open mic Friday. Our son and various band members did us proud with an AC/DC rendition of Back in Black. Long on entertainment, short on singing :) Saturday we went to the game, had 15 for a beautiful tailgate then went to son's soccer game which he won 5-0. Visited with husband's parents and our daughter and son-in-law (and my two grand-dogs) Saturday night, and then Sunday went to church with everyone, to Panera for breakfast, and home to Birmingham in time for our Sunday afternoon nap on the couch watching the Braves win. It was a heavenly weekend!

8:15 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Scottie,

I had no idea how big my back yard is until I thought I was about half way down one side and looked up and realized I was about 1/4 of the way down one side.

Speaking of the Allman Brothers, I see they are going to be at World's Fair Park.

My favorite Allman Brothers Band song is Whipping Post, the live version from At Filmore East.

8:37 AM

and who doesn't like "Ramblin' Man"?

8:37 AM
Blogger ehyou said...

Whipping Post took up the entire second side of the second album. A classic AB jam.

8:41 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I'm not a big fan of "Ramblin' Man". Most people who are hardcore ABB fans were really burned out on that song since it's the one song everyone seems to know.

8:41 AM
Blogger ehyou said...

It is a shame when the classic rock stations sink their teeth into a good song. They will overplay something until it is dead.

Obviously, I'm not hardcore.

An apropos anecdote on 4/20 from Skydog: The Duane Allman Store by Randy Poe:

Normally the band hated being photographed; the cover of The Fillmore Concerts shows them displaying terminal boredom. However, during the session, Duane spotted a dealer friend, raced over and grabbed a bag of contraband, then returned to his seat, discreetly clutching the stash in his lap. This cracked up all the members, resulting in a memorable image.

Once you know the story, when you look at the cover of Filmore East, you truly understand why they are all cracking up in the picture.

NASCAR can be fun but I hate the huge crowds. I have seen 2 Talledega races and one in Atlanta but it has been about 9 years ago. I don't live far fro the Talladega track but would't fight those crowds any more.

the only time i can deal with crowds is at JHS. the rest of the time it irks me.

speaking of crowds, i'll be headed down to the ATL for the Braves-Cardinals game next monday. anyone else going to be there?

10:07 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

As I get older, the more I don't like crowds.

That's the thing about going to a DMB show, I like Dave Matthews' music, but a lot of his fan base irritate me.

In fact, since I don't smoke anything, some concerts I go to I really don't fit in at all with the crowd.

Speaking of crowds, I'm going to see U2 at the Georgia Dome in October, that should be a slightly large crowd.

10:09 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I choose home between both DMB or NASCAR.

I went to the Atlanta Race since someone else bought the tickets and it took 2 hours to go 2 miles. Never Again.

10:21 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Ok enough about DMB and NASCAR, let's talk about football. Why isn't Neil the starter?

10:22 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Because Kodi has the tools. He just hasn't employed them all at the same time.

That's what I always hear when I ask why Kodi Burns is still in the mix.

And, that's not incorrect. I just wonder if those tools will ever all surface at once.

10:25 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Truth is, it'll take the fall practices and probably a game or two to make a choice.

As I posted before, I think it is dangerous to roll into the season with a QB battle still raging, but that may be what faces Auburn.

10:27 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I'm still curious if Kodi has all the tools.

10:29 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

He's figured out scramble, pass in the dirt*, and overthrow.

Just needs to work on reads, fitting one in the window, and hitting folks on the run.

*in the dirt - Seriously, some of his passes have more drop than a Doug Drabek curve.

10:34 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I would argue that he hasn't figured out the scramble, because he runs so off balance that he falls over at any contact.

10:36 AM
Blogger digger4au said...

I had hoped that Kodi just needed coaching and would get that this year. I am now beginning to believe it is deeper than that and he should be used in certain situations and not the starter. Neil still throws the ball up for grabs too many times. A good defense would have intercepted at least 2 Sat. Given time he may come around.

Sensi,

It's been painful watching Kodi back there. Part of it was last years offense, part of it has been it just seems he has a complete lack of confidence out there.

Everyone talked when he came in what a great runner he would be, but he hasn't done much with his legs that is overly impressive.

10:54 AM
Blogger wartiger said...

I still wanting Kodi as the stater...plp that know more about football than me disagree saying the very things that ya'll are saying now regarding his talent and his actual skills..I know it this isn't much of a reason but I just got a feeling about Kodi..I really belive we will be singing his praises by November and wondering why we were ever questioning him..I hope anyway..I like Caudle and am glad he is getting a chance..is he a Senior or Jr?

10:58 AM
Blogger wartiger said...

i think we need the ability to scramble and while Kodi does run odd at least he can run..

11:02 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Could it be that the Auburn Coaches are leaving the door wide open for a True Freshman to take the rings this season at the QB position? That is a scary thought, but with the best case scenerio of sucess this year, it might make sense.
