A-Day Basics
Hey everyone. Here are some numbers from A-Day, which you may or may not find significant.
PASSING
N. Caudle was 11-of-16 for 161 yards and 2 TDs.
K. Burns was 3-of-8 for 48 yards.
RUSHING
O. McCalebb had 2 carries for 75 yards, 1 TD
B. Tate had 4 carries for 72 yards
RECEIVING
D. Adams caught four balls for 103 yards, 1 TD
M. Fannin caught four balls for 71 yards
MVPs
Wes Byrum (special teams) ... hit a 46-yard FG
Michael Goggans (defense) ... two tackles, one sack
Ben Tate (offense) ... see above
RECRUITING FALLOUT
Our friends at AuburnSports.com and AuburnUndercover.com are reporting that Mississippi OL Shon Coleman has committed to the Tigers. He is the fourth player to make that leap. Coleman is 6-foot-7 and weighs 275 pounds. Players in the 2010 class aren't yet rated by the recruiting services, but I expect him to emerge as a three-star guy.

mon-you got jokes...
smooch Wartiger
can't do nuttin but smile at that...
Ole Miss will likely win the west, although LSU may have something to say about that.
really never thought I'd be saying Ole miss to win the west..but with the only proven QB..tough to argue..still..cough cough...
LSU may have a shot if that new QB continues to look good, but Nutt has put together a very good team. He did part of it with players he took from us.
you know what tho...everybody had us to win the west last year..bottom line is you just never know and all that JAZZ!!
I'm back... It's been a difficult weekend. My girlfriend and I are on the rocks and my wife is not too happy with her either.
What'd I miss this weekend? Anything good?
By the way, the girlfriend is Lowe's... we've been seeing way too much of each other lately!
Lowe's is feminine?? I always did think Home Depot was a little more rough around the edges.
its time to break out the football bats and $3 bills when OM is going to be the west fav without eli coming back for a sixth year. yeesh. how much crazier are things going to get? i don't think there is a tougher division in any conference anywhere.
I'm out hotties..to those still gainfully employed have a good day to those not..keep chillin...:)..night
As much money as Lowe's has taken from me lately... it has to be feminine... right?
Ole Miss is still Ole Miss.
They will finish no better than third in the West this year.
Atlanta, is bout to get rocked, like a hurricane. Sirens already have gone off once, it's going to be a long night.
FSJ that makes no sense..sorry but Ole Miss is GOOOOOOD no matter what way you look at it.
Jhag, FSJ is right. Until they prove otherwise, they're an SEC West Also-Ran.
Im about to start off April 20th the right way!
This comment has been removed by the author.
watcha gonna do jhag? castrate an elephant to celebrate hitler's birthday? isn't that what most folks do on 4/20?
lol sarcasm?
Good morning, Hotties! I have short week! Leaving for the beach Wed. evening! YAY!!!!
morning...which beach Luv? I just got back from Jacksonville beach...Water was still cold but weather was beautiful..
Please have a good day, as I will be away most of the day participating in an important 18-part environmental study.
We tee off ... I mean, we start our study at 9:10. Have a good day.
wartiger, Destin. I've never been there. Since moving to AL, I've only been to Gulf Shores. I hear Destin is very nice.
I'm jealous, Jet. We ended up not playing on Sat. because we thought it was going to rain.
Good Morning!!
I'm jealous of everyone. The beach, golf outings. My life sux in comparison.
ehyou, it's been two years since I've been to the beach and I haven't played golf in two weeks. So, you're life doesn't suck that bad. You woke up this morning, right?
Luv...lot's of golf in Destin and the water is normally clearer than Gulf Shores. You should have good weather....enjoy.
Luv..
Thanks for the encouragement. I guess it ain't that bad. When July 25th rolls around I'll be the envy of everyone as I'm heading out for seven days in PC. Woohoo!!
Thanks, Hoopie! We have an 8:00 a.m. tee time on Thursday, but I have no idea where.
ehyou, see? I'm only going for 3 full days (we won't be getting there until late Wed. night and we'll be leaving Sun. morning).
Luv,
The beach sounds so wonderful. On Wednesday I get to go to Scottsboro to help my sister pack to move.
cincy, now that sounds like fun...actually, it doesn't. I hate to pack and move.
It might be kind of fun - she needs someone who isn't emotionally attached to her stuff to come throw away and organize. And I do love to organize! I'm talking myself into it being fun. I'd rather go to the beach!
Well sadly after this weekend we now have to wait 3 1/2 months before fall football practice starts in August.
WE,
I hate this conflicting time of the year. I want AU football to hurry and get here, but when it arrives it means summer is over, and I hate that.
morning peeps. out of pocket this weekend. A-Day was surrounded by building a fence in my back yard. glad to be back at work so i can relax.
scottie, you wanna come do some repairs on our fence? ;-)
Scottie,
I spent my afternoon on friday staining my fence only to get frustrated and realize that this is a multiple day project and I have to schedule it around our frequent rain days.
Fences and yardwork make me really glad I live in a condo. All of that stuff just stays pretty on it's own.
Luv, i didn't do too bad considering i was a fence building virgin. if i'm ever down your way i'll be happy to help. :)
RK, that sucks. i was in the rain till 10pm last nite putting up 2x4's. good times. ha. staining will be a couple weeks away. i need a break.
i don't mind the work. oddly, i find it relaxing. it was just me, the rain, and the Allman Brothers.
So sorry y'all all had to work this weekend. We had an awesome weekend. Got to Auburn Friday night where our college son grilled dinner for us (and 22 others!) We had 25 spilling in and out of his condo. Makes you feel young to be around that many 19-22 year olds! Then we went to Auburn Christian Fellowship for open mic Friday. Our son and various band members did us proud with an AC/DC rendition of Back in Black. Long on entertainment, short on singing :) Saturday we went to the game, had 15 for a beautiful tailgate then went to son's soccer game which he won 5-0. Visited with husband's parents and our daughter and son-in-law (and my two grand-dogs) Saturday night, and then Sunday went to church with everyone, to Panera for breakfast, and home to Birmingham in time for our Sunday afternoon nap on the couch watching the Braves win. It was a heavenly weekend!
Scottie,
I had no idea how big my back yard is until I thought I was about half way down one side and looked up and realized I was about 1/4 of the way down one side.
Speaking of the Allman Brothers, I see they are going to be at World's Fair Park.
cincy, I'm glad the Braves didn't let you down, that was a nasty skid they were on.
cincy, sounds like you had a fun-filled weekend. I'm sure you were ready for that Sunday afternoon nap!!
sounds fun Cincy.
RK, i had forgotten about that concert. i'll have to hook that up.
i was listening to 'Live at Fillmore East' over & over.
That giant sphere at World's Fair Park is full of wigs, right?
Scottie..
Stormy Monday on that album is one of the finest songs in existence.
I'm sure I've heard that song, but I can't remember. I looked up the lyrics...not a very happy song.
One of my favorites is "Jessica."
Scottie,
Do you have the Deluxe 2 CD edition of Filmore East? If not, you need to pick it up. It has the whole show, plus some extras.
My favorite Allman Brothers Band song is Whipping Post, the live version from At Filmore East.
and who doesn't like "Ramblin' Man"?
Whipping Post took up the entire second side of the second album. A classic AB jam.
I'm not a big fan of "Ramblin' Man". Most people who are hardcore ABB fans were really burned out on that song since it's the one song everyone seems to know.
It is a shame when the classic rock stations sink their teeth into a good song. They will overplay something until it is dead.
Obviously, I'm not hardcore.
An apropos anecdote on 4/20 from Skydog: The Duane Allman Store by Randy Poe:
Normally the band hated being photographed; the cover of The Fillmore Concerts shows them displaying terminal boredom. However, during the session, Duane spotted a dealer friend, raced over and grabbed a bag of contraband, then returned to his seat, discreetly clutching the stash in his lap. This cracked up all the members, resulting in a memorable image.
Album Cover
Luv..
If you like the song, then rock on.
ehyou, I've read that book as well.
Once you know the story, when you look at the cover of Filmore East, you truly understand why they are all cracking up in the picture.
Even Jaimoe is smiling, and he never smiles.
Don't get me wrong "Ramblin Man" is a good song, but just one that has been played to death over the years.
Speaking of Jam bands, has anyone been to a Dave concert this year?
He's playing at Vanderbilt Stadium this weekend, but ticket prices were a bit more than I wanted to pay.
I think his tour just started. I do like what I've heard from the new album coming out in June from the DMB.
I've tickets for the show next Wednesday, I can't wait. It's been about 3 years since I last saw them.
RK, i DO have the 2 CD set.....AND Whipping Post is my fav Allman Bros. song. :)
i didn't realize that about the album cover. ausome.
I had a choice between Dave Matthews tickets or Talladega...great seats too..I chose dega..
NASCAR! I've only been to one race, the Brickyard in 2006, but that was a great time. Tix were a bit pricey but it was worth it.
wartiger..
You chose wisely.
it'll be my last hoo rah here in alabama for a while so I figured I could do it right at the race...plus it's better seats than I have ever sat in..
anybody else gonna be at the race?
I just can't get into Nascar anymore.
I have never liked NASCAR.
i can't believe you turned down DMB tickets for NASCAR.
but i'd rather go see AU play the Citadel than go to a World Series game. so it is....
I love NASCAR. It's just too easy to watch from my couch to fight the masses.
NASCAR is fun in person. It's a yawn on T.V. I'd take the Dave tickets myself.
ummm, I know I'm showing my age, but I'd rather play golf than do either of those things.
Different strokes for different folks, Luv.
agreed Luv. i would much rather play golf than either of those and i am the target demographic for both of those other things
If I had to choose between NASCAR and Dave Matthews, I would pick staying home.
I don't play golf and only got into Nascar by betting a dollar on Kyle Bush last year..I only live 20 min from the track and have only been to 2 race and that's when I was in boy scouts..over 15 years ago..
Dave Matthews Band dumps poop on people.
it'll be a blast..I have noticed that most AU fans don't like nascar..wonder why that is..or maybe it's just the Hotties...
Does anyone know where I can find a list/roster of scholarship players?
How can we be thin at so many spots?
they sure do, Will. Literally and figuratively.
Had to leave abruptly last night Tornados all around but we did not see any real bad wind. Rained hard, no hail.
NASCAR can be fun but I hate the huge crowds. I have seen 2 Talledega races and one in Atlanta but it has been about 9 years ago. I don't live far fro the Talladega track but would't fight those crowds any more.
ABB...favs 1. One way Out. 2. You don't love me no more.
I agree with the crowds part if I have to do the fighting..I am the guest in this case so all I gotta do is tag along...
the only time i can deal with crowds is at JHS. the rest of the time it irks me.
speaking of crowds, i'll be headed down to the ATL for the Braves-Cardinals game next monday. anyone else going to be there?
As I get older, the more I don't like crowds.
That's the thing about going to a DMB show, I like Dave Matthews' music, but a lot of his fan base irritate me.
In fact, since I don't smoke anything, some concerts I go to I really don't fit in at all with the crowd.
Speaking of crowds, I'm going to see U2 at the Georgia Dome in October, that should be a slightly large crowd.
I choose home between both DMB or NASCAR.
I went to the Atlanta Race since someone else bought the tickets and it took 2 hours to go 2 miles. Never Again.
Ok enough about DMB and NASCAR, let's talk about football. Why isn't Neil the starter?
Because Kodi has the tools. He just hasn't employed them all at the same time.
That's what I always hear when I ask why Kodi Burns is still in the mix.
And, that's not incorrect. I just wonder if those tools will ever all surface at once.
Truth is, it'll take the fall practices and probably a game or two to make a choice.
As I posted before, I think it is dangerous to roll into the season with a QB battle still raging, but that may be what faces Auburn.
I'm still curious if Kodi has all the tools.
He's figured out scramble, pass in the dirt*, and overthrow.
Just needs to work on reads, fitting one in the window, and hitting folks on the run.
*in the dirt - Seriously, some of his passes have more drop than a Doug Drabek curve.
I would argue that he hasn't figured out the scramble, because he runs so off balance that he falls over at any contact.
I had hoped that Kodi just needed coaching and would get that this year. I am now beginning to believe it is deeper than that and he should be used in certain situations and not the starter. Neil still throws the ball up for grabs too many times. A good defense would have intercepted at least 2 Sat. Given time he may come around.
Thank you, RK.
Another person that notices that.
Strong winds blow him off course like a ship piloted by Gilligan.
It's April 20th
Sensi,
It's been painful watching Kodi back there. Part of it was last years offense, part of it has been it just seems he has a complete lack of confidence out there.
Everyone talked when he came in what a great runner he would be, but he hasn't done much with his legs that is overly impressive.
I still wanting Kodi as the stater...plp that know more about football than me disagree saying the very things that ya'll are saying now regarding his talent and his actual skills..I know it this isn't much of a reason but I just got a feeling about Kodi..I really belive we will be singing his praises by November and wondering why we were ever questioning him..I hope anyway..I like Caudle and am glad he is getting a chance..is he a Senior or Jr?
i think we need the ability to scramble and while Kodi does run odd at least he can run..
Could it be that the Auburn Coaches are leaving the door wide open for a True Freshman to take the rings this season at the QB position? That is a scary thought, but with the best case scenerio of sucess this year, it might make sense.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Reigns instead of Rings.
I thought about posting a Rollison question but the thought of having to start a true freshmen..ohhh..shiver..tho on his facebook he belives he will play this fall..I like his ambition...
I wouldn't care if a true freshmen played
When was the last time a true Freshman came in and started the season at Auburn? Ever?
Kodi got a start as a true freshman. Didn't fair so well.
As far as a full season starter as a true freshman... you got me.
Burns started one game as a true freshman vs New Mexico State.
Gabe Gross started several games as true freshman in 98.
I can't see either of the true freshmen coming in and making a splash. It seems clear that Kodi and Caudle will be the two guys and I think at this point Caudle seems like the best option.
Was Stan White a true freshman when he started?
I was actually wondering if there had been a true freshmen to start the first game of the season. Several freshmen qb's have started but I'm not sure there has ever been one to come in and dominate to get the starters job. Just thinkin'
New thread up.
Old thread down.
