Everybody's heard that the Bird is the Word.
AWK, I assed you a question in the previous thread ...
The Samoli pirates have attacked another US ship...messed up
The pirates are about to be eradicated. The Navy has been waiting, what, 60 years to accomplish something major on the water?
I sent you an invite then had to bail for Trial observations. Boo real life.
Ah. Word. OK.
Daddy was raking with his silenced STG-44.
I don't know why, but I have recently become a fan of the BAR... and the always trusty MP40. God Bless America.
Yeah the Navy needs to get to work
I loathe the MP40. Sounds like it's firing Tic Tacs.
I must say: I experience some cognitive dissonance when using simulated Nazi guns. It's not healthy.
Jay are you suggesting your a pirate?
All aboard the Jolly Roger! Ahoy!
I'll join I'm on board we can do big things!
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I like the Gewehr as well, with the attached noob tube. Makes the initial 10 seconds of a search and destroy match very humorous.
Why didn't the pirates enjoy the movie Deep Blue Sea?
I'm wrappin' this one up, fellas. Piece to j00.
jgt, i listened to MC&IS for first time in years on the way back from montgomery today. weird you would put that song in the vid.
Night, I'm worried about having a nightmare of losing to Ball State... That's why I'm still up
The offensive line depth and injuries will likely be the deciding factor with this team. It won't take many injuries before they we have to move defensive linemen over.
the coalition navies should search every ship they can find that even looks like it may be a pirate ship. if contraband is found on board, make 'em walk the plank. if they don't get the message after that, let it be known you will blow them out of the water on sight, no questions asked until this crap stops. eventually the insurance rates on ship traveling the area will be so astronomical, the shipping companies will simply go around tanzania and avoid those waters altogether.
if only AU qbs were half as accurate as Navy SEAL snipers...
Navy cant run after hundreds of little boats all over the ocean.
I don't think I want to provide protection to commercial ships on my tab. Tell them to carry ammo and blow up any little boat that gets too close.
A Good Morning to all!!
'Preciate the late work last night JGT.
time to pay the taxes.
Good morning and Happy Hump Day, Hotties! I gave myself a mid-week treat and took the day off. It was so nice rolling out of bed at 7:00 instead of trying to peel myself out at 3:30.
For those who missed it, you can download The Gridiron Breakdown from last night where Jay G. Tate was on in the first segment. The entire show was dedicated to the discussion of Auburn football.
Enjoy!
It is the featured episode from 4/14/09, by the way.
I don't know nearly as much about football as the rest of you Hotties, but the lack of depth at OL is very worrisome.
Me neither, Luv, but I agree with you completely...scary
Scary Stuff
Did they not have time to go after those types of players or could they just not get them?
Luv, I think it was a mixture of both. Regardless, it was a recruiting foul-up of massive proportions. It'll take this staff 2-3 years to recover there.
They really needed Jermaine Johnson. He made a surprisingly abrupt change in affiliation once Tuberville et. al were fired/resigned.
my favorite Pumpkins' song. nice work.
i love having 7 offensive linemen. ausome. :(
Well, hopefully, the next 2-3 years won't be as woefully miserable (and almost painful at times!) as last season.
Mike Slade looks like he's really put on some weight. It was much needed though!
Great song Jay G!
Luv..as you say, you may not know much about football, but you do seem to have good reading comprehension skills, because you have grasped the biggest weakness/potential disaster with the AU team.
Right after NSD, Ron Mexico was lamenting our OL woes and I differed with him that we still could be OK if several of the backups stepped up. This assumed we could have a good 2 deep(not enough players for anything more). Well.. we've had more OL attrition and I haven't heard much about others steppping in to challenge. The way this bad run of luck keeps going, we'll be lucky to have 2 deep OL to suit up next season.
The scout free site indicates that we are on the interested list for about 2 of the top 30 OL in the nation. It's still early in the recruiting wars, but IMO, the fans should be following OL recruiting instead of swooning over 5* RBs. so much.
Folks say we haven't recruited talent the past few years. I think the problem is that there has been an a tremendous amount of player attrition. That statement takes a lot of tedious research to back up and I don't have the time right now..any volunteers?
Thanks for the footage Mr Jay G Tate!
Thanks for the link Sensi!
Not sure if this is a concern or not, but there seems to be a lot of facial hair and gaps in front teeth this year. Hopefully that will make up for our depth on the Offensive line, and DB inexperience
mytommyd...Maybe the coaches saw the OL difficulties approaching and ordered some cosmetic mods to hid the lack of depth and intimidate the opposing DL.
Well Hoopie, I'll just have to hope that idea works as good as the "reach and get it" drill
the baseball AU Tigers lost to S.Alabama last nite 5-2. bummer.
TarHeel, thanks for the video highlight! What a run! I love watching Auburn video highlights! They make me all vaklempt 'cause I LOVE Auburn football!!
JGT,
Thanks for the footage and for working late into the night to get that up.
What game are we playing these days?
This guy is a real piece of work
YoungPJ: Same ol' (Call of Duty and Rock Band 2)
Auburn is the place blue chip receivers go to die. So very true. Thanks for the gridiron breakdown. This is great.
Here's what Pawlowski had to say after Auburn's loss at South Alabama on Tuesday:
“We didn’t compete. You don’t have to have base hits, but fighting off pitches and giving us quality at bats and we just didn’t have many of those today. We weren’t able to build any innings, we weren’t able to get leadoff guys on and we hit a lot of fly balls. The offense has to be creative and if we don’t hit the home runs it makes it very difficult.”
Luv, here's more info on Connie Frederick:
FREDERICK
Call of Duty on the 360 right?
Hmm, so Pawlowski is building a team around hitting home runs.
That doesn't seem like the best strategy to me.
This comment has been removed by the author.
I've said it before, but staying healthy in the OL and secondary will be the key to our season.
I hate recruiting, but apparently not as much as our previous staff. (It's a joke SteveFC, don't worry.)
I think you misunderestimated Pawloski's assessment - seems to me he says that our offense needs to get away from relying on the long ball, hence the 'needs to be creative' comment.
BTW, losing Jermaine Johnson's services on the OL in the transition will hopefully be mitigated by a major improvement in offensive coaching. We supposedly had superior depth on the OL last year, what good did it do us?
I didn't read that as we have to hit home runs, I read it as working the pitcher deep in the count and fouling off stuff until you find your pitch to hit.
PJ - It sounds more of he is interested in getting people on base for small ball. If you don't have people on base, or don't hit HR's nothing is going to happen.
I don't think he is going for the Earl Weaver get a 3 run HR every inning.
Also known as..what everyone else has said before my post.
It's not often you hear a coach say his team didn't compete.
JGT - Do you think it is good calling them out?
Interesting. I read it different then ya'll. But I can see it that way too.
To-may-to, to-mah-to?
I don't think depth in the secondary will be the issue. It will offensive line, then linebacker, then defensive line.
Ma--Mario needs to trim up that head. I say give everyone aboard those ships all of the confiscated weapons from the White Hall Casino-That'll take care of the problem.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Josh, you say you can't see where this team will be better than last season. I think it is pretty obvious the offense will be improved.
I hope this offense will be improved. Unfortunately, it needs to be vastly improved to be competitive.
HTML attempt#2
Tried to find Jay's show on the net without getting firewalled and it didn't work, but I did happen across this other interwebs radio thingy. Not sure if it's common knowledge, but it's got a lot of variety and I thought I'd share ... again .... hopefully.
LAUNCHcast
I agree with Steve. The fact that the entire coaching staff is pulling in the same direction has got to make a positive difference.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ehyou and Steve, I agree. As long as they are all on the same page, the only way they can go is up!
I'm going to equate our coaching staff with what happened with the Falcons last year. Although they didn't say the same thing they were all looking for the same result and had a common purpose for getting the results they were looking for. Listening to what our coaches have said, it seems like the same thing: they are ALL on the same page.I only hope that our players can pick up as quickly as the pros did.
Quality depth in the secondary will be an issue, also not to be ugly, but the injury to Mike McNeil might be a good thing so that Slade can get more reps.
This will be more of an issue than at LB.
The way I see it, if we win 6, Chizik gets a pass. I see seven wins as likely. The best I can see is 9 wins, but it will take a lot of luck with regard to injuries.
Steve I think Coach Chiz gets a pass this year, his telling year will be 2010. Truthfully he should be given more time than that, but that may be just me.
How many teams in Div 1A didn't have any injuries at OL last year?
I don't see 9 wins, but I definitely see more than 4.
I am wondering why we didn't bring in some Juco linemen. It would seem to be an obvious choice.
mrtommyd, I agree. In order to build the quality team for which Chizik is striving, it will take at least 2 years.
The QB situation has me very concerned. I don't think Malzahn has been able to find a QB he feels can do the job.
Josh Moon is a clown! That is all.
The QB situation doesn't have me nearly as concerned as the OL situation. If an average QB has an OL that can block and give him time, he can make some plays.
If my assumption at QB is correct, I wouldn't be surprised for Kodi to be the starter with Fannin as the #2 QB. Needless to say, we wouldn't be passing the ball much.
The problem with that is that if we go smash mouth, as the coaches have said, how does having very little depth on the offensive line fit with smash mouth football. It is scary.
Josh is alright. He is on here occasionally. I just disagree with him.
SteveFC's QB Prediction Carousel amuses me.
I'm waiting for Steve to say that Lee Ziemba will be the #2 QB.
Is Todd learning the offense? Will he join the fray this fall? Has his arm fell off yet?
Chris Todd is going to join that awful band The Fray?
He's over his head like a cable car?
Does he know how to save a life... let alone a team?
Caught a bit of Fineboob yesterday-they had the guy that wrote "The Last Coach" about Bear Bryant on. They were saying there is no way Chizik can be successful because he has taken over a sinking program. How many coaches programs get a new coach when they are on top? Man, I don't know why I tune to 740 ever! Freakin Bammer in the morning, Bammer in the evening, Bammer at suppertime.
Steve-Josh would argue with a rock. Plus he sounds like Peter Brady in the "Time to Change" song.
I keep hearing this stuff about Auburn being a "sinking program" and it doesn't make sense.
It's been a very good program for a long, long time now.
One coaching implosion doesn't make Auburn irrelevant. That happens everywhere.
Yes ... even at Alabama ... thrice this decade.
Jay,
You know anything about this attempt to match up Auburn and UCLA at the Georgia Dome next year?
AU/UCLADoesn't look like it's gonna happen but would be a great idea, IMO.
Jay G.
That's what gets my blood up so much. The radio and newspaper media wait til we have one crappy year and then jump all over it like we are on the same level as Vandy or Kentucky. They act like we are only a good team once every decade or so. I just don't get it. Never seen anything more arrogant than the bammers.
Just like Tenn/UCLA was a great idea last year. Wait...
good find FSJ. i hadn't heard that.
very odd, though. why would we/AU not want that game? it's not like we'd have to fly to LA for it.
Reasons AU might not want the game:
USC
Ga Tech
K State
S Florida
W Va
Might be getting a little gun-shy right about now
BUT WE BEAT K-STATE!!!!!!!!
i know, i know. suck.
Auburn is a tough coaching gig because of competition for Bama, UT, UF, and UGA. Fortunately we have had some very good luck with coaches like Shug, Dye, and Tuberville. Even Bowden and Barfield weren't disasters, although Bowden left the program in the worst state I have seen it in my lifetime.
My QB carousel will continue. It could very well end up life last season, and I think this is what confuses people. If Kodi ends up being the starter, it is very possible that our offense more resembles what we had the second half of last season. In that case, Fannin might actually be a good backup.
I am a little surprised at the tone I have heard from Jay. The other day he said Todd, we hardly knew you, but he also mentioned that Todd might get in the mix. I think Todd is by far the closest thing we have to a true QB, excluding the two incoming freshman. Caudle would be second.
I would not call it likely that Todd will be able to compete for the job. I like his decision making ability, but I doubt his arm will last. If his arm is healthy, Todd will likely be your starter. I just have a lot of doubt he will be healthy.
Why I have these opinions is based upon what I have gleamed from the last 3 OCs. I think Borges and Franklin recognized the problems with Kodi and with Caudle. I think Tuberville wanted Kodi because he loved the way he can scramble, but Tuberville didn't recognize the poor decision making.
What may end up being the decider is what offense Malzahn decides to install. It really isn't a different offense, but rather the portion of his playbook he decides to install.
What is the scariest thing you can hear from an Auburn OC? We need to simplify the offense.
Sorry for blogging your blog, Jay. That turned out to be a bit longer than I anticipated.
Blog you!
Jay again thanks, I really enjoy seeing the players up close and talking about different subjects.
We sure have some night owls on here, I leaves early at night and make up for by being late in the mornings.
Pirates should be an easy fix. Every ship will have a bull horn and annouce that a boat coming close to them will be blown out of the water unless they turn away. A small cannon to do just that and the will to pull the trigger.
One aspect of the offense that bothers me is the hurry up gotta get 90 plays in with the lack of offensive lineman is wrong. Self distruction made easy will be the end results.
Wait until you have a full deck before dealing this hand,
Scottie, don't forget we beat W. State as well. We just need to play OOC teams that end in State. We do pretty well w/ them.
BEAT STATE!
digger brings up a good point with the hurry up offense and few linemen.
Man U will get a dose of Portuguese today and be sent packing from the CHAMPION'S LEAGUE.
That is all.
Has anyone seen where former Duke PG Greg Paulus is talking to Michigan HC Rich Rodriguez about playing for the Wolverines? The article on Foxsports.com states that he has one year of football eligibility left after playing 4 years of basketball.
Depressed, I saw that on ESPN. Would he still have to sit out a year, or since he didn't play football at Duke, would he be eligible right away?
RK, I am not sure on the rule in this situation, but the article stated he was interested in playing THIS season for Michigan, so I assumed he would not have to sit out a year.
Funny take on Paulus playing football:
http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/the_sporting_blog/entry/view/23067/paulus_works_out_for_packers,_gets_dunked_on
The gov't is considering reviving the use of "letters of marque" (aka privateers) in piratical warfare. This practice was common during the Napoleonic Wars and American Revolution. The privately owned vessels would receive a bounty for every pirate deterred.
ehyou, that sounds great. Michael, are you willing to play pirate and let me deter you?
Michigan is one of the teams I am interested in following this coming season. If they suck butt again this season, could Rich Rod become Unemployed Rod?
Notre Dame will be another interesting one to watch. I used to hate them when they were good. It's hard to hate someone that's pathetic.
If Michigan sucks along this year
Rich Rod will be history
He is not that well liked to begin with by some of the power brokers of the Big Blue.
Maybe WVU will take him back.
Everybody's all upset about the OL ... why?
Man, we got Jermaine Johnson, Chaz Ramsey, Lee Tilley, Kyle Coulahan, and Leon Hart is still around, isn't he?
That's a bunch of guys who'll be playing on Sunday soon.
(at a bowling alley)
Jet, that's be funny if it wasn't sad.
That would be funny, oops, pulled a Bammer.
Embrace the challenge, Seanzie!
Hey guys, I heard something pretty cool today. Check this out...
Auburn freshman using the power of Facebook to recruit for the Tigers
By Ben Volin | Thursday, March 26, 2009, 02:28 PM
Auburn freshman quarterback Tyrik Rollison is making life a lot easier for new coach Gene Chizik on the recruiting front.
Rollison, a four-star quarterback prospect from Sulphur Springs, Texas who will join the Tigers this fall, utilized the far-reaching power of Facebook Wednesday to try to bring former Michigan receiver Toney Clemons to Auburn.
“”He is no longer with Michigan and is looking for a new place to ball,” Rollison wrote in a public note on Facebook. “We could use him at WR and I was asking for your help. Send him a message saying how much Auburn could use and how much you would like to see him on our squad. Anything from the heart will go a long way. Thanks for the help.”
Rollison also posted Clemons’ Facebook page, a photo and a video of Clemons’ high school highlights.
High school photo of Toney Clemons
Clemens, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound receiver from the Pittsburgh area, was the No. 10-ranked receiver prospect by Scout.com for the class of 2007 and is the cousin of former Michigan receiver and current Arizona Cardinal Steve Breaston
Clemens had 11 catches for 101 yards and zero touchdowns in 2008. He announced Tuesday he is leaving Ann Arbor with two years of eligibility remaining.
Rollison posted his note around 12:30 p.m. today, and within two hours had 20-plus Auburn fans on board.
“Attaboy Ty, recruit your heart out!” one fan wrote.
“Big Toney, we are ready for you big man. Come be a Tiger. The fans will show you much love,” another fan wrote.
Clemons received so much support he wrote a note to Rollison and War Eagle Nation that was half thank you letter, half plea to Chizik to bring him aboard.
“I want to thank you all for the support,” he wrote. “It means alot to me to know there are people that dont truly know me to have my back and welcome and wish me well. I am seriously looking into Auburn and I have plans of contacting the university to see what the interest level and situation would be for me there. I have no problem competing with the best talent daily to win and keep a job and I have no aspirations of going into a situation where things would be easy for me because competition within a program is what truly makes a player better and I know Auburn has that on both sides of the ball. I just want the opportunity to be able to showcase my skills in a manner that will benefit me and the program that I am involved with. Thanks again.”
Cool post AWK, Tyrik needs to make friends with some OL.
I'm out for the afternoon.
I'll catch up with you later today. Behave!
AWK - Where did you see that?
I am being have.
Just read the post earlier about AU turning down a GA dome trip to play UCLA. Why would we do that? That would be great national exposure and be a sweet out of conference game - win or loose. Unless there is some other hidden reason, I think it is a stupid move.
LT
Maybe Jacobs thought UCLA was the University of Central Lower Alabama and figured we already had one lower level school on our schedule.
Goldberg has a post up where Jacobs lays out his reasons. Basically, we already had 12 games, and we are already playing a big out of conference game against Clemson.
I understand where he is coming from, but that sure would be awesome to have another big time out of conference game.
Actually the reason is money. Jacobs didn't want to give up the extra home game for a neutral site game.
The sad thing is, the game was proposed for 2010 where we have 8 home games and 4 road games. I'm sure we could have cancelled the UTC Mocs off our schedule and made it work if we had really wanted to.
Jacobs is a tool.
The sooner Auburn sheds itself of this loser, the better.
It only makes us look bad when stories of us turning down top level games come out...especially when you look at our schedule and see the 1-AA school that we schedule every year.
Yeah, that whole "adding the 12th game will make schedules better" is so bogus. It's all about $$$ and schools whipping on some nobody while charging $65-$85 a pop.
At this point, part of me doesn't mind the 1-AA opponent over UCLA. Like I mentioned earlier, our recent history against BCS opponents sucks, and we'll need all the wins we can get the next couple of years.
On the other hand, nothing sucks more for fans than a game against a chump team.
Hey Monica,
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/palmbeach/ufblog/entries/2009/03/26/auburn_freshman_using_the_powe.html
I am getting the feeling that Auburn doesn't want to be a big boy.
Maybe I should go pull for Ole Miss.
I normally don't comment on Ad scheduling issues, but it is time for AU to step up and play more folks from other areas. Ya really want to help national recruiting?...play UCLA at the Dome.
Even if we lose the game..let's get in the arena anyway. Grow up JJ.
Well posted, Hoopie. Couldn't agree more.
Auburn has got to start acting like we belong with Alabama, Florida, UT and Georgia or we are just another middle of the road SEC program.
The willingness to embrace mediocrity for Auburn football is staggering.
I never said AU would win only four games next year or that the team wouldn't be improved. Don't know where that came from.
Hoopie ...
Generally, I agree. Specifically, not this time.
We already have Clemson on the schedule in 2010, plus the usual Murderer's Row. We would be surrendering a home game to play a game that won't get us as much attention as UAT-Clemson or UAT-Va. Tech because of the remote interest of UCLA.
Let's schedule a home and home down the road. There's no need to duck anyone. I'm all for the 1 BCS/3 muffins philosophy on the schedule. And BCA can be someone good rather than a Washington State or a K-State.
This whole Facebook thing would be on the radar of someone within the AD, right?
Ben Volin is a confirmed Hottie (in the same sense that Mr. United is).
Josh didn't say that. I said that last night on the show.
Sensi and Bags apparently sound similar on the internets radio to SteveFC.
Sensi send me an IM when you get a minute please.
uh oh....
Scootie B! It's two job Wednesday!
Sensi to the principal's office.
Hey Josh, I am sorry if I miss quoted you. I thought I heard you say that on gridiron breakdown. So sorry.
I'm pretty sure that Bama and Clemson got some sort of financial guarantee from the Chik Fil A folks over in Atlanta for last year's game.
Dont know how that matches up with what the normal take is for a home game.......but
the exposure is worth it IMO.
I'm not in trouble. I'm trying to get some information for Monica on the job side.
I am willing to rethink my stand if Neuseisel will either:
a. Promise the first carry to a true freshman.
or
b. Bet on Auburn
Jet:
Rick would probably bet the over.
Yeah, we'll go with that story, Sensi. ;-)
Why turn down UCLA?
Who wants to start
UCLA - Ga Dome.
At Miss St
Clemson.
I thought the games in the Ga. Dome were supposed to be a SEC/ACC challenge.
Why UCLA?
How about Free Shoes U or DOOK?
yup. 2 job wednesday! gotta love it.
Joey...
Looks like three W's to me.
The Gnome of Unknown said...
Maybe I should go pull for Ole Miss.I'm not trying to be ugly, Gnome, but statements like this really irk me, kidding or not. True fans stick with their team no matter what. I do agree, though, that JJ needs to go.
Jet, Jay G said this morning that Jermaine Johnson is no longer coming to Auburn.
The Gnome is a sad troll.
It's a poser.
Why does that look like 3 W's?
Florida has shown there's no need in playing more than one tough OC game. Why bother?
I don't know what the big deal is. Jacobs said our schedule is full for 2010. He offered 2012 when we have an opening. Seems to me he's doing his job.
Luv ...
It was all sarcasm ... none of those folks are on the team now.
Luv.
He was being Fuh-Seesh-Us.
Everyone on that list is GONE from AU.
ehyou - its just another NY Times hack peice on Auburn.
"Who wants to start
UCLA - Ga Dome.
At Miss St
Clemson."
I would. Not that it would matter in 2010, but the BCS couldn't say we weren't putting our best efforts out there schedule wise.
UCLA and Clemson, two middle of the road teams in their conference and Miss State a lower level SEC school, we shouldn't fear anything close to that even while rebuilding.
ehyou,
No knowing much about Auburn's schedule....
Who do they open with?
La Tech.
Scuze me ...
"None is"
I'm sure you know it's LA Tech FSJ.
Bingo RK
Actually I didn't...
I was too lazy to look it up.
the last few years, tub's staff recruited OLs like bowden recruited RBs. anyone remember demontray (one hand touch) carter and rusty williams? that's why heath evans (a FB) and clifton robinson (a WR) were the featured backs for AU in 1999.
Here a some names of potential OL backups "on the roster" at the pay sites. some we have heard of some are chris todds in waiting.
the only healthy viable one i see: jared cooper
the perpetually injured ones: eddins, odom, greene, roseman.
then there is vance smith who better be eating as i write this to have any chance at a backup spot.
last, is the "who the hell is that?" category: charles bates rsfr 6-2/291, andrew parmer rsfr 5-10/266, stephen gibbons rsfr 6-0 /235.
incoming recruits andre harris and john sullen better be ready to play if there is one starter injured. at least sullen is big enough to get in the way of a DL as the QB rolls away from his side of the line.
Oh, sorry Jet. I was just glancing through the posts and only Johnson's name stuck out.
I don't see fear as a factor.
The Auburn OL reminds me of the Indians' roster in "Major League."
GM: "This one's dead."
Show girl widow/owner: "Then strike him from the list."
nor did I read the whole post. What an idiot I am.
Don't beat yourself up, Luv.
I don't read half of what I write, either.
As a fan I would want to see those first three games, but as an AD with my job on the line, I must admit I would not.
2004 was unique. A big out of conference game would not have gotten us into the NC; the darlings were in it from the beginning. I doubt we will see another undefeated SEC team miss the title game again any time soon. Heck, there was a 2 loss SEC team that one the NC two years ago.
Michael, I agree with you.
2004 was very unique.
I know, I know. Something can't be "very unique." It is either unique or not.
Remember, we let Bowling Green out of a game to play Oklahoma and we get stuck with the Citadel. And it bites us in the butt.
There's one factor that we like to overlook ... we rose to No. 2 in the poll after the Georgia game ... then we flopped around against a bad Alabama team. Champions drop the hammer. I love that team, and those players. I hate that they didn't get a chance to play USC.
But we can't point fingers and whine with a straight face. Circumstances didn't help us, but we didn't help ourselves either.
Jet:
I agree with you about 2004. Had Auburn dropped the hammer on Alabama and Tennessee in the SEC Championship game they would have played for the whole thing.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think we only rose to a tie for #2 in one of the polls, and we were never all that close in the true BCS rankings. Even if we had killed bama, I don't think we had a shot.
Someone do the research.
I have to agree with Michale, an undefeated OU and USC would have gone before us no matter how we played the last two games.
Well the thing is michael....Had they dropped the hammer on those two teams it would have at least given the AP poll the option of giving us a split champ.
How would it have been split? USC would have been the champ of both, right?
With what USC did, we could never have jumped them in the AP poll. The AP poll had us close to OK, not USC.
When we didn't hamma Bama, it didn't matter about UT. One of the other two would have had to lost.
The math will likely show that the Citadel vs. Bowling Green was a killer on the computer. The lack of the hammer hurt on the polls.
I agree, Michael, with your original premise that we're unlikely to see an unbeaten SEC team miss the title game.
I agree with you about 2004. Had Auburn dropped the hammer on Alabama and Tennessee in the SEC Championship game they would have played for the whole thing.
No they wouldn't.
I love this - This is how Bammers say that by them staying with AU in 04 it cost AU a shot at the BCS game.
It wouldn't have made a damn.
Here's an Auburn man who says by not doing what we should have done it was the legal equivalent of wetting our pants during the closing argument.
My memory may be failing me, but at the time it seemed pretty apparent that OK or USC had to lose for us to leap frog them. Auburn had a better credentials, even with the close bama game. Both USC and OK almost lost to some pretty bad teams.
Citadel certainly hurt us in the computers, but I am willing to bet my sheep farm that if we had played Bowling Green and beaten bama like we beat Georgia, we still would not have leapfrogged anyone. My opinion is right and anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot.
Michael,
I don't know why you needed to remind me of that. For crying out loud, I wake up every morning to a note on my refrigerator that says "(Name redacted), you are an idiot." You've been putting it there every night, haven't you?
I must admit that I am a little concerned with being on the same side of the discussion as the biggest Bama hater on earth...
:-)
Not surprisingly, FSJ, it disturbs me, too.
2005-2008 AU signed 103 different players. i only counted juco and prep schools guys (like el toro) that were on the list twice as one player. 35 of them that would have had at least one year of eligibility remaining are no longer or never were with the team that is a 34% attrition rate. some of the big names were blackmon, slaughter, alonzo horton, rex sharpe, lee tilley, patrick trahan, greg smith, raven gray, mike harness, bryant miller, enrique davis, bo harris, chaz ramsey. all were four stars or better. two now play for ole miss.
the new staff had better fix that problem if they want to have any chance whatsoever.
If you think that taking Citadel off our schedule would have gotten us into the NC game, then you are nothing but a bammer!
Other than saying that its so....please give me a reason AU would have jumped Chokelahoma in 2004 by beating the Criminal Tyde any worse than they did.
Please?
Make your case so I can take a dump on it.
Michael sleeps with puppets, bears and pirates. So there.
It's just idiot-speak, inverness. When OK almost lost to OSU and USC almost lost to Stanford, Herbstreit and the gang called it great teams figuring out how to win.
We have a close game against bama, and the media hordes say that we aren't big leaguers. Let the real big boys play for the championship.
Here's a hint: they never thought we were big leaguers, and we never had a champ of jumping either team and ruining the greatest championship of all time, two perennial national powers fighting to the death to be the greatest champion ever. No chance Auburn is in that game.
Everyone is an idiot.
Mchiel, you are exactly right...oh no, not that everyone is an idiot...your previous post.
I agree, michael. Auburn wouldn't have played in the NC game because Auburn always gets the shaft.
But because of 2004 we no longer have BCS pre season rankings and won't see another SEC team be left out.
