See ... that's what I thought. You have veered from your original argument. I don't remember seeing Petrion on the sidelines last year. You wanted to compare last years staff to this one. So, the $20 bucks is for every member of last years staff who beats this years staff.

Petrino doesn't count.

I think AU bears UT, MSU, Ark. Not sure about UGA or UAT, but I think UAT will not be as good as last year. They are probably one year away from where they want to be. Last year was a fluke, but they will follow it up in 2010 with a strong team.

in hindsight, tub's recruiting fell off the face of the earth after 2004 just as it should have been picking up major steam. they got lazy. end of story. he's gone. he and AU and fans are better for it.

10:19 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I agree wtc. We need to look to the future. First thing is to find a QB. The next thing is to find around 3 or 4 more linemen.

10:20 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Jhag-I saw that earlier. So after getting 17 linebackers on scholly, they are going after 17 qb's now?

The man can recruit there is no doubt. I think our staff will do just fine in that area. Our focus will be in other areas for now. Looking 2 years out, Rollinson or Moseley will take the lead role on this team.

10:20 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

wtc...

Lets just say he sorta misspoke when talking about the "tea" parties today.

10:20 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I haven't veered from anything, but last years staff against this years is fine.

10:21 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Outstanding jhag..

Thanks for the info.

10:22 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Regarding PM posting, I am pleased that Caudle is in the lead spot for qb. Look at malzahn's offense. I do not recall tulsa throwing deep all the time. Mainly have dump passes 10-15 yards down field and let them make the plays. if they can make plays as we hope, the O will be fine. (Also need no injuries on the OL)

10:23 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

And the bet is for teams with coaches from this last years staff that play us. Currently I count the list as Ole Miss, MSU, Bama, and UT. What are the other two teams you are listing?

10:24 PM
Blogger wtc said...

FSJ-I am hearing the walk on from ATL is probably going to come out of spring as the #2 QB.
Has the luster fallen off of Star.

10:24 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

wtc, Tulsa's head coach dictated the number of times they threw deep per game. I believe the number was 10 times, if I remember correct. Than number seems high to me, but I believe it is what I read.

Caudle was a high profile recruit, so there is potential there. I just wish there was more experience.

10:25 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Not sure...

I think McElroy is the clear #1.

I'll probably be able to tell you a little more after Saturday.

10:26 PM
Blogger wtc said...

If AU gets a couple of commits these weekend, everyone will feel a lot better. I have no inside info, but it will make all feel better.

10:26 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Steve-I think it was 5 times per game, but I will take number as long as they are to AU receivers.

Caudle was highly rated so you are correct, there is potential. Maybe he is more poised under center.

10:28 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

chip, Tuberville had excellent recruiting classes in 2005, 2006, and 2007. The 2008 class was small, but turned out to be pretty good. The 2009 class was looking strong, although you can't say for sure. Usually the biggest names showed up on signing day, like Kodi and Ziemba.

10:28 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

wtc, 5 times per game sounds much more reasonable. I am not sure why I am thinking 10, but it seems like what I read. Caudle supposedly has a good arm, but I really haven't seen enough of him to have any kind of idea.

10:30 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Steve-I agree those were good classes, but if they don't stay, they don't play. Tubbs could have signed 20 5 star players but if they leave, for whatever reason, it doesn't matter because someone has to be on the field to take the snap and many of those are not and will not take the field for AU.

10:31 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I will feel good about this years recruiting when we see some big time linemen commit. There have been several put Auburn high on their list. I wouldn't mind seeing us sign an ungodly number of linemen. 10 would be a great number.

10:31 PM
Blogger ADP said...

Dang ... the list is shrinking since I doubt we will play IU (or at least I hope not. I think that bowl game would be very early december). so that brings us to four teams. I'm with it.

10:32 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Classes lose player. It is just part of football. Now, since Tuberville left, we have lost a lot more of those players. Why is up for argument. The biggest question I have is why we didn't sign more linemen in this last class. We have immediate playing time to offer.

10:33 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Sounds good Phred. Then Ole Miss, UT, MSU, and Bama are it. I was thinking a coach went to Georgia, but I can't find a staff listing, so lets just go with the four.

10:34 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

And as for the bowl game, if we make a bowl game, I will give you $20 regardless of the team or if we win or lose.

10:35 PM
Blogger wtc said...

I don't think anyone went to UGA. AU was looking to get 2 of their guys and didn't.

10:37 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I am good with the four games.

10:41 PM
Blogger j-z said...

Focus people...I need Vodka, Stat.

10:41 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Not sure who wrote it earlier but he said @35%-40% (don't remember exactly)of the the recruits over the past 4 years were no longer at AU. If that is true, that is a large number. Au didn't just lose them this year under Chizik.
Anyway, maybe we can recruit some good players and keep them. That will be a big step. And they need to be linemen.

10:42 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Phred, you will likely win the first against MSU, but I think the next 3 are mine.

10:44 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

We have lost a crap load of them since Tuberville left, although I don't know if I would blame Chizik.

10:45 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Steve-I think AU wins at least 3 of the 4 if they have no injuries upfront.

10:46 PM
Blogger wtc said...

How any left after Tubbs left? I do not know. I'm thinking 4 maybe 5 at most. Not really sure.

10:47 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

My guess is we win one of the four if we find a QB.

Johnson, Slaughter, Marks, and a couple of linemen come to mind of the top of my head.

10:52 PM
Blogger Monica said...

Something like that, WTC. I don't think I'll be up much longer.

10:53 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Wasn't really counting Mrks as he went pro. I think we are counting those that just left AU to go somewhere else or were put in JUCO or prep and never came back.

10:55 PM
Blogger wtc said...

I am just about out of here myself. Been a long day. Thursday I think I will start off slow and taper.

10:57 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Tuberville was good at keeping players from going pro. I think him leaving made it a no brainer for Marks.

10:58 PM
Blogger wtc said...

night all.

11:01 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

One problem with recruiting rankings is how they are ranked based on signing day commitments. I would like to see an updated ranking system based on the players that actually make it into school in the fall. As WTC has pointed out, several of AU's top players never made it to campus or didn't hang around for long. As an example, Raven Gray, Jermaine Johnson, Reggie Hunt and Deron Furr were some of the higher rated players in the 08 class. None of them are currently on the roster.

11:01 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

There were several offensive linemen that left. I wish I remember the names.

11:02 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

steve, here a reposting of something i threw in the ring earlier today. i think it bears out that tubs recruiting classes were not as strong as everyone believed.

2005-2008 AU signed 103 different players. i only counted juco and prep schools guys (like el toro) that were on the list twice as one player. 35 of them that would have had at least one year of eligibility remaining in 2009 are no longer or never were with the team that is a 34% attrition rate. some of the big names were blackmon, slaughter, alonzo horton, rex sharpe, lee tilley, patrick trahan, greg smith, raven gray, mike harness, bryant miller, enrique davis, bo harris, chaz ramsey. all were four stars or better. two now play for ole miss.

these names represent a lot of wasted time and effort to get them to do nothing more than sign a piece of paper in many cases.

11:03 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

What happened with Reggie Hunt?

11:05 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

hunt is at co-lin juco i think. i have not seen mention of him for 2010 class. new staff may go another direction.

11:07 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Some of those were lost because Tuberville dumped us.

11:08 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

i also read PMs blog. lots of troubling observations.

11:08 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

for the record, i was a die hard tubs defender. as long as he had mostly cleaned house after 12/1/2008 (which i believe was the date most of his staff would have had tenure in AL retirement system), i was willing to give him a few more years to right the ship. having seen the new coaches in action to this point, the correct decision was made by all parties involved to part ways if that house cleaning was not going to happen. was chiz the right hire? the jury is still out. it surely was not as high profile as i had hoped for, but i like the attitude he and the new staff have and they seem to have a plan rather than just drifting aimlessly and offering anyone that came through their summer camps.

11:15 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

As I said, Tuberville had enough of Auburn.

11:18 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

apparently the phelon jones thing is dead. AU would have to cough up a scholly for 3 years for him to play two. i still say if he was not good enough to cover lsu's WRs in practice, i didn't want him covering them for AU in a live game. it says a lot lsu would release him to go play for a division rival.

11:20 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I couldn't figure out what was going on with the Phelon Jones thing.

Not to be ugly, but how many times are you guys going to have the same, tired argument about Tuberville?

5:26 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

That argument will continue for awhile.

I still complain about Terry Bowden's recruiting and he's been gone over a decade.

6:15 AM
Blogger Jet said...

Quick thoughts ...

1. I didn't have a problem with Jet Gate (hence my original name of Jet G. Ate).

2. Tubs needed to go ... please see Jay's G succinct comment.

3. I'm not bothered about declining one game in the Georgia Dome. Now, go make a home and home with UCLA, USC or the Patriots. I'm for home games in our stadium. Call it a Legion Field hangover where Tennessee and Georgia Tech refused to come to Auburn. It's the Loveliest Village, come see it.

4. Some time between 4 and 25 years, there will be a major hurricane in a major American city.
