Sen'Derrick Marks gets his wish

Hey everyone. Former Auburn DT Sen'Derrick Marks watched his best-case scenario unfold tonight when the Tennessee Titans picked him in the second round of the NFL Draft.

The Titans were the only team to fly Marks in for an in-person visit. He had a great time talking with Tennessee officials -- particularly head coach Jeff Fisher -- and really hoped things would work out that way.

So it happened.

Here is some reaction from Marks:
  • On being surprised about where he was drafted: A lot of people had me in the second or third round. But I saw a lot of guys go ahead of me that I didn’t expect, but it really didn’t matter to me. It just feels great."

  • On his reaction: ``Oh man, I just went crazy….I went crazy. When I went to visit the Titans, I asked Coach Fisher how it all works on draft day and he asked if I really wanted to know and he told me. When he just called me, he said, 'Didn’t I tell you that it was going to be a great feeling?'”

Actually, I had feared that Marks would end up getting drafted in the lower rounds. Out of the guys we had go pro, I thought he had the best chance improving his stock with a great senior season.

You never know with these players going pro. Sometimes players fairly highly regarded end up not getting drafted. I was certain Marks would be drafted, but another season and he could have likely went in the first round.

Marks has a great opportunity with the Titans. Our defensive line coach is great at developing talent. I'm glad he's coming.

I think both sides will be happy with this pick. A great player going to a team with a great coaching staff. Seems like a win-win situation to me.

Powers, at least to me, is a guy with a chance of going undrafted. I hope for the best for him, but I have seen better players go undrafted.

After 2nd round ... undrafted is better, you can pick your team. Guaranteed money is basically gone after the second round, except for meager signing bonuses.

Chris Simms was a guy I thought did the right thing turning pro last season. He was a guy that hadn't had a great season until his junior year. He was basically overachieving and not likely to do much better.

Steve, I was afraid his size and 40 time would sink Powers, but he seems to be drawing some interest from some draft tidbits I have read. I hope he gets an opportunity, the guy is a complete player and could help out on special teams as well as being an extra DB.

Powers hitting always impressed me. He could make it, but his size could cost him.

Nothin' like a flat tire to start the day.

I feel your pain, Jet.

For mechanically challenged people like me, flat tires are no more fun than doing yard work.

And congrats to Sen'Derrick! WAR EAGLE!

And thanks to JGT for keeping me informed. I would have never known otherwise. Y'all enjoy the race today.

That's a good deal for him. If he works on the other parts of his game, he can be a solid player in the NFL. Tennessee's a great organization to be a part of.

I never thought I'd read someone confuse Pat Sims for Chris Simms.

Speaking of the draft, Andre Smith going to the Bengals might not be a good thing for him if he doesn't have discipline problems since they had many issues with arrests over the past few years.

The Titans would be my second favorite team behind the Steelers, so I'm good with Marks heading there. They needed some help on the D line with Haynesworth leaving.

That is great news for Powers. I was surprised when he entered the draft, but it looks like he had done his homework. Powers seemed to impress teams the more they studied him. I would have loved to see him and Marks playing for AU next season, but I'm glad things worked out for them in the draft.

I will take exception with people trying to compare AS from bammer to Willie Anderson. NO comparision in terms of talent or character.
