Chizik's contract

Hey everyone. We knew Gene Chizik was making $1.9 million as Auburn's coach, but now we have proof of that agreement.

NOTE: A proper contract, outlining Chizik's performance bonuses and other professional expectations, should be finalized before Media Days in late July.

One thing I know about Chizik's contract...it will not have a 6 million dollar buyout.

I like how you took initiative and made it happen. How Sensible.

It's the life of the contract, right?

Total contract: $9.5 mil
After one year - $7.6 mil
Two years - $5.7 mil
Three years - $3.8 mil
Four years - $1.9 mil

How many years before the real pressure starts for Chizik assuming things don't totally bottom out?

1:08 PM

I think he'll get three if all holds constant. Year three will need to show marked improvement though. Just the nature of the SEC right now.

Haha no worries, Sensi. We're all a bit off here. Michael leaves the dry erase markers uncapped on purpose.

That Sutton's Drug Store 1/3# bacon cheeseburger, fries, and fountain Diet Coke with cherry syrup sure was good for lunch. Yummmmy.

Sorry, late getting back to this new fresh page of the thread.

Les Miles- Lost me when he walked out with the bluetooth headset on one ear for his first game in Baton Rouge against Tennessee. Welcome to the SEC Les.

Chizik- Pressure will begin to mount on him in 2011 in my opinion. Most coaches get a pass their first 2 years, unless they coach basketball at Kentucky.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

This upcoming year is scary. No established QB, no room for any injuries on OL. If we're real lucky it could be ok. With just the usual number of injuries, it could get real ugly.

1:12 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

One thing I am sure of...if he replicates 5/19, he won't be the coach and JJ will be gone.

I really think we need to win 8 games this year to really keep up the talent flow and to keep credibility as a "Top 6" team.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm with you THT. This year will be a challenge, but is doable.

2010 2011 need to show growth

1:20 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sean,

I agree with the 5-19 thing.

I don't know if there are 8 wins on the schedule right now, but 6 or 7 is doable if the chips fall right and the injury bug moves else.

1:21 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

I'm thinking, win 7 and win the bowl game.

1:23 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ah, that makes sense, Sean.

I know it sounds crazy, but I'd love to see Auburn make the BHam bowl. It beats Shreveport.

1:24 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Honestly, we don't have any world beaters on our schedule. Everyone has question marks of some kind, including Auburn and especially Auburn. It should be a really interesting season.

1:26 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, I'm starting to turn on WVU as I now read they lost the entire line in addition to Pat White.

I still think Kentucky may sneak up on some people including Auburn.

1:29 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is still way too early, but why not. Revised season predictions now that I don't have to listen to the Bammer side every week on a show.

Louisiana Tech - Win
Mississippi State - Win
West Virginia - Win
Ball State - Win
Tennessee - Win
Arkansas - Loss/Win - depends on how far along the offense is
Kentucky - Loss - As I said, they may sneak up on people.
LSU - Loss - still very talented.
Ole Miss - Loss/Win - depends on if Nutt has flopped yet
Furman (HC)- Win
Georgia - Loss/Win - I need to see more of Georgia to call this one.
Alabama - WIN Upset of the Year - I think the Bammers are set for a fall or I'm just giving over to my homer tendencies.

7-5 with an outside chance of more.

Add your thoughts please.

Blogger Seanzie said...

Sensi, I'm with you on most of those...many a game could be a toss up. A lot of it depends on us and where we are with things.

1:40 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

I don't think we lose to Kentucky. I can't see us losing to Ole Miss at home. UA and UGA we will win one but not both.

1:41 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Eddie makes a good argument on his blog about starting a frosh QB.

I said there (and now here), if things aren't clicking with the incumbents, I can see going with a younger guy just to get ready for the long haul. It could be like what Ohio State did last year with Pryor.

1:42 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Lots of toss ups, too many for my taste. Hopefully with a couple of good recruiting classes there can be some distance put on Arky, Ole Miss, and the like.

I willed the thread

1:57 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Well, sense Sensi started it, I will follow suit:

Louisiana Tech - Win
Mississippi State - Win
West Virginia - Win
Ball State - Win
Tennessee - Loss, I hope I am wrong here, but I our good fortunes against Tennessee probably ran out last year when our offense couldn't do anything put 3 and out and punt and we still won.
Arkansas - Loss- I believe Arky is a good team.
Kentucky - Win, dangorous game, but I believe we pull it out.
LSU - Win - Just have a feeling about this one.
Ole Miss - Loss - On paper, best team in the West, will Nutt bring them down?
Furman (HC)- Win
Georgia - Loss- Mark Richt and Georgia have Auburn's number and it is still on speed dial.
Alabama - Win- Upset special. Just feels right.

At the end of the year, 8-4 and I would deem it a great year if that happens.

Sensi- Thanks for the plug on the blog.

I am seeing where Robert Cooper will get a shot at QB. I don't believe Jay had him listed. He was suppose to be a grey shirt, but since someone else didn't qualify, he is good to go. This is just another example of why I think Malzahn is not satisfied with Caudle or Burns.

2:03 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

Sensi, that UT, Arkansas, and Kentucky stretch looks very dangerous. I would love to see AU get at least 2 W's from that group, but 1-2 is also very possible. I will stick to my earlier 6-6 or 7-5 prediction and hope for better. I really would be satisfied with a 7-5 record as long as the program is showing an upswing for the future. This roster is pencil-thin at too many positions for a huge improvement this year.

2:05 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Agreed, SteveFC. I think he wants new blood for the offense. I just hope he plans to stay around a few years to develop this before he is named HC or HCIW.

Mon, can you message him, compliment his calfs, and ask him how long he plans to stay? ;-)

2:05 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I think we have a shot against West Virgina, but I suspect LSU will spank us like a red headed step child. They were weak at QB and in the secondary last season. I think they have found a QB and will be very tough. I think they finish second to Ole Miss in the west.

Arkansas is also going to be a concern. I think they will be much improved and since we belly flopped against one of their worst teams in recent memory last season, things aren't looking good there.

2:05 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I do think we overstate the suckness of last year's team. We were in games against LSU and Georgia to the end. Most of our losses were in close games, although a lot of them were against teams we should have beat. Last year's team didn't suck. The offense was just bad the first half of last season due to execution problems. The second half of last season our offense got worse. Execution was better, but the offense was about a creative as a stick.

2:09 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

We are discounting sticks there, SFC.

When I was a kid playing "army" in the woods, sticks could be many things.

2:10 PM

Last year's dial-an-offense under Tubs/Ensminger/Nall/et.al after the Vandy game was less inventive than what I've seen from pee wee leagues.

The Georgia game featured the best playcalling from that group.

The Alabama game was the biggest phone in I've ever seen from an Auburn team in terms of gameplan.

2:12 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Can someone explain to me why we ran the "War Eagle" formation to perfection against Tennessee in a drive that resulted in a touchdown and never ran it again the rest of the year?

2:17 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

And as much as it pains me to say this, I wouldn't be shocked to see Bama in the thick of the SEC West race. The O-Line and QB are real questions, but that defense is going to be strong. Please forgive me for thinking this.

2:18 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Eddie, I suspect that the war eagle formation didn't fit in with our offensive scheme. It worked.

By the way, don't forget that we had LSU beat until our punter decided to invent the onside punt.

Yesterday, I hinted that I had a story I enjoyed more than the "There Will Be (More) Blood" series from yesterday.

Monica made reference to it last night because I shared it with her.

Rather than clutter this neighborhood with another gargantuan post, those who are interested may check it out at www.jetinthegump.blogspot.com.

It is not intended to be a competitor to HABOTN in anyway. Just a place for me to vent.

Hope you enjoy the story. It's every bit true.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Eddie,

I call that a victim of the BBQ cuffs. You know how he was when things starting going sideways for the offense. I firmly believe he and the assts. put the cuffs on that kind of creativity from Franklin.

I don't think that staff knew what to do with MF#27 and I'm not sold this group does yet either based on what I've heard Jay G. say on DandB radio and the spring.

2:19 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Tuberville made a mistake when he first Franklin in the middle of last season. True, Franklin was going to be a goner, but going without him only made things worse, as hard as it is to believe that.

I have no problem with Ensminger. He was basically screwed at Auburn. He ran the offense at times but he never was apparently given the opportunity to implement his offense.

2:23 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I like to think of last season as a Vandy season. We had the chance to win most of the games, but were able to make adjustments to not allow that to happen.

2:27 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think Ensminger had folders from the past 4 offenses at Auburn and was trying to run those things which was a bad call.

Water under the bridge.

Malzhan and co. appear to be on the same page and that is a fresh change of pace.

The Barn will be lucky to win four games this year.

All these predictions to beat Bama are stoopid. Don't you realize how far behind you are? Of course not. Saban has got the state on lock. Look at all the recruits you are losing to Alabama.
