Chizik adds an eighth commitment

This may be older news to some of you, but Auburn has landed another commitment to its 2010 recruiting class. This happened last night.

Georgia CB Jonathan Mincy, according to our friends at AuburnSports.com, AuburnUndercover.com and ITAT, has promised to sign with the Tigers in February.

Scout.com and Rivals.com both rate him as a 3-star prospect. They both consider him one of the top 10 cornerbacks available in the Southeast.

Mincy has scholarship offers from ... a whole wad of major programs.

Here's a look at the players Auburn has committed so far:
OL Shon Coleman, Olive Branch, Miss.
LB Jake Holland, Pelham
ATH Shaun Kitchens, Atlanta, Ga.
K Cody Parkey, Jupiter, Fla.
WR Jeremy Richardson, Springville
LB Jawara White, Troy
LB Jessel Curry, Buford, Ga.
CB Jonathan Mincy, Decatur, Ga.

jz-for AU to get a top ten class, several of the big time running backs and a couple of linemen will have to come aboard. AU can come close this year if they get Seastrunk, Reed, Dyer, and at least 2 highly rated OL.(IMO)

If a couple of the guys AU has get a bump in the rating system, AU doesn't have to get some of the others.

I suspect a top 12 class is very doable.

(But I don't follow recruiting that much)

As for the recruiting class, if we end up ranked in the top 15, I think this staff has done remarkably well. So far Richardson and Parkey are the only big time commits, but a lot of the others are close to being 4 stars.

10:34 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I tried to convince Wifey to get a Murano...she got a Tahoe.... b/c everybody else had one.

If the recruiting rating services truly take needs into account...AU will need 4 top OL for it to be top 10. I'm not sure there are 4 of the top OL still uncomitted.

10:35 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jet...that was complicated.

10:40 PM
Blogger wtc said...

I think several guys will go up in their 'rating'. AU kicker is the listed as #2 in nation on scout. Rivals doesn't rank them until the season so that will help.

I won't get all worked about a top 10 class becasue I am not sure there is a big difference.

Stanford is rated #9 on scout but they have 17 commits. Avg rating is 2.76. AU has 8 commits with avg rating of 3.13. I would say AU has the better class but Scout has AU at #22.

I have no idea if these rumors are true, but J Savage and C Thompson were spoken very highly of during practice. If these two, Cameron Henderson and PPL are really off the team they would join Reggie Hunt, DeRon Furr, Andre Wadley, Freddie Smooth, Jermaine Johnson and Raven Gray as commitments from 08 no longer on the team(for various reasons). That signing group would now look like a probation class.I hope this is not true.

If there is one thing that most Auburn fans get up in arms about, it would be tradition, especially the older generation. Bowden definitely did himself no favors when he added the orange shade to the jersey number and if they pulled retired numbers out of retirement, unless said honor'ed player gave his blessing, that would cause an uproar IMO. Pulling down pictures. Nobody seemed to mind when Bowden's came down :). Pat Dye, a whole different story.

I consider myself a traditionalist, but I hate the notion of retiring numbers.

I wish we had a Ring of Fame for great PLAYERS, or some such like the Cowboys have.

Sullivan, Bo, Rocker, Zeke Smith and Carlos Rogers have won major awards, and throw in Beasley and Jimmy Hitchcock FOR good measure and that would make a fine inauguaral class.

Then we could unleash 7, 34 and 88 again. Shoot, we could limit the inaugural class to those three.

D.Miller, the only problem with trying to replicate AU jerseys is the sleeve stripes. without doing a complete 'custom' jersey you're only going to get the stripes on 1/2 of the sleeve. Russell & Nike do this on their replica jerseys. so, long story short, we could probably do one for $50.

The problem with retiring jerseys is that it is done out of snap emotion.

If USA wins, I'll set Sean's couch on fire.

2:24 PM
Blogger Miller said...

I thought only WVU set their couches on fire?

Do we do that for soccer wins? Do we really care that much (?) about a grandiose game of kickball?

Jet:

At least one school (cant' remember which one) retires "jerseys" but not numbers. That may be the way to go.

It's sorta like a ring of honor thing, which, IMO is the best way to go too.

Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Harrison, I've bought hotel rooms and rental cars on Priceline, but never airline tickets. I assume you mean the bidding process, not buying them outright.

2:28 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Miller, we were out of it, people were talking about the death of USA soccer, the Internationals were bagging TEAM USA, we came back from the dead and are about to beat a team that hasn't been beaten in YEARS. I think I can sacrifice a couch to the fuego this one time in the name of grandoise kickball.

Where can I get the best seafood in Destin? What are a couple good options?

2:30 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

All, Auburn vs. West Virginia has been set to a 6:45 cst kickoff on ESPN or ESPN2.

2:31 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Sean, if you mean by years, they were beaten in 2006 in the World Cup.

2:33 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Word, thanks for the news Eduardo.

2:33 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Right, but I think since then they haven't lost.

2:33 PM
Blogger Miller said...

I like the passion, Sean.

In that case, I'll join you. Mind if I douse your couch with gasoline in preparation of the celebration?

2:34 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

So much for my DVR'ing the USA Match to watch later. Now i'm just following. The fact that we got to the second round is amazing, considering getting thumped by Brazil and Italy.

2:35 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Absolutely, if you bring the gas, I'll bring the matches.

2:36 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Speaking of couch burning, so we're set for a 6:45 game against the Hillbillies.

2:38 PM
Blogger Miller said...

Sweet! Now all we need is for someone to bring beer, brats and smores.

2:38 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

It's time we show our hillbillies from the north what a good southern butt kicking is all about. With Rollison, #7, at QB, we will be unstoppable.

2:39 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Sean, you're not going to need gas and your couch will be safe if the U.S. doesn't pick things up. Spain is just firing away right now.

2:40 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Eddie,

He'll be throwing to Benton No. 88, and Noel Devine will impaled by the divining rod of a linebacker, Eltoro, No. 34.

2:40 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

Scott- yes I mean throught the bidding. I was wondering if you get to choos the flight or they choose it for you

2:41 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I like it Jet. Unretire the numbers and unretire them quickly.

2:43 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I have bought airline tickets on Priceline, Travelocity, and Orbitz. They are all about the same.

I will even talk about futbol to keep from thinking about our stupid, stupid governor. What in the world was he thinking?

High Tide is my favorite. Low key, inexpensive, good food.
Louisiana Lagniappe is also very good. A little pricey buy not outrageous. Has a cajun twist. Excellent food.

Ehyou,

Outstanding avatar. Top notch.

RED CARD?!?!?!?!@?!

3:14 PM
Blogger Aeronaut said...

Harrison

I have bought tickets through priceline's name your own price, and the savings are not worth it. Ticket timings are not in your control, and you cant change or cancel ticket.

After you pay all the 'fees's etc there.. either you barely save any money, or you end up spending more. Getting tickets from airtran.com or other budget airlines is a better option.

There are always some good travel deals floating around.

3:15 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

That's dodgy at best. Same ref that gave us 2 reds vs Italy.

3:19 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Italy back in 2006, to clarify.

Is the match on internets TV somewhere?

Have yall kept up with the So Carolina Gov sit? This guy went AWOL for 7 days to have an affair in Argentina. The speculation got so bad that this morning's TV news erroneously reported that he was hiking nekkid on the Appalachian
Trail.

here's the AJC article: http://www.ajc.com/news/content/shared-gen/ap/National/US_SC_Governor_Where.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstab&imw=Y

USA wins!

Ends Spain's 35 match unbeaten streak. U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard was under constant pressure. Awesome play from him!

3:23 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

That red card was ridiculous, by the way.

3:24 PM

Thanks Aero

Blogger Jet said...

Hoopie,

C'mon, you gotta love some negative invalid speculation about a nekkid governor with his Argentinian mistress on the Appalachian Trail or in the Buenos Aires Ritz Carlton!

3:28 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

That ref sucks really bad. He has it in for USA.

3:35 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Can y'all smell it?

3:40 PM

And no, it's not the smell of the gasoline I'm pouring onto a sofa I just found...

Maybe you can smell the fear of the South Africans or the Brazilians! Either way, doesn't look like we're making it to a new page.

did i really just watch the USA futbol team BEAT ESP?
there was no doubt who won the game.
it was not luck, they just won it on the field.
you wouldn't think USA had any business being on the same field with ESP watching the disparity in technical ability, but the 2-0 score is all that matters.

bye bye 35 match unbeaten streak!
bye bye 15 match winning streak!
hello 3rd place match!

...and ESP = Spain for the fan that only follows american football.
