Recruiting chatter, Tuesday

Hey everyone. My little soiree with the Biscuits has ended, so I'm back to reclaim my title as Montgomery's fittest Auburn bloggist.

Of note:
  • NEW AS OF NOON: LB Jessel Curry of Buford, Ga., has committed to the Tigers. We know this because our friends at AuburnUndercover.com and AUTigers.com say so. He is the seventh player to commit -- and the third linebacker.

    Scout.com has Curry ranked as a 3-star. Rivals.com hasn't yet assessed him.

  • Our friends at AuburnSports.com reported yesterday that Arkansas TB Michael Dyer (left) had a swell unofficial visit to the Plains last weekend. Lache Seastrunk and Marcus Lattimore get a lot of hype, but Dyer also is a game-changing back with significant interest in the Tigers. I think he'll ultimately be worth watching more than the other two guys because Auburn has an Arkansas specialist (Gus Malzahn) on staff ... whose offensive marketing will sink in with Dyer. Oh, and Dyer has identified Auburn as his No. 1 team. For now.

  • I've been getting questions about QB Tyrik Rollison lately, which surprises me a tad. Yes, I believe he's going to qualify. Enrolling at Auburn will not make him a candidate to play this fall. The videos I watched -- you probably saw the same stuff -- showed me a versatile player who will need Malzahn to streamline his throwing mechanics. I don't believe Rollison will be a factor at quarterback this season. Neil Caudle and Kodi Burns have a lot of experience ... and a major head start in Applied Malzahnetics.

  • Birmingham LB LaDarius Owens (right) has been making himself visible at Auburn lately. He was part of Big Cat Weekend, then Owens rolled through campus last weekend after visiting his uncle. You old-timers know that uncle as James Owens, Auburn's first black scholarship signee. That was 1969. Now it's LaDarius Owens intriguing the Tigers' coaching staff. The Jess Lanier High linebacker, whose responsibilities often mimic a defensive end's, holds offers from dozens of schools. He has been non-committal about his college plans so far.

With Tyrik, I think it important to keep things in perspective. This guy could very well become the next Kodi Burns, meaning the QB that fans think will save the day but just isn't ready.

Also, I think Tyrik has been overhyped because of his ranking as the second best dual threat QB. Burns was ranked high on that list too, I believe around eight.

Tyrik wasn't nearly as highly sought after as many seem to believe. Take a list of his offers coming out of high school. Burns, Caudle, and Todd all had similar type attention. Of the four of them, Todd probably had the most impressive offer list.

I am not trying to be negative. I just see us waste to many good QBs by putting unrealistic expectations on them. Hopefully in a couple of years Tyrik will be a great quarterback for us. He just isn't the sure fix some seem to believe.

Steve, Tryik was a Parade All American at QB. Those don't make their way to the Plains all that often. Also, he was ranked in the top 5 in every category in which a QB can be ranked over at the rivals main page. He was considered a risk as a qualifier, which, is why many schools went in a different direction. Not saying he will be better than Kodi Burns but this kid has caught the eye of a lot folks.

The Curry commitment is interesting. We now have 3 linebacker commitments and from what I have read, we plan to sign 4.

The thing is, we still have a lot of good linebackers on our wish list including Owens, Terrel, Fortt, and Cornileus.

We seem to have an overcrowding situation developing at linebacker, but seeing as we lack depth there, it might not be a bad thing.

12:54 PM

Though not rated very highly by so-called recruiting experts this kid seems to have his head on straight. Solid pick-up.

Farve needs to retire to his 20,000 sf house on 1000 acres down in Hattiesburg, Ms.

Curry plays for Buford in Ga., which is a AA HS football factory. They regularly beat top-rated AAA and AAAA teams. Those kids are tuff and fundamentally sound. How well will that translate to the SEC...we'll see.

Someone posted over on AUNation that Aairon Savage tore his achilles tendon and is out for the season.

Curry can fly for a LB! I'll take him.
We plan to sign at least 4 LB. Likely 5, and if Fortt, Mosely, Cornelious want in too, we find room.

I make up for the extra money it costs in the summer by not ever running heat in the winter.

My wife keeps it at 76 in our house. When I get home, I put my foot down and turn it to 75.

It's a compromise. I burn up in the summer and she is happy, she freezes in the winter when we keep it at 67 and I am happy. Cheapness rules the day!

70 would be fine for me, but MrsTHT would beat me if I spent that much money on AC.

Now in the winter, it's never set above 66 and I freeze my doodads off.

THT, we aren't so different, you and I.

Mon- that's not true. I eat fried shrimp and red meat, eggs, bacon, sausage and other non-sugar nutrients.

"I think he'll ultimately be worth watching more than the other two guys..."

Does this mean Dyer is the RB most likely to sign with Auburn, or is his recruitment more wide-open than the other two, thus making it more interesting to watch? Am I reading too much into that statement?

So the wife's friend is a dude? Hmmmm, sounds like a crowded backfield you got there, THT. You should become very jealous and accuse her of stuff and see how she reacts. I use this method all the time to see if my wife is cheating on me.

3:50 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Michael, believe me, that's not a concern.

3:53 PM
Blogger michael said...

Even when there is no concern, it is good to accuse your wife of stuff just so she thinks you are suspicious. It will keep her in line later. Come on THT, you got to play the game!

3:55 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

right on Michael, like when i spend all our cash on blow and then blame her for taking the money and buying stupid stuff

the dude is nice, toooooo nice.

Harrison, we should write a marriage manual and sell to THT and others for $100. We will call it "Marriage: How to Gain and Maintain Power in Your Relationship"

i am in Michael. although i never see a project through to the end, so be prepared to do most of the work. Just ask my wife about that, if you know what i mean

I have no idea what you mean, Harrison. Please spell it out in great detail.

2 things...
1) Mon, that is not a fair trade. It is harder to learn and teach Alabamish than it is to learn or teach Spanish. The translations are more difficult.

2) I just saw a hovercraft on the lake! That thing was cool... I gotta get me one!

4:05 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

DANG! I don't either I just hear other people say stuff like that

4:06 PM
Blogger michael said...

Well Harrison, if it is any consolation, your statement seemed well thought out and provocative, so who cares if it means anything? Just ask my high school math teacher if it means anything, if you know what I mean.

THT, good luck! (and remember what we talked about)

I may be the last one to know about this, but here is a very cool mini-documentary about the '72 Iron Bowl.

The Amazin's

(it's narrated by liquid terminator)

Blogger Harrison said...

i definitely know what you mean

4:10 PM

Do you think the people who made that documentary realize they misspelled "Amazings"?

Dang, ehyou found out about the documentary.
Well, he was the last one.

Armed with six fried peach pies, I am back at the Hangar. And only team Team Jet Dog, "Z," was here to greet me.

That's OK. I'll survive.

I think if you are forced to play with a puppet you should wear a tater mit in order to cause the most discomfort possible to the offending puppet.

One would think a hand up the rectum would be the most discomfort for a puppet. That's is part of the reason they are so evel, they don't seem to mind it
