Morning recruiting linkage

Hey everyone. Perhaps you should peep the short story appearing in today's editions of the Advertiser. It chronicles what Gene Chizik et al. have accomplished with their recruiting effort so far ... and where they're headed from here.

LINK: Auburn focused on fulfilling recruiting needs

SCHEDULE UPDATE: I am doing two fun things at Auburn today. I will be a guest speaker/critiquer at a high-school journalism workshop.

The main event, get this, is a mock press conference with Trooper Taylor. I'll try to get some of this recorded either on video or at least on the HABOTN. Should be a hoot.

I'm also interviewing Tommy Thigpen this afternoon. I have several things to ask him about his role in recruiting, his career approach, his mentor and Auburn's safeties.

After reading the Gattis article, I think the status of Savage is still unclear. They are still saying they don't know. When PPL got injured on the opening kickoff of last season, he thought it was a minor thing. That minor thing kept him out for the season, so I guess we just have to wait and see.

Ninety-five percent of the time my mother cooked cornbread, it involved the stove rather than the oven.

I haven't seen Jay attacking JCCW. I think he just wants the person that actually tracks down the stories to get credit for them. Also, the HABOTN is different than the JCCW. I think we all count on the HABOTN to be factual, which JCCW is more opinionated, not that there is anything wrong with that. There is just a difference between news and opinion.

JayGT - "Piqued" is a really cool word which I would have interpreted you to mean the ones who didn't attend BCW are getting all excited about Auburn since they heard about it.
But out of curiosity, I just looked it up. Knowing your great command of the English language, I'm now worried. Did you mean it in the following manner, or in the way I originally interpreted it?
1 to arouse anger or resentment in : irritate --what piques linguistic conservatives — T. H. Middleton
2 to excite or arouse especially by a provocation, challenge, or rebuff

—Synonyms

1. offend, sting, nettle, vex, irritate, chafe. 2. affront. 3. stimulate, stir, prick, incite, goad.

—Antonyms

1. please. 2. compliment.

That detailed look of "WTH?" on Saban's face when D.J. Hall dropped a sure TD into the hands of Jerraud Powers.

The fire in the belly of Tubs when "Boom" was dragging back to the sideline vs. the Gators.

The look of disgust in Coarch Urban Meyers when Wes Byrum stuck it between the man's goalposts for the second time.

And yes, I saw the ineptitude of 3-2, losing to Vanderbilt, stinking it up against Tennessee and phoning it in against UAT.

Once you've had HD, you'll never go back.

THT - I managed a major coup in my opinion in the LCD purchase. I got mine at what I gather to have been the end of the model year for it. They wanted to move it out the door and I wanted to help them. It was marked down considerably and I managed to get the price knocked down even further. I'd been researching it for awhile and as I recall, when that model first came out it had a $5k+ sticker on it. Believe me, I didn't pay anything near that much for it.

It was my understanding that LN55A950 was a CCFL backlit LCD tv. The LED type Samsung tvs have 'UN' prescript.

LN55A950 specs - CNET
that says CCFL.

UN55B---- specs - CNET .
that says LED backlit.

On Samsung's own website you can choose between the LCD and LED tvs.
Too many links.

I think it is safe to say we don't know on Savage. I have seen that Chizik referred to it as a slight injury and nothing to worry about. The truth will come out soon enough.

We should be okay on the OL as long as there are no serious injuries. The OL isn't like most other positions, they don't substitute a lot there.

1:30 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Aero - from Samsung web site Q&A via the link you provided...The A950 was a 2008 model and has indeed been discontinued. There is no one model that replaced it, however. Since the A950 was an LED lit display, the current generation of Samsung LED TVs (6000, 7000, and 8000 series) would technically be the models that that replaced the A950.

So here we go, again.

Saying... "I'm being told by a source that I trust 100% that Michael Dyer is a done deal to Auburn. Not shocking w/ the recent news around Dyer, but I still always thought he would end up at Arkansas. Great get for Auburn."

Just a rumor from a recruiting site but, I like hearing it.

I would hope that AU has privacy policies in place to prevent the coach from discussing a player's medical condition. Especially without consulting the player and getting his specific permission. Too many atorney's in the world..ya know?

I'm in development/construction. We have unforseen issues arise constantly. Most are resolved easily, but the exact details of the situation usually change during problem resolution. If I issued press statements parroting every change...it would seem like chaos to the ignorant masses.

The coaches are smart to not say anything until they know for sure. Why provide fodder to the ignorant masses?

I mean..ya got bloggers eating their own b/c someone jumped the gun on the Savage sit and now we want the coach to do the same? Seriously folks.

If coach has facts and has permission to release private medical info..then OK.

Why are fans suspicious ....regardless of who the coach is?

I'm impressed that our coaches/AD know when to keep their mouth shut. That is much better than spouting to a bunch of suspicious fans. Fans DON"T have a RIGHT to know.

3:11 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Actually if you read ALL of the articles regarding Chiz's comments in Huntsville. He told the reporters that he is not at liberty to release info. Most of the reporter's failed to include that statement in their reports.

I'm of the opinion that until proven otherwise, the coach is on OUR side. Most reporter's are on the side of their employer.

3:14 PM
Blogger ortho54 said...

I agree with Hoopie. Coach is on our side and we should respect that. I feel bad for Savage, but its June, it really doesn't matter that we know now or not. When the team lines up or fall practice we'll know.

3:26 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

You tell 'em Hoopie. I agree 110% with you (no insult intended). I suspect the only reason CGC gave some ambiguous speak is because he didn't want to be rude and pretend the asking reporter didn't even exist.

I think Chizik shared what he knew. We are just impatient these days and expect to know things immediately.

I guess Chiz could employ a "Sabanesque" response.

Of course some whiny, selfish fan would find fault with that also.

If it were me...I would be even more "direct" than Saban. I would probably point out the stupidity of any stupid question from the press and subsequently get in trouble for it.

I've been enjoying the CWS. I gave up all pro sports years ago, thereore the CFB doldrums are good times to go to the gym and finally reduce the weight and blood pressure gained from the previous football season. This, of course, allows capacity to gain weight during the next season. So far this cycle has worked well.

3:51 PM
Blogger Cory said...

I'm not sure why Chizik said what he said. Hoopie's correct though, it's really none of our business.

I've read that Savage has already had surgery and is lost for the year by people that definitely know.

3:54 PM
Blogger ehyou said...

If it was a privately owned team, it would be none of our business. It's a state university and subject to public scrutiny. That's like saying that what the government does is none of our business.

It is medical information about a private citizen that was working out on his own time. If for no other reason, there are laws that prevent such.

There is also the decency of not releasing medical information regarding an Auburn Student.

I take it that you don't believe the coach when he said that he is not at liberty to discuss.

4:09 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Chiz knows what's wrong with Aairon Savage. Personally, I think he ought to share what he can within reason. He has a fanbase that expects access to a reasonable amount of information.

There is an implied limited surrender to the right to privacy when you enter the world of big-time college athletics.

Any coach that snipes at the media for asking (ours, theirs or anyone elses) is either an egomaniac or a moron. They're asking what we all want to know.

If Aairon's not playing next season because an Achilles tendon injury, it's news. But it's not what HIPAA was trying to address.

If Aairon had a non-football medical condition, then it's a different matter. By being cryptic, it seems, well, silly.

4:09 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

ehyou....my guess is that your beef is really with the AU lawyers and state privacy laws.

4:11 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jet.....ask some attorneys if they are willing to defend against "implied" reduction of privacy on a contingency basis. I don't know any that would.

4:14 PM
Blogger michael said...

I just talked to Savage, he says he is playing this year.

4:18 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Hoopie,

I don't know any defense attorneys who work on contingency. I won't argue the law.

Frankly, I don't think the kids give a rip about medical privacy for injuries.

It makes a masterful screen for the coaches to hide behind.

I'm all for personal privacy and it's not even the Savage issue that bothers me. It's more a general dissimination of information from the university in general, with Coach Chizik being the main point of information for issues football related (which is what I care most about).

I'm arguing about something I really don't even care that much about. (epiphany) Maybe that's why my wife says I'm stubborn!!

What would be silly is another round of internet rumors that get the fans all worked up...only to find out that it was a non-issue.

Why does the fan deserve to know....the very minute something happens. What is wrong with the team letting the situation mature and releasing the data instead of a blow by blow of each step along the way.

My father-in-law had a minor heart attack recently. The medical "report/diagnosis" changed daily for 2 weeks.

Can today's poorly raised, impetuous, selfish children be attributed to modelling their behaviour after some today's sports fan?

Can anyone confirm the report of Saban speaking at a coaching clinic in West Texas. Supposedly he made the statement, "We should've beaten Utah by 2 touchdowns".
Apparently, Utah's ex OC was in attendance and offered his rebuttal the next day when he spoke, "Yeah, but you didn't.It's kind of hard to win by two tds when you're down 21 points in the first half."

4:27 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Utah should have one by 6 TDs. They just took their foot off the accelerator.

4:29 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Hoopie ...

An easy fix to this, get HIPAA releases on injuries (not non-football medical conditions).

You're a man that doesn't like speculation. A short, straight, truthful answer takes care of it. Get the releases and eliminate the specualation.

The cryptic answers leads to speculation, lots of it.

Holy Cow....I thought all the naysayer fans hated the way TUBS talked. Seems I was wrong...it's just a hate of coachspeak?

If that's the case...then save it. It ain't gonna change and those complaints are stale.

Richt does the same coachspeak at UGA and those fans don't complain. Why the difference?

It is certainly within Chizik's right to not tell anyone anything. It is within is rights to squawk like a chicken at the next press conference. The question for me would be why is he not being straightforward with Savage's injury? Possible answers: 1) He is not up on the details (doubtful) 2) They are waiting for an MRI or something like that (quite possible) 3) Savage has asked him not to release the info (why would he do that?) 4) He just has a secrecy habit that is hard to break.

I am OK with the first three. I just hope that Chiz isn't that much of a control freak that there is a guy on his team who is out for the year, and they know that for sure, and the guy is OK with that info being released, but Chiz wants to wait until two a days or something before he lets everyone know. This isn't hiding Joe Cope's knee injury midseason; we are in June. No competitive advantage can be gained by hiding injury info.

4:35 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jet....you're right about his answer being cryptic. It ws an obvious attempt to respect the reporter and at least say something. Based on your argument typical Saban GTH look would have been much better. Of course someone else would complain about that.

Michael..If you're OK with the first 3 reasons and not the fourth and are now agitated (based on your previous posts), then I can only conclude that you feel it is fourth reason.

It is not fair to convict this coach when he hasn't done anything cause suspicion that he is a control freak.

Again...why is it that UGA fans aren't concerned with coachspeak and so many AU fans are?

4:40 PM
Blogger michael said...

At what point did I appear agitated? I just asked an honest question (why, if we are to believe the people who know guys who know things, would Chiz not tell us?). Wasn't a dig at Chiz, because I admit I don't know what is going on. It's like when my kids are being real quiet, and I yell back at them, "What are yall up to!?" because I figure they are getting into something, but sometimes they are just like, "we were just coloring our coloring books," so I just say, "Oh, OK."

You are confusing me with some other more agitated people.

Fans are funny. We had fans criticizing the receivers for being too slow, so they recruited some speed burners that are short, so fans then complained about the receivers being too small. The truth is that you actually need a mix, but such is the world of fans.
