I love creative marching bands

Hey everyone. This is not Auburn-related.

Underrated part of my job: Hearing the marching bands every week. I think Auburn has a swell band. They don't play anything real crazy, but they handle their business.

Here is USC's band making me happy by playing Avenged Sevenfold's "Almost Easy." Brilliant.

LSU has the best band in the SEC, IMO...

Followed closely by UGA.

Alabama's band has gone down since Katrhryn Scott Calhoun Scott Mann Scott retired.

Auburn's seems to have improved since I was in school.

Auburn's band has more depth than Auburn's football team.

Band quality? I definitely don't have a strong opinion on that one.

Salsa, I don't know if you are aware, but bands don't usually have a lot of backups.

2:18 PM
Blogger michael said...

True, but there is a hierarchy. I think it is pretty clear that our 3rd chair trumpet is better than most schools' 2nd chair. Thus, depth.

Steve, I am sure you are not aware of just how bad a shape Auburn's football team is in.

But you'll be aware of that soon enough.

La. Tech is coming and they won't be the last team to lay the smack on Auburn in 2009.

36-0 was just the start.

On another note, FSJ is right - Bama's band is *yawn* boring at times.

2:39 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Salsa, I am very aware of both the shape of Auburn's football team and the childish Bambis that like to make stupid comments.

2:42 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

And Bama is the team that tends to lose to small schools in Louisiana.

Thanks for resorting to name calling, Steve.

I was just stating my opinion.

No need to go gutter with it.

Anyways, I'm ready for football. Watching these replays on the ESPN family of networks just isn't getting it done.

Come to think of it, Bama had a two game losing streak to La. Tech. You must be confusing Bama with Auburn. It is understandable. Bambis aren't that smart.

Just read an article form Southern Pigskins on the top 5 o lines in the SEC.

AU was not in it...

We may be thin but dang the ones we got are good!! 2-3 year starters for the most part.. thay had alabama as 5 Miss as 4 and ark as a watch out for....

3:03 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

DL, that is probably because our offensive line stunk it up last season. When your offensive line stinks it up, having the starters returning isn't necessarily a good thing.

In our case, we are likely underrated because the guy didn't likely figure in the effects of the CTF Ethiopian diet plan on the linemen.

Salsa Shark @1:50 - that was LOL funny. Nice one.

I am always in my seat when the AU Band enters Jordan-Hare. Nothing gets me fired up more for the game than seeing the band stretch halfway around then field, the drums keeping everyone in step, and the alternating WAR EAGLE and GLORY GLORY TO OL' AUBURN.

Gosh, I am ready for some football. T-minus 41 days.

3:11 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I should say "at" my seat. Of course, there's no way I could be sitting when the band enters the stadium.

3:13 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I have a real good feeling about Tate and the offensive line. I expect Eric Smith to contribute more than most think too. We could end up seeing a lot of triple option this season, similar to Paul Johnson's offense at GT. It is why I think Kodi is still in the QB race. We have very good potential on the line, some speedy h-backs, and a couple of powerful tailbacks.

PMarsh has an interesting take on how the SEC has taken over college football. It is interesting to think about. For a while everyone was putting USC as #1 in preseason polls. Since the SEC has basically dominated the BCSNCG every time we have had a team in it, I think the media opinion has changed.

DL, the new uni's would make sense as UT tries to usher in a new era. I wish we would mix it up sometimes. It gets the players all kinds of fired up. But not too often, then we'd look desperate and gimmicky like CMR and the Puppydawgs.

3:35 PM

We should never, ever...and I mean ever change our uniforms.

Did I say never?

3:37 PM
Blogger boknowsbo said...

Steve, you are right about UGA getting waxed in black. That's my point about not allowing it to become a regular occurrence. The first time they "blacked out", they beat us by several TD's.

3:38 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

A lot of people don't remember in that first blackout game we lead 20-17 midway through the 3rd quarter and held Moreno to almost nothing...so I give no credit to the black jerseys for that win because we were matching them step for step.

It was only after Brandon Cox started turning the ball over and UGA exposed the DB's for never looking back to the ball that it ended up 45-20.

That had nothing at all to do with the black jerseys.

3:43 PM
Blogger boknowsbo said...

fair enough, RK, good point. Didn't Brandon throw 6 INT's in his last two games against the puppydawgs? Not sure if that's as amazing as John Vaughn missing 5 field goals in one game against the LSWho.

As for uniform changes, I think I've made myself perfectly clear that I will burn down something more significantly larger than "The Barn" if the uniform is altered, or an alternate version is produced.

Very awesome if you haven't seen this. Come up to section 15 and watch it with us!

New agent is Russ Campbell.

It's significant because he's losing business all over the place. Sexton's business, ARM, has been owned by Morgan Keegan -- the brokerage arm of Regions Bank.

Unfortunately, Morgan Keegan is under investigation by the SEC (and I'm not talking about Mike Slive's outfit) and several state securities regulators.

Several of Sexton's clients may have lost their shirts in Morgan Keegan investments.

Sexton's multiple clients provide knowledge that creates power for him. Tubs needed Sexton to keep the PTB at bay. It is an amiable move of good faith for CGC to get away from Sexton. Of course if the PTB still have enough power and, as usual, get impatient before the majority of the fans, CGC may regret the agent change. Hopefully that regret never happens.

Just this past February he signed up for another year with the Jets; it will be his 16th NFL season. Mr. Richardson is a 2-time All-Pro and 4-time Pro Bowl participant. The 2005 Iron Bowl was a thing of beauty.

However I do mark the point midway into the 2nd quarter when up 21-0 in Alabama territory that Prechae Rodriguez fumbles on a reverse that killed all of our momentum for the game, otherwise it could have been a very very ugly score.

Seriously Auburn's offense hasn't been the same since that fumble. We didn't show up in the bowl game vs Wisconsin and continued to slip despite good records the next two years.

It's all Prechae's fault.

8:14 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

2005...

You all forget that Alabama won the last 3 quarters of that game, just like Brodie said.

As for the slide of the Auburn offense, I've never seen one to be impressed with. That "great" 2004 squad barely mustered anything against a probation laden/badly coached Alabama team in the rain.

8:19 AM

Last time I checked they take into account all 4 quarters of a game. Winning 3 gets you nothing if you get blown out in 1.

Salsa, say what you want about the 2004 Auburn team, but that was the last team from the SEC to run the table.

As far as 2005 goes, we obviously were not watching the same game. But then again using your logic, Bammer probably won the last 3 quarters against Utah too.

Got 12? Didn't think so...

I freakin' hate you bama.

8:30 AM

That's true. We were the halftime champions last year.

Bammer also lost the second half against UGA last year and lost the first half against Tulane.

Does he not see how ridiculous his posts are?

2004 Auburn team ran the table and it was empty on the other end.

Nothing to show for it.

Sorry. I find that a bit hollow.

8:39 AM
Blogger Jet said...

It was a Preachae/Tuberville combo ... Tommy shut it down after Preache fumbled. I was sitting by myself -- we had 3 tickets (2 in the east deck, one in the west) -- begging our guys to run it up and leave no doubt.

Interesting quote from Chris Todd on PMarsh's site this a.m.

To summarize, he understands he needs to make a big impression in a hurry, or be prepared to be affixed to the bench.

8:42 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

I bet if you took your knuckles and knocked on the side of your head you'd find it hollow.

By the way, we have a nice, shiny Sugar Bowl trophy to show for it. You've got even less after your 12-0 regular season.

8:44 AM
Blogger wtc said...

So what was last year for your team Salsa? 12-0 and then fold like a lawn chair. Is there a word to describe that. Less than nothing to show for it.

8:45 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey, the end of last year was very disappointing. However, unlike Auburn in 2004, all of the real talent on the team either came back this year (with good experience) or came in as a part of another monster recruiting class.

8:46 AM
Blogger wtc said...

Last year seems to be a coaching problem more than anything else for UAT. Or is a fan problem. not sure who t oblame for the last two losses.

However, you beat FL for 3 1/2 quarters, so that counts for something. And you beat Utah for 2quarters. How about we give you two moral vistories. UAT won a lot of those in Shula's years.

8:47 AM
Blogger patdyeswildturkey said...

Oh salsa,

Bama math and logic, too early for that this morning,

In that case, early morning Bama joke,

How many Bama fans does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Answer: Two

One to screw it in and one to say how much better Bear would have done it.

:),

Anyway slow news week, DL from Greenville is supposed to annouce today. His teammate we signed last year, Pilson, who is going the juco route. So we will see what happens.

8:47 AM
Blogger wtc said...

Or got sent packing by ht ecoach to make room for more players that will not play.

8:47 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Losing to Florida was one thing. Great team, great players on both sides of the ball. I can live with that.

The Sugar Bowl I blame on a lack of seasoned leaders on the team. Shula's guys were just too disappointed to not be in the BCSCG that they cared little about playing Utah in the Sugar Bowl. That bugs me to no end, but I firmly believe those people are gone now and it won't happen again. Saban won't allow it.

8:48 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Blame it on whomever you want, you got schooled. Auburn in 2004 had bigger reason to not want to play, we showed up and won.

Saban can only do one during a game and that's talk to people. If the Jimmys and Joes from the other team score more points than the Jimmy and Joes on yours, you lose. Whether or not Saban "allows that" is irrelevant.

8:51 AM
Blogger wtc said...

You sound like the intern writer for BOL and Scout that comes on Longshore and McKnight show. all UAT all the time and no one should really suit up because you are gonna win just because who you are. Well good luck with that logic.

8:58 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Salsa- You spew crap all over the place. I'm glad Andre Smith sucked last year and you've got somebody better than him since you did so well without him last year.

As far as your Sugar Bowl Loss, that's all Saban's fault. Deal with it or listen to Saban and fall on the sword like he told you to. Good grief. Go back to tidesports.com where you are hated by your brethern instead of just us Aubies.

9:01 AM

No, still got to play them on the field. However, Alabama and Saban are a juggernaut and own the West. No denying that.

Conference championships and national championships THIS DECADE for UAT?

Anyone? Anyone?

9:04 AM
Blogger patdyeswildturkey said...

Juggernaut? they have one the west one out of two years. Florida is the definition of a juggernaut. Two National titles in three years. Bama is good, but only a contender at this point. Go back to the dictionary.

9:05 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

What will happen if Satan doesn't win the West this year? Other than it being the fans fault? I will be surprised if bama wins the West this year, I just don't see it.

9:08 AM
Blogger Jet said...

Hopefully this is in terms the Cousin Humpers can understand ...

What they did last year doesn't equal ownership.

It equals something more like last month's lot rent for the doublewide.

9:08 AM
Blogger patdyeswildturkey said...

East - The favorite is Florida, you wonder can they win it all again? The Heisman, the East, the SEC and the national championship. Its a HUGE burden. But they have the talent. If they make to the SEC championship I think they jave the best shot. But in the SEC you never really know. Highly predicted teams usually take a beating.

West- I think it will be the wild west this year with the teams beating up on each other. I have no clue. All of the teams have some semblance of talent so we will see.

9:12 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

You have to have consecutive years of bringing home hardware to be a considered a juggernaut or at least in a cluster, much like UF or LSU. You have not yet established yourselves as number one in the West. Try again.

0 Sec Titles, 0 NCs, 0 BCS Bowl wins this decade. No denying that.

Undercover asks the question of which QB will be the starter. The conclusion seems to be that Kodi and Caudle are tied, but they better look out for Todd. They don't give Rollison and Moseley much of a shot. To sum it up, they don't know.

9:42 AM
Blogger Monica said...

I'm pretty sure that if it's Todd I'll have to saw on my wrist with a butter knife.

Jet, you're right about Friday. Who knows why but if Thurs. holds up, we'll be alright.

Omnica, happy sawing.

9:47 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

It also happens to mention that Todd had one of the strongest throwing arms in the nation coming out of highschool and that he is saying it is nearly fully healed. Todzilla is coming. Fear Todzilla.

9:48 AM
Blogger Jet said...

I don't think any of QBs elicit fear at this point.

Except Rollison. Right, Eddie?

9:51 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

I disagree. I am scared of every QB we have returning. The only thing scarier than that is the freshmen starting.

9:53 AM
Blogger BigEZ said...

Hey Salsa, I wouldn't normally bite, but I believe Auburn did win the SEC title in 04. They beat Tennessee, and then they beat VaTech or did I dream this? It may not be a national championship but I will forever love and be proud of that team and theres nothing you can do about it. You're wrong. We do have something to show for it. That's all.

9:53 AM
Blogger Monica said...

Wow The Big EZ here in the morning again! What a nice treat.

9:55 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Monica,

I feel the same way about the sawing, but that's if Burns is the QB.

I just don't see him ever developing into a decent QB.

9:57 AM
Blogger Monica said...

WERK, Who would allow you to put away the butter knife?

9:57 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I'm not allowed around sharp instruments, it's part of my rehab program after the horrible machette accident of 2008.

10:00 AM
Blogger Monica said...

ha I'm not letting you off that easily! Who is your pick for QB? C'mon. You know I respect your football opinion. Don't let me down.

10:02 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

The real question mark for me at QB is Caudle. I just haven't seen enough of him to know how good he could be. From the playing time he has received, I assume Borges and Franklin weren't high on him.

Burns has just not worked out. Once he became the starter last season, our season was pretty much over.

As for Todd, he showed good decision making and I am amazed he was able to do as much as he did while injured. My fear with him is that he will start off great, but the arm injuries will return.

As for the freshman, if we start a freshman from the beginning, I would count this as a rebuilding year.

10:02 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I don't think we have an answer at QB, but I feel least comfortable with Kodi since I've seen him play enough to know that I don't see it happening.

Gus won't be patient enough to deal with his ever changing mechanics and his not looking beyond the 1st option before he runs.

Unless Kodi has made a lot of changes and progress, I just don't think he's an SEC level QB.

10:03 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Omnica, you think Kodi should be the starter?

10:03 AM
Blogger Monica said...

Steve - You don't already count this as a rebuilding year????????

10:03 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Mon,

Sadly out of the group we have, until I can see Tyrik play, I'll have to go with a healthy Chris Todd.

From what I've seen of Caudle, he is prone to throwing the ball to the other team as much as he is our own.

10:04 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Todd if he has the arm, Caudle otherwise. If it's Burns I'm going to need to start each game 3 beers in.

10:07 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

I know you didn't ask, Monica, but I decided to throw my .02 in there, I knew you wouldn't mind.

10:07 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

WERK, I wish I had seen more of Caudle. He is the most likely to be a surprise in my option. Todd, to me, is the most likely to become a solid SEC QB, but I don't see him as becoming great. Caudle, supposedly, has a lot of running ability too, although with his knee surgeries, it is hard to know how long that would last.

10:08 AM
Blogger Monica said...

I suffer from The Grass is Always Green on the Other Side Syndrome. I'm the fan the writer was talking about when he said "The favorite player is always the back up."

All of that means I didn't see anything or anyone last year that inspired confidence, so I'm fantasizing that there is some hidden talent that has yet to hit the field.

10:08 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

I do wish that Kodi could be the guy because I can see him giving opponents fits running the triple option, but unless we have a QB that is able to offer some kind of threat as a passer, we will have trouble.

10:09 AM
Blogger BigEZ said...

Hey, mornin there MonD. Usually when I am up early, I'm going to work. There's just so much more to talk about with the season so close. I am looking forward to my first football season with the HABOTN!!

10:10 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Between all of them, I'm not yet sure if we have an average SEC QB. Hopefully a couple of them have made big strides with the new coaching staff, because the previous staff did a horrible job of developing them.

10:11 AM
Blogger BigEZ said...

You guys may think I'm crazy, but I put so much blame on the old coaching staff. For once we have a real offensive coaching staff. Proven o coaching staff. I'm not saying that itll work but every qback that we have can't be that bad. It can't be. We just need some production, just like Wilson last year for Bama. I believe that Gus can accentuate our strengths and hide the weaknesses. That's what good teams do.

10:14 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

I agree with you BEZ. It'll be interesting to see if Malzahn can work that same magic on our supposedly more talented QBs than the journeyman type guys he had at Tulsa.

10:20 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

By the way...does anyone notice that intoxicating scent?

10:20 AM

Alabama was able to hide the issues with JPW by having one of the best, if not the best, running game I have seen in the SEC this decade. Yes, I remember 2004, and no, I don't think Coffee is better than Caddy or Ronnie, but their offense ran the ball about 2/3 of the time. It was very impressive. Nobody else in the SEC has come close to running the ball that much, at least not last season.
