Other observations

Here's a list of some stuff that didn't fit elsewhere:
  • Auburn-Ball State television information:
    • Live:
      FOX Sports Midwest
      FOX Sports South
      FOX Sports Southwest
      FOX Sports Houston

    • On delay:
      FOX Sports Arizona (9/28 @ 6:30 p.m. PT)
      FOX Sports West (9/26 @ 11:15 p.m. PT)

  • NEW DE Hot Carter said tonight that he expects to play this weekend against Ball State.

  • NEW DT Mike Blanc said he played sparingly against Louisiana Tech because he was being disciplined for tardiness. That was the night Nick Fairley started.

  • Gene Chizik has gone out of his way to make Auburn hospitable to NFL scouts. I see them much more often these days. Moments ago, I saw a gaggle of scouts rolling through the lobby. They represented the Raiders, Chargers, Chiefs and Bills.

  • Remember how Trooper Taylor always said Tim Hawthorne can't make the club in the tub? He apparently told No. 13 the same thing to his face. ``(I) probably thought about
tatting it on my forearm just to remind me."

  • Hawthorne described Anthony Gulley as "the countriest guy I know."

  • Ben Tate on why Auburn has outscored opponents 66-19 in the second half: ``I think it has to do with the pace of our offense. The defense has to start wearing down in the second half. That's when you start piling on the rushing yards, passing yards, whatever. The blocking gets a little easier for the offensive linemen, and that's when things start to happen."

About a month ago I refused to drink the Auburn Kool-Aid. The left side of my brain couldn't make the idea of a successful season work logically and the right side of my brain quite working a long time ago...

So for weeks now I've been sitting here staring at the pitcher of Kool-Aid in front of me... refusing to take a drink, pushing it farther and farther away...

Saturday night I drink the whole damn thing.

Apparently I owe Mr. Todd an apology and a very big one at that. Maybe now that my move is complete I'll have the chance to see him around town and do it in person.

Crow taste pretty bad, but the Kool-Aid is making it go down a lot easier...

2:56 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

A thought - Our offensive strategy has a LOT to do with tempo. For opposing teams to prepare for us, they will have to practice against this tempo. So either their practice teams can emulate that speed and possibly wear them out before the game OR they can't get to that speed and not be able to keep up later in the game because of that speed.

AU offense was a little slow this past weekend, and didn't run as many plays, but if you recall, the defense returned an interception for a TD, which kept the O off the field and put WVU back on the field. AU also had a few too many 3-outs while WVU converted 66% of 3rd down tries.

Ol' Miss will score. How much they score depends on the schizo SC defense. Ol Miss should look at the UGA offensive game plan for clues.

From the link:
West Virginia has always been a rowdy school, but this week, our couches should be safe," Wilson said.

Wilson said the problem was blown out of proportion by the media. Many of the students burning couches aren't even from Morgantown.
"But that's the image we have now," he said.

"I think we're moving forward on this problem, but it's something that takes time,"

I posted this on another forum. I didn't spend too much time on stat sheets but after a cursory glance these are the numbers I came up with:

Noel Devine:

First quarter. 90 yards on 4 carries. .. 22.5 yards / carry.
quarter 2, 3 and 4: 38 yards on 11 carries. 3.5 yards / carry.

Jarrett Brown:

First quarter: 41 yards on 5 carries .. 8 yards / carry.

quarter 2, 3, 4: 25 yards on 14 carries .. 1.8 yards / carry.

One hell of defensive adjustment after 1st quarter I'd say.

Any chance for an apology? Of course not. PF would justify that he just "lead the discussion", while ignoring the fact that he controls who talks and how much they get prompted or get to say. Late in the day yesterday, PF mis-quoted the Gump atty to say that Troop "should be fired" instead of "should be fired IF he said it".

When will Radio Free Jay G. premiere?

Radio hates me now.

Only one radio station has interest in me: Jackson, Miss.

So it goes.

Bags's show not going to use you this year?

I thought you were very good on their show.

Only one? ONLY ONE? How are you gonna trivialize the best show this side of Dan Lebotard by saying ONLY ONE? No other show is good enough. J Kev do it right.

You are always welcome on the Auburn Football Insider Podcast, Jay G.

EBro...An all SEC radio show would be awesome. The challenge would be to get it started without digressing into local rivalry squabbles. ESPN radio could probably pull it off with a southern only syndicated broadcast featuring JGT as host and Tony Barnhart as the color guy/minor antagonist. Call-ins would require screening for substance.

finebomb is a ninny. After trying to start something that did not have legs he will hide behind his mike which he can do easily and not talk about this subject.
Egg on face that does not show on radio.

I do have to say that fancy footwork from the little white guy in navy and maroon striped jersey before he passed it to the little black guy for a tip in was pretty good. I didn't need 90 minuted to see it, though. SC top 10. I win.

JHAG...It's about time we got some defensive help. So which one do you think will get in the game first?

Digger..PF's minions eat it up. said minions don't possess coherent, cohesive thought processes. He punks 'em regularly and they come back for more.

So why does Hoopie listen? Hoopie normally swings by once a week or when a ready-made PF issue is brewing.

I don't really wanna do WMSP anymore. Kinda down on some of those guys.

I wasn't complaining about the lack of radio exposure. I prefer to get paid for working.

7:26 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

I prefer to get paid for not working, but getting paid to work is a close second....

you gotta look at being on the radio and TV as personal branding. Just count what you think you should get paid to appear, write it down, and consider that extra income. Now subtract out that same amount as marketing expense. You just took home the same amount but increased your marketing budget by a ton. When you are hosting PTI or EPL Today, you'll look back and consider it money(time) well spent.

Mytommy- In reference to how i'm handling Tyrik not playing this fall....FANTASTIC, because I thought that if he didn't play then we would be better than anticipated, too which I believe we are. Chris Todd is winning games. I wasn't convinced Auburn could win games and be productive. So it goes. The Rollison Train is parked back at the station and ready to pickup steam again in the spring. I don't buy that Caudle will be ahead of Rollison after the Spring. I would be shocked. Jay G did a great job of predicting Chris Todd along with some guy who coined Toddzilla, I just didn't think his arm was 100% still.

7:40 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

That's brilliant, Frankenbummer.

JGT..I listened to some of the Roundtable today and of course they were discussing the "word". Maybe it because the subject was something that Bags always desires to discuss, the show stayed on point. I generally agreed with Bags today and he can handle that subject well, although Doug is better. I don't agree with Bags propensity on normal days to hijack the conversation to one of the few topics that he can handle.

Blogger digger4au said...

I was riding in the caboose of the Rollison Express but got off when Todd was named NO. 1 I wasn't too sure about his arm but it seems to be doing great.

Okay 2 hours wasn't enough sleep. How I just drove 2 hours to get home and am still capable of halfway coherant thought is beyond me. I gotta be back out the door in 7 hours. Hottie out....oh,and thanks.

Hoopie I know the game PF plays and only the stupidity of his followers keep him on the air. They don't realize, I guess, that he dogs them about 35% of the time.
They just follow along barking.

JGT...Tony Barnhart has sortof done what Big Snacks is suggesting and has increased his exposure. If you were allowed to expand your CFB coverage....for...whomever, you could have insight and presentation abilities > TB.

digger, if you look at it like that his poll actually makes some sense. I like that approach to it, as long as he has no problem dropping teams who won, which some pollsters do. For instance, even if Boise continues to win they would drop if teams like LSU and Auburn continued to win, as both of those teams play a higher quality of opponents from here on out.

8:20 PM
Blogger JD said...

OMG has anyone looked at the computer polls. It is a shame that these things carry as much weight in the BCS as they do. Jeff Sagrin's poll has Iowa ranked #7 in the country. Pathetic!

crap digger...look at number 1.....

Based on who they have played thus far I am not sure who I would rank number 1. Probaly Miami or Alabama. However, I do not think that either one of those teams will be there in the end.
