Thoughts on the depth chart

Hey everyone. I said earlier that there were items to discuss regarding the depth chart. Let's do it.
  1. Hot Carter not in the picture: I thought he seemed healthy last time I saw him on a practice field, so I'm not sure what to make of this. Chizik was asked about Carter and I found his answer intriguing:
Again, I don’t go into the injury situation, but right now, we don’t anticipate him playing on Saturday.”
Notice that he doesn't say it's an injury situation. Those are two separate statements.

  2. Dee Ford as a backup: It's a misnomer. Sure, Ford technically is Antonio Coleman's backup. When Coleman comes off the field, though, don't look for Ford unless it's third-and-long. I think Zach Clayton and/or Nick Fairley will play that spot before Ford's name is discussed.

  3. DeAngelo Benton as a backup: Not exactly. The depth chart presented below is based on a two-receiver set. That won't happen very often. When Auburn uses three wides, Benton will be in the game.

  4. The second-tier linebackers: Ouch. I don't think Jonathan Evans is healthy. Harris Gaston is another freshman who missed time with an injury. Adam Herring practiced last week for the first time since November. I can't imagine Ted Roof feeling good about the situation here.

  5. Eltoro Freeman: Is he ready to play at an acceptable level? We're supposed to talk with him tonight. I'll report back.

UNRELATED NOTE: I saw Eric Smith in front of the Athletic Complex this afternoon. He seemed in good spirits. Same for Aubrey Phillips.

About the South Florida discussion on the previous thread... we put those guys on the college football map.

They got so much credibility by beating us it was amazing. I think they even got up to # 2 before coming crashing down to earth.

It was a lot like Vandy last year. They beat us, but it was obvious they weren't a good team, but since people thought we were a good team at the time it built them up.

rk - Auburn is kind of like that popular girl in high school, and when someone dated her you were like, "Wow, I can't believe that guy is dating her! Mad respect for him!" But then it turns out 15 years later that the girl is single and leather skinned from cigarettes and living in a hell hole with 4 kids. All of a sudden you aren't so impressed with those guys dating her in high school.

I'm more excited about the Beatles finally getting their albums remastered, although I do feel like a dunce to say that excites me even though I never noticed my CDs were poor quality to begin with. I hate it when the internet tells me I didn't like the stuff I have been listening to because it is crap. I feel so deceived.

2 others are walk-ons.

2 others are players playing vastly different positions from last year.

Invisible players: Q. Carr, A. "H" Carter, M. Billings, E. Smith, P. Pierre-Louis.

Granted, there are reasons why some aren't visible, but I wonder where they fit in anyway. Note that three are in Trooper's care.

I sure hope you're right SFC. But last year at this time a lot of folks, probably me, were thinking we'd have 7 TD in the first SEC game.

I have not seen the questionable comments this season, like we saw last season. My big concern this year is there are too many positive comments.

ok the average of all the picks so far is AU 32.7778 - La Tech 16.2222. Sound reasonable?

this week Harris Teeter had some ridiculous ice cream special on Breyer's. I think it was buy 2 get 3 free.

Sounds good to me, I'll take it.

I prefer the coaches to talk up the opponents and have our players thinking they will be lucky to beat whoever we play. This season the players are convinced we will be good.

My best friend from Cincinnati shipped me 6 pints of Graeter's ice cream in dry ice for my birthday. Life is soooooo good!

I am convinced we could be good if we stay healthy.

I think that THT and some of you other guys need to start going to ICA, ice cream anonymous.

8:57 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

no way, that's too expensive. MrsTHT isn't going to waste money for someone else to peel the shrimp.
