Thoughts on the depth chart
Hey everyone. I said earlier that there were items to discuss regarding the depth chart. Let's do it.
UNRELATED NOTE: I saw Eric Smith in front of the Athletic Complex this afternoon. He seemed in good spirits. Same for Aubrey Phillips.
- Hot Carter not in the picture: I thought he seemed healthy last time I saw him on a practice field, so I'm not sure what to make of this. Chizik was asked about Carter and I found his answer intriguing:
Again, I don’t go into the injury situation, but right now, we don’t anticipate him playing on Saturday.”
Notice that he doesn't say it's an injury situation. Those are two separate statements. - Dee Ford as a backup: It's a misnomer. Sure, Ford technically is Antonio Coleman's backup. When Coleman comes off the field, though, don't look for Ford unless it's third-and-long. I think Zach Clayton and/or Nick Fairley will play that spot before Ford's name is discussed.
- DeAngelo Benton as a backup: Not exactly. The depth chart presented below is based on a two-receiver set. That won't happen very often. When Auburn uses three wides, Benton will be in the game.
- The second-tier linebackers: Ouch. I don't think Jonathan Evans is healthy. Harris Gaston is another freshman who missed time with an injury. Adam Herring practiced last week for the first time since November. I can't imagine Ted Roof feeling good about the situation here.
- Eltoro Freeman: Is he ready to play at an acceptable level? We're supposed to talk with him tonight. I'll report back.
UNRELATED NOTE: I saw Eric Smith in front of the Athletic Complex this afternoon. He seemed in good spirits. Same for Aubrey Phillips.

Chizik was going to tell you the full story on Hot Carter, but the SEC told him it would be in violation of their new media laws.
w00t!
Jay G,
You getting Beatles Rock Band or Guitar Hero 5?
I stopped by Game Stop yesterday and put my money down on the Beatles pre-order.
p00t!
i'm gonna have to buy me one them programs with these guys numbers on it. I just hope I'm not too drunk to read it.
My thoughts are much like your thoughts, except that they are more like my thoughts.
About the South Florida discussion on the previous thread... we put those guys on the college football map.
They got so much credibility by beating us it was amazing. I think they even got up to # 2 before coming crashing down to earth.
It was a lot like Vandy last year. They beat us, but it was obvious they weren't a good team, but since people thought we were a good team at the time it built them up.
Zen Master in full effect.
We've always (recent memory) had quality and depth at LB. The current situation pains me.
Gmail is down.
This is BAD news.
I sure would like to see Smith back soon.
I'm still not sure Jorell Bostrom
is an actual living human being.
And then they found out we sucked, which built them back down.
Michael, you put some "stank" on my comment. Very nice.
I actually thought about GH5, but I've already pre-ordered Beatles Rock Band.
rk - Auburn is kind of like that popular girl in high school, and when someone dated her you were like, "Wow, I can't believe that guy is dating her! Mad respect for him!" But then it turns out 15 years later that the girl is single and leather skinned from cigarettes and living in a hell hole with 4 kids. All of a sudden you aren't so impressed with those guys dating her in high school.
Isnt Jorell Superman's real name?
shesaid - stank is the spice that tastes good on everything
So Michael are we the HS version of the girl or the 15 years later version?
I'm more excited about the Beatles finally getting their albums remastered, although I do feel like a dunce to say that excites me even though I never noticed my CDs were poor quality to begin with. I hate it when the internet tells me I didn't like the stuff I have been listening to because it is crap. I feel so deceived.
Michael- you should never watch porn then, you will feel awful about yourself
The 15 years happened within the season, bigcat. Time frames are parallel but different. Just watch "Lost", you'll figure it all out.
The original Beatles CD's sound fine, but I've heard a lot of the stuff off the new remastered discs and it does sound a lot better.
I think the stereo box set is my birthday present later this month.
I'm tired of us being that measuring stick that puts other programs on the map.
"Measuring stick" would be quite an apt term to describe why Harrison doesn't want me to watch porn.
The Beatle's sounded best when they played at my birthday party
Superman's real name is ...
El Freakin' Toro!
Let's do it. Let's hit somebody. Let's get 15 on the first defensive play to just let 'em know we're there!
I'm ready.
Harrison, I've been meaning to tell you: that wasn't the Beatles, it was a John Philip Sousa cover band. We tricked you to make you feel important. Sorry.
Jorrel is Superman's daddy, actually. Not sure what that means though.
now i feel less important
Yeah, sorry about that, Harrison. It's just that I was watching this movie called Minority Report on TNT a couple of weeks ago, and it taught me that the truth matters and the end doesn't justify the means, and I just couldn't let you go through life feeling like you were important when in fact you are the opposite. You are imimportant.
Hey Jay - I can still check my gmail through my igoogle page, but not the normal gmail page. So you can try that if you have it set up.
I always knew one day I would find the truth on the interwebs.
will Chizik be doing a Thursday afternoon radio show??
Do I know what iGoogle is?
Jorell = Superman's daddy
Tim Tebow = Superman
Jorell = Tim Tebow's daddy
Yes Jay, you know exactly what igoogle is (does jedi hand wave)
igoogle is just a page google lets you make. I put cnn headlines, si and espn.com headlines, weather, Auburn football schedule, and gmail on mine and made it my home page. One stop shopping when I open my browser.
Michael - I have an iGoogle page and cannot check my gmail. I think you're just wrong.
Norm - I have an igoogle page and not only checked my email, I just SENT an email. I think I'm just awesome.
Poor Ted Ruf. Poor us.
My iGoogle page is prettier than yours.
Since you're a rocket scientist/goat farmer/Queen of Eurasia/et. al. I guess you have yours configured differently than I. All I get is a "Server Error" whenever I try to access gmail.
You are awesome though.
Is anyone else having trouble accessing their gmail account?
What's Google?
With the defense in the ice bath, lets hope this offense is for real. It sounds like we will need 45-48 points to carry the day.
mond - I am still stuck on the "classic" theme. Should I switch to a pink flower theme or something? I am a simple man. I don't think I need a pretty theme. But I also thought I didn't need food anymore that one time, and that was the most miserable week of my life.
I just read in the B'ham News that not only did Derek Dooley's parents go to Auburn (Vince, of course, and Barbara), but so did his wife's parents. It would be funny if they all gave him a big "War Eagle" before or after the game.
Norm - you should have checked the "Yes I am a rocket scientist" box when creating your igoogle page. They treat you much better.
Wow we are so damn close this is amazing!
Jay, any chance of getting this guy a drug test?
Dang. I just skipped right over that because I didn't want them to know about my business.
LOL...guess I should actually read the comments a bit before asking a question...excuse me.
You are excused, Kristina. But I didn't even hear you fart.
Michael - I don't think it's appropriate for the master of all thighs to settle for a classic theme. That's just me.
Scott Choc - Not only did her parents go to Auburn, her dad was an Auburn cheerleader.
LOL Kristina I thought you HAD read the other comments and you were being sarcastic.
Impressively quick, Mon. Where did his wife go to school? I know he went to UVA.
Impressively quick is the category just below FAH.
And where is derek winters in the depth chart?
Some walk-ons have made more noise than scholarship players.
I've been away. Norman Mailer if nobody's said it.
ehyou is on top of his game.
gmail being down is in the news
I didn't know we were supposed to be naming Norm's Norm's. I knew that one and it's in the file path of the jpg.
Choc Scott - She went to Auburn.
BTW, my gmail is up.
Gmail is back.
I missed it.
Filepath of the jpg! Curses!
In re Derek Winter ... let's put it this way, the Coast Guard has called off the search.
Yay! I can work again...wait a minute what am I saying??
Jet, Charlie Trotman is on Sportscall, if you are interested.
Thanks for the heads up, Depressed. Maybe I'll get to catch up on the ride home.
Rod Hood got cut from Cleveland Browns.
If choosing the name is any indication, I don't think Cleveland Browns can make good decisions.
i was at the vet when Gmail was down. i am back at my computer and it works.
coincidence?
The Bears signed Rodderick Hood today.
Eric Smith has filed harassment charges against that pansy who filed assault charges against him after getting his posterior whupped.
Smith had a bloodied nose, i,e the pansy started the fight.
Hey Mon,
Earlier I was talking about Derek Dooley's wife. I think she went to UVA like he did. It's just his and her parents that went to AU.
Jay,
I know we discussed Jared Cooper in the past couple of weeks. Are you surprised to see him as the back-up at the Tackle position?
Walter McFadden is making some interesting comments. He says Darren Bates most resembles some dude named Junior Rosegreen. He is apparently a hitter.
McFadden also said there is not reason we should lose to anyone on our schedule.
Jay, please add McFadden to the drug test list.
I didn't have problems with gmail today.
depressed: Yes, I am surprised to see Jared Cooper at tackle. I didn't know he was big enough.
McFadden was being rhetorical in my opinion. He wasn't guaranteeing a 12-0 season ... though apparently some people see it that way. He was saying that he goes into the season expecting to win every game.
I go into every Call of Duty game expecting to win. I only win 60% of them. So it goes.
It's amazing, but people do take one comment out of context and run with it these days.
Like that John Lennon saying The Beatles were bigger than Jesus.
Hudson is starting tonight.
Am I wrong to model my life after Seinfeld?
Huddy: Auburn Man.
Apparently Erin Andrews is going to appear on Oprah on September 11th. Talking about the nude video on Oprah should really help people forget that video.
It is kind of like Richard Hatches lawyer going on the today show and complaining about people referring to his client as the "Uni-Bubba". Somehow I don't think that helped the situation. It was the first time I had heard the term, and it was hilarious.
well rats, got home a bit too late for Beasley, so...
forget it. I misspelled it so many times, then had to log in, I'm sure it's no longer relevant. I should probably just say ROLAND by now.
well darn, I guess I had SCHMALZ after all.
Mr. Tate, I agree with you. Gmail down is BAD.
Your live bloggin' for my noggin' of The Chiz was an absolute delight, even though I didn't get to keep up with it live.
http://www.fox16.com/news/local/story/Michael-Dyer-tells-FOX16-Auburn-is-his-first/7mxUkv55YEWRCALD3cWogw.cspx
I like coach Chizik's attire. Nice shirt, however that wristwatch is too loose. In formals the dude looks sharp.
He needs some suggestions on that 3/4 sleeve shirt thing he wears to practices. That needs to go.
Does anyone read that report on Dyer and think he has committed to AU?
The 5’9”, 220lb running back had narrowed his choices to the Auburn, Arkansas and Tennessee, but says his relationship with Gus Malzahn helped put the SEC school over the top.
Commitments however are non-binding till letter of intent signing day in February.
Never mind:
Dyer’s shortlist includes Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Arkansas. The Rebels jumped into the picture last week when Dyer attended a practice. He planned to announce his decision before the season but in light of the visit has decided to take more time.
Aero - good point about the watch. Is that his practice shirt peeking out beneath his shirt sleeve?
I wish the NAZZI organization would make ita death penalty if a school accepted a commitment prior to 6 months before signing day of Feb.
"narrowed his choices to the Auburn, Arkansas and Tennessee, but says his relationship with Gus Malzahn helped put the SEC school over the top."
Oh yeah, that lone SEC school in that list.
:-)
Jay G,
If you get Guitar Hero 5, you apparently will also get Guitar Hero Van Halen as part of the deal when it comes out.
Andre Smith's NFL career gets off to a stellar start ... he breaks his foot.
Good thing he held out then huh?
Apparently this weekend is an All Auburn/All Orange weekend.
Is Andre Smith the Kellen Winslow Jr of this draft?
WERK -
my attire for this weekend.
The all orange thing apparently wasn't a Tuberville thing. Personally, I am not crazy about it. I prefer a sea of blue.
As it turns out, I'll be wearing a new orange shirt for the game.
Whether you wear blue, orange or white, I don't care.
Of course, if you are beyond your teen-aged years, wearing a jersey is not cool (with the possible exception for women wearing the jerseys of their sons who are on the team ... possibly.)
It never was a Tub thing. It was a university marketing thing.
I don't have a problem with a lady wearing a jersey at any age.
Bunch of sea of blue lemmings on here.
Now, as for the team, I do have well established strong feelings ....
Anyone here get CSS have any details on the Auburn Football Everyday show?
Since I have the dish, I don't guess I'll have access to the show.
Note to self: Following THT's links has apparently become just as dangerous as following Michael's.
On the whole Orange v. Blue debate, I come down firmly on the Blue side. Except I prefer the Blue to be splattered with the blood of our enemies.
WERK - it comes on Friday 4p Eastern.
J-Z - I didn't look at THT's link until you just forced me to do it. Dang, you're right.
Does it run weekly for the whole season?... and is anyone taping it so I can watch it?
Here here THT!!!
Way to go all Blue.
RK- You can get Auburn Football Everyday by subscribing to cstv thru auburntigers.com for 9.99 a month. I'm thinking about since I too have directv and CSS is not carried.
WERK - I am recording it via the DVR. I'm not willing to send that to you, but you're welcome to come over. Or, you could follow Eddies sage advice.
Of the 50 players on the depth chart ...
17 are first-year players (true freshman, redshirt freshman or juco transfer).
2 first-year players will start.
2 others are walk-ons.
2 others are players playing vastly different positions from last year.
Invisible players: Q. Carr, A. "H" Carter, M. Billings, E. Smith, P. Pierre-Louis.
Granted, there are reasons why some aren't visible, but I wonder where they fit in anyway. Note that three are in Trooper's care.
Trooper quit school because they had recess every day, and we all know that Trooper don't play.
I saw PPL a little while ago. He's apparently doing aiight.
Video production begins now.
ETA: 9 p.m. CDT.

My son has thrown down a challenge ladies -
Women who claim they "love to watch sports" must be treated as spies until they demonstrate knowledge of the game and the ability to pick a Buffalo wing clean.
This was in response to me telling him about my new ESPN coffee mug.
Are you ready for each aspect of the challenge?
i'm going out on a limb and saying that Cincy has the knowlege but may need some help on the wing.
What sports are we talking here, Cincy? I don't know much about curling and honestly do not consider it a sport, but before I head into a challenge I like to know what I am dealing with.
Funny y'all should be talking about DirecTv. I have spent the past 20 minutes or so contemplating (again) the switch from cable. But now y'all have me confused.
One of the things I hate about TWC is that it doesn't carry CSS, and likely never will. Why does CSS expect everyone to move to a tiny part of the country just to get that station?
And does SportSouth (the former Turner South, not the original SportSouth which is now Fox Sport South) have any useful Auburn/SEC programming?
Tomorrow is our "Tailgate" luncheon at work. Unfortunately I'm outnumbered in my group, but there's no bigger fan than I am. They all know I'll be sporting orange.
Cincy, I have a shirt with the same slogan you have on your mug. I know football. Not too fond of wings.
THT- I switched from comcast to Directv about 2 years ago. I have absolutely no regrets. You do lose CSS, but I can live with that, everything else, especially the HD is much better than comcast.
I think wings are messy and so much work for the amount of payoff. I can do it, but prefer not to.
I did remind him, however, that I can suck crawdad heads with the best of them! Top that, punk kid of mine.
i think wings are a diet food. There's just not enough substance there for the energy expended. If I ever decide to diet, maybe then I'll eat wings.
Thanks, Eddie
Great minds think alike, and at the same time, Cincy!
Almost like an order of crablegs. An awful lot of work, but that payoff is sweet.
Malzahn is apparently saying that it would be best if we can redshirt Rollison. If Todd goes down or doesn't perform, then things will change.
Oh, but the fried crab claws at BinOBA's place are sweet!
mmmmmm.... crab claws....
I hate work. I especially hate working when I sit down to eat. I love crab meat, but darned if I'm going to sit there and waste all that time getting it out of the leg. And thank goodness MrsTHT peels the shrimp for me.
OT, and let me preface by saying I love my Mac, but the new upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard is totally not worth $29. It should have been a freebie. Also found out, after we spent the money for the box set, that the $29 version is the complete system. So if you are upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard, which we were on my daughter's Mac, you can do it with the cheaper version. We did get the new iWorks and iLife with the box set. Haven't had a chance to do too much with it yet.
Now back to our regularly scheduled football programming.
Crab claws, crab legs, crab meat.
It's all so sweet.
crabby patties
ok, remind me again, Earl. Who do you belong to? Kristina?
yep
thanks.
btw crabby patties >>>>crabs in panties
I love crabs.
is it too early to start getting guesses on the score for Saturday?
yeah, I like those too, THT!!
37-9
nice... but only 9?
I am saying AU by the score of 35 to 17.
how about 45-27... i'm praying hard for the offense...
Good guys 38
La Tech 17
AU 27 - 24
AU 31
La Tech 10
Mrs THT peels the shrimp for THT? My wife says if you want 'em, you peel 'em.
Wes Byrum 4/4 on PAT, 3/3 on FG
you can take it to the bank
Hopefully not Colonial Bank
Auburn 31
LaTech 10
Unrealistically optimistic
Auburn 35
LaTech 0
AU-27
La Tech-18
24-14
yes, depressed, I am spoiled rotten, almost as much as Molly dog. Of course, we never have boiled shrimp unless it's served at some party. She peels and fries them for me at home. I could eat fried shrimp all day long.
And fudge sticks.
And ice cream.
All of those are very optimistic picks. God, I hope we don't get anyone seriously hurt. 11 weeks is a long time until a break.
mmmmm.... ice cream.... coke float...
By the way, I read where we scored a grand total or 7 TDs in SEC games last season. My guess is that we have more than that this season after 2 SEC games.
i'm worried about that too IV
coke float! YUMMY!!! I may have to go open another carton of ice cream. I just emptied the last one into a bowl with Hershey's syrup. YUMMY!!!
I sure hope you're right SFC. But last year at this time a lot of folks, probably me, were thinking we'd have 7 TD in the first SEC game.
ok... i may have to make an ice cream run myself... we're fresh out!
I have not seen the questionable comments this season, like we saw last season. My big concern this year is there are too many positive comments.
ok the average of all the picks so far is AU 32.7778 - La Tech 16.2222. Sound reasonable?
this week Harris Teeter had some ridiculous ice cream special on Breyer's. I think it was buy 2 get 3 free.
Sounds good to me, I'll take it.
I prefer the coaches to talk up the opponents and have our players thinking they will be lucky to beat whoever we play. This season the players are convinced we will be good.
My best friend from Cincinnati shipped me 6 pints of Graeter's ice cream in dry ice for my birthday. Life is soooooo good!
I am convinced we could be good if we stay healthy.
I just had some butter pecan ice cream. Mmmmmmm.
Auburn 37- LaTech 13
i hate when we give up more than 10 points.
This ice cream talk is getting to me. Is anyone else on here diabetic?
Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla with Hershey's Syrup.
Not that I just had a bowl or anything.
I'm trying, IV
IV,
Probably is, but definitely there will be more soon enough.
It ain't alot of fun, believe me.
that EXACTLY what i'm thinking GJ
Blue Bell... Jet really knows how to make his neighbor struggle with the 10th commandment. I think Blue Bell was mentioned in there somewhere.
What up gang?
Thanks to whomever posted the I'm Blue vid. I'm contemplating ambien to drown out the smurf pop.
love me some blue bell homemade vanilla
Bluebell makes a flavor called Southern Style Blackberry Cobbler that is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend it.
Believe me when I tell you that Graeter's Toffee Chip ice cream is the best ice cream EVER!

Believe me when I disagree and say Chocolate Slap from Jake's in ATL is the best ice cream ever!!
I think that THT and some of you other guys need to start going to ICA, ice cream anonymous.
no way, that's too expensive. MrsTHT isn't going to waste money for someone else to peel the shrimp.

Monica has us just under the spread...I asked a completely non biased guy at work (Michigan State guy) and he thinks we blow the doors off of LA Tech.
We have a 220 pound second string defensive end. That is scary.
I'm running a little behind.
Looks more like an ETA of 9:20.
Hello eveyone Long time reader first time commentier, if thats a word. I thought I would join in on the fun this year.

ah, china. One of MrsTHT's vices. My dad, who loved MrsTHT like his own daughter, once said to her, "I don't think you've met a plate you didn't like."
Welcome MikeyC:) The family continues to grow.
