2nd half: Auburn @ LSU

Hey everyone. We're watching -- and commenting on -- the second half of Auburn's game at Louisiana State University.

LSU POSSESSION ONE: TOUCHDOWN. Brandon LaFell 17 pass from Jordan Jefferson. PAT kick good. Drive covered 45 yards in four plays.
AUBURN POSSESSION ONE: FIELD GOAL. Wes Byrum 24 yards. Drive covered 53 yards in nine plays.
LSU POSSESSION TWO: PUNT.
AUBURN POSSESSION TWO: PUNT. Auburn burrowed into LSU territory, but the drive faded fast once it crossed mid-field.
LSU POSSESSION THREE: TOUCHDOWN. Russell Shepard 70 run. PAT kick good. That's a wrap, kids.
I'm no longer updating this in real-time because, well, I have to write and I know how this one is going to end.

This is the PERFECT environment for some experience, as there's absolutely NO pressure. That's the point. That the game is over and nothing is expected. Didn't see that last drive, but it sounds like Caudle was getting rid of the ball.

Jet said...: It's time to move past Chris Todd.

When it was 14-0, I wanted him to have a chance to get the game back in hand. He didn't. Once LSU scored to make it 24-0, it became obvious to me that the game was over and Todd had no useful purpose playing the rest of the night.

An honest appraisal says Auburn will go 6-6 at best. Knowing that, there's no useful purpose in playing Todd anymore.

In my mind, worrying about wins and losses the rest of the way is secondary to developing players. That means give Caudle the keys and give him a chance. It will give him some valuable experience for next year if Tyrik isn't ready.

Work some of the younger OL players in more frequently. Give AC a shot at LB, and let some of the younger ends play. Give Shoemaker a chance at punter again.; 10:17 PM

I think you are a great fan, not fair weather at all and you didn't say anything too wayward tonight. You are much more knowledgeable about how things really work than I am, so I know it is harder to watch. It is very disappointing to watch them self destruct when you really feel like they can do better. But like I said earlier, I was there during the Barfield years. Anything is better. We just got off to too good a start this year and our expectations went through the ceiling. We have come back to earth in a hurry, but it is all good. It is Auburn!; 10:20 PM

Unknown said...: As I said before the season, the biggest danger I saw with Todd starting was if he was good for 3 or 4 games and then ran out of gas. I was willing to give Chris and the staff the benefit of the doubt, that he just had a bad couple of games and he would revert to his early season form if we stuck with him.

Well, now there's really not anything else to play for this year, besides a slightly better bowl game. Todd's not coming back next year, Caudle is. Even if he ends up getting beat out by Tyrick next year, his time is now.

I honestly think we can beat Furman even if we don't attempt a pass the entire game. Anything else will be gravy.; 10:33 PM
