2nd half: Auburn @ LSU

Hey everyone. We're watching -- and commenting on -- the second half of Auburn's game at Louisiana State University.

  • LSU POSSESSION ONE: TOUCHDOWN. Brandon LaFell 17 pass from Jordan Jefferson. PAT kick good. Drive covered 45 yards in four plays.
      LSU 24, AUBURN 0

  • AUBURN POSSESSION ONE: FIELD GOAL. Wes Byrum 24 yards. Drive covered 53 yards in nine plays.
      LSU 24, AUBURN 3

  • LSU POSSESSION TWO: PUNT.

  • AUBURN POSSESSION TWO: PUNT. Auburn burrowed into LSU territory, but the drive faded fast once it crossed mid-field.

  • LSU POSSESSION THREE: TOUCHDOWN. Russell Shepard 70 run. PAT kick good. That's a wrap, kids.
      LSU 31, AUBURN 3

I'm no longer updating this in real-time because, well, I have to write and I know how this one is going to end.

If Caudle throws a pick, we lose. If he doesn't, we lose.

Trotter redshirted last year, so this year will be a total waste for him whether he plays a down or not. Why not give him a chance to prove he's 'not ready'?

DL: You have to give the back up QBs some experience if you ever expect them to perform when it matters. This is the PERFECT environment for some experience, as there's absolutely NO pressure. That's the point. That the game is over and nothing is expected. When they go in vs. UGA or Ole Miss, then it won't be the first time they've played all year.

I amnot around the team, I am not on the "inside" but from the outside it looks like the offense is not a cohesive unit.. It's time to move past Chris Todd.

When it was 14-0, I wanted him to have a chance to get the game back in hand. He didn't. Once LSU scored to make it 24-0, it became obvious to me that the game was over and Todd had no useful purpose playing the rest of the night.

An honest appraisal says Auburn will go 6-6 at best. Knowing that, there's no useful purpose in playing Todd anymore.

In my mind, worrying about wins and losses the rest of the way is secondary to developing players. That means give Caudle the keys and give him a chance. It will give him some valuable experience for next year if Tyrik isn't ready.

Work some of the younger OL players in more frequently. Give AC a shot at LB, and let some of the younger ends play. Give Shoemaker a chance at punter again.

Go 1-5 and there should be no bowl game for you.

Eddie,
I think you are a great fan, not fair weather at all and you didn't say anything too wayward tonight. You are much more knowledgeable about how things really work than I am, so I know it is harder to watch. It is very disappointing to watch them self destruct when you really feel like they can do better. But like I said earlier, I was there during the Barfield years. Anything is better. We just got off to too good a start this year and our expectations went through the ceiling. We have come back to earth in a hurry, but it is all good. It is Auburn!

I agree with Jet though. Turn the keys over to someone else now. You're going 1-5 anyway, why not give someone else a chance?

10:22 PM
Blogger scottiep said...

Of course you are right Jet.

But do you think there is any chance that is the approach we will take for these last 4 games?

10:23 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Yes, hence my earlier post.

Blogger Fearless Freep said...

Tell you what, DL.

Give us a reason why Chris Todd should remain the starting QB based on his performance over the past three weeks.

Y'all might be going 1-5, but I'm not. At least not without a fight.

Cincy-I will fight the good fight, but I am realistic also.

Glad to see you have come around to our way of thinking, DL.

Now about that communist/totalitarian thing. . .we should talk.

Blogger Fearless Freep said...

Oh, and maybe consider some pants and a shirt.

Just a suggestion.

10:27 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Here's a problem:

The staff is coaching like they've got 2 years to make this work. Which may be true. Or may not.

The whole game plan was predicated on eliminating tendencies. Unfortunately, our play eliminated productivity.

10:27 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

I have found that being realistic is highly overrated. It is much more fun to live in my fairy tale land.

10:28 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

As I said before the season, the biggest danger I saw with Todd starting was if he was good for 3 or 4 games and then ran out of gas. Well, it look like he made it 5, but I do think he is done. The problems aren't all Todd, but it is time to build for the future. I'm co co for caudle.

10:29 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

even though we want it- knowing how CGC runs things, what is the % of him actually starting another qb? i say less than 5%

10:29 PM
Blogger Jet said...

When is Jay G gonna give us a new thread? Man, he's leaving this up too long like Gus and Chiz leaving Todd in too long.

Blogger Jet said...

Wes,

I think they got caught up in scheme over personnel.

10:33 PM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

Looks like your fears came true, SFC.

I was willing to give Chris and the staff the benefit of the doubt, that he just had a bad couple of games and he would revert to his early season form if we stuck with him.

Well, now there's really not anything else to play for this year, besides a slightly better bowl game. Todd's not coming back next year, Caudle is. Even if he ends up getting beat out by Tyrick next year, his time is now.

I honestly think we can beat Furman even if we don't attempt a pass the entire game. Anything else will be gravy.

Every time the talking heads mention Tebow tying Herschel's record for rushing TDs, they mention that Herschel did it in three years.

They fail to mention that Tebow has almost half as many carries in his career.

Hopefully, Caudle's going on, WTC. :)

Not that I am an Auburn fan or anything but i agree with those that are calling for Chris Todd to be replaced.

If the offense keeps playing the way it has, then team chemistry could be a concern at some point.
