Arkansas 44, Auburn 23
Hey everyone. I'll be posting some relevant stats, quotes and information here as the afternoon progresses.
- Gene Chizik said LB Eltoro Freeman is on the team, but didn't make the trip because of "personal issues."
- Onterio McCalebb on what the loss means: ``You're going to see a whole different team from what you've seen. We're going to go out there and practice hard. We're not going to be not focused in practice. We're going to come out ever hard because of this loss right here.
- Adam Herring on what happened: ``Coming out of halftime, we knew we were still in it. We knew what our offense would be capable of. We didn't put it together as a team today. We just didn't get the breaks."
- Ted Roof on front-line substitutions: ``We rotated and played a lot of people. That's going to help us develop some depth. We need to do that and we're going to continue to do that. When we do sub, the guys who come into the ball game have to get it done for us."
- Gus Malzahn on what he told players at halftime: ``We just started talking about that there's nothing they were surprising us with. It was just a matter of executing. We kind of shot ourselves in the foot early with some execution, some penalties and some drops, some overthrows -- just some things that we hadn't done all year up to this point."
- UPDATE: I'm headed back to Tulsa. Take care.

New page?
Word...love that new page look.
Celebrity in the Skies ...
Fellow passenger - Dennis Franchione!
I'm stuck on the ground in atl because the plane's door won't close. What a shady trip this has been.
Doors that won't shut on planes, not a good thing.
Hang in there Jay G. You will be back home soon. Have a safe trip from Hotlanta.
Penalties, fumbles and poorly thrown passes aren't poor preparation, those are poor execution. A one time flat team probably isn't poor preparation. coaches can't get a thin team up every week without risking losing the season. We are stretched thin and sometimes it is going to catch up with us.
Poor preparation is poor schemes, game planning and not getting the team to follow those plans. Chronic low energy can be poor preparation.
Will you go to Auburn later today?
No individual gets the blame, it was a team loss.
However it wasn't a one time malfunction. Many indications of impending disaster were there at the Tenn game. Maybe that was the performance level, while we added fumbles for some zest.
Zebras were helping them out bigtime.
Aero,
You sound a bit different today. I like it and agree with your comments.
I put all of the blame on Arkansas and Bobby Petrino.
I thought the officiating went both ways. We were just flat for the first half of the game - plane and simple.
I agree with ole' Coach Dye - your lucky if you can get a team up 4 or 5 times a year to play at their peak performance - can't have that every week. The talented and DEEP teams can win when they aren't at their best. we are talented but will in no way be confused with DEEP.
IV, Yesterday I was annoyed by people blaming the coaches (and ignoring the lack of depth issue). And I'm not a very amicable guy anyways.
I have to go to Auburn.
Don't have time to see my girls today. It's the ugly part of the writing business -- the strain it puts on the family. I feel guilty at times for all but abandoning my wife for days and days. It's pretty pathetic on my part.
Still, the paper needs stories.
I would imagine for sports writers and schoolkids, Sunday evenings can be depressing.
We've been moved to a new plane. Maybe this one will work correctly.
A properly working airplane is always at the top of my list when flying...
Jay,
I know how you feel about your family. I was fortunate in that my job never took me totally away from my family. It is a shame that you have to make those sacrifices at this time in your daughter's lives. Just double up on the love and attention you give them as you can. Glad you got a new plane so as to not put you in any kind of jeopardy. Thank you for all of your efforts and the time you spend to keep the Auburn family informed.
Aero,
If I came at you a little strong yesterday, I am sorry. I just didn't like your comment about Steve FC as I thought that he was sincere in his concern about the Arkansas player who had the stroke. You know, all of us could stand a bit of prayer being said on our behalf. Better still, we all should remember those that need it in our prayers. By the way, Steve FC has a way of about driving me nuts sometimes but I know that he loves Auburn and that makes up for a lot.
Jay G - missing out on family time definitely sucks. Hope you get some recovery time this week.
Jay,
Please ask Roof why we dont blitz, ever,
Ask that and it will make my day.
penalties, slow start, turnovers, no depth, missed tackles, no execution, no first down conversion, i could go on, it all added up the perfect storm and our first loss.
No worries, IV. Water, bridge and stuff.
I've nothing personal against SFC. He likened me to a bammer, I took a shot at him for being a very prolific poster. Water, bridge.
Totally agree Aero, water, bridge stuff. Keep it all Auburn and keep the hate alive.

Roof blitzed a lot at Minn and put a very aggressive-gambling D on the field, so I'm sure there is a good reason why not now and not that he just forgot to blitz.
I'm not sure that the coach should discuss why. The answer to that question should probably employ coachspeak.
About to partake in one of my vices, NASCAR. Got to watch a race in California and no, I am not a Junior fan. Jeff Gordon is who I have pulled for ever since he came in to NASCAR. See you guys in a bit.
Well I'm going to take a nap. Got a busy day tomorrow.
War Eagle.
Not a NASCAR fan at all - take the restricter plates off and let the ones with Stones give it all they got and I might become one. Hats off to those who enjoy it though.
Just got home...
My worthless observations.
We just weren't ready to play. I never thought that the worst D in the SEC would hold us to 108 yards and 3 points in the first half.
If we don't move the ball and score points and keep the ball, our D is a disaster. Our best D is our offense staying on the field and putting points up.
Somebody needs to coach players how to take the correct angles when tackling.
We are the worst team on kick coverages that I can recall.
Bobby Petrino loves Neiko Thorpe because he gave him several opportunities to make a play.
That being said, I don't get the impression that this team ever quit. This isn't last years team, but it did suck to give up 44.
I'll sum it up with a text I sent a friend yesterday...
Arkansas, where good Auburn seasons go to die.
We will overcome.
Well I guess we enjoyed our one week stay in the top 25.
good post, WERK. the kickoff coverage eats at me. i just don't understand how you can't improve on that.
The 70 yard kickoff after we cut it to 34-23 was the backbreaker.
We will be back in the top 25. This is a top 25 level team. It isn't a top 10 team.
Gotta give props to Jay G...
He called the Ole Miss beat down early in the week.
The remaining weeks of the season are going to be very interesting indeed.
I just never thought the worst D in the SEC could keep us to 3 points in the 1st half.
Then again, I might have been wrong about who has the worst D in the SEC.
We really need a new, more positive, uplifting thread. Something entitled things about Saturday that didn't suck would work for me.
I got to see two Allman Brothers & Widespread Panic shows over the weekend, so that didn't suck.
My grandchildren came home from a 10-day vacation yesterday and came over and spent the night with us, so that didn't suck!
WE had my 2 nephewa (5 & 7) so that didn't sux either.....
I don't remember being that full of energy and knowing so much about the world as they do at that age.
But then again there was only the local paper and no internet when I came along.
The joys of having the house to yourself for a few days - I got some yardwork done after church, and I've caught up on all the posts on this thread from where I left off yesterday afternoon. I ought to be working for the man with my "free time" but instead I'll sit here with his notebook PC in my lap and watch football, wait for a new thread from JGT and just goof off in general.
Loganville,
I agree with you on the restricter plates. Thank goodness they are used only at 2 tracks, Daytona and Talledega. I can not understand why you build 200 mph+ tracks and then require the cars to restrict hp so they can't go 200 mph. Of course, NASCAR says that it is for fan safety as well as driver safety. My answer is to abandoned both tracks and add 2 more road courses to the schedule. Of course they will never do that as Daytona and Talledega are the real money tracks. NASCAR can do some strange things.
I lost interest in NASCAR after the King Richard days.... Allison in the catch fence @ +200, Wild Bill setting track records. It is just not the same for me.
Hey LT, I understand. That is why they make chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream, everybody like a different flavor.
First time I've ever posted this..... we need a new thread.
New thread UPZ.
dude, did you wsatch Talledga in the spring? Great race!!! Never abondon goodness.
