Kiffin gets a second spanking
Hey everyone. Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin again has drawn the ire of Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive, who today reprimanded the loquacious 34-year-old.
The rebuke comes because Kiffin complained after his team's 12-10 loss to Alabama last weekend. Immediately after blocking a field-goal attempt as time expired -- and with the game still in progress -- Alabama defensive lineman Terrance Cody removed his helmet to celebrate.
Kiffin argued that Cody should have been flagged for a personal foul. As a result, Tennessee, he agrued, should be allowed to attempt the kick again 15 yards closer to the uprights.
Charles Bloom, a top SEC official, said time had expired by the time Cody removed his helmet. The game had ended.
``I'm sure we'll get one of those letters that mean nothing, that Bobby (Petrino) got last week, but Florida and Alabama live on,'' he told reporters afterward.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Oct. 26, 2009) – Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive has issued a public reprimand to University of Tennessee head football coach Lane Kiffin for his public comments concerning officiating Sunday.
"Coach Kiffin has violated the Southeastern Conference Code of Ethics," Slive said. "SEC Bylaw 10.5.4 clearly states that coaches, players and support personnel shall refrain from all public criticism of officials.”
``This is the second reprimand for Coach Kiffin in this calendar year. Coach Kiffin is on notice that for any further violations of SEC policies will subject him to additional penalties including suspension.”

I'm making it a point this weekend to look downfield at the WR's. Normally, I just look at Todd. I'm also interested to see if the WR's are open. JD, we always DVR the game and watch it when we get home on Sunday. I, too, thought Todd didn't have much time.
KJ- It looked like Todd didn't have a lot of time last week, but I wasn't there. Against Kentucky he had plenty of times and missed several wide open WR's. I think our problems are a little bit of everything from a lack of depth and quality players to first year staff adjusting to each other IMO.
As stated on here many times the basic problem is lack of SEC caliber football players. Just not enough to sustain week after week of pounding. It started to show in the second half of the Tenn game. It as gained ground every week since.
A week off somewhere in there could have helped but would not cure the basic problem. Only time and great recruiting will do that
I agree with Eddie. It's definitely a combination of all those things. I've already written off this season and am looking forward to better things next season.
I still think that the WIND played a huge factor in the game against UK. When I rewatched that game it appeared to me that was a big influence to why CT was missing open WRs.
But, don't you learn to adjust to the wind?
There was a young couple sitting in front of us at the game and the husband "knows somebody" and he said that Todd has tendonitis in his elbow. I don't think that's the issue. Everyone can deal with tendonitis.
On the Jason Campbell topic, I'm not sure if it's playcalling or not, but it always looks like Jason is very tentative to air the ball out. The Skins never stretch the D, so most of his passes end up to the TE.
If we close strong in recruiting we will most definitely have a top ten class. I just hope most of them make it to campus.
The wind is a factor at times, but it's not going to cause you to throw 5 yards short on a pass to a wide open receiver when it's at your back.
RK- Hasn't that always been Jason's tendencies, even while at Auburn for most of his career? Hesistant to throw long and usually looking for the safety valves? Jason Campbell is a very good play action QB. You take the run away from Jason and he struggles to carry a team like a first round draft choice is expected to do.
RK, I think Campbell is tired of getting hit. His O line is horendous. He is shell shocked. He his just looking to get rid of the tater. I think recruiting will be different. I do not hink this staff will try to take the high risk "Diamond" recruit. I think most of our recruits will get in school. They jsut have too!
KJ,
Jason's whole career in DC has been using the short pass and not stretching the D. As Eddie said he was a lot of the same here as well.
The Skins are a dysfunctional franchise, so that has some to do with it, but Jason has never been a gunslinger. He's always tried to avoid risks that could turn into mistakes.
Eddie, I was just catching up on posts and noticed the Disney discussion. I don't dislike Disney, but I found something a little ironic there. You like to immerse yourself in the gritty reality of AU football and to point out things that some of us tend to gloss over, but you like to vacation in one of the most fake places on earth. You are a man of extremes! Maybe we all need Disney to help us handle the stresses of being an Auburn fan.
If Eddie could do a Disney Insider Podcast, he would.
Scott, either that or some alcohol!
Eddie with the DIP.
I agree, RK. That is the west coast O. I think he is a good qb for that system. I agree about the Skins. I grew up a skins fan and it pays me to say that. They have not been the same since synder bought them. I think I read a quote where he is stocking the team off of madden nfl rankings. I do wish jason well because I think he never has had a consistent opportunity to be successful as his potential. He has never had multiple years with an OC.
Good morning from rainy Philadelphia. Time for me to go get an "Official Philly Cheesesteak" from Pat's.
[sorry, don't have time to wait for Michael's rebuttal]
I'll cover for him... The original Philly Cheese steak is from Chili's.
Scott C- Yes, life of extremes for me :). As my bro said, I could do the Disney Insider Podcast with all the time I spend reading and listening on the going on's there at the world. I don't drink much, so maybe that's why I need Disney :). Disney is definitely an escape, unless you happen to be there and on your last day of the trip you find out the Gene Chizik was just hired as your coach and then you think, somebody is pulling one over on me, no way :)!!!!!!! I've been hooked as a kid, even tho we didn't go down there on a regular basis, but I do now and will continue to do so.
Yeah...what he said.
Where have you been J-Z?
Disney= The happiest place on earth.
Disney was definitely not the happiest place on earth when Eddie heard about Chiz's hiring, but he's learned patience since then.
Work and life have been crazy lately, but things are getting back into a groove. I've been lurking, just didn't have much to contribute to the bashing... Although that's never stopped me before.
J-Z: You can't let work and life get in the way of HABOTN time and bashing :)!
Bash me brother. I am 70 years old. I can take it.
Alright, you Disney fanatics! Just make sure your kids go see some real stuff sometimes, too. We took the kids to Disney and did the cruise in 2006. They loved it, but we've taken them to different places in the U.S. that they've loved just as much. This summer is Yellowstone! If you ever go there, remind the kids that the animals are real and not animatronics, otherwise it could get ugly! Speaking of getting ugly, I'm taking my son to the game this weekend. It will be his first trip to a game that AU stands a good chance of losing. I hope JH ends up being "The Happiest Place on Earth" on Saturday.
Meh, I'm done.
