Tennessee: WTH?

Hey everyone. The fun keeps on coming.

ESPN now is reporting that Lane Kiffin, the affable Tennessee coach, has agreed to a deal with Southern Cal. So he'd be gonzo from Rocky Top.

How bummed are Tennessee fans?

I don't expect you to be sympathetic. Auburn fans and (our few resident) Alabama sympathists have this in common: Feeling at least moderate disdain toward UT.

Next coach at UT? Thoughts?

Do USC and Kiffen each realize what they're getting? As soon as the Bush trial happens and releases the proof to the NCAA, USCw will be on double secret probation. Kiffen on the other hand is a loose cannon and can't help but being a lightning rod.

richt: he may sense he has run his course at uga if his ccordinator hires don't pan out and fresh surroundings may be appealing.

tony franklin: dumbass don't get no repect!!

paul johnson: the triple option finally returns to the sec. he's losing a lot of talent to nfl this year and it would be a step up like for davis.

I still don't get why Kiffikin is such a hot commodity as a head coach. Yea, he is probably a very good OC, but he just doesn't seem like head coach material to me. On the up side, it will be very interesting to see what goes on with USC. It would make probation for them a little sweeeter.

at this point, it's probably not something that shouldn't be considered. Stability is really important right now. UT's gotta get a coach in fast, and doesn't have time to waste with interviews and what not to make sure the guy they get is the right fit. Bad choice, but might be the right thing to do to keep them from completely imploding.

Yes, you have to feel for the Haitian people.

As for Fulmer, it would absolutely shock me if he were willing to go back. I know it was his dream job, but the only thing worse than getting fired from your dream job would be getting fired from your dream job twice.

Donahue took a year off, and he's still mentioned in Auburn blogs (okay, once, and that was today, and it was super random, but still), why can't Phil.

12:33 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Phil could. Shug Jordan initially coached Auburn basketball a couple of times and switched to football. Fulmer could be back to coach basketball too. I just wouldn't call it likely.

Digger would've been streaking at a riot like that.

Blogger Unknown said...

Hahaha, possibly so. I still can't imagine the UT students doing that. I mean, compare that with what others, such as the Haitians, are going through. It is simply bizarre.

I had already planned to tell my boss in Oregon to not assume all of us are ignorant rednecks in the south because of the trophy Walmart thing. I guess I now have to mention UT too, but I am now uncertain if he will buy it.

Funny story:

While UT players were waiting / talking to lame kitten, ed orgeron was busy calling early enrollees and telling them to move to USC.

Some early enrollees were in the same room as the team. They put their phone on speakerphone and let the rest of the team hear ed orgeron.

WILDBOYZ!!!!

Good morning, Hotties! It's Hump Day!!

Wow! This thread was started at 7:30 p.m. last evening and there are 565 posts! I guess you guys had a little something to say about the coaching carousel! I, of course, can't go through them, but maybe Jet can give me a brief synopsis.

I have a question...why do they even have contracts?

That's crazy. Don't most people think USCw is about to get hammered by the NCAA?

When I heard about it last evening, I said, "He's going from the frying pan into the fire!"

You think maybe the UT AD got an early start this morning?

What a gold mine this morning. Take a look at this gem:

Orgeron trying to recruit UT early Enrollees while Kiffin speaks to team

ehyou- I think Mike Hamilton never went to sleep and is probably scared to come to campus at this point. If they are smart, they go get Muschamp IMO.

Kiffin goes to USC

Mass panic in Knoxville

They're looting the Food King

Remain calm.

All is well.

Coaches contracts are merely "pre-nuptial agreements" to set up payments while together and pre-arranging "the divorce."

Next coach? Not Tuberville.

Eddie...
Orgeron went so far as to call the UT early enrollees and advise them not to go to class because that makes it harder to transfer.

Thanks, Jet!

Ok, my home state went crazy over Kiffin last night. I won't lie, I've enjoyed this.

Tar Heel, I hope you're feeling better!

RK- Local radio should be enjoyable today. I've found this whole situation quite enjoyable from my vantage point.

Blogger LuvAU1968 said...

I sure wish I see the videos! I'm sure they are very amusing!

I do feel kinda bad for the university and the fans...

6:57 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Part of me is sad, because the odds are they will hire a better coach.

Then part of me wonders if UT fans will go this far, how far would Alabama fans go if Saban left?

6:59 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Auburn has a huge door opened with Lane leaving with some of the recruits that had committed to UT that Auburn wanted. Brandon Willis, Corey Miller & JC Copeland come to mind. This could be huge and apparently Auburn was already on the horn with Willis last night. Good stuff for us.

This saddens me only for the fact he could have done more damage.

Who wants the to have a "good" coach.

Ya think the bammers will say Kiffin bolted because he was afraid of Saban? LOL

Morning Hotties - a pretty busy morning for me but I'll check in when I can.

Let me give you a few discussion topics:
Tuberville & Franklin
Todd's effectiveness as a QB
Cheap beer
Hot chicks
Recruiting
Low ratio of drifters to students at AU

That's all, please discuss no other topics besides what's above.

Best line from Forde's article:

"Kiffin comes across as a guy who was born on third base and acts as if he hit a triple"

Good luck with work today. Don't overdo.

Luv - Thought of you this morning. I slept until an extravagant 7 am. That must be like the middle of the day for you!

Norm,
Sorry, I broke the rules. I do love breaking rules, though. You still having to wear a patch? Can't tell since you changed your avatar.
