Baseball weekend wrap-up
Hey everyone. So Auburn had a fairly successful weekend on the ol' baseball diamond this weekend.
The Tigers earned a series sweep over Mississippi State, a team that entered the weekend in 11th place. Coach John Pawlowski's team handled business with amplomb -- particularly at the plate. That's where seven batters compiled weekend averages over .400.
Here is the honor roll:
- OF Brian Fletcher -- 7-for-14, 7 RBIs
- 1B Hunter Morris -- 6-for-12, 4 RBIs
- SS Casey McElroy -- 5-for-10, 6 RBIs
- C Ryan Jenkins -- 7-for-12, 6 RBIs
- DH Kevin Patterson -- 4-for-7, 3 RBIs
- 3B Dan Gamache -- 3-for-7, 3 RBIs
Auburn finished the weekend with 43 hits. Ten of them were doubles, one was a triple and the team hit 12 balls over the wall.
Stuff like that doesn't happen anywhere very often ... let alone Auburn.
So where is the team positioned in the standings? Glad you asked.
Auburn is 15-9 in league play, which places it in a tie for second in the Western Divison. The team is one game back of division-leading Arkansas. The team is tied for fourth overall ... and would have to completely implode to fall out of the postseason picture.
Next up: A home series against Tennessee, which currently is in 8th place.

Back in the shed, Seanzie!
New. Page. Smell.
I was trying to guess right...just missed.
I did my best to stay out of your way, Norm.
Thanks Jet.
Sean ... that's the point ... it's just like expansion ... you think can do it better ... but you can't.
Norm is the flipper. Everyone else just needs to get the heck of out his way.
Now, get your @$$ back in the shed.

Michael- You are right, I am wrong on the contract. I had read that article before, but incorrectly. Should have paid closer attention to the money side. But, the per school breakout is skewed since they payout to 11 teams, but then again, they don't have a championship game. That will change things.
Which would you prefer?
1) Auburn wins the NC with one loss to Alabama.
2) Auburn goes undefeated and wins the SEC, but doesn't win the national title.
Inquiring minds want to know.
As much more money that the big 10 makes per school from their crappy network, they still don't pull the most per school in total revenues from all sources. Plus, it's cold there.
Listen here, Sean Paul Tool Shed, ex post facto post erasers don't work here.
Actually, they might, but you'll have erase your admission that you erased it.
Get some.
Yeah, wacking WhoVille would be nice too.
By BCS rankings, weren't they like the number 6 conference last year? And we are thinking about copying them?!?!?!?! Yankee idiots.
SEC Expansion...bad period.
As you say, Jet. And for the record, I've not left the Tool Shed. It has amazing Wi-Fi access.
I will try to find the article, but the are 5-6 SEC schools that are usually in the top 10 in revenue every year.
This is interesting, to lazy to link...
http://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/stories/2009/06/15/daily6.html
I don't know that expansion of the SEC is bad or good. I would like to see how the scheduling would work. For instance, if we wouldn't play Georgia every year, I am against it.
The last time the SEC expanded, was it good or bad for Auburn?
In terms of our schedule, it got a little easier. We no longer play UT and UF every year. The problem is, I loved playing UT and UF every year. UT was always about the second or third game of the season and huge. UF was always right before Georgia, making amen corner very impressive.
I ended up not liking how things ended up the last time the SEC expanded. If we expand again, a lot will depend upon how it happens. Move Auburn into the east and make Bama our permanent west opponent, and I would love it.
Seems like I stumped the band with my one loss NC versus undefeated no NC question.
I would take winning the crystal ball and the loss to Bammer.
They won the battle but they lost the war.
Is is possible to be a dullard and a ninny at the same time?
The best part about the tool shed is it is a safe haven from puppets.
It would make one a "ninnard."
You know what is also a safe haven from puppets? A containment dome. I have one for sale, if anyone is interested.
Steve, I'd take the championship.
Michael- I am if we can put it over Steve :).
Winning the crystal ball w/o beating Bama would just feel wrong.
I know Jet and I have agreed on this in the past, but beating LSU in 2001 (and sending us to Atlanta for the Championship game) after getting stomped by Bama at J-H the week before would have been a hollow victory for me.
I wonder if UF ever sits there and wonders what it's like to not have beaten AU and Ole Miss those two times. I guess they can ponder it while they stare at the Waterford Crystal.
I wouldn't mind either if we lost Florida or Ole Miss and still won the national title.
But Bama is a different story.
To me, E-bro, it's just another stepping stone on the way to a trophy. It doesn't matter who it is to me.
Is it nice to beat Bama, sure but it's better to win the hardware.
As a fan, I think I would be more pleased with our 2004 year than the LSU 2 loss championship year. 2004 vs either of Florida's one loss years... now, that is a bit harder. I actually started to type I would prefer a 1 loss BCS champ year, but after thinking about it, no, the undefeated thing is better.
Well, I guess I can rest easy because it's hard to envision a scenario in which we lose to Bama, but then play in and win the national title two games later. Maybe a scenario like Bama had with Florida this year if they had lost to us the week before, the likelihood is low thankfully.
It's cool. We're gonna win em all anyway.
Seanzie, that's a mighty fine shed you got there boy.
FUTBOL
Charlie Davies was not medically cleared by his club in France, so did not make the provisional US roster for the World Cup. Sad, but not suprising.
On to Plan B (Buddle or Gomez...or neither).
Personally, I would always prefer the undefeated season over an NC, but I consider it a matter of preference. I find the thrill from watching the games rather than what others may think of us.
Michael's LSU example beats them all. I would be embarrassed to claim that NC. LSU really didn't deserve it.
Here is another interesting question. I think we can all agree that Auburn was better than Oklahoma in 2004. I also believe we were better than USC.
But we played a close game against Virginia Tech in our bowl game, while USC spanked Oklahoma like a red headed step child.
Does that mean USC was better than us or does that mean Virginia Tech was better than Oklahoma?
conference call over.
glad to see no venom was spared during my absence on the SEC16 (trademark). i generally don't like messing with a good thing (like AU's unis), but if the sec has a chance to snatch up some premier teams and passes the future consequences could be everyone catches up.
i'll be looking for the check from mr. slive in the mail...
It doesn't mean anything, Steve. It means that those were the results on those days under the circumstances at the time.
I think you undermine your any credibility as a truly great team by winning the national title with two losses, but if everyone else has two losses, I would still take a ring.
With 16 teams I still like the concept I mentioned earlier where only divisional games count toward the conference championship. Playing everyone in the division would mean 7 required games. I would also have the SEC kickoff weekend which would be a required game against the opponent that was ranked approximately the same as you the previous season. That makes only 8 required games, which leaves 4 to play anyone you like, including teams from the other division.
Yes, you could conceivably win every divison game and lose 5 games against the other division and make the SECCG, but I consider that fair. It would just mean you were the best in the division, but not close to being the best in the SEC. I consider it unlikely, but possible.
PF, I agree with the addition that you have to also consider matchups. Some teams match up better against others. Just because A beats B and B beats C doesn't mean A will beat C.
They've done studies you know, 60% of the time, it works every time.
Discuss.
That's it for me. I'm taking it to the crib. I look forward to catching up on posts later tonight.
Yeah, Steve, I think that was included in my post.
Your logic is flawed, Steve, because the A Team could never conceivably lose anyway.
Can we talk about beer or something? I think this horse is dead :)
I just read back through all the comments since 7:32 this morning. I think there were only about 18 comments, they were just each repeated about 23 times.
Just kidding...
cincy bringing the hammer! Then says she is kidding to try make all the people she has laid waste to feel a little bit better.
Anyone going to the baseball games this weekend? We will be there for Tylerson's graduation. We are going to be packing him and moving him to Huntsville, but I hope we can catch the one Friday night.
michael,
You know how much I love talking about beer.
So where'd yall get the name "Tylerson" anyway, cincy? Did you like the name Tyler, but it just wasn't quite grand enough? Or is it because his dad's name is Tyler, and he is the son? I should have named my boy Michaelson.
Wouldn't be as good as Danielson, though.
Get him a body bag! Yeahhhhhhh!!!!
you can beat the A team if you slip b.a. an oxycontin in his milk.
Thinking about making that his official name cause you're right, Tyler just isn't grand enough. Most of the time I call him Mr. T. Although her really looks nothing like Mr. T.
I trust Michael's opinion more than others since he has the most direct knowledge of sports, being possibly the only person to ever have tried out for every major professional sports team.
stay in drugs, drink your school and don't do milk kids!
Ha, so his name is really Tyler? I'll bet your real name isn't even really Cincy, is it? This blog is full of lies. My real name is Craig, by the way.
he doesn't look like Mr. T either and won't be happy I called him her
Not lies, michael, it is pretend
while we're coming clean. I don't have a moustache or a maroon blazer
Well, that's not exactly dropping a bomb on me, Harrison (or is your name really just Harri?) I have always imagined you as naked and hairless.
Few realize Michael had offers from many professional teams, but he turned them all down because they failed to make him the highest paid player even though he could do something no other player could.
that's pretty close michael,
My professional career was derailed by a foxhunting injury in Eurasia. Note to others, do not carry more than one bear trap while riding an ostrich.
And let me tell you what, if you haven't done a foxhunt with bear traps on ostrichback, then you haven't lived, brother. You probably also don't have the scars I do.
Still, Michael is one of the few people in the world that do jigsaw puzzles by first finding the middle peice and working his way out from there.
I saw some fox in the woods qhile i was playing golf once. That's similar
one word michael: llamas
this is the HABOTN blog I know and love
Awecome avatar Cincy.
can i get a avtmysylvnslih;mxpm from the congregation?
Awesome letters on the avatar, but I still think the old plates looked sooooooo much better. They were much classier. These new ones look like they were airbrushed my some dude at a mall kiosk. I am thinking about not renewing ours again until they look classy.
That'll be 5 years, michael
Just ordered Tylerson's cake for graduation. Having a party at our condo after his 10 am ceremony. I think I just ordered enough cake for 50 people! Anyone in town, stop by!
POOPCOOLER!
Some people are glass half full people. SOme people are glass half empy people. Michael is a the glass is the wrong size person.
Expansion is good for the SEC and will lead to a playoff...now back to the shed.
I really didn't like the license plates at first, but they are growing on me. I do like the old ones better, but they won't let you keep them.
Okay, this expansion talk seems like a heated topic. Maybe we should think outside the box. How about conference contraction. Let's kick four teams out of the conference and go with an eight team conference. Bye bye Vandy, Kentucky, MSU, South Carolina.
And even better, how about the team with the worst record each year gets replaced? Yea, that's the ticket.
There are an insane amount of posts from 8-5 on this blog, making some realize the true source of the fluctuating and troublesome market.
wellsAU, we attempted to solve all the problems with college football in one day. It made for a hectic day.
Anybody in the Gump want to buy me dinner tonight?
SFC, I managed to read most of them. Then I decided I liked the post about...
FUTBOL
No Freddy Adu? No Charlie Davies? No Ronaldinho or Ronaldo for Brazil?!
More on SOCCER
I also just saw on Sportscenter that Luca Toni and Francisco Totti were left off of Italy's roster. Good riddance. I absolutely loathe the Italian dive-masters.
I was a little surprised to see Patrick Viera off of France's despite his age.
Man, I got a real cool practical joke, but not enough people to implement it. I need about twenty people to head into a Staples and walk around looking and screaming, "Wow, that's not a low price"!!! Sorry, but that commercial is getting very old.
You want a really cool practical joke, wait until the team runs out to Fat Bottomed Girls in September....oh, and J-Z says hi.
I'm with Michael. I may have mentioned that I hate the tags when the design was released. I definitely thought it.
I do like that the worst teams get promoted and demoted idea sSteve. That's another flogging, though.
SOCCER
Freddy Adu is a 37 year old posing as a 20 year old. They kill people for that in South Africa. He's being held out for his safety.
I guess no one is going to take me up on dinner?
Does anyone at least have a suggestion of what I should eat?
Mobilz has no love. He's at the game (Auburn 3-0 in the 2nd) and has provided no updates.
Miller,
Hold off on dinner. Chick Fil A is releasing the spicy chicken sandwich June 7.
I can't wait that long. I need food soon.
AU up 5-2 in the top of the 4th.
Did everyone vote for the new intro musak?
They better have voted for Fat Bottomed Girls
World Cup starts in a month.
Yep.
Time to scream like a little school girl. American Idol is on.
I had my say about expansion earlier and if I say anthing else I would be repeating and Shed bound so No Comment.
Did someone say Soccer is just starting? I thought it had been on going since January. Oh well maybe it will keep some from playing in traffic.
Digger...soccer has been going pretty much since last Auguat between club teams across the world, but the World Cup begins in a month.
I voted for Fat Bottomed Girls.
Chick-Fil-A Spicy Chicken....that is menu expansion I can go for.
AU 5 USA 4
Eddie,
You get to administer Steve's floggings he earned today. COngrats.
PF- What is our record against USA? It seems like they win more than we do if my memory is correct.
PF- Awesome. Something I can enjoy.
I voted today for "Run Through the Jungle" by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
I voted for Tammy's in Love by Debbie Reynolds.
Ok, I really haven't voted yet. Apathy has set in.
puck drops in 1 hour, btw.
The blog was crazy today. I was busy and couldn't keep up with all the back and forth stuff. It was like playing cards with my sisters kids. Only my sister doesn't have kids and I don't have a sister.
Run Through The Jungle would be an excellent selection. Anyone selecting Eye of the Tiger should be flogged. Also, any rap selection is deserving of flogging. There is no reason we can't use someone who can sing.
Eddie,
USA dominates the series 44-22. That's twice as many wins for those keeping score at home.
Auburn 6 USA 4 going in to the 8th.
The 7th featured Auburn getting 4 outs (3 strikeouts and a fielder's choice).
CH=B do we claim the 2004 BCS Championship if USC is stripped of their title? I'm hearing the making of a trophy is in the works. The slogans will be "Remember the Winning Gene" and "There Must be a Champion".
SFC, I dare you to flog me. You won't get past my taser.
Weeman, no we do not claim it based on USC being stripped. I think we lay claim because all football championships are flawed and we had just as much right to 2004's championship as anyone. Throughout the history of college football teams have claimed championships (walmartians are not the only ones). I think we should start claiming several others as well.
I'm taking SteveFC in a battle vs CH=B, even if it's flogging club vs taser. I've seen both of their pictures, and there's no way Steve can't flip a homicidal maniac switch if he wants to.
Auburn really needs to switch to the "Baseball Livestats" software for next year. It's way better than what they're using.
USA gets two runs with a 2 run ding dong to tie it up in the 9th. AU 6 USA 6. Free baseball.
You're all a bunch of ninnies....except for Steve "The Enforcer" FC of course.
i say we accept the crystal egg if offered and toss it off the upper deck of JHS in pregame to open the season.
or bury it in an undisclosed location.
then sell the pieces for $1 each as a fundraiser.
Okay, this morning when I looked in there were ~ 150 posts. Tonight there are over 500. Would somebody please tell me what in the name of the Wide Wild World of Sports is happening?
AUMom, we decided to solve all the problems with college football this morning. Sorry, but it took quite a few posts.
Basically, there were 13 posts repeated over and over and over and over and over and over and over and...well, you get the point. Then SteveFC destroyed CH=B in a HABOTN Death Match.
AU-USA still tied. 11th inning.
So sorry I missed that. Please carry on.
who is in charge of mailing the transcript of today's bloggings to the ncaa, conference comissioners and university presidents? i don't think we have solved that problem yet.
jet-check your Fb mail.
USA's coach needs to be fired. He just put in the guy who started Sunday's game and pitched 7 innings. I can think of no better way to run a kids arm than one day rest.
AU had bases loaded one out...yet got no runs. Moving on to the bottom of the 11th.
Oops. THey scored 3 runs, not 0.
Pf, once again you don't know what you are talking about. Yes SFC was beating the crap out of me in the death match, but he summoned his inner Tubberville and I came back to win.
USA wins off a walk-off 3 run HR....Boooooo.
Who the heck do you think you are? Don't EVER "once again" me!
oooooooooooooooooooooooooo
wtc,
What's the word on Thomas O'Reiley. TN is apparently pushing hard for him.
Well, at least the Penguins aren't as bad as the Canucks.
Yea, but the Canucks still have the cooler name.
PF-I haven't heard anything on that about O'Reilly. I will check in Wednesday and see what is going on. I know they were not even recruiting him as late as mid April.
On another note, that athlete from Fla (Hart is his name) has come back and said AU and Michigan were his leaders. AU was hard after him as an athlete, though he plays RB in HS. He will graduate in December and enroll early. Most thought he is going to Michigan after he said he was going to UM for a visit while they are having their big BBQ weekend (sorta like BCW)Now he says he wants to come to AU's BCW.
There is a law firm here in Columbia named Turnipseed & Associates. Now, doesn't that name just instill confidence.
Good night Hotties
Sweet AU dreams!
Good morning, Hotties!
Rise and shine!
WARRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
THT with the goodnight and good morning!
Good morning Hotties. We're exactly one month away from US-England in the World Cup.
DON'T TREAD ON ME!!
Morning Hotties. We meet again.
Just got back from 45 minutes of walking the HUGE hill I live on. It is muggy today!! Those cool mornings have morphed into AL's typical humidity! But I hurt so good :)
Good morning all. We need some good Auburn news today. WTC how bout stirring up a commitment or something.
I normally want the Braves to win for my own selfish reasons, but I want them to win this year for Cox.
Things haven't been the same without Skip and it's gonna be even weirder next year.
Hopefully they've had their ebb for the year and now it's time to flow.
I miss watching Leo Mazonne rock in the dugout. I don't think the Braves have been the same since he left.
cincy - absolutely no doubt about it.
115 days and about 9.5 hours til kickoff. Somebody can check my math; that was just a guess.
I'm ready for Fall.
Sup?
According to the Gadsden Times Jim Delaney Commish of the big 10+1 says no offers made to any school. The regular annual meeting on May 17 they would discuss expansion. He said they would like to get to 12 teams so they could have a play off.
I hope the Big 10 + Not Big One takes Pitt. Go Panthers!
They probably won't a better TV market, though.
mornin' hottt ones. Hudson got some run support & a win last nite for the Braves. he walked a career-high 6 but gutted it out.
Would they still be the Big Ten if they go to twelve? Could they be the Big Twelve? After all, the other conference is the Big 12, not the Big Twelve. Or maybe they could be the Big Dozen, or the Dirty Dozen. Or they could add 2 schools and be the BDC (Baker's Dozen Conference)
Big 10 has said they will always keep the Big 10 name for tradition purposes, even when they expand.
I think the Big 10 will be looking to grab NYC and Baltimore/DC tv markets. They are undoubtedly going after Columbia and Johns Hopkins.
