Let the watching begin

Hey everyone. Hope you're having a great SUMMER SOLSTICE. It's the longest day of the year, so make the most of it!

I'm just here to pass along some information about two Auburn football players.

Linebacker Craig Stevens and offensive tackle Lee Ziemba have been named to award watch lists. It's a rite of passage for college seniors. These two players are, in my opinion, deserving.

Stevens has caught the attention of people who administrate the Nagurski Trophy. The senior-to-be was credited with 90 tackles last season. He also was one of the four players who participated in all 115 snaps of the Outback Bowl. They don't come tougher than that.

Ziemba is up for the Outland Trophy, which goes to the nation's top lineman -- on offense or defense. The Arkansas native is tall, strong, durable and generally good. What else can I say?

Unsurprisingly, Isner didn't last long in his second round match today at Wimbledon. Lost in straight sets, 0, 3, and 2.

Time to see how far his doubles play goes in the tourney and then go get some rest.

Happy Friday, Hotties!

Regarding the CFA spicy chicken sandwich, my friends at a local franchise mistakenly gave me the spicy instead of the regular sandwich that I had ordered. I liked it and will get it again, but I must admit the first bite was a surprise.

I think the Dawg and the Frog deserve a lot of credit for surviving their marathon and displaying sportsmanship afterward.

Have a good weekend, everybody!

I received a football scholarship offer once, sort of, kind of.

Late August after my friends were back in college and I was waiting for fall qtr to start, I would go up to jr high field and placekick my official AU football, routinely from 40 yards and a few times from 50 yards. On one occasion, the jr hi team was practicing on a playground at least 150 yds away. The coach sent one of his players over to ask if I was interested in playing for them. That was 50 lbs ago, so I guess I looked "jr high eligible" from a distance.

Hoopie, if you gotta go downtown ATL, The Varsity's (exit 249D) bathrooms are generally ok. Plus, you can get a chili cheese dog to hold you over. Of course, you'll have to find a restroom 5 or 6 miles down the road from the varsity once that chili cheese dogs jets through your bowels at light speed, but ATL has lots of bathrooms, and it'll be worth it.

I have read where the Maryland AD may go to NC State. The Maryland football coach may be fired at the end of the season. Maryland was 2-10 last season, an all time record.

This makes the fact that I read some articles suggesting Maryland would be a good fit for the SEC even more hilarious. I suppose if we want to have someone for Vandy and Kentucky to beat up on regularly, it just might make sense.

100% agreed MTD. That "genius" sure didn't fare well with the Falcons. I won't argue he's a good coach, but standing head and shoulders above the rest? Nay. I'd say Mr. Hollis is reaching BIG here. The words "not even close" seem intended to irritate (which it did irritate me).

I love Gus, and I'm optimistic, but I don't have a problem with Hollis' statement.

Petrino's got a body of work that says he's pretty special. Gus is still building his. I think he can do it.

Meyer's obviously a good coach, too, but he's had far superior athletes to his competition at Utah and Florida. He was his most exploitative when he had Percy Harvin. Imagine that.

The best to ever wear #70, and my 2nd all-time favorite AU Defensive Tackle, David Campbell was All-American in 1968. He almost single-handedly destroyed the Miami Hurricanes offense on October 26, 1968, helping pave the way to unranked Auburn's crushing 31-6 victory over the 9th ranked Canes.

Campbell had 7 sacks, that's SEVEN SACKS, in that game for -59 yards as Miami piled up a whopping MINUS 85 yards on the ground that day against an inspired AU defense. Never did Push 'em back, Push 'em back, Waaaaayyyy back have more meaning.

THT,

There's a civil war store around the corner from my house. They supposedly have old stuff. I wonder if they have maps.

When I think about how some of us overreacted to the hire of Chiz I now sit back and laugh. We were scared that he couldn't take Auburn back to being a national power. Well the only ones that are scred now are the bammers in turd town. They know what is coming and we showed that last year when we dominated them for 58 minutes. The recruiting has taken a 360 since Coach Chiz and company arrived and we are owning the state. Looking back it is funny to think how we acted. Last year showed the possibilities while we took the cheating bammers to the wire and winning a New Year's Day bowl game.
OFFENSIVE STAFF - There is no comparison here but I'll give one anyway. Malzhaun is the mostly highly thought of OC in football. We are lucky to hang on to him. He is innovative and set records with a broken down QB. What he can do with a talent like Cam will be fun to watch. Trooper and Luper just make the offensive staff that much stronger. They are incredible recruiters that know how to relate to young people and reel their mommas in with them. They talk about the Auburn family and what it means to be a Tiger. Troop improved the WR's so much and Luper's RB's improved as well. I thought Grimes did a great job with the OL and that will show up even more during the upcoming season.

The bammer OC (McElwane?, I don't know how to spell it) is just doing what Saban says. He couldn't mustard anything against our defense last year. I don't know who their other coaches are because they aren't as well thought of as our guys. I think Pendry is a decent OL coach but I continue to hear that he is stepping down. The bams would trade with us right now. We are the offense kids want to play for. Who wants to play in an offense that throws it 12 times a game. If you are a WR do you want to play for a staff that can't figure out how to get the ball to Julio? It will be a long year for the turds on offense this year.

HUGE EDGE AUBURN!!!

DEFENSIVE STAFF - It's hard to tell from last year just how great this defensive staff is. The personel wasn't on par with Auburn teams of the past. Tubs left us high and dry. Roof and Chiz know defense and that will show this year with the incredible recruits coming in. Rocker is an unreal DL coach and now he has some depth to work with. The bammers had a good defense but this staff will have a hard time replacing all their losses. Smart is a good coach but he will probably leave after this year. What is joke is that they have a high school assistant coaching their DB's. If you remember the red neck that screamed a lot on the MTV show Two a Days then you know you their DB coach is. Nobody wants to work for Saban. Their best defensive assistant (I want say his name because he is a traitor) got out of there ASAP.

EDGE AUBURN!!

HEAD COACHES - Chiz is a rising star as a head coach. People love his family approach to coaching and he is highly thought of around the state. He has won over the state in a short amount of time because he can relate to people. The staff loves to work for him. Saban is a guy who only cares about himself. Things have gone well for him for a couple of years but they getting ready to crash and burn and I beleive he knows it. He is a dictator and cares about nothing but winning. He works his guys to hard and doesn't bring a Christian aspect to his coaching. We are so lucky to have a Godly man like Coach Chiz. This time next year Saban will be in his shadow.

Wow, Weeman, what an encouraging post to wake up to! Thanks for your analysis. Is it time for football yet? No, THT, says it is 70 days away!

Hoopie,
Thank you so much for reminding me of how much I hate that song with a few words. I had just about gotten it out of my head, but it is back!!!

8:20 AM
Blogger Jet said...

OK, I shut down the computer for the evening, and I log back on this morning, and I see that Hoopie's lost his ever-lovin' mind.

Breakin' off "Midnight at the Oasis" lyrics?

There are two things, nay, three, I'd never expect from Hoopie:

1. "I wrote a letter to the Governor asking Lowder to be reappointed."

2. "Too many things said here are based on empirical evidence. We need more unadulterated speculation and raw emotion."

3. "I know your daddy's a sultan ..."

CIncy ..why is it that songs we hate stay in our head? I was hearing "It
s a Small World" for weeks after my last Disney visit.

I guess we need to follow THT's lead and transfer that hate into more hate for the Infidels.

Jet ..I blame that personality anomaly on the football off-season. I got too much time on my hands and am obviously seeking diversions. Thanks for the perspective, you may have brought me back from the edge.

THT,
What number did Ben Tamburello wear? I heard a neat tidbit about him yesterday. I have an older friend whose husband has very advanced Parkinson's and he can't be left alone. Different men from her church come and sit with him on Sundays so she can attend church. Her husband was a high school football coach for many years, so he loves talking football. Ben is one of the men who comes and sits with him. He brought him a Philadelphia Eagles jersey the last time. I love Auburn!

I've had my morning run, my breakfast and my shower. Now I'm relaxing a bit. F4* is at his grandparents for the weekend so that means we get to do some projects we've been putting off for around the house. I suspect Hot Wife won't think I need to relax quite as much as I think I will.

Midnight at the Oasis is terrible. Awful.

Keep Hate Alive.

Happy weekend all you hotties!!

Couple things as I was perusing comments 600-768: The 16 year old inside me always giggles thinking about the USC's being the Gamecocks and the Trojans. I just laughed a bit, again.

Cleaning the bookcase this morning I cam across my Auburn Fan Day 1988 picture board thing, and evidetly have an interesting group sign it. Carlo Cheattom, Craig Ogletree, Brian Shulman, Ron Stallworth, Gary Dunn, James Joseph, Lamar Rogers, Stacy Danley, Greg Taylor, Shan Morris, Quentin Riggins, Ace #18 (Alexander Wright), and of all folks Eric Ramsey. So I got some of the famous and an infamous one all on the same card

I did a search on Ramsey as I was trying to remember when he graduated. One of the first things that popped up was a link to his "myspace" page. I don't do "myspace", but the photo on his page is him leaning against a wall shirtless with a real serious look on his face. Dude is 41 years old and he thinks it's cool to have a shirtless photo of himself on his myspace page. Sad. Funny too, but sad nonetheless. I wish him nothing but the worst.
