Let the watching begin
Hey everyone. Hope you're having a great SUMMER SOLSTICE. It's the longest day of the year, so make the most of it!
I'm just here to pass along some information about two Auburn football players.
Linebacker Craig Stevens and offensive tackle Lee Ziemba have been named to award watch lists. It's a rite of passage for college seniors. These two players are, in my opinion, deserving.
Stevens has caught the attention of people who administrate the Nagurski Trophy. The senior-to-be was credited with 90 tackles last season. He also was one of the four players who participated in all 115 snaps of the Outback Bowl. They don't come tougher than that.
Ziemba is up for the Outland Trophy, which goes to the nation's top lineman -- on offense or defense. The Arkansas native is tall, strong, durable and generally good. What else can I say?

What's cooking hotties?
Mobile substance
Sorry I haven't been around more.
It'll pick up before too long. Media Days is one month away, I believe.
I'm expecting big things out of both of these players.
Jay,
Are you enjoying World Cup?
I am! I have seen almost the entire tournament, which makes me so so so happy.
I'm glad. I know you cover Auburn because it is your job (and hopefully you love her a little) but I am glad you are getting to do the World Cup blog since it is something you love. It's like a little gift for a job well done.
Okay so if Lee gets the Outland award, will they actually announce it the day before?
And I apologize for that, it's awesome that they're looking at him for that award. But sometimes it's just easy.
By the way if Lee DOES get the Outland Trophy, Auburn's looking at an SEC championship in my opinion.
Okay on second thought, maybe its gonna take a little more than Lee winning the Outland.
But if Lee wins the Outland, Craig wins the Nagurski, and Cam wins the Heisman. I think we'd probably be getting there.
Hey Michael,
Can you email me? My address is on my profile. Thanks.
I'm really glad to see Stevens get some credit for his hard work. Ziemba, I expected to see on some watch lists.
Thanks for the sucstance. In my opinion they are both very deserving. 7-0 was that an American Football score by mistake. I watched part of that game and it was not very pretty for N. Korea.
Chris Low has a very interesting article about the sabanator. Not really newsworthy but interesting.
I love football substance!!! I also think one would be hard pressed to find anything sillier than pre-season honors.
Michael is selling his wife?figures.
I just can't get enough of Lane Kiffikin
Nice Buckethead pic sig Jay G.
Auburn's Back To The Future Offense Makes Them One of 2010's Most Interesting Teams includes video analysis (using last season) of how Malzahn's offense is designed to confuse defense.
Anyone here go to the bunker on rivals, a lot of their posters are mean. There is a time to step away from the computer if you ask me.
not me BigEZ. I'm too cheap to pay for information. Except for that $19.95 DL had me send in so I could read HABOTN.
In other news...
Here's an article about AU's newest (and next great?) swimmer.
THT,
Awesome articles. Thank you for posting. I see now why it is so important to Malzahn to keep the same personnel in - it really will cause even more confusion.
Loved the article on the swimmer. He sounds like a great Auburn man in the making.
You're very welcome, Cincytiger. I'm just surfing around looking for AU news.
Homer - Thanks for the pop-in substance. Nice to see these guys getting some well-deserved attention.
After F4* and Hot Wife got home from the neighbors/bike donors this afternoon, we headed out. A trip to Target, some dinner, some assembly and now F4* has his second new bike in less than 5 days. Hopefully Hot Wife can avoid running over this one for a bit.
THT, thanks for the links. I knew we played the walmartians well but I didn't realize just how silly Malzahn's offense made $aban the great's defense look. Man that was funny.
very cool stuff on our offense THT.
Just wondering though, if this catches on with other SEC teams, how do you defend against it? Do you play it like you would a triple option or whatever it is that Ga Tech does? is there such a thing as man to man? Just wondering.
mytommyd - You defend it like Kentucky did.
C. Low is posting the top 25 players in the SEC for 2010. Darvin Adams is #17. If Julio makes the top ten then that list is a joke. He can't catch.
or LSU?
So I guess the only way to plan a defense against it, is to hope that the team running that offense has a dinged up quarterback.
Cool - stay healthy Cam! We win!
I've missed you guys!!
And, will be missing more of you...
I'm shipping out to the Gulf tomorrow for 2 weeks of oil spill response duties (0 days off). 12+ hour days of walking the beaches supervising clean-up activities. It's gonna be hot...
Miller you are too old to be getting drunk and having to do community service.
CHB, you'd better get ready to be disappointed.
Vincent "Bo" Jackson
CEO/Philanthropist
I guess Ziemba would be the out of the gate early favorite to win, right?
Miller, I've been a bit surprised you haven't already been down there.
Seriously though, congrats to both for being on the watch list.
How dare you, RK, criticize Ziemba!
Chris Low asked me a few weeks back to name Auburn's most valuable player.
He said Stevens.
I said Ziemba. My thinking was this: Auburn sorta can fill Stevens' spot. Who's going to play left tackle? Don't tell me Gayden or Brandon Mosley.
Many of my co-workers have been down there back and forth since this thing began... tomorrow starts my turn on the rotation.
I hope I don't stroke out while down there.
As long as Ziemba doesn't show up for the awards luncheon at 10:30.
What's ludicrous is ryan pugh is not on the remmington watch list. 38 centers are and he is not one of them.... insanity.
Wasn't one of those two a left tackle previously?
whoa! Ron Mexico sighting! How cool is that?!
JGT - I agree with you re: Ziemba vs Stevens... or Ziemba vs anyone else for that matter.
Just trying to bring some substance to the trophy watch list talk, THT. Ziemba has been the most irreplacable player on our team for three years now. People don't realize how huge it has been for him to play all those games in a row. This is the first year we have had a back up that look like a tackle in a while.
Ron Mexico speaks the truth.
I can't wait for Ziemba to pancake a bunch of bammers in November.
Michael,
Are you looking for a job just because Obama cut funding? WHah! Find funding. Hell, keep the program going by yourself. Some rich person will eventually offer lots of money. Why don't you e-mail that British dude that owns that record company. I hear he wants your kind.
I still think AU has the best OL in the SEC.
and I still hate UA-T. It's about time for me to slip into some hate-filled dreams.
So the 'Noles eliminated the Gators from CWS today. HABOTN Franchise Player must be happy.
In honor of Ron Mexico's post ...
Yo concurro.
Ziemba is the irreplaceable one.
oops, can dream yet. Just realized I haven't finished my diet coke.
Clempson won today over Ariz St. My favorite Texas team, TCU, is currently behind the woodshed, absorbing a whipping from UCLA.
That's why English should be our official language. I have no idea what Jet just said.
PF, it's true, if I sold every one of my genetically altered goats, I could continue funding Constellation. But I could never sell Mindy. That goat is like family. And besides, I wouldn't have any collateral left if I sold the goats. I need collateral, man.
Bon soir, Monsieur Jet.
There's a plea for help on Facebook. I joined it months ago, because I am sad that it's leaving. I don't think the Facebook group has as much influence as goats, though.
ehyou likes this
Night hot ones. And the first early morning poster will be:
THT!
Rise and shine, Hotties!
74 Rocking days til kickoff!
GO TIGERS!!!
WARRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Helllooooooooooooo?
74 rocking days, very good THT. Morning hot ones!
So, all of the football signees are there except for one dude (plus Shon Coleman and Jeremy Richardson, who were not expected), as well as half of the basketball signees. Cool....Basketball dudes better get it together and get qualified. Who allowed them to play around like this and not get things done?
Morning all.
G, you said I would be disappointed. Why does everyone think Julio is so good? What has he done. There were 4-5 WRs I would take over him.
CH=B sent a request using Farmville. I need some goats.
Farmville is gay. Needing goats is not. Interesting.
Cardinals were wearing awesome stirrups last night. You'd never know it, though, because almost all of the players nowadays are wearing those stupid long, baggy pants.
John Cleese rants - Soccer vs FootballE
This is good IMO.
Good if you like homofascists opinions....and there is more advertising (including beer commercials) in soccer.
CH=B- You are kidding yourself by saying their are 4-5 wr's you would take over him. AJ Greene is at top of the list and then I think Adams / Jones are about equal. Give me the other 2-3 you find better?
PF- There is, but you don't stop the action to see the commercial. I just found it entertaining.
I think you're a Eurosnob ninny, but I won't hold that against you...today.
we're broadcasting live from a computerless closet at a BuyMore satellite facility where I work 2 or 3 mornings/yr. Unlike prison, at least I can have my crappy phone here. I'll be finishing the morning at the SuperCenter before leaving for the day at 12:30. Y'all know what that means?
It means a bacon cb, fries, and diet fountain cherry coke at Sutton's Drug Store this afternoon!!!
Yes...I've advanced from being just a ninny to a Eurosnob Ninny. Surely that is a class above Ninny?!?!?!?!
THT ...you're a role model. It's comforting to know that other folks consider food choices when planning daily activities. Ms. Hoopie on the other hand doesn't understand those type priorities.
Eddie ..congrats on the elevated status to Eurosnob Ninny. Don't think I've ever heard that title previously.
CHB ....Hulio has all the tools and no heart. Bammers and much of the press won't see that. He will most likely produce significant numbers this year and therefore, get accolades. I too, would pick several others over him.
I realize that the following occurred in HS, but when Foley played Prattville in the HS playoffs, 2 Prattville players leveled Hulio on the first play from scrimmage. Hulio just went through the motions for the rest of the game. No heart.
I wish Julio hadn't been playing during the fourth quarter against us last year.
Just sayin'.
Priiivate eyes, they're watching youuuu.
thanks, Hoopie. I try to set a good example on how to take advantage of afternoons off for culinary treats.
SOCCER
any of you WC fans hoping the frogs get shut out again today?
As much as I like a lot of the French players on their respective club teams, I hope they lose today.
War Damn Bafona Bafona
Ebro ...Hulio does big time stuff when it suits his situation. Hulio will get his shot in the pros and maybe he is saving his body for the money. Day in and out I'll take good talent with heart on my team over unused great potential.
DaRick Rogers(#2 WR recruit) from Calhoun,Ga. is the similar to Hulio. Last season against Cartersville he loafed 99% of the game ..never blocked downfield ...but then woke up and made 2 incredible 4th qtr catch/runs to win the game. If he had blocked earlier in the game, those 4th qtr heroics wouldn't have been needed.
No heart.
the problem was no one spun his helmet around on him during the last ditch drive. wholio does seem like a big creampuff if things don't go his way. his circumstances remind me a lot of jamarcus russell. bmoc in high school, bmoc in college. he can get away on pure ability at those levels. wait until an nfl safety hits him like the best college linebacker he's ever seen. then wait until an nfl lb hits him. i also doubt he's going to be up for the nfl rookie treatment of carrying the bags and going to get the beer and pizza at 1 am either.
mmmmm. 1am pizza.
oh yeah, wholio was also bought and paid for by $aban just like jamarcus.
Surely Lil Nicky wouldn't resort to Bear tactics?
it's time for...
PF- I'll take the 1 am beer.
i hope his fellow nfl players deliver a full metal jacket-type beatdown with some bars of soap when he refuses to wake up early and make sure the right guard has his fruit loops waiting on him when he wakes up. that type of beatdown couldn't work on jamarcus. his gut was/is too big...
sorry, Scottie B. I wasted too much time trying to make it special.
1 am beer is overkill. I've usually had plenty by then. I'll take it, I just don't need it. The 1am pizza, though, is usually like nectar from the gods.
$aban actually opened the desk drawer in his office and stumbled upon bahr's book "how to cheat and win and look good doing it". fortunately, dubose and shula never looked in that desk drawer. i have to assume $aban shared a copy of bahr's book with mr. carroll when they famously visited last summer.
pf, if you could send wholio for 1 am beer, i think you would "need" it.
i'd rather have some leftover pad thai or other thai dish at 1 a.m.
Hoops...Living in the Noog and keeping up with area high school football (Calhoun qualifies as part of our regional coverage), I kept up with Rogers a bit, and remember watching a little bit of him in the state title game and thinking the same thing. He looked disinterested.
Maybe that's common for a lot of high school players who are heading to big programs, though. I wouldn't know. Jacquez Smith from my alma mata (Ooltewah) was the first big time recruit from my old high school to go somewhere substantial (Tennessee). He brought it during the regular season, but then got suspended during the first round of the playoffs and we lost.
Bottom line. Other than him, I don't have a lot of experience with keeping up with a big time recruit and what he's doing game by game
no news at tigerland.com
I'm tired of waiting. Put the pads on NOW!!!
Go Bafana Bafana.
And everyone else who's talking about soccer head over to the Jay's World Cup blog so I can keep HABOTNing throughout the day.
Pretty please...
1am Thai is not a good idea for me. I order everything "thai hot," and I don't find late night peppers to be smart...especially if I've been drinking and could possibly regurgitate my food. You think it burns going down!!!
Mexica and Uruguay are tied at 0-0 to begin the game.
i'm too ignorant to be posting on a "real football" blog.
You are posting on a real football blog. You're American, aren't you?
that's hilarious, PF. I wash Thai food down with a big bowl of ice cream, squelches any fire before it gets started. Of course, I rarely eat the really hot stuff. That's 2.0's favorite.
Absolutely, PF, hence the sarcastic quotation marks. Well, I couldn't find the sarcastic question mark key, so I used regular quotation marks, but the intent was there.
questions and quotations, they're apparently all the same to me.
SOCCER
wow. I can't believe France just walked off the field! Sort of like in WWI...and WWII.
Wait, what? Today?
E-Bro - would there have been an ounce of believability in my 9:14 post if I had referred to it as a "pitch"?
The video in the Sporting News article noted above is excellent, not only for the analysis, but mainly because Saban loses his mind after that one particular play. Bama fans had better be glad it is not possible for a human to spontaneously combust due to anger, because if it WAS possible, he would have disappeared in a puff of smoke. Poof baby.
And when you sit down to do your busnez you scream come on icecreeeeem.
Good article on Dyer:
http://auburn.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1096443
Thanks, Kathy! That's just what I needed!!!
WARRRRRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Kathy,
Thank you for that article. I am getting so excited about the season!!
And, in response to your post the other day, yes, Tylerson gets around!!
Kathy - really good article keeps us going until FOOTBALL SEASON.
Go Tigers and War Eagle.
THT...absolutely. I think there might have been some talk about some French players refusing to play today.
As an aside, a little history humor for you...
What do you call five hundred thousand people with their hands in the air standing around in Paris?
...
The French Army.
Okay, a question for all the techies out there. I'm planning on picking up a Droid on Friday. I'm happy not to pay the extra money and just get the Motorola Droid.
Any reason I should talk myself into an Incredible?
The only reason is if you, like me, must have a slide out keyboard. Otherwise, pay the extra dough. It's worth it. Much better phone.
*have to have
"Dyer is expected to make an immediate impact this season..."
So was Bryce Brown at TN last year.
It was so much easier for me to keep expectations under control before the days of the world wide web.
Dyer is not the diva Bryce Brown is.
E-Bro - stick with the Droid so there will be one more Incredible on the shelf if I ever get the courage up to go.
Yeah, I'm pretty impartial to having a slide out keyboard.
Despite the lack of the keyboard, what makes the Incredible so much better than the Motorola?
THT...I just might.
very true, PF. And for that, I am very grateful.
Still...he has ZERO career rushing yards at Auburn. So to this point, he's been a bust ;-)
I liked this quote from Dyer: "I didn't come all this way to just play. I'm going to play harder."
Pure Speed. Snapdragon processor destroys the TI OMAP 3630.
Kathy - STOP IT! You'll have me thinking we're going 14-0. I need my poormouthing attitude for us to have a great season!
Also, is a little more stable with Android 2.1, and will certainly be more stable with 2.2. You will want the extra processing speed for sure when that is released on Verizon phones.
PF's tech response a little more helpful than my "because it's so cool!"
Thansk for the feedback, Pete.
Regardless, the keyboard thing is enough of a hiccup for you stick with a regular Droid?
THT...at least I understood what you said.
I like a real keyboard. But, isn't the Droid keyboard the one I went and looked at a while back and decided it was such a crappy design that I'd be better off with a the touchscreen keyboard?
Tylerson likes the Incredible's touch screen better, but he is coming from having an iphone. He also said Incredible has better hardware and is smaller, which he likes.
A buddy of mine likes the regular Droid keyboard just fine. Prefers it actually.
Dyer is also not going to be in the same offense Bryce Brown was asked to produce.
My goodness, I just had a quick thought about all the horses that we could have running in that offense: That veteran O line, a no drop receiving corps, a giant agile QB, and a set of change of pace backs from power to quick and speedy all in at the same time. If Gus can get them to run at the speed he wants, this could be an incredible thing to watch.
E-bro, I'm not sure. I'm using the Samsung Moment right now because of the keyboard thing. I recently was able to demo an HTC Evo (best.phone.ever!!!!!!) for a half day. It doesn't have a keyboard, but I think I will be switching at some point soon, because, as THT says about the Incredible, it's so cool. The Incredible is not the EVO, though, so it'd be a little harder for me to do give up the keyboard for it, but I'd still give it a look. Go to a store with live phones and spend some time with them.
Between THT's earlier vid post about Malzahn's offense, and Kathy's find on Dyer, yeah I'm ready.
Yeah, I plan to on Friday when I'll make my ultimate decision, but wanted to get some early recon before doing so.
It seems so far that the Yays have it for the Incredible.
will y'all promise not to tell if I try to sneak out of here around twelve o'fivish instead of twelve thirty?
Your secret is safe with us.
woohooo, I'm ready for my diet cherry coke and cheeseburger
Go South Africa!
WAR EAGLE!!!!
THT,
Looks like you have company for lunch.
PF ...
At 946, you said Dyer is not the diva that Bryce Brown is. That's what I'm hanging my hat on.
I'm not creating the expectation that Dyer will be the starter in week 3 and rush for 1,000 yards. My expectation is that he can contribute and be a patient learner. I fear we may need him sooner rather than later.
Indeed, I do!
Jet, are you concerned about fannin's durability? I sure am. I harken back to the bowl game when his shoulder got whacked. I keep seeing him trying in vain to make a catch with one arm because he seemed unable to lift the arm. Love the effort, but it seems like he had shoulder problems for a while. That (coupled with the Tate factor) seemed to be part of the reasoning for moving him him out to space last year. A few good SEC whacks to that shoulder again and do we have a one armed RB again?
It would be really nice if LGGB would join us for lunch.
Baldy ...
My concerns:
1. Ball security
2. Durability
I want our punt and KO coverage to rank in top 3 in conference, and no TOs on our kick return teams.
Am I asking too much?
I'm so hungry, I'm no use here anymore. Pardon me while I slip out the back door.
I think he had a really good spring re: fumbles. Hopefully that carries over into the fall.
That Sporting News article and video were interesting. Thanks, THT!
Re: Mario - can these stats be right?
Mario Stats
you're very welcome Choco.
we're on the way to Sutton's! Yummmiiieeeee!!!
Eddie, Hoopie made my point for me. Julio has all of the potential in the world. That meant something when he was coming out of HS but after two yrs in college he hasn't produced. I don't think the guy has good hands, I think he is complaining crybaby and I think he goes through the motions a lot. Basically he is the next T.O. Now would I take a chance on him, yes, but I would like to have some others before him. The media has fallen all over him and made him the most hyped player in college football.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/352401-sec-power-rankings-ranking-the-top-12-receivers-for-2010#page/13
I know this article is from Bleacher Report so take it how you want. I thought it was a good list though and had good arguments.
Ebro ..after watching Rogers in that HS game, I asked around about him. My real estate partners and some other acquaintances are from Calhoun and all agreed that it was common knowledge that Rogers was a slacker.
The rest of the story:
Rogers changed from a UGA commit to UT on NSD because his HS QB committed to UT and that Qb's family could continue to take care of Rogers and keep him out of trouble. That story has about 80% positive and 20% negative associated with it. Things were arranged prior to the UT commit, so that the NCAA wouldn't have a case or UT have knowledge, but the kid is now comfortable.
ebro...
Are you gonna try to make it through the day tomorrow ignorant of the US score? If so, that's a true challenge indeed.
It's no biggie, ehyou, I go through everyday ignorant.
Oh, ignorant of the US soccer score. Nevermind.
TommyD ...
The yardage is ... the fumbles aren't.
I know of three from the South Florida game, one from the Arkansas game last year and at least four other occasions when he fumbled the ball out of bounds or to a teammate.
He's explosive, but like explosives, he's volatile.
CBS says Fannin has 8 fumbles in his career, 5 lost.
4 fumbles in '07 (3 lost), 1 fumble in '08 (1 lost) and 3 in '09 (1 lost).
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1244927
His touches will go up significantly this year though.
Miller, be careful down at the Gulf. It's gonna be rather warm and humid. Stay hydrated.
Okay, for a second I thought I was going crazy. It's interesting that ESPN of all folks got that wrong. If I really cared enough they probably show that Ingram carried the ball for 3000yds last year and thats how he got his trophy.
Thanks for checking on that gang
You know what song I absolutely hate? "Poetry Man" by Phoebe Snow.
Wait, that's not a complete list by any stretch. Also hated from that same general time period "Lovin' You" by Minnie Riperton.
There are others but those are a couple of longstanding entries on the list.
Keep Hate Alive!
Was at Sandestin last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Played in a scramble Friday at the Links. It was ungodly hot and humid for the first six holes, but the cloud cover moved in and the cart chicas kept us plied with Powerade and water.
Listen to Hoopie, Miller, he's pre-med.
I thought he was pre-law?
What's the difference?
norm...
Lovin' You has ruptured more than one ear drum in it's time me thinks.
Lovin' Norm is easy because he's beautiful.
I think it was mighty nice of JET to set that one up for us so that you and I could take it down so quickly and easily. That's nice teamwork right there boys.
Norm,
That comes from years of playing together ... of having a sixth sense of knowing where each other is.
How can you be hatin' on "Lovin' You"?
cincy - easy. It's a despicable, nausea-inducing piece of garbage.
And that's some of the nicer things that can be said about it.
Furthermore, it doesn't have a good beat, and you can't dance to it.
I give it a 37.
ehyou...To answer your question from earlier:
No. I don't plan on trying to make it through the day tomorrow without finding out the US score. I'd love to take off of work and watch, but I can't really afford to tomorrow. And I don't really want to try and mess with avoiding the score all day, but more than that, I want to know what is happening with the US while it is happening.
So I'll be keeping up with that one live. If it turns out how I hope it will, I'll still watch it on my DVR when I get home and celebrate as though I'm seeing it for the first time.
Muskrat Love ...Capt and Tenelle
Up on the Roof ....James Taylor
Either one cause an immediate GAK reaction.
Well, now I know how you really feel about it. I like it, but maybe because I have really good memories from that time of my life.
"You have 'British teeth'", she says. "There's the gap in front, they're yellowish, not really gruesome, but less than attractive."
she=2.0
you = name undisclosed.
Poor "name undisclosed".
long and narrow, somewhat translucent.
I believe those were some descriptive terms I forgot to quote.
tht - is this an exchange between 2.0 and her boyfriend?
She's a maneater.
Watch out boy, she'll chew you up!
2:27
That's what she said.
She definitely said that.
Hoopie ...
It is sad that a good Auburn girl Toni Tennille unleashed such hell upon the world of music.
At least she sang backup on The Wall.
Jet ..out of respect for her alma mater, I almost listed "Having my Baby" instead.
OK, "Having My Baby" is definitely as Norm put it, "a despicable, nausea-inducing piece of garbage."
Aaron Neville is my #1 cringe inducer.
The '70's certainly produced a good bit of crap. That said, XM's '70's Channel is one of my presets.
I don't know much...
...but I know I love you-uuuuu.
...
Awkward...
I'll tell you this much, Bette Midler did that song 100% better than Neville. That said, I'm not really a fan of hers either.
Time to cock the revolver. I smell a page turn (boom) coming.
Time for the Bellsouth call to the bullpen.
We want Norm!!
We want Norm!!
We want Norm!!
Ebro
Wake up.
I'm up. I'm up.
What happened?
