Maligned former trainer lands on his feet

Hey everyone. I was surprised today to learn that Tommy Tuberville, now of Texas Tech fame, has hired Arnold Gamber to be his head athletic trainer.

You may recall that Gamber worked at Auburn from 1999-2009. His image was tarnished after allegations surfaced that he played a key role in Chaz Ramsey's physical problems -- or the lack of attention paid to them. That lawsuit remains on track for a February trial.

Evan Woodbery slyly learned in late June that former offensive line coach Hugh Nall has been dropped from the suit. Gamber has not.

Odd choice? I'd say so.

A 16 year old won a $1 mil settlement against her parents because they changed her Facebook password. Based on that lunacy, a judge will surely(and wrongly) hold a football coach/trainer accountable for causing a player to be injured during rehab.

I'm also guessing that hold harmless clause in the student-athletes scholly contract won't mean anything to the judge.

The need for legal system reform is doing more harm to this nation than the need for healthcare system.

I like D Wade. Hate the bron. Disappointing to see him make the move down south and ruin a potential struggle between NY and Miami, and also ruin the chances that Wade hits ring #2. Everyone knows bron bron will never win a ring because he's all hype and no finish. Then again he's never had a supporting cast like this.

On the previous thread: I'll up Jay's ante and say that CM2 will be everything Auburn fans expect him to be. He will not miss the dink and dunk routes like we've seen sparsely since '06. He will miss the occasional long ball because he's not Ryan Mallet or Kiehl Frazier (hello 2013/14 AP title), but he will truck. He will create plays and be the ultimate play maker on this team. He defines leadership, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Call me crazy, but I earnestly believe the possibilities are endless.

In that statement, I meant starting sparsely in '06, and continuously growing since. We've had a major problem with completing the passes on our check off routes.

Rumor floating out of Knoxville that there was a big bar brawl last night involving UT players, including Janzen Jackson. Saying they almost beat a cop to death.

Have to see where this one goes.

missinit - that's funny! I'm almost jealous. Except I greatly prefer my AU plates (with 4 character limit) to MR MAPS 1.

One year I did have OLDMAPS on my NC plate, but I refused to pay the vanity fee the next year since all you get is a renewal sticker to put in the corner of the plate. I think a vanity plate fee should only be for making the plate. There is no "vanity sticker" and there should be no fee for such.

8:35 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

bar co-owner "We had all the UT football players come in. They’re on a first-name basis with my husband (and co-owner), and they get VIP status, which means they pay no cover at the door."

Unless all UT-Knox students get in free, wouldn't that be a violation of NCAA rules?

9:03 AM

Yup ...seems like Da'Rick blew up quicker than even Ol' Hoopie would have predicted. If Da'Rick gets booted will his HS QB co-recruit buddy be far behind? Daddy's money may not be able to fix this.

Ebro ..good question on CDD ..what will he do?

Ronnie Brown was given opportunity by several local folks and respectfully accepted the responsibility that comes with it. Da'Rick has a bad attitude about many things and that attitute is amplified by a thug obsession.

9:08 AM

I used to play a pretty fair amount of tennis back in the day too. I'm sure I was excellent. I'm also sure given the timeframe that I had some of those blasted extra short pants.

Tennis is apparently a pretty big deal here in the greater-ATL area. Our neighborhood is small-to-average sized and has at least 4 tennis teams. They have lots of tournament plaques around the courts. It's been probably 20 years since I picked up a racket with any seriousness and from what I've seen I could walk on the court and beat most of those folks tomorrow. The other handful may beat me, but they'd know they'd been challenged.

These days, my experience with tennis consists of moving the vehicles out of the garage and playing a game with F4*. I bounce the ball over to him and he hauls off and whollops it with the racket right at me while I turn away from the ball so it doesn't hit me square in the face further screwing up my already hosed up vision. He loves it. That boy can knock the fool out of a ball.

actually, I went to the one in Mtn Brook, not the 280. Eaten at the one in ATL a zillion times and the one (by different name) in Durham 3 zillion times.

ch - I also like their peanut sauce (e.g. chicken satay) as much or better than any other Thai peanut sauce I've had, but if they follow the standard Surin formula, the basil rolls must be had. LGGB really loves the Surin baskets. I would too if they didn't have tiny bits of onions. We usually load up on appetizers and have 1/2 our main course the next day at home.

Okay, Jay has revealed one player of the five he is watching. Any guess on the identity of the other four. Cam Newton was a gimme.

Who am I interested in? Fannin, Eric Smith, LaDarius Phillips (yea, really, he could be the short yardage guy), Daren Bates, DeAngelo Benton, Blake, Fairley, Savage, Etheridge. Okay, I couldn't cut it down to four.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

my guesses are D'Antoine Hood, Dontae Aycock, Tyrik Rollison, and maybe Eric Smith.

After Cam, who am I watching for 2010? The critical unknown situations:

Bates- Need him at LB and surgery recovery

Savage- Injury recovery-need dbs
Etheridge- Injury recovery-need dbs

McCalebb-get his speed back
Dyer- typical or sensational frosh?

Fairly/Clayton- Can they take it to the next level?

2nd team OL/LB--need experience for 2011.

We got plenty of WRs and are ok at DE.

Dyer will be great to see and will definitely get some playing time, but I am very interested in seeing how Lattimore does at South Carolina. I have seen predictions he will be one of the better running backs in the SEC right off the bat. My guess is he quickly realizes that a good offensive line would have made a huge difference.

I love all this football talk. Makes it feel like we are getting close.

I almost made it through a week of boot camp without an injury. Alas, I tweaked my adductor muscle (at least that is what I think it is. The one that connects your inner thigh to your pelvis.) Mr. Cincy will not be happy about that injury :^) Hoping it is just a tweak and will be healed by Monday because we have to run a timed mile then. I know some of you run like a gazillion miles forty times a week, but before starting this boot camp, I haven't run since college!

It's not an individual player, but special teams are an area that should be watched very closely.

I'm going to be the biggest loser in our family... not in weight but in the competition. All the folks at BuyMore South brought food today. These "Mexican spring rolls" are da bomb!

absolutely, WERK. We simply must field punts more securely and drastically improve our kick coverage.

so maybe you could add Boulware as one of the 5 to watch?

I don't think you can really blame Boulware too much for the special teams. Both Chizik and Troop were also working with them. I expect significant improvement there with a lot of incoming freshmen playing, especially LBs and WRs.

2:32 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Also, can we get back to back seasons of solid FG kicking.

2:34 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

if not, we'll have a kicker on a stick!

I read an article earlier today that said we had problems with defense last season. I do appreciate people that catch on so quickly.

2:36 PM
Blogger Honey said...

I do expect to see the most improvement on our special teams. Of course, they have no where to go but up.

2:38 PM

Cincy,

You are right about no where to go but up. That is one of the reasons I think we will have a great year. We did really well last year with all of the issues with depth and out D/special teams played poorly at times. Our offense will be as good or better, so with a little improvement in other areas it only stands to reason our record will improve.

I hate that Nall was dismissed. What he, Gamber and Tubby did to that kid bordered on the criminal. And he is a genuinely good young man, too.

Miss you, Jay G.

I watched some of the UT bar brawl TV videos posted by JG's future comrade ..Chris Low.

It occurred to me that these under-aged kids were in a bar and were arrested. MIP(minor in possession) was not one of the charges. Certainly if these kids had been drinking they would have been charged. Is it a positive that they weren't drinking? ....or is that insignificant and it is just awful no matter what that they were brawling?

That is less than two months. We need to celebrate somehow. I am really looking forward to media days too, although you must admit that Chizik is not nearly as likely to make an entertaining statement as our previous head coach.

6:56 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm not sure how/why I find media days even remotely entertaining....it's got to be JGT who makes it so. I've never seen people use so many words to avoid saying anything as do the HCs at media days. If JGT wasn't there to put his spin on it, it wouldn't be worth 2 seconds of my time.

hey, there's a flip on the horizon. Somebody tweet Norm.

Media days is the time where players and coaches are given the opportunity to say something stupid. It is always interesting to see who takes the opportunity to do so.
