Jay Jacobs speaks ... very briefly.
The athletic director was intercepted as he left the building tonight. He seemed surprised that reporters would spend their time waiting for such an opportunity. I'm surprised that he's surprised.
JACOBS: Tommy and I met this morning. We'll meet again over the next couple of days. I'll let you know how it goes. That's really it.
Are you aiming for resolution this week?
JACOBS: Yes, I'd like to be.
Is it a realistic expectation to think you'll finish it this week?
JACOBS: We'll just have to see.
Are you concerned that the openendedness is hurting the program?
JACOBS: (No verbal response.)

Could Jacobs be any more out of touch to be surprised?
Nine hours.
perhaps "out of the loop" would be more apt, ms. k.
How could all this bode well for Tubs return? I just don't see it.
Also, are there any truths to the Tubs personal issues that keep popping up all over the place. I don't think that could ever be the case.
Riveting stuff there...
Was the "no verbal repsonse" the same non verbal response that wifey give to amos? If so, ouch...
9 hours? cryptic, baby.
It looked like the Keystone Beer sour-face guy. Do you all remember that commercial?
Scottie ... I waited nine hours for that.
I feel shame.
Hmmm...that doesn't sound like Tuberville is standing on especially solid ground. I don't take it to mean that Tuberville is likely out, but those comments from Jacobs are not comments that make sense if Tuberville's return is assured.
Just think Jay, 9 more hours of this tomorrow. May want to get Guitar hero for your Iphone.
How about "do you CARE that the open endedness is hurting the program?" Ask him that Jay!
Even if they fire CTT, do we really trust these guys to do what is best for AU?? How could they possibly make a good decision with a coaching hire after so many boneheaded ones???
My granddaddy use to say "Crap rolls down hill!" We seem to have a lot of that at the top of our hill.
The first thing I do when I win the lottery is buy Jacobs a clue!
How could he be surprised?!?! I like how he has no verbal response about this hurting the program.
So, are there any OC candidates out there who could possibly step in to a head coach's position say...within a year? Maybe they are negotiating some head coach in waiting thing.
Just curious since if CTT does in fact stay, he will be on notice. And what OC would want to come into a position where he may be swept out with the trash after one year unless he had assurances...
Just my random, unsubstantiated thought of the day.
I asked the same thing the other day Kristina. Going to be hard to get an OC here with Tommy's uncertainty.
Bitter Beer Face!!!!
Jacobs is more of a pawn than Dooley's Damon Evans.
I remember Keystone beer and the "glass lined" cans.
I remember being very very sick from drinking said beer and having my own sour face.
Jay Jacobs in a position of authority = FAIL.
Kristina- I believe Tubs would demand his $6 million before that happens.
Nine hours in Auburn is better than zero hours away. But yeah, that sucks. What does he mean by all that?
I wouldn't be more surprised if I woke up in the morning with my head sewn to the carpet.
Maybe that is what is taking so long, eddie. Since they wouldnt actually be firing him, he wouldnt be entitled to the buy out, would he? They are just setting up a replacement should things not go well next year. And if things do go well, then the dude can stick around a few years. Like I said, just a thought with nothng to support it...
9 hrs of waiting for a 'bitter beer face'? ouch dude.
think how bad it's going to suck when you're doing that the next two days and your HABOTN t-shirt package with 'bonus' feature is chillin' on the front porch? yeah, that's gotta hurt.
how many peeps were in your posse that corralled Jacobs? bet yall scared the crap out of him.
I'm not sure if anybody really knows what is going on.
strong work, jay g. i just wonder if they aren't working on the buy out and shopping around parts of the contract. wouldn't you like to go to the egg bowl if ctt is coaching miss. st.?
A year ago, the long wait meant they were reworking the deal.
This year, the long wait means they are undoing the deal. So, therefore, I believe that TT is toast.
And I trust these guys to hire a good coach as they did in 1981, 1993 and, yes, 1999.
Coaches are like milk. They have expiration dates. Tommy's just passed.
It's OK. We'll be fine. Embrace change.
He was unsettled.
i can see jet grabbing the guitar out of jacobs' hands as he is playing "tommy row the boat ashore" and smashing it against a wall.
I gave my love a rose that had no thorns ...
Jay,
He made THIS face?
Jet's worn a toga in his time, too.
Yep. He made that face and didn't want to answer the question.
SMASH! CRASH! BASH!
Sorry.
i tried my 1st kestone (light) when it was offered to my dad and myself at a uk game. guy seemed really proud of his beer. we gave him a miller light in exchange. he wasn't gone 2 minutes before our keystones were soaking into the blue grass. miserable stuff--and i'm not picky, obviously.
If Tommy stays, I may have to crank up the "Eat Me" Cake/Delta Deathmobile and wreck the parade.
So, in the mean time, our hard working assistant coaches are out recruiting kids when they know they will not be at Auburn come 2009? We may lose them all to their other offers (Southern Miss, Memphis, Troy...)
Maybe he thought openendedness meant something entirely different.
Anon ... my guess the next time Jay and the media pack gets a shot at JJ or Gogue, the answer will be known.
Jay ...
Do you believe that the power brokers, for the most part, want TT gone? Where is Gogue in all of this?
Stands to reason if he's bumping heads, he's playing for his job, too.
That... is just disappointing. I don't know what else to say.
There is no way that Gogue job will be in danger immediately because of this. SACS would be all over this.
I just gave yet another "Anonymous" the Cecil Fielder treatment.
Don't mouth off after I've been here all day. These are questions I considered appropriate. If you don't like them, there are other blogs for you to peruse.
Go give 'em hell. Make them listen.
my dad coaches at a high school in Alabama that has a player committed to AU...an AU assistant was there today saying that the assistants that weren't out recruiting wouldn't be back (which was all of the offensive coaches).
Eddie ... I think the key word you used is "immediately."
Jay,
They should give y'all a cot or something...
I'm not dumb, I know how things work at Auburn for sure. I think Gogue role in all of this is to defer to JJ, his AD. JMHO.
Anyone want to chat on Chatroll? I'm on there now.
i think his role and that of jj is to derfer to the ptb.
meant "defer"
Boom. Two over the fence.
I wouldn't read to much into Jacob's lack or response. My guess is that what he wanted to say wouldn't have been politically correct so he didn't say it. For those of you wondering what it was he wanted to say: "Do you think it could hurt any worse than this last football season"?
That was a fat pitch right over the middle
I'm in the mood for moon shots.
As much as I dislike Jurich purely for selfish and personal reasons, he is the type of AD Auburn needs to achieve consistant greatness in all sports.
This comment has been removed by the author.
As for whether Tubbs will be here, I feel pretty certain he will be returning. I also feel like this is a multi-day raking over the coals. I don't think Tuberville is dictating terms now and the statements he made Sunday seem to indicate someone in a weak position. It almost sounded as if he was doing his Mike Shula impression. He is all eager to get out there and fix this and he knows what....yadda yadda yadda. My guess is he will be back, but it will be with a modified contract.
Three for me. Yay.
Don't look now Hotties, Jay just got himself a hat trick.
He'll have to register to make the next one.
agree with steve
I was wondering how long before you made it registration only tonight. But how will we know what George is up to ;-)
By the way, thanks Scottie for my Hottie t-shirt. I got it out of the mailbox today and it is perfect. I was needing more shirts to go with my sport coat and flip flops. It will blend right in.
Kristina, get yourself over to chatroll...
just picture Jacob's head on a tee screaming at you "you waited nine hours for this" as you swing for the fences Jay G.
Jay G. - Thanks for the commitment. Quick question, since this review is similar to all the reviews that are done after every sport is complete. Did they have this lengthy review process for womens soccer that recently completed its season?
I forgot who it was the other day (maybe it was Hoopie) who said this place was starting to get like the AL.com forums.
If anyone can stomach it, go over there and just read some of the comments below the stories, it'll make you thankful that you have this place to come to.
RK - you will notice that only registered can play now.
I must have missed that.
That makes this place even better.
Seriously, I couldn't believe anyone would compare the HABOTN to AL.com.
agreed, stupid comments.
OMG,
I cant believe JJ is our athletic director.
Jay-G,
Went through the registration process! Are things that Bad?
So Michael died and went to hell. He was met by the devil himself.
“Welcome to hell! I’m delighted to have an Auburn boy here; we get very few of you. Let me show you to your new home!” said the devil.
The devil led Michael by the bammer room. As far as he could see, bammers were being roasted over coals, boiled in pots, and all sorts of other various states of torture. Michael saw Bear Bryant and FSJ in a boiling pot and asked the devil if he could go walk around in that room and watch for a while. “Of course not!” he replied. “That would give you pleasure and no pleasure is allowed in this place. The only reason I got you here is because of all the bammer hate you spewed on the HABOTN.”
The devil finally showed Michael into the Auburn room. It was a very large room, but contained only a few dozen people. “Have fun, my boy!” the devil said with a wicked laugh. He then reached over to the thermostat and set the temp on 110.
The next day the devil came to the Auburn room, and was outraged to see that Michael had organized a softball game. “How can you play softball with it this hot?” he roared. “Come on devil,” said Michael; “this is just like a July day in Auburn. We’re having a great time!” “I’ll fix you!” screamed the devil. With that, he reached over to the thermostat and raised it to 120.
He returned the next day, and was even angrier than before when he discovered that Michael now had them playing a flag football game. “How can you do this?” he screamed? “Aww, devil,” said Michael, “this is just like an August day in Auburn. We love it!”
“Now I understand, you like it hot,” said the devil. “I’ll get you this time!” With that, the devil went to the master thermostat in hell and pushed it down to 50 degrees below zero. The next day hell was completely frozen. All of the fires had gone out and the boiling pots were frozen solid. The demons begged for heat, and the devil himself was freezing in misery. “Give me just a minute,” he said. “I want to see those Auburn people suffering before I turn the heat back on.”
The devil opened the door to the Auburn room and let out a roar that shook all of hell. The Auburn people were having a party! They wear wearing party hats, blowing horns, and tossing confetti. A makeshift band was playing War Eagle, and Michael was dancing with Monica. (Sorry Monica, he has to have a partner) The devil screamed at the top of his voice, “How can you enjoy this? It’s never been 50 below in Auburn?”
“Devil,” said Michael, “take a look around. All of hell is frozen over. Don’t you know what this means?” “No, what does it mean?” said the devil. “It means,” said Michael, “that Auburn just won the National Championship!”
The HABOTN, causing Bitter Beer Face in ADs since 2008.
Jay-G,
I know you're working your A-- off.
Too Bad the AU coaches did't put in that kind of hours during the season!!
Does Jay Jacobs know that Al Gore invented this thing called the INTERNET
For those who were on earlier today, the season premier of According to Jim has 5 minutes left.
Great questions, Jay. I mean, what were you supposed to ask -- how's the wife and kids? Give me a break. You asked what every Auburn fan wants to know.
Damn,
Apparently I missed batting practice.
There was at least one offensive coach out recruiting today, so the theory that coaches not recruiting won't be back doesn't work.
Thanks for all the updates, Jay G.
Yea, sorry about the registration situation.
It'll abate.
I like having new people rolling in. We were all n00bs at one point, you know?
Moving on ...
Just rolled in. This is embarrassing. I think I'm headed over there Wednesday. Maybe I need to take a sign.
Unless Tad that coach is coming back....But anything at this point is sheer speculation and Vulcans do not engage in speculation, so I won't
Spock out-
Dude,
Haven't registered in like 2 years here.
What is the world coming to?
Alan, welcome to the land of registration!
Anyone else feel Jacobs is in way over his head? Is he on the red elephant payroll? Why not just publicly come out and say all recruits should find another school because we are dysfunctional here. We have no clue on how to run an athletic department.
Better yet, someone should suggest he walk over to the business school and ask a freshman marketing student if they way they are handling this is hurting Auburn.
The cover up is worse than the crime.
Where's Ralphie's dad he would know the words to say. Jet maybe you can recall the words when the dogs ate the turkey.
Jay,
Its good to be here. Feels very strange though.
What would krista turner think about all this?
Keep up the good work Jay! Were lucky to have you.
Jacobs continues to fail as an AD and his lack of words over the past few years has continued to make a joke out of our program. After they work out the Coaches deal I would like to see him gone.
Did everyone leave tonight?
I think the sour beer face indicated.....Get a life folks!..It's been 2 working days.
Does anyone really think that recruits are going to jump ship if AU doesn't come out with a ringing endorsement in the first 5 days after the Iron Bowl? The commitment/decommitment carosel will crank up in earnest after the bowls.
Jay is Ganette going to pay you some overtime or holiday pay for all of this??? This is above and beyond the call of duty IMO.
Also, Mr. S and me have been upset that you haven't been making it into HABOTN radio...
I get paid.
Chasing people around is part of the job. We did this in 1998, 2003, 2004 (basketball search), 2007 and 2008.
"Too Bad the AU coaches did't put in that kind of hours during the season!!"
McDaniel,
Despite the 5-7 record during the season, I can almost guarantee the coaches put in some pretty long hours every night. The results sucked, but I'm sure they worked pretty hard.
Responses to unwanted questions:
JJ = sour beer face
Saban = dog cussing the questioner
How about this from ESPN's Forde Dash:
Biggest Free Fall -- Auburn, which went from the preseason top 10 in several polls and magazines to 71st in the latest Sagarin Ratings. That edges out Michigan, Tennessee and Arizona State for biggest bomb of the year.
Pretty telling isn't it?
What are the odds Jacobs sit in his office as long as he could stand it, knowing there were people outside who wanted answers and finally got hungry enough to deal with it for 30 seconds before he got in the car?
Barner Matthews reported that Jacobs said today's meeting "Went Good" Any comments Jay?
I was in the loveliest village today. Not camping out with Jay but enjoying the sights all the same.
When I went to check out of my hotel this morning, at the desk was a woman in a houndstooth baseball cap, a Bammer shirt, and an attitude with two other Bammers in the lobby about how the party is over.
I thought that someone who was that brazen for Auburn in Tuscaloosa would be shot and hauled over the county line but, in Auburn, we could overlook such foolishness. I will say the manager looked a bit embarrassed.
was the trifecta an official 'BANHAMMER' sighting?
i'm gone for 2 hrs and jay's dropping bombs into the left field bleachers. i like it!
nite all. i'll back in the morning for DAY 3 OF THE TUBERVILLE WATCH.
I guess it "went good."
Means nothing to me beyond what you read on the front of this blog.
Coosa,
That's some funny stuff. I am sure it is a joke most have heard but it is a new one on me. Are you having issues with anon posters Jay? Funny thing, I got into a slight argument last night about them...
P.S. Jay - Thanks for putting in the hours to keep this place hot even after the season is over. mad props.
thats what I thought just wondering if there was any more that he may have given auburnsports.
JGT...The only reason you are stalking the AD's office at the close of business is to get a story to satisfy the readers. You are doing your job, which is a "life". I can't find fault with JJ not "expecting" the neurotic fan behavior that must have all answers now.
You asked the him the question that you were supposed to ask...that's OK. I consider it an insult to expect him to answer it. Surely it is not unreasonable for him to "expect" to be respected for doing his job correctly and not answering loaded questions. What happens when someone asks $aban a loaded question? He unloads!
Count your blessings that JJ is a gentleman. May or may not be a very good AD, but in this case I feel he did his job correctly.
Hoopie...Author of The Book of Manners
I'm sure Jay is glad you approved of his question.
He was probably wondering when he asked if Hoopie thought it would be appropriate.
Barkley....
Jay should ask himself WWHD?
Leave Hoopie alone. He is just a nice guy. SHower it on me...I'm a man, I'm 70
OK Denny Crum, you washed up John Wooden wanna be.
Pick on John,,,he's a man, he's 98
Do you think that the theme song for this meeting between Tuberville, Gouge, and Jacobs is Regulate by Warren G...
Regulators, we regulate any stealing of his property. We're damn good too! But, you can't be any geek off the street. You've got to be handy with the steel if you iknow what I mean...
Seriously, if someone told me I could spend a day with any sports figure I wanted, it would be John Wooden. Barkley would be a close second.
Or does Erin Andrews count as a sports figure?
I would like to spend a day with John Wooden. It would be awesome... I would pick Jill Arrington versus Erin Andrews
Erin works for me..
I might consider Jill Arrington if Erin's busy.
I said this earlier, but I really think it might be the best way to go. Tomorrow at 4:59 - flip a quater. Heads he stays, tails he goes.
Phred..
I think Tuberville & Jacobs should play spoons to see if he gets to stay or not.
Paper rock scissors to decide. Best out of 3.
Atlanta traffic sucks. It is like leaving after a big game right now.
I don't think Tub and Jacobs will be spooning anytime soon.
However maybe Jay Gogue could think of a number and then have Tub and Jacobs pick a number and whoever is closest gets what they want.
Jacobs: Tommy, you're an idiot.
TT: I know you are, but what am I?
Rinse, lather, repeat.
More like a game of "Rock-em, Sock-em Robots."
In my sitting in 2 hours of traffic comming in this morning I got to listen to Tony Barnhart blast all of Auburn Fans for even thinking about changing things up. Shame on us.
Eddie ..
I'm a fan of Tony's, but a lot of the time he is el pimpo del coaches.
That's just me.
Funny, I feel no shame.
I agree Jet. He gets a very close relationship with coaches just like I believe Phillip Marshall does, and it somewhat changes the view of how things are seen. I do respect Tony B, but I think he is wrong on this situation.
My only complaint about PMarsh is he never seems to want to speculate on anything. He's pretty much straight facts and accepts what is given to him far too much.
Does that make you a shameful turd to want a coaching change? No wonder I am depressed.
Day 3 of the Tubby watch...does anyone think we'll have ANY answers today?
Agreed RK, that is what I was trying to allude to. Tubs has Phillip ear and he has used it in the past to get out his PR Spin and Phillip just plays along with it. Just my perception. I do like Phillip alot and enjoy reading his work, but I always take what he says on controversial issues with a grain of salt.
Justwin- It depends on what replacement they can find.
I do get joy that this week is taking away from Alabama's SEC Championship game hype.
Someone posted here earlier, probably Tim that all the Offensive coaches were gone and not recruiting. That is not true. It appears for sure that Knox and Nall have been out recruiting.
So you and I are thinking the same way.
I also love the fact that this is taking away from the Bama hype. Bammers are all up in arms after the comments made yesterday on PTI. Love that too!
Anyone read Scarbinsky's column today?
Just Win - What comments and what is PTI?
Eddie, Eddie, Eddie....
This isn't taking away from the hype. We Bama fans can concentrate on two things at once....
As far as Barnhart goes.....Perhaps he's getting his perspective from a certain member of this blog...
Just read it Justwin. I agree with Kevin. It's time to make a decision.
FSJ- You think Hoopie is emailing Tony regularly?
I refuse to call out anyone by name here, because that's not my style.. :-)
Just ask yourself WWHD?
Dang it! Somebody tell me what "PTI" is and what comments were made!
PTI - Pardon the Interruption
They were discussing the SEC Championship Game and they were saying that Florida should be a 9.5 point favorite. They were saying the SEC is down this year and the conference only has 1 maybe 1 1/2 good teams this year. That 1 team is Florida. They discussed Bama's schedule and that it really isn't that good now that the season is complete. They said the SEC and Mountain West are about equal this year. They said Alabama is like the Hawaii's, the Utah's, etc just wrapped in more tradition.
PTI= Pardon the Interuption- a show on espn in the afternoon Apparently they ripped bama, but I didn't see it or hear what was said.
I agree with Scarbinsky's article, because for the best of Auburn it's good to get this over with sooner...however I don't recall PMarsh and Scarbinsky saying Tommy needed to make a decision last year when he was doing the same thing.
See, I don't know what WWHD means. I'm thinking it is "who would handle dat?" or "what would Howard do?" but I don't think either one of those are right.
So, what does it mean. I saw somewhere that I can get a acronym book filled with text speak. I think I might.
now that the season has played out, i have to agree that the sec wasn't that strong. while bama put up some gaudy scores at times, it turns out they weren't playing that tough a schedule. clemson? fired coach. Tenn.? fired coach. miss st.? fired coach. auburn? may be firing coach. lsu? worst season in years (auburn almost beat 'em) uga and ole miss are the two best teams bama faced. they hammered uga, but it turns out uga didn't have a defense. ole miss played 'em close. i'm just glad au didn't play the gators this year.
Just Win - Thank you very much for that info. That is more than a little funny. :-)
Monica or anyone else who wants to hear what was said on PTI yesterday, here is a link. I think it was pretty close to the beginning of the show.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espnradio/podcast/archive?id=2406595
I get the impression that what Jacobs meant was either DUH or I have not been told how to respond to questions
I couldn't agree more RK. A decision shouldn't be made so Tuberville isn't left twisting in the wind, a decision should be made for the good of Auburn and Auburn alone.
As for offensive coaches not recruiting ...
Greg Knox met with LaDarius Perkins last night at 6 p.m. in Mississippi. I know this.
WWHD = What Would Hoopie Do
Mornin' hotties, I'm goin to throw the O/U line out there for 1 P.M. Central on significant news, personally I'm taking the over.
This whole saga reminds me a bit of Y2K.
A whole bunch of hype and build up beforehand, complete with gnashing of teeth and apocalyptic predictions of doom and gloom.
When the clock finally does strike midnight, we will be left with the status quo and wondering why we all "wasted" our time on it.
I don't care if Tub feels he's twisting in the wind. He did the same thing last year. So people writing articles about how unfair it is to Tub does nothing for me.
However if you want to write an article about how Auburn football is twisting in the wind while this happens, then by all means write that article.
I am wondering about buyout clauses and how beneficial they are. I do think they are intended to bring stability to a program, but it seems to me there should be some conditions. Yes, I do believe the buyout clause should be in effect this season because it prevents knee jerk reactions to a bad season, but shouldn't there be something in there that says if you have a couple of loosing seasons in a row or something, your buyout goes away? Or even better, make it that you have to win a minimum of 12 games in two years, or the buyout goes away. That way at least if we had an even more incredibly bad season, like 2-10, there would be no buyout this year. In general, the concept of a buyout clause makes good sense in terms of stability, but there should be some kind of limits.
WarEagleRK, this twisting in the wind crap is not good for anyone.
And I would even favor a buyout amendment that favored the coaches too. For instance, there would be no buyout if the coach was offered a job with a raise of 25 percent or more. It just makes sense for there to be some flexibility here. Buyouts have made several schools look stupid, the most obvious being Notre Dame.
Would Sexton be around if there was buyout talk?
No.
Jere Beasley, a Montgomery lawyer, is Tuberville's guy for contractual matters.
RK- I agree about letting Tubs twist in the wind is payback for last year, but this not good for Auburn if they have any intent on bringing him back. It is going to be tough for Tubs to go into a recruits house and declare that he will be the coach when the player is a senior.
Steve- Buyout clauses are terrible. I believe they kill the hunger of a coach and make them lazy. If someone left Auburn to go somewhere else, then obviously he did something well here, so I would be fine with it.
Breaking news on The Morning Drive is that Al spoke with a couple of assistant coaches and they feel they are all out at Auburn including Tubs.
Good morning SFC...or should i say lebowski...do your friends call you 'the dude'?...Nice Pic!!!
Has Jere Beasley been spotted around there?
Al...being Al Borges?
DelGreco is saying that Tubs is basically not getting a chance to explain his plan on how to change the program. Who knows it looks like things are heating up.
krewe, since Tuberville has a signed contract, the only negotiating on buyout would be if he is willing to lower the buyout to get a shot at turning things around next season. That is what I think may occur because if I were the athletic department I would feel pretty dumb if I gave him another shot, we had another loosing season, and I still had to pay out $6 Million to get rid of the guy.
I used to love Al DelGreco, that is until the Super Bowl in 2000 when home slice missed 2 early field goals that put the Titans in a bind...I'm getting sick thinking about it again...anyway interesting that he is in the know.
McLovin, if Tuberville isn't being given the chance to explain the changes he is planning, I would think the meeting would last less than 5 minutes.
CTT: Hi, I am here for the end of season review.
Jacobs: Your fired.
CTT: See you later.
JJ,
needs to just fall on his sword!!!!
or let me use his head as a demo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTHRr8XbmPU&feature=related
'the dude'. sweet. love the pic too SFC.
Haven't seen Beasley.
I know him. He couldn't even trick me with a disguise.
Steve, you're right.
It doesn't take two days (total of six hours so far) to have ideas ignored and be shown the door.
That takes 10 minutes.
All this waiting is fueling the tank for a Terry Tate moment here at work.
Agreed Jay, but wit JJ coloring in his color book with his tongue stuck out, it makes it hard for Tubs to have the conversation.
I suppose that it is possible that Jacobs told him that he can have another year if he fires the offensive staff, but I seriously doubt that. Someone at Jacob's level wouldn't try to evaluate position coaches. He is really there to just evaluate Tuberville.
If nothing has been decided this afternoon, I can see Jacobs with a fake 1970's mustache & an afro wig trying to sneak out by the reporters this afternoon.
Steve I agree I was just reporting what the Opening Drive show out of Birmingham is saying this morning. Evan Woodberry was on earlier but didn't say anything like this. Al DelGreco basically said he talked to his close contact and they feel they are out but who knows. I normally respect Al's opinion but he has been wrong before. As for Tony Curry I don't believe anything that comes out of his mouth. Barker is ok but I get tired of his sunshine pumping.
RK- Something seems to be going on right now. Everyone is trying to track something down. What, I don't know.
Eddie, are you on the inside??
Longshore on SportsRadio 740 out of Montgomery was on air about ten minutes ago saying that there was potential breaking news (but all unofficial and unverified right now) that Tuberville was out at AU. Since then he (Longshore) has more or less let it drop.
Anyone here have any ideas on what is going on this morning with the coaching situation/Tuberville? How about the Hottie in Chief, JGT?
Don't put alot of stock in what Al says or anyone for that matter, obvliously here wants to seem in the know. Here is the order that the decision will be made and passed down
Lowder > Gouge > Jacobs > Tuberville> The World
McLovin,
Do yourself a favor and listen to something else other than the OD during the morning commute. Maybe a nice play list of Jan Terri to pass the time.
I stopped listening months ago and my blood pressure is much better because of it.
I am surprised schools don't handle things like this better. For instance, they could hold these meeting off sight, possibly in a bar in backwoods Montana. They could release a statement occasionally to the media, but by scheduling things, it would involve guys like Jay hanging around the athletic complex. Of course, Jay might show up in the bar in backwoods Montana, but that would be far less visible than having media lingering around the athletic complex.
Would love to see them keep Tubs if he could go out and get a proven spread guy and his staff. If not, I am afraid Au would be better served to go get someone new. I like Tubs and am thankful for what he has done for AU, but it just seems the relationship between he and some of the trustees may have reached the point of no return. If they let him go, they better make a splash hire though. Change can be bad, but it can also be really good too! Guess we'll just have to wait and see... WAR EAGLE!!!
Here is the order that the decision will be made and passed down
Lowder > Gouge > Jacobs > Tuberville> The World
With SAC and the history at AU, I doubt there is any way that Lowder is directly involved with the decision about whether Tubs stays or goes. That isn't to say he isn't involved at all -- plausible deniability will be preserved -- but I don't believe the decision is actually his (though he could certainly facilitate it by pledging to come up with the funds for the buyout.)
What scares me is the people who are handling this review/firing are the same ones who are conducting a coaching search.
jaywall14, I don't care what type of offense the new OC runs. It could be the Notre Dame box for all I care, as long as it works.
It just occurred to me that maybe this thing is going to take several days because they are negotiating around a certain number that starts with 6 and is followed by six zeros. Maybe the fate of CTT is not in question at this point. Maybe it's all about who is willing to settle for what.
I agree that Lowder will stay as far away from this as he can.
I agree that Lowder will stay as far away from this as he can.
Phred, if CTT is being fired, he wouldn't settle for less than $6 Million. That is why I think this means he stays, but the buyout will be altered for next season.
Maybe they are trying to determine the details for how to name Tubs the AD in waiting....
James I will have to give the Jan Terri a try. I just have to listen to something to keep me awake on the way home from the office.
Roman,
I hope you are right but he has made all hiring and firing decisions since barfield, and granted the SACS debacle may have changed some things but with this program you never know, and that is a very bad thing.
Roman is a math genius!!!
Steve - I understand the next round of discussions are at a strip club in Destin
Folks tells me that push has come to shove.
Day 3 of my Work Productivity Crisis begins!
I do not know why everyone is so upset on how this is going. To me it looks like a year end review. I have them and most of you have had them, except I do not make 3.3mil a year( maybe some of you do), so I would assume that the amount of time spent on review may be proportional to the amount compensation. They may be going through it game by game, maybe it is in depth conversation about the direction of the football program. But, what I think people are doing is confusing their need to know right away with an ineptitude of duty or due process.
What up peeps?
KJ - If there is a game by game analysis - Then CTT will be writing AU a refund check for services NOT rendered!
My guess is that if Jay could press his ear to the door he would hear a loud smack following by Tommy Tuberville saying "Thank you sir, may I have another year".
Now KJ, there you go talkin' sense about College Football and the PTB, that sort of talk leads to trouble.
