Lane Kiffin takes another hit
So I'm watching this ESPN report on Lane Kiffin.
ESPN asked the Oakland Raiders for comment. The Raiders. A real organization.
Here is the team's response:
"Lane Kiffin is a flat-out liar. He lied to the team, he lied to the fans and he lied to the media. He will destroy that university like he tried to destroy the Raiders and will eventually clash with (Pat) Summitt and (Bruce) Pearl. Other than that, the Raiders can say nothing further."
Holy cow. I'd love to know what Kiffin did to Al Davis.

substantial...
Could it be?
Crap!
I don't know if you kids are golf fans ... but as of right now, there's a 4-way tie for the lead, a 3-way tie (Tiger, Furyk and Love) one shot back, and Ernie Els two shots back.
Now that's substantial.
I miss the days when leaders in the game played by middle aged white men had normal names.
Here we have a carnivorous animal, a name that gets you 'randomly screened' at the airport, and some hormone that makes your heartbeat go up.
Unbelievable. Jay, could you contact the Raiders and request they stop sugar coating things and just say what they mean?
As for Fob James getting in a physical confrontation with Lowder, I have never heard of it, but it would be hilarious. Now, Lowder might give Bill Gates a good fight, but the idea of him fighting with Lowder, well, all I can think of is R.I.P. Lowder.
Correction, the idea of Lowder fighting with Fob James. That is just a hilarious picture.
This is going to be a good finish to the Memorial tourney...
could someone translate? my english is not very good.
Jay G.
I too am greatly looking forward to The Beatles Rock band...did you see where they are also doing Guitar Hero Van Halen?
There is some footage out there on it as well.
This Tiger Woods guy, he's pretty good.
This Bettencourt guy, he's starting to play like his name is Jet-n-court.
Did ESPN just now talk to the Raiders about Kiffin? (I wonder where they'd get an idea to do something like that?) Or was this replay of an old report?
Jet...
That Tiger guy... he might be able to have a little success on Tour. He's not half bad.
The little fellow's hittin' it well, he's puttin' it well. He's doing everything it takes to win...
ESPN talking to Raiders = Tabloid, yellow, muck-raking journalism?
Discuss among yourselves.
I'm watching golf.
"Tabloid, yellow, muck-raking journalism?"
Seems I've heard/read something like that before but I can't seem to recall where.
Here is a link to a Fan House article on the Kiffin/Raiders situation. I don't know how well Kiffin will do at Tennesee, but lets just say I am darn glad we didn't hire him.
wifey watched the kiffin report and asked: "so why did Tennessee hire him? Is he good?"
I didn't have an answer. I don't know if he's good.
I'm just glad Kiffen doesn't burn bridges. It's so nice and refreshing.
Asking Raiders about kiffin = normal.
Asking kiffin about Raiders = not normal.
Asking kiffin about raiders and publishing it in Kansas City = bad!
In either case it's not yellow journalism.
The Kiffin hire never made sense to me. Yea, if he had been the OC at USC for a significant number of years and successful, maybe I could see it. But the guy is like 33 years old. My eldest son isn't too much younger than him. It looks like Tennesse would have went with a guy with a more lengthy resume and who had been through puberty.
http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4238779
the ESPN video report on Kiffin
BTW, JayGT, the correct answer to wifey's question: Layla
She's in the video at the 8:10 mark (about 1:15 before the end)
I remember in December there were a few people on here wanting us to hire Lane Kiffin.
THT, thanks for the video link. It is hilarious. Every time I hear the guy I have a hard time believing he is a head coach in the SEC.
RK, fans are stranged. There are a lot of fans that said they hated Chizik or Muschamp when they bolted for Texas. Some of those same fans that hated Muschamp wanted him as the new head coach.
My wife's reaction to Layla: "Oh, Lord."
BREAKING NEWS: Layla Kiffin supporting husband through trying (and financial rewarding) times at work. More at 10.
I don't take Sunday afternoon naps, but I sure am up for one now. I'm almost comatose. I think a big bowl of ice cream will wake me up, at least until I've finished it.
I must admit that I think Kiffin did a good job of selecting a very experienced staff. It is actually another very young coach that had a dad that was a legendary NFL coach did.
His comments that there are no full serve gas stations is wrong. In Oregon and several other states all gas stations have full serve. It is the law. They require a gas deliver specialist at the pump.
Jay G .. Tell Wifey ... "My thoughts exactly."
oohhh Kiffin...Funny thing is I thought of this guy for Au's next OC after Franklin was fired..glad I was wrong...then again the Raiders aren't exactly the example of how to run an organization..
ummm.... Wow!
This Tiger guy might win a tournament or two on Tour if he keeps making shots like his approach on 18 just then.
Back to Beatles Rock Band, the "Opening Cinematic" for the game is some of the best graphic design work I've ever seen -- especially the last 2 minutes:
http://www.thebeatlesrockband.com/cinematic.php
Delayed respone for Jay from prior thread. (Brickstore pub in Decatur and Braves game/Memorial sidetrack)
Covering the 02 Auburn vs USC game. Do you have a link to your article or impressions on the game?
Bellefay1 - I'm going to sneak in and provide a pseudo-unsolicited reply (you didn't specify which Jay, though we all know it wasn't intended to be me)...
The most memorable event of the 2002 game at Souther Cal was my ability to guess Auburn's 2nd half offensive plays correctly about 90% of the time. I've never played organized football. So if a dumbass (to coin a self-appellation) can figure it out, it shouldn't have been surprising that Southern Cal shut us down in the 2nd half.
regarding the video...kiffen may prove to be a rock star, but he comes off as a complete joke. as if I needed another SEC coach to pull against.
cannot possibly express in words how nice it is to be out of knoxville.
Bellefay, I don't look back.
Why is LaDarius Owens considered a no star prospect while he has offers from Auburn, bama, TN, Arky, Ole Miss, Miss State, FSU and Clemson?
I'll be glad when he comes out of Baton Rouge tonight.
as my father once said..."Why so serious?"...
Mon, the rating sevices initially rate the most well known recruits. Many recruits get their stars during their Sr season or when offers pile up.
Should we really be worried about Owens going to LSU?
i am in for one post. been reading about drunken fans being rude, so i had to add my story. at a ut au game at their place long ago, we left their stadium after a tuff loss. a drunk ut fan got in this guys face talking about how they kicked our ass. the au fan calmly said "you guys may have won the game, but you have the ugliest f-ing girlfriend i've ever seen, the ut fan was speechless. classic one that i will never forget.
war eagle. kickin ut's butt this year will be chiziks first big sec win
speaking of drunken fans..I ask again.."Why so serious?"
I wouldn't get too excited about counting stars. We have a lot of players on offense with a lot of stars. Hawthorne and Zachary were both 4 stars if I recall right. So was Eddins, Tate, Fannin. And people say we have no talent. So, better stay away from those stars.
Thanks Hoopie
Spongey,
That's funny!
I almost got beat up by one of the Indigo Girls after we beat UGA in Athens in the early 90's.
She didn't like the fact that I said "war eagle" when the espn highlights came on in the bar after the game.
Things went downhill after I apologized to her because "I thought you were a dude."
HAHAHAHAHAHA
now THAT was funny
I hope she kicked your butt.
It was either an Indigo Girl or Eddie Izzard, I'm not sure which.
I hid in the men's room
Fess up...
You hid in the men's room with the Izz.
Sponge that was great
Can I add one thought on Kiffin? He may turn UT into a train wreck, but if I was a UT fan I would rather try this route than hearing Fulmers' tired old talk again. Recruiting has definitely picked up for them, and I am very curious to see what kind of team they put on the field this fall.
Depressed, I am with you on that. I believe he has them much better at this point than Fulmer would.
I don't know about Kiffin. I doubt even Fulmer would do the bonehead things Kiffin has done and Fulmer was always good at recruiting. He had more trouble after he got the players than in getting them.
Steve- Fulmer had a problem getting the players at the end. Trust me, UT was not recruiting close to the way they were in the mid to late nineties.
Good night hotties. You will not be seeing my normal 3am posts anymore, as I am upping my workout time in the gym, so instead of getting up any earlier, I will be bypassing my normal HABOTN fix in the morning and saving that joy for when I get to work.
Takce care Hotties.
Watching Christmas Vacation in the middle of June is a treat.
As I departed the stadium in Athens two years ago, trudging back to my car for the drive home (all alone), I saw a UGA fan giving an AU fan down the road. The AU fan was taking it. Finally, his female wife/GF/significant other decided she'd had enough.
Her statement, as I best I recall: "He's not gonna do anything, but I will. If you don't show some class and STFU, I will kick your @$$, (dismember you) and set your @$$ on fire."
Total silence for 5 seconds, then everybody around them -- fans of both schools busted out in laughter.
That would make this the hap-hap-happiest June since Danny F'ing Kaye.
Norm,
Is there anything I can get for you? More eggnog? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere? Leave you for dead?
Jay I'm glad you're back!!
Kiffin better be able to coach! I just cant see any major program walking into this much of a train wreck. Well I guess he isnt all bad, he did bring in the #10 recruiting class this year.
Ladarius Owens will be a 4* soon. I hope we can land him.
No thanks Jet. I'm just fine.
G'night all.
anybody else been watching Bruce Springsteen on VH1? He explains the lyrics to his songs
"Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A."
THT, when Bruce 'splains this one, could we get the interpretation.
Good night to the HOT ONES.
Remember ...
You can't make the club in the tub.
No drops.
jay,
your anti-auburn, REC driven agenda has been proclaimed in the forums at scout.com's inside the auburn tigers. we all know you hate auburn and will do anything to keep it down.
hotties, we must fight the power!!!!
you actually had a number of folks come to your defense--me included.
now that your daughter has been treated rudely by a cousin humper for wearing a HABOTN shirt, you can kinda see where we are coming from when we wear clothes with a full fledged AU logo on it or have a sticker on our car.
i wouldn't think too many cousin humpers would recognize a HABOTN shirt. maybe it was our bud salsa schmuck who yelled the profanity?
here is an interesting part from an interview with tyronne green from scout.com's san deigo chargers site:
How did you feel about the direction Auburn's offense moved towards last season as Tommy Tuberville and Tony Franklin tried to implement the spread offense?
TG: I don't really know what to feel about it. I bought into the system and kind of went with the flow. I was excited about it and thought it would be a big hit for us, putting up big numbers like the Floridas, and the Texas Techs and Oklahomas. So we all, as a team, bought into the system and unfortunately it didn't work out very well as far as the season went. For me, I bought into the system, and it shows me that I can be more versatile in what I can do.
he goes on to discuss being there with rod smith and marcus mcneill and the intensity of mini camp.
i think for all the talk about folks not buying into the franklin experience, it was more coaches than players and the coaches' misgivings seeped into the mentality of the players as the season went on. this only reaffirms my belief that a majority of the staff members were the problem, not tubs or the talent of the players or even franklin.
Chip chip, I think there is blame to go around. I have read where Franklin said that Tuberville had told him to change QBs at times, so I do think Tuberville deserves some of the blame.
I also think Franklin deserves some of the blame because he lacked the people skills to sell his offense to his assistants.
Yea, the assistants likely deserve some of the blame too.
It is just how the world works. People want to find one person to blame, but usually it isn't that simple.

Ok. it's out of my system. I shall not talk about this miserable failure again. I'll get me some blood pressure pills and pop one every time I read this excrement's name.
They didn't let me have enough alcohol to overcome the pain of last season.
And I claim this forum in the name of incisor!!!!
Good morning, Hotties! What's on the playlist this a.m., Tar Heel?
Morning Hotties - it's a new week, let's make it a good one. I'm slammed at the office so my HABOTN time will be very limited again. Dangit. But I'll catchup and read your postings. Just like I did over the weekend.
In light of that, I think I'd like to see no further talk of any ex coaches, except maybe Dye. WHO'S WITH ME?!?! (a la Belushi storming from the room after his "did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" speech).
Luv - MrsTHT snuffed it out as soon as it came on this morning since she had the news going on the tv. Despite that, and the fact that it's a Monday, it's still a great day to be an Auburn Tiger!
WARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!!!
Good Morning Hotties!
The new workout was great. More than doubled the normal calories burned and it's a great way to start the day.
oh my! I may have to press charges. Mrs THT turned off the original demo recording of Free Bird.
I'm sure I will get hammered for this, but I am not a "Free Bird" fan. That is my least favorite Skynard song.
Eddie, what??? "Sweet Home Alabama" is BY FAR the song by Skynard that I can't stand. Bammers think the song was written for them.
Luv- While I see your point, I do like Sweet Home. I was guilty of it plenty of times when I was driving into the college town we were playing in the Auburn University Athletics van or equipment truck and rolling down the windows and cranking up Sweet Home as we pulled onto campus.
I liked the song until I moved here. Now, I can't listen to it at all. If it comes on the radio, I switch channels.
Luv- I can agree that going to the bama game a few times in T-town and hearing them completely trash the song can turn anybody off.
Is Jay now in the hate UAT Club after the booing of his daughter? Could this incident drive Jay into wearing the Tiger-Rags t-shirt at the Iron Bowl this year?
depressed- I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Jay will not be sporting any Auburn gear come Iron Bowl nor much other in-between.
As much as I'd love to see it, I'm in agreement with Eddie.
Sweet home Alabama, play that dead band's song.
Turn those speakers up full blast, play it all night long.
Warren Zevon
"SHA" = Song of the Infidels.
They've stolen it. Let them have it.
Eddie, I think it's safe to say you are on a very sturdy limb. That would be like the refs wearing Auburn caps...not that there would be anything wrong with that.
It's official. The Montgomery Advertiser is being controlled by the REC and is doing Nick Sabans dirty work to try and hide the NCAA penalties that Alabama will soon be receiving: article
This comment has been removed by the author.
lots of good stuff JGT. glad you're back home safely.
mrdude - thanks for that link. Since a "Jay" wrote it, I believe it. Great article!
I'd love to know what Kiffin did to Al Davis.
5-15 is what Lane Kiffin did to Al Davis & the Raiders.
So, when are we going to hear some news from the NCAA??
News about?
Luv- That is the million dollar question. Who knows, Alabama may have already heard from them at this point. I'm clueless.
What they plan on doing with UAT, if anything.
Sherlock- Are you sure you're related to Holmes? Just kidding.
I wonder if the NCAA will do anything substantial to Alabama or USC, though they should in both cases.
You're right, Sherlock, but money talks.
someone just said how do you do. I will now have that Mouth & Macneal song in my head the rest of the day. But don't worry, I'll still be hatin' bama!
THT - WELL THAT'S JUST GREAT! Thanks. I come in here for a quick update & you stick that song in my head too.
So, here you go, right back atchya -
My name is Michael, I got a nickel
I got a nickel, shiny and new
I'm gonna buy me all kinds of candy
That's what I'm gonna do
Tony Franklin was just on the JOX morning show w/ Barker, Curre and Del Greco (although Del Greco was conveniently absent today).
For a guy who loves his "privacy" (per Josh Moon), Franklin sure does like to run his mouth on the air.
Thanks Norm. no really. thanks. all day long.
Norm - since I don't recognize those lyrics, I'm still stuck with How do you do uh huh na na na na na na na na in my head
Says here, it had to be more than 5-15 that Lane did to Al.
Plenty of coaches have crashed the Raiders into the rocks.
My guess Lane must have said something like, "Why don't you go ahead and die? You look like an idiot. You look like you were cryogenically frozen in 1977." Or maybe, "No, you can't date my wife."
Speaking of yellow dog muck raking journalism, Cecil writes about AU's "obvious secondary violations" here : Cecil
The average age of the American soldier in the Vietnam was ... 19.
Nuh-nuh-nuh-nineteen.
Vietnam ... Saigon
Vuh-vuh-vuh-Vietnam.
Suh-suh-suh-Saigon.
Well, thanks a lot Jet. For a brief moment (a few nanoseconds, Michael), Aubie had allowed me to start humming "I am the Walrus". Then you go and stick how do you do back in my head.
"He tried to destroy the Raiders." Haven't they been destroyed for about 10 years? Al Davis is the Bobby Bowden of NFL owners. They both need to go away, but nobody has the heart/power to tell them.
5 more minutes til my lunch is fair game. It better run and hide.
Depressed ... exactly.
Of course, I don't want "Hello Kiffin" to have any great measure of success, but would find it amusing if he is a successful coach.
Al Davis is senile at best.
If Lane Kiffin is half the coach his father is, he will get up at some point this season behind a microphone and somehow manage to talk about Nebraska for 20 minutes.
so, Al Davis has repeatedly called Kiffin a liar. I know there is/was a court case over salary, but Kiffin hasn't filed a libel/slander suit?
Cecil Hurt should change his first name to 'Butt'.
THT ...
C'mon now. A libel/slander suit? Because he called him a liar? That's a loser of a suit. The legal standards won't let Kiffin get there.
Now, if Davis said Kiffin had stolen money, shaved points, or something specifically nefarious, then he might have a case, but then it would require proving malice.
A. There is no doubt in my mind that Al Davis believes Kiffin is a liar.
B. Kiffin has proven so far to be somewhat unprofessional at the collegiate level so I'm sure he was most unprofessional during his tenure in The League.
C. Kiffin's dad isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and as they say, "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
THT,
Here is is... Warren Zevon's song about the bammers.
My favorite all time song that contains the word "brucellosis".
You can see the video if you mash right here: play it all night long
www.tigerland.com has a link, towards the bottom, of a report in the Knoxville paper about the ESPN report on Kiffin and NCAA violation which could result therefrom.
the original ESPN video:
http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4238779
thanks, Aubie. I've emailed the link to myself since it's blocked at work.
Sean ...
1. There is no doubt in my mind that Al Davis thinks Daryle Lamonica is still the Raiders' quarterback.
2. It is my opinion that Kiffin, while obnoxious, may be taking the calculated risk that being showy is the way to go in a division with Meyer, Richt and Spurrier.
3. I think it's inconsistent to ascribe ineptitude to a coach that goes 5-15 in the league where you play the cards you are dealt (courtesy of a lunatic owner), yet we find plenty of excuses for our coach who was 5-19.
Don't misunderstand me, I love Chiz. I'm happy with everything I've seen. I'm just not ready to write off Kiffin as a moron. He'll have to earn that on the field.
Kiffin is a jerk. I am incredibly glad we did not hire him. Orgeron is also scuzz.
As for football prowess, he had success when he had Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, and all the other players money could buy at USC playing in the PAC 10. The players had been trained under Norm Chow. I think what Chiz has accomplished as a coach is a step above Kiffin. (and you can't accuse me of ever defending the Chiz hire, either)
could butt hurt be any more of a tool? i didn't think so until i read this. he tried to cover it up but most people have some level of reading comprehension.
"People who were gravely concerned about NCAA secondary violations when they involved Nick Saban and the “bump rule” are quick to praise obvious secondary violations of the rules regarding campus visits at Auburn as “pushing the envelope.”
if AU had committed a few hundred secondary violations on BCW, i would be concerned.
there were maybe two or three on the surface.
$aban was accused by many schools inside and outside the sec of various secondary violations besides "bumping" for hours at a time. enough for the ncaa to write a rule that playfully got $aban's name tagged to it. STRIKE ONE
"Before anyone reads anything into the “delay,” it’s not a delay. Even if UA doesn’t hear anything until July, that would still fall within a working window of 10 to 20 weeks that seems to be the current COI procedure."
i'm pretty sure the ncaa guidlines state 6-8 weeks after the COI hearing (but don't rule out longer). that seems to fall in line with when sanctions against the USA tennis team were announced. they were present at the same COI hearing in san deigo as UAT and were accused of major violations. STRIKE TWO.
"not a single article that I have read has pointed out that the two in-state institutions, who have a combined 11 major violations cases between them, probably need to operate in an atmosphere where “seeing how much you can get away with” isn’t the sole consideration."
thanks for mentioning that butt. you didn't elaborate that AU has not been accused on any major violations in 15 years and those were because some UAT lawyers got to a poor player and his wife to set up a coach who was trying to help them because they were pleading with him to do so while taping the conversation. the ramsey family obviously had their hand out in two directions or to whoever else would put a $1 in it. in the meantime, I think UAT has had the last 4 major violations cases (jelks, langham, means, textbooks and more on the way). STRIKE THREE
look on the bright side butt hurt, maybe the next REC talking points they give you will be better.
That Track Em Tigers blog entry is one for the ages. I enjoyed it.
It's lazy in the sense that, as I have said, I lead the industry in accessibility. If this Other Jay had questions about the story and its alleged intentions, he could have asked me directly without much effort.
Then again, that would have diluted his point. That would suck.
Cecil's alright.
He likes to read books during games, which I would find terminally distracting, but he's knowledgeable. He's entertaining in print.
JayGT - shouldn't he have asked Josh Moon?
I'll bet Jay would have loved to see Auburn hire Kiffin. He has to be a reporter's dream coach. I just don't see put much stock in what he did(or didn't do)with the Raiders. That job is a coach's graveyard.
then again, why didn't Josh Moon report why he did that outdated inteview? Is I Want to be Private Franklin calling all these people asking to be interviewed? If not, why on earth did they contact him? He is irrelevant now except to Middle Tenn State football.
Moon probably got the idea for this story in December and talked to Franklin about it, but they agreed to wait on its publication for the most opportune time to try to destroy Auburn football as we know it.
And while we're at it, I think that every reporter should put an essay at the end of their articles on why the article was worth writing. In fact, I will start doing that on my comments.
--------------------------
This comment was worth writing because I am a sarcastic person and sometimes people like reading sarcasm. Thusly so, I wrote a post that is topical yet sarcastic, and I feel that these details made it worthy for posting.
Jet, I wasn't being entirely serious about Mr. Kiffin. I should have led with a more sarcastic Al Davis remark, which you did so kudos. I've not yet hit the JET prowess when it comes to posting.
jgt, i'm sure cecil is an alright guy personally. the fact that he reads books during games tells me his stories are written for him or by him in advance because he knows what his is supposed to say. wink! he's a 3rd rate journalist/reporter though. i'd say the same if he was an AU beat writer. he'll write about anything bad at AU, even though he does not cover the team or know anything about it. that just screams hack to me. I know philip marshall is an AU homer to a large extent, but the difference is, PM admits it and still tries to keep it objective.
reading books during games? he should be shot.
Welcome to the deadest of the dead period before football season. It's not as bad as years past. At least there is some recruiting notes to read. However, it's all blah until media days gives us things to hash about. Granted, those things are hardly credible, but they do provide conversation points and that gives fans something to do in between real life.
He's probably reading books about Alabama's missing championships or Daniel Moore's inspirational techniques.
Michael- you crack me up. It took me 5 billion nanoseconds to read your post, excluding the 2 thousand milliseconds of laughter.
I bet Cecil was reading Tony Franklin's book during the games. It's a great compliment to bama football :)!!!
I hear they pass out free copies of the Franklin system with a box of popcorn at MTSU games.
Tony Franklin should have his own bobble head except when you touch it to bobble it, the head should accuse you of being too religious.
"Alabama lost a heart-breaking hard-fought game against the powerhouse Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks on a wonderful Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa. ULM is a team on the rise and don't be surprised if they are in contention for a BCS bowl in a few years. If not for about 10 bad calls by the officials, 20 poor plays from Alabama, and a lot of bad luck, Alabama could have easily dispatched this fearsome team by a score of something like 51-7. Alabama and coach $aban will chalk this up as a learning experience. $aban declared games like this part of the process and the reason he is paid $4 million a year is to teach young men life lessons like the one they learned in this game."
that is cecil's type of journalism.
THT - have I not convinced you of the fakeness of those units!? I am a failure.
No, he's not.
That was fast Jay G.
You even took me out too!
I don't think Pmarsh "admits" to being an Auburn homer. In fact, I would argue that he's not an Auburn homer.
SS has become so trite that the comments, even the non-invasive ones, are aimless.
Michael- I am a fake, so I must rely on fake numbers.
BTW, do you think there is one chance in a vigintillion that AU wins NC this year?
I don't think so, either.
SS = spurrier? I missed something somewhere.
Salsa made an appearance.
I said, "He's back"
Jay G vaporized everything like it never happened in a nano second.
What do I want for lunch today?
ah, that makes more sense. Thanks!
Well it looks like i will be busy in the next hour or so introducing the new iPhone.
Oh I know that it hasn't been announced that I am "BACK" yet, but you know that with the Palm Pre' coming out this weekend that I can't resist the urge to stick it to the former Apple execs that left to join Palm.
FSJ, can you hook me up with one of the new iphones?
I sure wish I could be like FSJ.
Oh wait, I mean, I sure wish I had an iphone.
FSJ by "BACK" you mean a few pounds have returned, I would say yes indeed, based on your avatar.
LOL THT...
Yes..that is an old pic. The most recent ones were scaring the children.
what i'm saying jay, is i like you because of your impartiality. that is refreshing in this state. PM does a very good job covering AU objectively even though he admittedly has some close ties to the program and has followed AU for a long time. i used the term "homer" loosely in reference to him and probably should not have. i was trying to save space since i've been the master of rambling media conspiracy posts the last few days.
and if cecil is not a good guy personally, i don't feel bad attacking his biased reporting in the least anymore.
i hate cecil hurt and by extension bammer!
so where's Kristina?
I don't know...
I am a bit concerned that my legions of fans do not seem to be following me around any more.
Perhaps I am old news. Perhaps it is because I am a cheating bammer..
Who knows.
I can assure you that PMarsh would nevah, evah admit to being an Auburn homer.
Dear FSJ-iCheat Guru:
It is all of the above. Just kidding.
Your friend with family in Gadsden,
Jet
Jay, can you explain why you don't think PMarsh is an AU homer? I have read Marshall for years(and enjoy his work), but I've always thought of him like I did watching Phil Snow do the evening sports report. They report the sports, but I know where their loyalties are. Maybe I have been wrong about him. I've always said it was shameful the way Auburn dumped Phil, BTW.
Chip,
I agree with you on PMarsh. He tends to be a sunshine pumper with one exception that I can cite. I'm still surprised at his original article when Chizik was hired. Didn't he remove that one from his site quickly though?
Now as far as Cecil goes, I would say that he is the source on Alabama football. Some would say that he is a little too close to the program and that may be true. With that said, I think that he, Jay, & (believe it or not) Finebaum are the best writers in the state talent wise from our pool of sportswriters/columnists.
ha, FSJ admitted it!!! that's going straight on the AU pay site message boards!!!!
just kidding. THE HABOTN still loves its resident alabama fan. we AU fans need to nurture our relationships with "normal bama fans" in the hopes we can show them the error of their ways and bring them back from the dark side. if it can be done with darth vader, FSJ has hope. i can feel the "war eagle" in him dying to come out!
PM doesn't consider himself a homer? wow.
I don't consider myself a damn good looking man, but that doesn't make it not so.
LOL Aubie.
Aubie,
Looking at your photo right now, I think you are devastatingly handsome.
We all have our crosses to bear.
And some of us have bears to cross.
but at least we know the bear is dead
FSJ, cecil is close to the program because of one reason: they let him be close. he is their mouthpiece of choice. if he wrote a damaging investigative story, he would be expelled immediately and none of his sources would ever speak to him again. and then he would have nothing to write about, hence no use to ttown news or finebaum, and hence be getting an unemployment check like me. he just knows where his bread is buttered, and sugar coated and glazed in honey.
and i actually agree with you about finebaum. the talent is there and it seeps through every now and again. he's just done too much over the years to compromise his editorial integrity in my eyes. everyone knows he's not much different than cecil.
Chip,
Cecil was the first active writer (I'm not counting Finebaum here) to start calling for Shula's head in 2006.
He may be close to the program but he doesn't always toe the company line. Additionally I've heard him say that the textbook case is inexcusable.
So last week bammies and Auburn both got commitments (from #1 in the state). But there was a difference in the way they committed.
One committed in a press conference. Other committed sitting next to his grandpa in a hospital.
And that was the difference JR was talking about. Welcome to the family, JR. And War Damn Eagle.
Cecil = Homer
Philip = Homer
Glen's Joke in Raising Arizona = Way Homer
i just hope the NCAA sees it that way, too.
Sorry FSJ, that was uncalled for on my part. Shame on me. Shame shame shame.
FSJ ...
I would say Cecil being first to call for Shula's head in 2006 lends weight to Chip's point.
Personally, when I think of Cecil, I think of the Bruce Willis character in "Bonfire of the Vanities," sans the alcohol issues.
You may have a point Jet..
Since it is oh so obvious that Alabama had contact with Saban's folks since about the Tennessee game of that year.
I dunno Jet... calling for a coach to be fired doesn't seem like the definition of pumping sunshine.
And if any writers have been sunshine pumpers for bama in the last year... well, let's admit it, it doesn't mean they are biased, it just means they are honest.
I must note that I have no idea who Cecil is or any other bama beat writer for that matter.
Some folks may confuse writing talent with the viewpoints expressed by those writers.
michael,
I think Jet was implying that Cecil was the mouthpiece of the big wigs that wanted Shula gone.
Or at least that is the way I took it.
Agreed D. Miller.
I think that on pure talent alone the three I mentioned are the best the state has.
Now does that mean I agree with their viewpoints all the time?...No.
Michael,
"Being a homer" doesn't always mean supporting the coach. Sometimes it means saying it's time for the coach to go, if that what the ruling junta wants you to write. Not necessarily saying that's what happened here. It can happen that way, though.
It sounds to me like he approaches his job as a fan. That's a little different than being a monkey for the administration. Bad in a different way.
i thought being a homer meant you likes dudes.
Or "The Simpsons."
I think that Indigo Girl who wanted to beat me up was a homer
I knew that crossing bears comment would bring Harrison out of the woods.
The behavior of reporters, columnists, editors makes from interesting viewing.
Perhaps the most entertaining to me was the brouhaha over Paul Gattis' vote of Auburn as No. 3 in 2004, his column regarding his vote, his editor's apology for his column, and the resulting apoplexy from all sides.
Hi Monica - as your favorite, or so I've been told, let me say it is great to see you here today!
now where's Luv, Cincy, Kristina, AUMom, WEG, Kathy...who am I missing?
THT - Thank you for the warm welcome. You are so sweet! And you are my favorite and don't you ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
Just don't tell the others.
If PM doesn't consider himself a homer, he might want to contact his publisher about the liner notes to his book:
In Stadium Stories: Auburn Tigers, veteran journalist Phillip Marshall shares his favorite memories of this beloved team. Together you'll relive the highs and lows and become reacquainted with some of the team's all-time greatest heroes and legends
Mon- it's our little secret. ;-)
are we? can we? dare we? ooh ooh that smell, can't you smell that smell?
most importantly...will we?
Come on Hotties, let's get to work!!!
Welcome back, Doug.
if cecil wasn't towing the company line and actually doing cutting edge investigative reporting. he would have broken the story of the ncaa's preliminary letter of investigation that was sent to bama in may 2007 and the subsequent letter containing the textbook allegations in october 2008 before february 2009 after national signing day and two #1 recruiting classes. he didn't know about them because he wasn't told about them so he didn't write about them. he first mentioned them february 2009 after he was given the all clear because it was released by bama to the media, not discovered through a freedom of information act request. if his sources are as good as they seem, he was duped or is an idiot. i think he was duped.
Okay, what kind of bribe is it going to take to become Monica's favorite? I want a hard figure here.
Speaking of "homers", my son now has a favorite player, after attending his first Braves game yesterday. Chipper Jones went 4-4 with a triple and two homers as the Braves won 8-7. Not too surprisingly, he was intentionally walked in his last at-bat.
I agree with Harrison's earlier point about bein a homer... not that there's anything wrong with that. I mean being a homer OR agreeing with Harrison
Steve,
The bribe is not somerhing that can be openly discussed on a "family" blog.
Why is there always a race to 200?
we're bored?
we're trying to get there before JayGT puts up a new thread?
