Sunday basic update

Hey everyone. I took Saturday off completely, as you know, and did lots of fun things with my peeps.

Thanks for still visiting the site and commenting like mad!

•I'll soon be headed to Riverwalk Stadium to cover the Biscuits-Lookouts game. Our minor-league baseball ace, A. Stacy Long, is on furlough and he has trusted me to maintain his high level of journalistic dedication.

•I haven't heard anything about Auburn during the past few days. A lot of the key people are on vacation (or headed there today), so I expect things to be relatively quiet until after July 4.

•I have scheduled an interview with Tommy Thigpen for next week. I'll be writing about Auburn's overall recruiting effort and discussing some of the more innovative ways coaches are connecting with prospects.

•I'll continue the coaching snapshots next week. Still remaining: Trooper Taylor, Jeff Grimes, Phillip Lolley.

I love the smell of new page in the early afternoon.

Seastrunk is saying he is going to make his decision in the middle of September and that Texas is still high on his list. Where he goes may end up being a huge deciding factor on how this recruiting season goes for us. At times it seemed like Seastrunk was a lock. It still seems likely, but of the top 3, I consider getting him to be far more important than the other two. An September commit from him would be huge in terms of getting other top recruits to head to the plains.

miller, tell the database developers that they should write more atomic queries. not only will it sound cool, it will actually make sense.

3:34 PM
Blogger Miller said...

Either we have lazy developers, or they just aren't that good. I keep asking for stuff and they keep telling me they can't do it.
Maybe we're just not paying them enough. Few hundred thousand must not go as far as it used to.

3:38 PM
Blogger Miller said...

So Seastrunk is backing off from holding out until the all-star game in January for his Commitment?

Maybe the TX talk is to appease the disgruntled home state crowd?
Whatever, as long as he ends up with AU in Febraury.

3:41 PM
Blogger mrdude said...

Steve, I also have considered Seastrunk to be a lock. Only problem is that we're 8 months away from signing day, and that's plenty of time for other schools to hire a locksmith. That's why I'm glad we have 4 really good targets; if we only end up with one of them we'll be fine. Now if only we could lock up some big time offensive linemen....

3:42 PM
Blogger bharris007 said...

Dyer made similar comments just days ago after the Arkansas camp. Recruits nearly ALWAYS make positive comments about the school they were just at (i.e. Jarik Williams). The fact that he went to Texas then directly said he was committing is a great sign for us. Much the same as Corey Grant immediately saying he is committing in weeks after visiting our camp (+ for Florida)

Auburn generated $59.67 million in football for 2007-08, the highest in the state. Overall, Auburn was ranked seventh nationally in overall sports revenue with $89.31 million. The 2008-09 athletic year has not been tabulated, a period in which Auburn had only seven home games as opposed to eight in 2007 and eight this coming season. Still, there's lots of TV money to go around.

7:45 PM

Ok that makes sense then.

Alabama had 7 home games and one neutral site game. I was trying to figure out the difference in football revenues.

I know that since the expansion we have more seats and generally we are pretty high on licensing things such as apparel so the number of home games is probably the difference.
