Sunday basic update
Hey everyone. I took Saturday off completely, as you know, and did lots of fun things with my peeps.
Thanks for still visiting the site and commenting like mad!
•I'll soon be headed to Riverwalk Stadium to cover the Biscuits-Lookouts game. Our minor-league baseball ace, A. Stacy Long, is on furlough and he has trusted me to maintain his high level of journalistic dedication.
•I haven't heard anything about Auburn during the past few days. A lot of the key people are on vacation (or headed there today), so I expect things to be relatively quiet until after July 4.
•I have scheduled an interview with Tommy Thigpen for next week. I'll be writing about Auburn's overall recruiting effort and discussing some of the more innovative ways coaches are connecting with prospects.
•I'll continue the coaching snapshots next week. Still remaining: Trooper Taylor, Jeff Grimes, Phillip Lolley.

NEW PAGE SMELL
I love the smell of new page in the early afternoon.
Seastrunk is saying he is going to make his decision in the middle of September and that Texas is still high on his list. Where he goes may end up being a huge deciding factor on how this recruiting season goes for us. At times it seemed like Seastrunk was a lock. It still seems likely, but of the top 3, I consider getting him to be far more important than the other two. An September commit from him would be huge in terms of getting other top recruits to head to the plains.
Thanks for the info, Steve.
miller, tell the database developers that they should write more atomic queries. not only will it sound cool, it will actually make sense.
Either we have lazy developers, or they just aren't that good. I keep asking for stuff and they keep telling me they can't do it.
Maybe we're just not paying them enough. Few hundred thousand must not go as far as it used to.
So Seastrunk is backing off from holding out until the all-star game in January for his Commitment?
Maybe the TX talk is to appease the disgruntled home state crowd?
Whatever, as long as he ends up with AU in Febraury.
Steve, I also have considered Seastrunk to be a lock. Only problem is that we're 8 months away from signing day, and that's plenty of time for other schools to hire a locksmith. That's why I'm glad we have 4 really good targets; if we only end up with one of them we'll be fine. Now if only we could lock up some big time offensive linemen....
Dyer made similar comments just days ago after the Arkansas camp. Recruits nearly ALWAYS make positive comments about the school they were just at (i.e. Jarik Williams). The fact that he went to Texas then directly said he was committing is a great sign for us. Much the same as Corey Grant immediately saying he is committing in weeks after visiting our camp (+ for Florida)
I wouldn't be surprised if Lache's wife/fiancee will want to stay closer to home. I can just see Lache in a Mary Hardin uniform.
I understand that Amberly has filled out her FAFSA (Financial Aid for Fiances of Stud Athletes) form and she is eligible for the Jet Foundation Scholarship for Outstanding Achievement in Mate Selection.
Tuberville's lake house that was for sale... can we turn that into married students' housing?
That's a fantastic idea, THT.
Yes I'm alive.
Aero ... I am thankful. You remain in my prayers.
Good wee hours of the morning? Aero! Is it still easy to hate bama from afar?
went to a job interview in a business I know well. It went really good. Y'all keep your fingers crossed for me...getting sick and tired of not having a job and not knowing anybody around here!
True story ... last night at a reception ... I was talking to two men ... one who does happen to live in Montgomery, but doesn't work with me. He was at the event in Minneapolis in another capacity. We were talking with a guy from Tallahassee. After a few minutes, we came to the realization that we something in common -- each of our fathers were API, Class of 1949.
Oh I hate bammer. Thanks for the reminder, the prayers n the wishes.
Captain's log: 3:20 AM. Silence is deafening. The quiet before the storm. They are trying to hide. It's not gonna work this time.
yep!. got 3 hours for a nap.
I'll just play video of the last AU-MSU game. That will help me go to sleep.
Sorry, peeps.
I have Biscuits again tonight, which means there will not be a new HABOTN thread created today.
I get in a very sour mood when it's my turn to cover the Biscuits. This is my last tour, though.
Fight the power, damn the man, etc.
Biscuits are delicious.
Hi JayGT - can we hope for a rainout?
JayGT - try covering the Biscuits with McCutheons Apple Butter. Much, MUCH better that way.

LMAO!!
Cheese biscuits?
Biscuits and gravy?
Sausage and biscuits?
Biscuits and honey!
D mIller ... I vote sausage, biscuits and honey.
Going to watch Corn Dogs vs. Hogs with some Corn Dog fans ... adios.
Sourwood honey is an excellent alternative to McCutcheon's Apple Butter.
tomato gravy and biscuits--yum!
Chick-Fil-A Chikin Biscuits....hmmmm mhmmm
I think you will be surprised by the numbers in JCCW's latest blog. It seems that Jacobs is doing a pretty good job of bringing in the cash.
Aero - if you're still awake, and I can't imagine you would be, try the AU/TN game next.
THT,
Apple butter, honey, ice cream - I would weigh 200 lbs if I lived with you!
Steve:
I don't have the schedule right in front of me but off hand how many home games did Auburn have in 2007?
I love Apple Butter....I would cover myself in it if I could. However, my diet would not allow this.
FSJ - I'll check, but I'm almost certain 8 home games each yr since 12 game schedule was forced upon us.
2007 away games
at Florida
at Arkansas
at LSU
at UGa
According to Al.com, AU had 7 homes games in 2007
Auburn generated $59.67 million in football for 2007-08, the highest in the state. Overall, Auburn was ranked seventh nationally in overall sports revenue with $89.31 million. The 2008-09 athletic year has not been tabulated, a period in which Auburn had only seven home games as opposed to eight in 2007 and eight this coming season. Still, there's lots of TV money to go around.
Sorry, that as 8 in 2007 and 8 in 2008.
My Triglyceride level would top 500 if I ate like THT.
I'll get it right this time.
8 in 2007
7 in 2008.
cincy - if I hit 185 I cut back on ice cream for a few weeks until I get back into mid 170s. Ice cream is definitely my most favorite food. But I do love me some biscuits with McCutcheon's Apple Butter.
http://www.mccutcheons.com
Hopie, my blood would look like cheese whiz if I ate like THT.
This is my last post until I can start typing without so many mistakes.
I sure wish I could take a "get physically fit" pill. I hate not being able to run even 50 yards without killing over. I am a slug.
MrsTHT tries* to feed me healthy foods, at least for meals (she's a dietitian). Thankfully, she keeps Cheetohs, Fudge Sticks, and Ice Cream in stock for between & after meal snacks (please don't report her).
*a difficult task since I won't eat a lot of things considered "healthy."
wtc - post away!!!
I love pound cake batter. MrsTHT was grossed out when I offered to drink a cup of it. However, she did let me lick the mixing bowl clean.
I normally refrain from dessert talk b/c can't partake.
My fav was: Blue Bell Cookies and Cream by itself OR Blue Bell Homemade Ice Cream with one Dosido and One Samoa nuked warm and crushed into the ice cream Cold Stone Style.
ooh Hoopie, Blue Bell Cookies and Cream was our favorite in TX. I can't believe that was almost 20 years ago.
Ok that makes sense then.
Alabama had 7 home games and one neutral site game. I was trying to figure out the difference in football revenues.
I know that since the expansion we have more seats and generally we are pretty high on licensing things such as apparel so the number of home games is probably the difference.
Hoopie...
Don't even get me started on Cold Stone..
I just gained five lbs thinking about it.
I discovered Blue Bell in the DFW airport when I traveled to Tejas to develop shopping centers in the early 90's.
We moved to Arizona in 1993 and....Blue Bell was there!
We moved back to Ga in 1997 and Blue Bell followed us 6 mo later. It's been great.
Dear Jay Jacobs,
Please schedule 9 home games so our football revenue will stay ahead of bama's.
Thank you.
y'all talk about food too much
has anyone seen this recruit that Auburn is going after from arkansas that has his own webpage promoting himself. I am not sure how I feel about this.
What player doesn't have a website?
Bruster's Chocolate Cake Batter and Fudgie Cheesecake.
Having fun with the Corn Dogs watching LSU.
Monica - I'm not going to talk about the made-from-scratch pound cake, chocolate chip cookies, or the ice cream pie made with coffee ice cream and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies crust that MrsTHT whipped up tonight.
Some folks visiting from GA tomorrow night.
JD that's not that uncommon these days.
Are you SURE she's a dietitian? If so, have you checked to see if your life insurance has been bumped WAY up lately?
Hey folks
Mon- MrsTHT & me got a good laugh out of that. But she didn't answer when I asked about the life insurance. Hmmmm
Good evening AU1N04. How are you?
What up with bluebell ice cream? Never had it. But since we're on the subject, a great place over in East Atlanta off of Lavista called Jake's and they have the best ice cream I've ever had.
Makin' ya hungry..Mon?
Ding!...that HR will fire up those corndogs. LSWho 5....Ark 1 in the top of the 6th.
Hey AU1 :-)
THT - I'm just jealous. Forgive a hater...
Jet and corndogs watching the CWS = libations flowing.
Mon- just keep that hate directed towards UAT!
Lookouts are buttering, ..er.. I mean battering the Biscuits 5-3 after 3.
I will be an Aunt again by next Wednesday one way or the other.
Big Bang Theory in 14 minutes. :-)
THT - Haven't had a chance to say congrats.
Mon - Congrats and tell Dirty I say hello and also congrats!!
Sean - Blue Bell is our very favorite brand of store bought ice cream. We can't get it up here in NC yet.
In your honor, I'll have another DC.
HAHAHA I retract that statement about being an Aunt. The timing on my post and the email I just got from Dirty is a hoot.
there sure is a lot of food chit chat that goes on here..it's all good people..just eat it!
Thanks AU1. I watched the parade live over the internet today. Sure would have enjoyed being there. There are 3 very happy Pens fans in this family, and one sort of happy not much of a fan.
Too late to go to Jakes and my freezer kills store bought ice cream.
AU1 - I will tell Dirty you said hello. You're so sweet (to want to say hi to my hot sister).
;-)
Sean - they sell Blue Bell in town I'm sure, they sell it up the road from you. You absolutely owe it to yourself to try it. You will not be disappointed. My all time fave from back in the day we used to have it - Homemade Vanilla with Hershey's Chocolate Syrup on top.
Norm - are you my brother?
Mon....wifey DVR'd the entire Big Bang season and has watched each episode at least twice.
Sheldon ranks alongside Barney Fife and Kramer in sitcom character HOF.
Hoopie - Mrs. Hoopie has excellent taste. I couldn't agree more about Sheldon!
Sweet or smart...not sure which...but hey, thanks for the compliment!
I know where to butter my bread! :-P
Ok, so I had asked earlier...does it just seem odd that AU seems to be a leader for a large number of high profile recruits?
very, very smart
Why does it seem odd to you?
I had mentioned earlier that we haven't been a leader for this many recruits in some time.
I think it might be due to the fact that I was looking for folks that would "fit" the program. But that was the past, and in Lion King fashion, "it doesn't matter...it's in the past!"
I mean...all top 3 RB recruits are leaning towards AU.
AU1 - what seems odd is why we weren't the object of affection for big name recruits the past few years.
All the best to Dirty.
THT and Norm as brothers? Too difficult to comprehend.
ok, where/when is this Big Bang show?
Understanding of course that it is all talk at this point which is cheap.
oh, found it; which one is sheldon
Howdy hoe brother jet!
AU104....my guess is that our coaches have intrigued some top recruits, but the recruits understandably will wait to see how this new staff actually coaches a season.
must be the greeen guy
Sheldon is the tall, skinny one that is so consumed with logic he hasn't a single social skill.
Sheldon is the tallest, thinnest one and he's the one they call Sheldon.
:-) (sorry)
BTW, Nova is a Sheldon. I know this because I had dinner with him.
Big Bang is comical I must admit.
ummm of course it is
Hoopie and I both like it.
What other endorsement could you possibly need?
Went to a nre establidhment tjis weekend. Had an appetizer that was a 'Conecuh Sausage Corndog'.
It was awsome.
et tu, WTC????
Holy cow. I still can't spell.
I tried to say I went to a new establishment this weekend.
We can't get Conecuh sausage in NW Ga.....bummer.
WTC....where was that restaurant?
Mas Vino!!
I don't Mon...that is just verification for mois.
I picked a good year to follow the CWS....Erin Andrews is on the sidelines and quite frequently on the screen.
It is Hampstead. It is called Number 16.
in a new development out Taylor Road near where it intersects with 231 South.
I just watched the Dyer video...
He's short, but still stout. He's a little pinball. Good moves, amazing balance with that low center of gravity, good vision. He is patient, and follows his blocks, then when he see a hole open, boom, he's gone.
He reminds me of Michael Turner or Maurice Jones Drew.
Ready to get home from Minneapolis. Corn Dog Crew relatively tame, by their standards.
I've never met a corn dog I didn't like. I've certainly never met a Conecuh sausage I didn't like.
Conecuh Sausage Corn Dogs? Well that's just almost too much to believe. Perhaps heaven has arrived on earth.
It was very good. I may try to mske them myself. I just put a little yellow mustard on it.
You really cannot beat good ol' yellow mustard on any tubular pork product.
Corn Dogs warming up with Hot Boudin cheer.
Biscuits still trail 5-3 heading into the 9th. Too bad we can't reach JayGT in the press box.
wha
The flatbreads at 16 are great also.
Ready for Ladarius Owens to commit.
Man, my ipod is unresponsive. I think the battery is dead for real. Oh well.
I'm actually watching soccer. And it's pretty interesting! What is the world coming to?
Michael - that's lousy news.
ehyou - what soccer?
I apparently have Willed the thread. I'm getting pretty good at this.
BTW, HAPPY FRANK SANDERS DAY!!!
T minus 81 days and counting til KO
WARRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
bad news tuesday:
aarion savage has injured his achilles tendon in some way. no one has said "torn" but not good from what i am seeing. some of the pay site reporters have verified something is up. only chiz can comment and he is out of town. sux for AS. reports say he has been busting his butt to rehab and really looking forward to coming back. he should be able to get a 6th year i would think.
at least we have some bodies at DB this year. thorpe, mcfadden, hood, bell, paige, d. washington
brent poole
Morning hotties,
Is it really still 81 days until football?? Off to the elliptical, hope this is a great day for everyone!
Everyone sure is sleeping late.
Good morning Cincy! Good job on the eliptical!
Mornin' HOTTIES! WAKE UP! RISE AND SHINE! Time to work off those ice cream hangovers!
Good Morning All!
Ah, another day closer to football season.
Good morning, Hotties!
Yet another list that Auburn is ahead of UAT in. This time, athletics revenue.
I agree with what's his name. If we're making so much $$ why are football ticket prices going up again?
Is Heath Evans better than Reggie Bush? Evidently the folks at Madden think so.
Hola Hotties. It's like a Wednesday for me (without the ridiculous Wednesday work calendar) today since I'm taking off work for a few days on Friday.
Miller - if you're interested, I'm about to host yet another con-call to discuss Active Directory issues. I believe that this morning we'll discuss the relative merits of implementing a Kerberos Authentication solution and how it may or may not meet our needs and not jeopardize my timeline.
I still won't understand much of anything beyond "Good Morning" but I'm hosting it nonetheless.
Norm,
I will have to pass today. I am going to be putting in some tough hours out on Lake Guntersville today... working. We'll be monitoring the surface water quality in an attempt to maintain the environment and keep the fine folks of Alabama healthy and safe.
chip chip, that is awful news on Savage. That guy has had nothing but bad luck when it comes to injuries. It seems like forever ago that he was actually playing in a game for Auburn. Hope the news is not as bad as it seems.
Norm, I bet you ask a lot of questions.
Bad news re: Savage, I hope it's nothing worse than a strain.
Anyone here learn Spanish as an adult? If so how did you do it?
Mon...
I'm a proponent of the immersion method. Go live in a Spanish speaking country for several years. It works every time.
60% of the time it works every time.
It's quite pungent.

Monica,
When I was homeschooling lots of people used Rosetta Stone. They were very happy with it and had good success. Many of the parents learned using this program also.
All the corn dog talk reminds me of a song ...
"I've got a girl that lives on the hill ..."
I learned in highschool/college, Mon. Does that count as an adult?
I understand there are 2 seasons in Minneapolis -- winter and road construction.
ehyou, I'm not going to lie, that smells like pure gasoline!
it stings the nostrils...
I want to see football so bad I could cry.
Good morning Hotties.
War Eagle and hate bama.
Mornin'. I'll cook up something here for you in a bit.
Well, I'll be moving to Spain or I'll try Rosetta Stone. I'll let you all know later. Thanks for the input.
Aero..
Right back atcha.
Yipee, daddy's cooking! I bet it's gonna be good.
Mon.
I used an interactive software to learn French. The same company makes a software for Spanish. 'Learn to Speak Spanish: The Complete Interactive Learning Solution' , for $40 on Amazon.
I liked the Learning Company software because it was very interactive. You speak in the microphone and it grades you. So.. that was good.
I've not tried Rosetta Stone.
Besides, it's 1/10th the price of Rosetta Stone. With all the money you save, you can get a 32" LCD HDTV to watch Spanish channels on.
o mami!!
wow Dr. Naut that is MUCH less expensive than Rosetta. Thanks!
