Days to kickoff: 8
Our Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute is brought to you by the number:
8
HAPPY CALVIN JACKSON DAY!!!
Calvin Jackson, a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., was a standout cornerback for Auburn 1992 and 1993. He was named All-SEC during his final season.
No Hottie will ever forget his 96-yard, momentum-changing interception return against the Gators in 1993. What would have been a 17-0 deficit became a much more manageable 10-7 deficit and lit the fire the Tigers needed to torch the Gators 38-35.
That game was serious excitement. So what did the PICK SIX look like from my seat? I have no idea. Disgusted at the thought of the Gators scoring yet again, I went to get THTJr the hot dog he had requested much earlier. The deafening roar that arose left little doubt what had happened.
When I returned with the dogs & drinks, my next major decision: Do I sit and watch the game or do I go back to the concourse so Auburn can score again? Thankfully, my position had no bearing on the outcome and I was able to watch one of the most thrilling victories ever at Jordan-Hare.
Mr. Jackson's return is the second-longest in school history. The longest was in Digger's and IV's childhood days when John Liptak had a 98-yard INT return against Georgia.
HONORABLE MENTION:
* Cooper Wallace: Nashville, Tenn.; TE 2002-05.
* Shayne Wasden: Selma, Ala.; WR 1988-90; ACADEMIC ALL-SEC in 1990.
* Stanford Simmons: Ashland, Ala.; FS 1999-01.
* Jerry Beasley: Montgomery, Ala.; CB 1977-80; yes, Terry's brother.
* Chris Knapp: Americus, Ga.; PK 1985-87; leading scorer in 1986; ranks 6th in career PAT pct (62/63).
* Jerraud "Jerrard" Powers: Decatur, Ala., CB 2005-08. Very good player.

Errick Lowe day!
8 Days!!!
Too many threads to bounce to
What video?
The video of Calvin Jackson.
No video on my end. :(
Jay G, you would have been proud of me last night...someone called me out saying I dont have the privalage to join chartoll.com
SO.... I flashed them the Inaugural Charter member RoF member card...
*crickets*
Dang my head is spinning.
Now JG you young fellers need to sloe down us older peeples can't keep up.
Nepotism = Jerry Beasley
Holy crap, the man has allowed YouTube!! It must be a holiday!
i could/probably will watch that Calvin Jackson video all day. one of Fyffe's greatest calls IMO.
I just keep hitting that replay button. I love us!!!
Well I have to go to a semi-serious class now, check back later peeps
I vote for Shane Wasdin. And my vote matters......to me.
jhag, who told you that chatroll.com was off-limits to you?
I want names.
It was D. Miller, it was a joking manner though I am pretty positive, we usually get along well, no hard feelings...it was just a nice moment of pride for me, he threw me a fast ball down the middle and I knocked it out the park...Monice and Michael praised me for the flashing of the Charter member card
Are we starting to get exclusive cliques inside of our exclusive clique?
Yea. I just looked it up. I bet D.Miller was just messin'.
That was a good "respect my authoritay" moment.
Apparently, RK.
I wasn't invited.
All fun, enjoyed the limelight though, Im sweating bullets over our depth at O-Line and LB, it could get reeeeeeeeeeally ugly
In case any of you were wondering, I spelled Wasdin's first name wrong on purpose. I cannot spell Shane that way. I'm a purist when it comes to names.
Thanks for the Calvin Jackson vid! I remember that play vividly. I had been out of school for 4 years, but AU hadn't changed the student IDs, so I was able to wrangle and use a student ticket. For various reasons, it took me a while to get into the student section and to find a seat. I was just settling into my seat when it looked like we were about to go down 17-0. I was just starting to get pissed about the beating we were going to take when that INT turned things into a game, and a great game at that! Fun times!
Shesaid - is that why you spelled his last name wrong, too? ;)
Shesaid, how are the upcoming nuptial plans with Todd coming?
shesaid- you coming to town next weekend?
No, Scott Chocolate. I'm just retarded.
Kristina, the nuptual plans are up in the air right now. Depending on how the season goes, we may just elope. On the moon. Or we may be getting married on the field after the Iron Bowl. Who knows at this point.
Yes, Harrison, I will be there with bells on. Just hope the tailgate spot is secured Friday 4PM.
Shesaid - sorry, couldn't resist!
Hmm...the moon or the iron bowl. Tough choice.
Welcome back, btw.
We have that taken care of. It will be a real tailgate this year, with Harrison's involvement. TV, food, everything
Looks like we need to bring John Lovett back so we can have that Rover position back. If anyone remembers Lovett had a guy who was a hybrid safety/LB. The role was filled by Kenny Kelly then Karlos Dansby.
All I know is that 8 rhymes with HATE ...
and I HATE UAT!
wasn't Stanfor Simmons number 8? he played that "rover" too. he was a big bust
It was appropriate that Stanford Simmons wore No. 8.
It was equivalent to the number of signing classes of which he was a member.
THT enjoyed your hard work as usual.
John Liptak was before my time as a fan or Alum
But the interception return of 98 yards happened in the 1947 Georgia game in Columbus Ga. In a brutal defeat for our Tigers 28-6.
when i was growing up in Mobile there was a company (i'm thinking it was a furniture store) whose jingle was "Open 8 to 8, don't be late." anyone know what business that is?
it's gr8, to h8, the crimson tiders!
Scottie, it was American Carpets. That little girls is all grown up and still doing commercials for her daddy's store.
I remember that ad, too. I didn't know you grew up in Mobile, Scottie. We used to be neighbors.
I don't want to work today.
thanks SheSaid. American Carpets. yup, i remember them.
Monnie, you're in the company of a former Mr. Mary G. Montgomery H.S. and don't you forget it!!!! ha.
Just quit Monica. Come on, just do it.
i think about quittng every single day.
but i do it for the hotties. gotta keep the apparel rolling in.
Although he did not wear a number, boknowsbo thinks Jim Fyffe should be honored somewhere on the countdown.
Bo Knows Bo ...
I suggest this ... I agree ... Make Fyffe the Game Day ... the zero ... since that's when we enjoyed his talents.
Jet, agreed, as that would be the highest honor.
Scottie - That just made the Scottie B. original that is hanging on my office wall even MORE valuable. SCORE!
Michael - If I quite I lose access to a whole TON of very cool office supplies and that's a price I'm just not willing to pay.
Yeah, there is nothing quite like free sticky notes, mon.
I make my own sticky notes
The only furniture store ad I remember is Burrhead Jones advertising for A&M Furniture - "Where you can have anything you see. But you sitill can't have me!"
ummm...don't want to generate the office supply hate, BUT yeah I just got my own label maker...
Mon, did you just confess you stole an original piece of art from me?
Harrison, it doesn't suprise me at all you make your own sticky notes. i'm sure they are utterly fantastic.
Scottie - Do you remember the Tiger head you drew on a piece of paper and wrote WAR EAGLE on it? You then signed it and sent it to me with UW Tshirts. You don't think I threw that away do you???
Is it possible to get a HABOTN "T" shirt in a medium size??
Loved the Burrhead Jones commercials! Btw, I was just on al.com reading an article about the Gator Bowl. Since it had nothing to do with AU or UAT, I thought it might be safe to read the comments - WRONG!
aaaahhhh....that's right. you kept that? very funny. one day soon i'll have a real art print out. this time next year, mark it down, i'll have something published.
ScottChoco - We had a very funny conversation about you in my office yesterday.
Stay away from the AL.com comments. words to live by unless you feel like getting ticked off.
My favorite Burrhead Jones commercial was .. okay there are two.
Super Burrhead, and Santa Burrhead.
Classics
digger, we're all out of shirts but i'm down to do another printing if everybody is up to it. we can do sweatshirts, hoodies, shirts, etc. all at the same time. we can do orange/navy/grey, whatever yall want.
that said, i would really like to have all the hat orders in by this weekend so i can place the order on monday. i know we have a few hotties chomping at the bit to get their caps!
Monica will you sell me one of your Medium HABOTN T shirts now that you need a new petite wardrobe?
is Burrhead related to Boxhead?
digger, by the time i need a petite wardrobe you could have grown the cotton and weaved your own tshirt
Well I would sure buy a T and a hoody. color is not a big concern.
Scottie - If you haven't already you should check into printing your own giclee prints of your art. It's become MUCH less expensive. As a matter of fact there is a lady that lives near you I think who has the whole set up at her house and I bet she'd be willing to talk to you about how to do it and the cost of doing it yourself versus having a printer do it.
So be it Mon but keep up the good work. Greg told me he loved you at any sizs. And that's the truff.
digger, would you like my medium?
I'm sure they are somewhere down the family line Harrison.
I'll be glad to get in on the next HABOTN shirt order as well if/when it comes again.
Kristina I would buy it if you want to sell it.
Mon, I would imagine that most conversations concerning me are either funny or angry. Glad to hear it was the former.
Monica you are a boundless treasure trove of information and resources!
Scott...don't forget disappointed.
j-z, forgot that one. That's probably more prevalent.
Hey Jay, is that your daughter in the profile pic??? Too cute. I've got two of my own and a third on the way in a month.
Ah..fatherhood... :)
ScottChoc - We were talking about marketing for this HUGE Health and Wellness program. A big piece of it is about preventing childhood obesity. We all agreed we should use your chocolates in our promotional materials.
I remember that pick six by CJ...I was a lowly band geek in 93. He intercepted the pass on the other end of the field and ran all the way to the end zone on our side. Goodness. We were going apes!!!!!!
digger, I've worn it a few times though.
Kristina,
That doesn't bother me, jsut let me know how to get a check to you and I will send my address via email
Mine is smileyb1@bellsouth.net
Still can't figure out why Brian Robinson started celebrating at the other 30 rather than sticking Danny Wuerrefel (sp)...too much pot sometimes can be a bad thing.
I don't normally do this, but please keep my daughter Abbie in your prayers over the coming days. She has some tests to do at Children's Hospital in Birmingham on Monday.
Abbie is the love of my life.
Consider it done, Faker.
This is the closest in cheesiness level to Burrhead/Super Burrhead that I can find.
Sellin' it
Burrhead's catch-phrase, was "Good credik, bad credik, no credik at all, come on down to A&M Furniture Mart." It was on all the time when I was at AU. Too bad he's not a little younger. He might have made a good linebacker for AU. He was a "pro" wrestler in the early 70's.
Will do, FSJ.
Wonderful video and a great selection. Calvin Jackson definitely turned that Florida game around almost single handedly.
And we thought the HABOTN was the love of your life, Faker! ;)
I will definitely say a prayer for Abbie.
Of course, faker.
You got it FSJ. All will be well.
For you non-Gumpians ...
Burrhead Jones was as much a part of the Gump as was Jim Fyffe doing YMCA Pee Wee football games on WCOV at the field by their studio. Little known fact: a frequent poster on HABOTN clanked a sure TD pass of his hands on television with Fyffe at the microphone.
And I'll nevah forget Ronald Swanner and the Bekins Van Lines Moving All-Stars featuring Eugene Travis, Sr., Eugene Travis, Jr., and the immortal "Popcorn" Carter.
Next week at this time, I will be sitting at our tailgating spot waiting to mark it off!!
Jet, was that you or was it Norm?
done FSJ.
a week from now i'll be dying to get the heck outta knoxville to head towards the plains. so ready.
Love all the picks for this one! I, too, THT had gone to get a hot dog, and when I heard the cheers I ran to the aisle to see what was happening. I caught CJ running right after his pick. I eventually went back to the Upper Deck ramp on the Northeast side of the stadium and hung out with some friends. Fortunately, he located a guy willing to share his friendship with his buddy Jack Daniels! War Damn Eagle!
digger, I am not going to charge you for used clothing.
Send me your address.

It was Norm ... It was Norm. It was definitely not me that dropped that dead cinch TD pass on a trick play on fourth and goal that would have put us up 14-0 and probably would have cinched the game. No it wasn't me. No sir.
OK, it was me. #$^%#$*%#$%!
ehyou - that guy is definitely a worthy successor to Burrhead. That's where my link goes, too.
Please forgive my grammar in my earlier post. I am working on about 5 hours sleep a night over the past three nights trying to launch a business, and am on my third cup of coffee. My fingers are moving almost as fast as my brain, and in the same direction... all!
Lots of good thoughts, wishes, and prayers sent FSJ.
Whoa, that's pretty weird. Didn't see yours ChocoScott.
FSJ ...
kids always get our prayers!
Choc! You have to admit my little story about you was funny.
Did anyone happen to see where the Mini-Mall guy goes on Fox 6 and dances with Mickey Ferguson during the weather? Mickey has some moves! You can find that one on youtube, too.
Mon, yes, but strangely enough, I am working a health fair in a couple of weeks. I am supposed to only bring dark chocolate, but I'm stretching that a bit.
If it's not white chocolate, isn't all chocolate actually dark?
In my world, it is.
Prayers for your daughter FSJ.
There are a surprisingly large amount of milk chocolate fans out there, Jet. What I'm finding with the dark chocolate, is people will still use the "it's healthy" logic regarding dark chocolate even if it's surrounding caramel, a cookie, bacon, etc. By the way, bacon and chocolate is the latest taste sensation. I'm not even kidding.
Not sure if this has been mentioned. I'm so many comments behind, but I contact the Madison County License Department when I received my e-mail about the new Auburn tags (one week after I renewed my previous Auburn tag. This is the response I received:
"We are scheduled to receive them sometime in Sept. Once we receive them
you can turn in your old tag and get the new one for $2.75 replacement
fee."
I think what annoys me the most about college football is that there is always one game where the likes of Musbergerr says that the winner of this game is guaranteed a spot in the BCS game and it usually happens. EX. Today he said that the USC and Ohio State winner will be the one to overtake FLA. Whatever...puke
Did some Sims kid just commit to BAMA?
Musburger is a turd. Just watch "The Waterboy." He revealed himself as a total tool. I'm glad Dan Fouts put him in his place.

new license plate looks okay, but I'm not in love with it. is it metal or that composite material?
THT, noticed in the article I just read that NC is getting AU license plates soon. I wish Florida would do the same.
Just checked out the Sims thing, ESPN had that commit on the crawl like it just happened. Sorry.
FSJ- Prayers sent for your daughter Abbie. I totally understand what you mean by her being your life!
FSJ.. Prayers are on the way to where prayers are supposed to go. I wish I could take her place for her. BTW after the fully serious prayer, I also asked that she become an Auburn Tiger when the time comes.
Does anyone know what the academic issue with Montez Billings is refering to?
Just wanted to give a shout out to Shane Wasdin, my favorite #8 in Auburn history. He was a great split back veer QB at Meadowview Christian in Selma. I was in elementary school when he was there. He and all the guys who played under Coach Bobby Wasdin were great repersentives of the football program.
Shane was the WR that caught the TD against Florida to beat them 10-7. It was the year Emmitt Smith was at UF. I forget the year because I was young at the time.
I smell football. HS game here tonight, going to see PHS play in Jawjah tomorrow night and get to spend some time with one of the loves in my life. Can't wait to see the tigers next Sattiddy night. WAR EAGLE
Monica, business picked up a little on Auburn Tiger Tales, and I see GRH,MBA is ready to send you some inventory as well. I think you need to fulfill your promise next and share one of yours. I am working on one as well. Be there soon.
IV out and lurking. NAP TIME
nap time sounds SO nice.
I'm going to guess that Billings didn't take enough hours over the spring and summer to qualify. You have to have a certain amount of hours taken to be eligible to play.
if you graduated in the spring semester, would you have to take summer classes to be eligible for the fall? that doesn't make sense. what's the rule?
The situation could be he only needed 3 hours to graduate in the spring, but he needed to take 9 to maintain eligibility. He took the 3 he needed to graduate, but not the 9 overall to stay eligible.
The sad thing is the football team has people who are supposed to advise on this.
Graduate or not, you still have to be a student and taking a certain amount of hours per semester to play.
Hey gang. What's cookin?
As of a couple of years ago, you had to pass 6 hours in the sememster that the sport you play is going on. So it wasn't a whole lot for the semester you are active in your sport.
However I'm not sure what it is for the semesters your sport isn't active.
RK, thanks. that makes more sense then.
Hey, Michael.
It's Puppet Stew.
Tiger Rags continues to drop the ball. "La Wreck La Tech" is the slogan on the game shirts.
I think it's time that someone goes and pays a visit to Tiger Rags.
RK, that doesn't even make sense.
JG, if there is a rule that says a player must pass X amount of hours to become eligible then it makes sense. say Montez only needed 3 hours to graduate so that's all he took, but according to his playing eligibility he needed to pass 6 or 9 and he didn't.
does that make sense? i have no clue what the rule is. i'm just trying to talk it out.
Hola Hotties - home again, home again, jiggity-jig. A red-eye flight home where I slept decently followed shortly after arriving home with a nice nap with my future 4* son. Not too shabby.
FSJ - done, done and done.
THT - nice memory and video. I was there for that one too. Actually, I've never seen AU lose to UF at home in person.
Jet - I remember watching those games on tv too. I think I even remember your play and calling you a loser. No, wait, it wasn't until several years later when I called you a loser.
Burrhead Jones, Ronald Swanner, Popcorn Carter, The James Store, all cheesy commercials which bring back fond childhood memories.
or were you referring to the 'le wreck la tech' shirts? sorry.
Big ups to Stuart for carrying on my tradition of misspelling the most important #8's name. War Eagle!
I think I'm about to call for a boycott on Tiger Rags until they get their act together.
I was talking about the non-sensical t-shirt.
I like seeing the snowman on the countdown. Means we are really close! Oh yea Speaking of why Jay wont be at practic tonight. I played for Catholic in 95 and 96 . In 95 I will never forget beating MA for the first time in 10 yrs. That felt real good. I had gone to Sommers place after the game to meet mom and dad and all the parents were there for some after game grub and me and two other football players walked in, The parents got up and a standing ovation occured. Great Night! it is a big game
Watch out, MA cheats. So does Trinity. And Catholic. And ACA.
Indeed they do Jet. There's really only one school of any significance in the Gump who doesn't cheat.
If RK's guess on the Billings situation is correct, is that not Eligibility 101? Mistakes that elementary should not happen at a major university program.
I think someone dropped the ball kinda like Montez did last year.
I call it NO DROPS TOUGH LOVE.
RK, that slogan is so lame I didn't believe it. Upon further review it is sadly true.
Perhaps you've done this and my hard drive is so full that I don't recall it ... but have you speculated (as some of the hacks have) as to which freshmen see action this year?
Inquiring minds want to know what the Jay Gizzle has to say.
Kristina I don't have your email address I gave mine ealier. Could you drop me a line so that I will have yours and can send you my home address. Thank you
PS I feel bad not payiing something for it!!
Inspiring mimes want to throw what the Jay Gizzle has to spray.
FSJ, done
I don't know that I want to see that Michael.
AAAAAAAAARRRRRRGH! God I HATE BAMA!
I feel better now.
I feel better just reading that.
Is Michael talking about mime porn again?
Now that I'm home, I got to see the video. I am SO ready for some Auburn football!!!
Next week at this time, I will still be waiting to mark off our tailgating spot.
FSJ, Just catching up for the day. Praying for Abbie. We're in Birmingham if y'all need a place.
Luv,
I'll be waiting with you! Well, not WITH you, but there, too.
Monica,
Loved the comment about growing your own cotton and weaving your own t-shirt. So clever with your comments!
j-z, are you miming porn again?
This picture is one of the loves of my life, and now she is 24!
I think this is going to be 4 comments in a row and Jet said something about that sometime...
I hope we don't have any problem getting the same spot this season. We've been tailgating at the same spot going on 3 (maybe it's 4) years now. It's never been a problem, but with the school taking away more and more areas, I'm afraid it will be more difficult.
SC,
Thanks, you kept me from being 4 in a row. Can I come by on Tuesday for some Auburn chocolate? Got any left?
Luv,
Where do you tailgate?
Am I ever not miming porn?
Cincy, at the corner of Thach and Hemlock.
j-z, I wish I could see a demonstration of that!
Before that, we tailgated next to Sewell Hall, but we got booted from there. It was a prime location too.
i used to tailgate in the ampitheatre back before 9/11. it was my prime spot. i walked through last year and it had been transformed into a greek drunk-fest. it made me a little sad. we had some good times in that circle.
Do you now? Hubba Hubba.
Luv ...
You think you do, but you don't. Trust me, you don't.
We had some friends that used to tailgate there too years ago, Scottie. That was a great spot.
We used to tailgate at the amphitheater when the kids were little and you could park right there.
LOL, Jet. I just can't quite get the visual of what "mime porn" would look like.
EXACTLY Luv
For $4.99 a minute, you could.
I worked at facilities maintenance. It's at the corner of Thatch & Hemlock.
For $4.99 I'd rather buy a large butterfinger blizzard and have leftover money.
You guys can call my mime porn hotline and listen to it
Ok, trying to place Thatch and & Hemlock. Got the Thatch part, where is Hemlock?
Cincy, glad I was able to save you from the 4 posts in a row. Sorry it was with such a lame comment! We do still have some AU chocs available.
I mean Thach.
So you've seen mime porn. Good choice.
The one and only time i've ever seen Rocky Horror Picture Show it was at the amphitheater.
Reese's peanut cup for me!
ehyou, we're across the street from some frat house that is in a serious state of disrepair. They've had a remodeling project sign in the yard for as long as we've been tailgating there.
Cincy...
Thatch & Hemlock is right between old and new CDV.
Cincy, it's about half a block west of the TKE house.
Sco Cho,
Is it okay to come by Tuesday afternoon? I know you said people are actually there making chocolate then.
CDV?
Caroline Draughn Village
i lived in the CDV Extension as a freshman.
ok, I know where that is.
No problem, Cincy. Production stops about 3:00.
it was nice waking up every morning for 9 months with a view of JHS out my window. ;)
Scott,
So is it better to come after 3?
I'm outta here. Got a whirlwind trip to the ATL on the agenda. Everybody stay away from the J-Z Horror Mime Porn Show!
Is old CDV still there? Those apartments were barely standing 10+ years ago.
Cincy, it doesn't really matter.
cincy, talked to hubby again and he said there were no signs on Dormitory and it should be just like last year.
Luv, you didn't ask, but I am having him check Thach and Hemlock for you.
Thank you Kristina!!
Hey, thanks, Kristina!
ehyou, if you're asking me, I have no idea (obviously, since I didn't know what CDV was! LOL)
I'm smelling something ... and it smells good
Auburn football, perhaps, mrtommyd?
CDV's still there. i've parked near there a few times the past couple football seasons.
ehyou- they are somehow still standing, not sure how though. Auburn magic I guess
nope. not that smell Luv.
201!
