Days to kickoff: 3
Our Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute is brought to you by the number:
3
How many times do I have to remind you, do your school work first!
Three of our nominees received All-SEC honors during their Auburn careers, but only one was selected Academic All-SEC.
* Jorge Portela: Miami, Fla.; PK 1977-79; ALL-SEC in 1977; ACADEMIC ALL-SEC in 1978 & 1979 with a major in electrical engineering. Ranks in Auburn's Top 10 in career scoring and FGs made. His longest made FG: 52 yards. His best game came during his sophomore year when his five FGs, including a 51-yard kick, enabled Charlie Trotman to emerge a winner in his first start at quarterback. The Tigers entered that Oct 29, 1977, game against the Florida Gators as underdogs, sporting a 3-4 record. John Crane had started the first seven games. Coach Doug Barfield decided to play Trotman for a while, but Trotman had other ideas. He played well enough to stay in the entire game, completing nine of his 14 passes for 177 yards and a TD. Jorge Portela's five FGs provided the margin of victory as the Tigers downed the Gators, 29-14.
Jorge Portela is the son of Cuban refugees. Jorge's niece, Lindsay Portela, signed a LOI to compete in equestrian and recently arrived for her freshman year on the Plains.
HONORABLE MENTION
Gardner Jett: Atlanta, Ga.; PK 1970-72; ALL-SEC in 1970. His 42-yard FG with less than 10 minutes to play put Auburn on the board in the 1972 Iron Bowl. His 2nd PAT put Auburn ahead, 17-16. It was one of the most memorable days of my life, and I believe the FG was the longest of Mr. Jett's AU career to that point.
He nailed a 52-yard kick during the 1972 Gator Bowl as Auburn trounced the Colorado Buffaloes 24-3.
* Kevin Porter: Warner Robins, Ga.; CB 1984-87; ALL-SEC in 1987.
* Al Del Greco: Key Biscayne, Fla.; PK 1980-83; a solid kicker who won the 1984 Sugar Bowl with 3 FGs as Auburn defeated the Michigan Wolverines, 9-7. He ranks in Auburn's Top 10 in career scoring and FGs made. His longest FG at AU: 52 yards. He had even greater success in the NFL, playing 17 seasons with the Packers, Cardinals, and Oilers/Titans. Al spends a lot of his time on the radio these days, as does the man who overshadowed him in the SEC, Georgia's Kevin Butler.
* Rusty Williams - Moncks Corner, S.C.; RB 1996-99; led Auburn in rushing in 1996 and 1997, with a total of 716 yards during those two years.

GO THT
It's no fun being first if no one else is trying.
I miss THT.
I like any player named "Jett"
Sorry, Jay,
Guess I killed both threads. We see who actually works and who is just a bum.
I like being a bum, but I like being paid even more.
That's why you need to find a sugar daddy, Eddie. Or, sugar mama for you.
I like sugar mamas.
CINCY is on fire!
remember sugar baby's and sugar daddy's .. what great teeth rotters.... I have not seen them in years...
Great job Cincy... Hope to meet some of ya all in Auburn Saturday...
cincy, you da man. Don't worry about the level of competition for the first post. Strength of schedule is not a consideration at HABOTN.
Ummm, that mention of Rusty Williams leading us in rushing those two years was, well, disappointing. I have no problem with Rusty, but we weren't exactly runningback U then.
Is there a HABOTN epicenter on Saturday?
Happy Roshard Gilyard/Tony Bell day everyone!
Honorable mention to Jim Von Wyl.
Vince and Barbara will be in Auburn on Saturday to cheer on LT. Facebook tells me so. Are they the worst two Auburn graduates/fans ever?
By the way, was Rusty Williams the second half of a "Buy One, Get One Free" on South Carolina RBs?
Come back in a few years, we'll have one on the shelf you can have kinda thing.
Just wonderin'.
Steve from 96-99 we didn't have a 500 yard rusher in any of those years.
Jet,
Are you saying we bought Stephen Davis?
At one time or another, we've probably all felt like doing something like this:
"AND STAY OFF MY LAWN!!!"
RK ...
Of course, you are a fan of Jim Von Wyl E. Coyote.
No, RK, NO!
Never!
epicenter? We're all going to be deep within the earth's crust somewhere?
Actually, I'm hoping J-H will be La Tech's epicenter on Saturday.
BURY THE BULLDOGS!!!
For a long time we have been trying to organize an official Habotn Tailgate, maybe just maybe we can pull it together in the near future, maybe the West Virginia game would be a good date to target?
If it goes bad, I'll be standing on the It's Tubs' Fault Line.
Just kiddin'. Well, maybe not.
So are we going to "La Wreck La Tech" this weekend?
Angriest mug-shot ever, Norm...I want to know who this bystander was that was able to hold the angry old man until security got there.
La Wreck La Tech is stupid. You're stupid for bringing it back up.
You're stupid for using the word stupid twice.
I was drawing parallels. Don't call me stupid, stupid.
Cincy - I'm glad you found some play friends on this thread. It's back to work for me :-(
btw, directv has dropped Versus and probably won't add them back before my Friday deadline to order ESPN GamePlan.
I guess I'll stick with cable one more football season.
You guys are a bunch of idiots.
Leave the geometry out of this Frankenstupid.
So is that really this week's shirt from Tiger Rags? I refuse to give them support in any form, including website hits, after that stupid "cow college" shirt. Tiger Rags is dead to me.
The shortest point between two stupid people is a houndstooth line.
I agree with that Peter.
Stupid= Tiger Rags. Good Riddence this football season, at least from me.
Me, too, Snacks.
I'm witcha. I'm ready for Al Neri to take Tiger Rags out in the boat on Lake Tahoe.
And Tiger Rags won't be singing "I'm on a Boat" for long.
Unfortunately, that is the shirt.
Hey cincy
I want to play!
Send me in Coach Cincy
NO DROPS NO EXCUSES
It has been a while since I looked at Tiger Rags but that is awful.
I won't go back until soneone says things are better.
I've got to give my shout out to my #3 :
GARDNER JETT
His sweet little foot put our Tigers over the top in the 1972 Iron Bowl in one of the most surreal nights in my life. Crazy, wonderful night...it was happening but I couldn't believe it was happening!
Seriously, when someone says 17-16 what runs through your mind????
Been tied up for a while....see I missed a lot.
Just a reminder to all here, but the Auburn Football Insider Podcast is live tonight from 8-9PM CST. Here is the link needed for later:
AFIP Live Tonight
Many thanks to all that listen to the show and for all the support!
I am simply amazed that tomorrow kicks off the SEC football season. Yes, I am rooting for Darth Visor.
This is my daily post as promised. It's probably all you are going to get out of me today.
Guerra Eagle
This comment has been removed by the author.
Count me out...I will not pull for bammer.
And PF, thanks for the info, will definitely use silk next time.:)
Phred,
And to think I was waiting to hear your reviews of your favorite Tom Cruise movies ... "War of the Worlds," "Cocktail," and "Valkyrie."
PF, are you deleting your posts again?
PF, it's all good! I ain't that old!
Got anymore pointers???
Anyone else in here think "La Wreck La Tech" is harmless? I mean, I won't buy one, but I never buy their t shirts. That one is just about par for the course for a gameday themed t shirt in my opinion, though. Not a sign of the times or anything.
The do think the cow college one is stupid.
I think the Cow College shirt caused me to be overly negatively biased. Basically, anything they do from now on will suck.
Snacks,
Again, I agree.
Tiger Rags is on the DO NOT RECOGNIZE list.
Yes the gameday shirt for the La Tech game is stupid, but Tiger Rags has nice t-shirts. I got this one:
My Gameday Shirt
Hey, 3 more days!!!!
Sounds la stupid to me.
Ranting on the TRags!
What are those people at Tiger Rags smokin? Their shirts having been sucking lately.
They need to drop back and punt. Get some fresh ideas....geez!
There will be an overstock sale....soon!
In salute of the Dooleys' visit, how 'bout this on the back of a T-shirt?
Dooley was a good old man
He lived below the mill
Dooley had two daughters and a forty gallon still
One gal watched the boiler the other watched the spout
Mama corked the bottles when old Dooley fetched them out
I have no idea what that is, and I refuse to google it.
Yeah, I agree they have some stupid stuff out there, but there are some stupid people out there who buy stupid stuff. I will still shop there for you basic AU shirts though.
Been a long time since I bought a Tiger Rags shirt, I'd say sometime in the late '80's. The one I always liked (which I think I still have somewhere) was for the '87 GT game. That was the last one in the continual series, so the shirt had a tiger paw grabbing and strangling a yellow jacket and said, "Catch a Buzz, One Last Time!"
Dooley, lived in holler.
Dooley, give me a swaller.
I'll pay you back some day.
Something like that, right Jet?
I'm a man, I'm 42. I might not shake hands with you.
Not suprised. I will be suprised if USC/NC-State, Miami/FSU, or Bama/VT comply either.
Naw Jet, that'n makes me cry.
there's an R floating down a river somewhere.
I have several Tiger Rags shirts as do my daughters (that I gave them) but they got to get better before I shop there again
I made my picks! Doing with the odds makes it a lot more difficult.
This is why you Google stuff first. At least I got part of it right.
Dooley slippin' up the holler
Dooley try to make a dollar
Dooley give me a swaller
And I'll pay you back someday.
Luv, that's my favorite shirt they've got. if/when i get a new one, that'll be it. :)
Peter F Gundy may be on to something.
Extend a hand to a hungry Bulldog and you might draw back a nub.
From USA Today:
BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Celtics have signed free agent guard Marquis Daniels (FSY).
Daniels is coming off the best of his six seasons, averaging career highs of 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in 54 games with the Indiana Pacers, 43 of them starts. The Celtics announced his signing on Tuesday.
Daniels, 28, spent three seasons with Dallas before moving to Indiana. For his career, he is averaging 9.4 points in 351 games, including 109 starts.
At 6-feet-6, Daniels gives the Celtics a big guard to come off the bench.
My French? is rusty, please translate
La Wreck La Tech
What exactly does it mean??? Does La=The?????
I think it would have been better without the first La...not terribly orginal, no, but not stupid. I never buy game day shirts anyway so.
I'm guessing Tiger Rags didn't want to completely rip of the old "Wreck Tech" slang so that is why they inserted the extra "La" in there. Tiger Rags is dead to me also.
Never mind! Googled it. La = the in the feminine form.
The(girl) Wreck The(girl)Tech
So Lame!
Bought four Tiger Rags shirts a couple of weeks ago, as part of their four t-shirts for $40 deal. I was happy with their business. Not crazy about their game shirts or the Cow College business, but I'm not about to boycott anything.
I mean, did anybody not buy Abbey Road because it had Maxwell's Silver Hammer on it?
As an avid reader (and sparse commenter) I should probably know what a "campfire" is. Would someone care to explain?
You are all wrong. La Wreck La Tech means "Choke the fish with a serpent" in French. Really weird to put that on a gameday t shirt.
Brent it is a chat room format and you can join it on the cover page when Jay starts it up
YES! A Maxwell Silver Hammer reference.
I think Her Majesty is the song out of place on that album.
The final recorded Beatles album should have ended with "The End".
I love "Her Majesty" as the ending. It was a fun, not so self serious way to do things, and well, you know me.
I hate Maxwell Silver Hammer.
Campfires are held on the Chatroll site. You might want to go ahead and create an account.
One night in college we were sitting around ready to enjoy some fine Beatles music. When we turned it on, it was only the voices singing and no music. It was rather bizarre and we were pretty freaked out. It was eventually discovered that one of the speaker wires was disconnected.
Scottie, I get a new one every year. If my gameday shirt from '04 wasn't too big, I'd wear it this year.
Everyone hates Maxwell Silver Hammer, but I never expected to see a reference to it on here, which is why this place is top notch.
that's great news on Marquis Daniels. it'll be nice to watch him play with a good team. well, 'watch' is a strong term. it'll be easier to keep up with him anyways.
I'm abivalent towards Her Majesty. Part of me agrees with RK, the last Beatles Album (recorded anyway) should end with The End, but I also agree with Micahel. I appreciate the "we try not to take ourselves too seriously" factor. I'm torn.
i think my favorite AU shirt ever was from the '04 season. it's dark grey with navy/white print
ALL AUBURN
ALL PERFECT
ALL SEASON
it's just SO nice.
Why don't you get it back out, Scottie? Do you think it would jinx it?
I guess I'm up..
back to work for me:-(
y'all can resume your previous HABOTNlicious activities
seizure
I now have "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" in my head. Thanks for nothing! I'm going to work on getting "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window" in there instead.
What's with the Beasley?
That's THT's traditional posting at #88 (Terry Beasley's uniform number).
I'm just gonna quit posting. Whatever ChocoScott says, that's what I meant.
Sorry SC.
love how THT swoops in each thread and grabs the BEASLEY post. :)
Luv, never thought of it as a jinx. i still wear it occasionally. just didn't want to wear it out (even more).
Paul actually thought Maxwell's Silver Hammer would be a good single and was rightly overruled by the other three. Apparently they worked on that song for days because Paul loved it so much.
Clang clang indeed.
i don't mind the Silver Hammer song. i don't skip tracks on the cd to get to it, but i don't bypass it either.
my favorite Beatles tune ever : Strawberry Fields.
I love Paul, but he could be just a little too clever for his own good sometimes.
The Roundtable on Jox is so much better than Roundtable on 740am. It's not even close.
Hey!
We're playin' in 3 days, and you bums are worried about pot-smokin', flag-burnin', Yoko Okoin' Beatles songs.
Get your head in the game.
You can't make the club with Eleanor Rigby in the tub.
War Eagle.
So, I'm in the chat with Andy Bitter today. He ducked my question on who would win in ThunderDome, him or Jay G.
I'm pretty sure Jay wouldn't duck the question.
ehyou - you can't do that. Your speaker wire story is my favorite post of the day. Of course, I did intend to make a similar post right before you posted that one, but I decided against it. See, in my case, it was actually the balance knob and not the speaker wire that was the problem.
Rubber Soul and Revolver were their best albums.
It's hard to pick a favorite Beatles song, but if I had to pick at this moment it would be "Revolution", "Don't Let Me Down" or "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".
My favorite that Paul sings on is "I'm Down".
Favorite Beatles song ever? That's like picking my favorite Auburn running back of all time. There's not really a wrong answer. I'll go with "In My Life".
Mr. Jetson,
i need a thorough break-down of this Eleanor Rigby character. i know her song. it's solid. however, i need the inside scoop. would you want to be in the tub with her? that's what i really want to know. muscle beach may or may not be the place to be.
What up all!!
Question - I can't see the pick'em at work right now. Did we determine if we are going ATS. It was not listed when I picked previous.
Elanor Rigby was a 3 star recruit that was coached up to at least a 4 star, but just faded away.
AU1...
The spreads are up on Pick Em.
ehyou - were you that baby that my mom sold to the gypsies back in the 70's? Those are my two favorite Beatles albums as well.
Jet - we're in the game! We just need distractions to make the time pass more quickly. I'm tired of football talk. I want football games!
Thanks ehyou.
I will then have to adjust my picks tonight.
Eleanor Rigby is a freak. She needs to quit listening to Father McKenzie, and listen to Brother Jet.
Maybe Father McKenzie is the fool on the hill.
ChocoScott, my brotha from anotha mutha.
Poll time ...

Nice hard hat, Jetson. Does that mean you're taking your lunch pail to the game?
Yellow Submarine
Discuss!
That's me, I'm a hard-hat, lunch pail kinda guy. Ask your buddy, J-Z.
FatDrunkAndStupid,
We'll just have to ask Jay G tomorrow night.
I'd put 3:1 odds on Jay G over Andy Bitter.
Jet- Take the ball and start out from somewhere close to midfield, and then a bomb to Kodi for a quick score :)!!!!
Defer.
Play action short pass.
Sic 'em Bull.
First poss, punt. Midway of third? Roll away.
What's the over under on how many bama players will miss the Va.Tech game with a reported "swine flu"???

Is this a definition of karma?
Rookie right tackle Andre Smith broke his left foot during practice Tuesday, only two days after he ended his holdout with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Poll questions...
1) I take the ball first and unleash the full power of the death star...err our new offense.
2) I'd air it out. Loosen up the D. If it doesn't work, then go with Tate on the ground on 2nd down.
3) Play as base as you can get with our limitation at LB.
4) I make them stop Ben Tate from getting the one yard.
A, C, C, A
When it comes to a short yardage situation where you just need that one yard, I still wouldn't mind going from under center. Obivously Tebow has made a living of successful short yard situations out of the shotgun, but I like to have the option of the ugliest play in fooball: the quarterback sneak.
I CANNOT WAIT
Eddie's Brother:
Dave Rowe would say the QB sneak was the worst play in football on 4th and inches.
Dave Rowe would rather your quarterback step three yards into the backfield to hand off to someone everytime.
Dave Rowe is ... an idiot.
Go Moncks Corner, SC! At least the Lowcountry gets a little love at AU (even if it's only 716 yards in two years). What a nightmare pair of seasons that was.
"It's just big man on big man".
- Dave Rowe at least 15 times per game.
"Are you related to my former teammate Gerald "Scrap" Irons"?
- Dave Rowe telling the story about asking Kenny and David Irons that question at some point during every game he called that they played in.
Well said Jetson. God I'll (not) miss the Daves, although I know at least one of the Daves has survived to work part of the ESPN SEC deal, though maybe only on the regionalized, ESPN plus version (which I guess is still pretty much like JP with classier branding).
how does THT know it's #88? Does he just count them? Are they numbered and I don't see it?
what up
Jet - I'm here for you. I'm here to help get the discussion off of those long haired boys from across the pond. Towit:
The Worst Place on Earth
Dave Neal is doing the upscale former LF/JP/Raycom broadcast with Andre Ware.
Ware isn't very good.
They are doing the Hilltoppers vs Vols this weekend.
I know most of you could care less about fantasy football but, I am bored so...
My Fantasy team for my sports journalism class...
RB- Adrian Peterson, Larry Johnson, Julius Jones, Rashard Mendenhall
QB- Big Ben, Brett Favre
WR- Marquis Colston( saints #1)
Desean Jackson (eagles #1)
Hakeem Nicks UNC rookie
Darius Heyward-Bey (#7 overall pick in this years draft ran a 4,23)
Defense- Philadelphia
Kicker- Adam Vinaterri
Tight End- Kellen Winslow
hag = bored = must be in class
True statement
Can Kellen Winslow go more than 3 games without a season ending injury?
However, just ask him and he'll say "I'm a soldier".
Even though there's only 3 days till kickoff, my morning wasn't quite as happy after I read my email this morning, Monica.
When Kellen Winslow Jr., gets hurt, do they send him to Walter Reed?
145
Just for you Mon
I'm in a sweet ACC/SEC fantasy league, and I just picked up Kodi as a WR (based on the latest "official" depth chart from AU). I hope that pans out well.
I read on the bathroom wall in the waffle house across from the flora bama there was a campfire tomorrow night.
Mon...
As much as it tickles me to know something you don't...check the top of the page.
AU1 Will you tell me your secret?
BinOBA...
That's funny, I heard it from a loudspeaker strapped to the top of a black and white '74 Dodge Monaco.
What's at the top of the page? Ehyou you know more than me on a whole bunch of stuff, but I'm happy to tickle you whenever you'd like me to.
I heard it through the grapevine.
Here we go.
It has potential.
But Monica.... you might just need night vision goggles to see the number correctly
Black letters "153 Comments". Are you having a Luv moment? (No offense Luv)
None taken (I guess).
I have a hard time believing Monica doesn't know about the post count...this is a joke right?
JK I know I have "thick" moments sometimes (where it takes awhile for someting to get in there and register).
May be a false alarm, Norm.
Who's this "JK" character?...JK!
The campfire is being held at the Palace Hotel Ballroom, right?
And I had such high hopes...
ANswers to Jet-
1. Receive
2. Bombs away!!!
3. Base, should be more than enough
4. Bones? Punt? What are you smoking? If it's a full yard, it's Tate behind that fattened up OL.
btw, I wonder how the QB sneak is going to work from the shotgun
MONICA - just lucky timing today when I took a 10 min lunch break.
Y'all Hotties keep on Hatin!
GO TIGERS!!!
seizure
holy crap - I was having a SERIOUS bamer moment!
Why does Tar Heel keep having seizures?
I'm and still in shock over myself. WOW. What a dingbat.

Welcome to my world, Monica.
LOL Luv!
I mean I've even posted the numbers myself before! WOW.
Are you sleep-deprived?
Excitement induced fit?
"Say Coolwhip" = Monica type moment. Jet will get that reference, not sure who else.
Monica..I asked the same type of question and I think it was THT who told me the numbers were under the avatars but you needed night vision goggles to see it ...or some such crap!
Bill Compton must've sucked on Monica's neck, and she's Type O deprived.
I have no good excuse, but I appreciate y'all trying to help me out.
Eddie,
This day has been "ru-inned."
that made me all tingly, Jet
That's what The HABOTN Family is for!
Simmah, Mon. Simmmah.
I'm gonna bookmark this page so we'll always have these HABOTN memories.
Thanks for getting it Jet. Also, nice True Blood Reference, the season finally should be a doozie.
who sucked what??
This comment has been removed by the author.
True Blood is one truly wild show. The second season is much wilder than the first. It makes me curious what they will come up with for next season.
stop saying that word
i'm all vaclempt
Today's Peter Griffin Moment ...
Peter Griffin: Oh my god, Brian, there's a message in my Alphabits. It says, 'Oooooo.'
Brian Griffin: Peter, those are Cheerios.
I wonder if our eyes will get all black Saturday night at 6.

True Blood can't make up it's mind what it is. Horror, drama, comedy, porn?
ehyou - D)All of the above. It's mind is made up.
Well played, Norm, well played.
Norm, if you are still out there,
Thank you for making my night.
Read your post guiding us all to the "S#@% My Dad Says" site as we were getting ready for bed. Naturally I went there. I had tears streaming down my face I was laughing so hard which led to falling off the bed.
It was hilarious, hubby was laughing at me laughing (and falling) and then I was laughing at him laughing at me, then he read what I was reading and couldn't quit laughing and I started back up laughing at him. We finally snickered ourselves to sleep.
Fun was had by all! Hope we didn't wake the neighbors.
Anyway thanks, most action we've had in a while.
