Days to kickoff: 3
Our Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute is brought to you by the number:
3
How many times do I have to remind you, do your school work first!
Three of our nominees received All-SEC honors during their Auburn careers, but only one was selected Academic All-SEC.
* Jorge Portela: Miami, Fla.; PK 1977-79; ALL-SEC in 1977; ACADEMIC ALL-SEC in 1978 & 1979 with a major in electrical engineering. Ranks in Auburn's Top 10 in career scoring and FGs made. His longest made FG: 52 yards. His best game came during his sophomore year when his five FGs, including a 51-yard kick, enabled Charlie Trotman to emerge a winner in his first start at quarterback. The Tigers entered that Oct 29, 1977, game against the Florida Gators as underdogs, sporting a 3-4 record. John Crane had started the first seven games. Coach Doug Barfield decided to play Trotman for a while, but Trotman had other ideas. He played well enough to stay in the entire game, completing nine of his 14 passes for 177 yards and a TD. Jorge Portela's five FGs provided the margin of victory as the Tigers downed the Gators, 29-14.
Jorge Portela is the son of Cuban refugees. Jorge's niece, Lindsay Portela, signed a LOI to compete in equestrian and recently arrived for her freshman year on the Plains.
HONORABLE MENTION
Gardner Jett: Atlanta, Ga.; PK 1970-72; ALL-SEC in 1970. His 42-yard FG with less than 10 minutes to play put Auburn on the board in the 1972 Iron Bowl. His 2nd PAT put Auburn ahead, 17-16. It was one of the most memorable days of my life, and I believe the FG was the longest of Mr. Jett's AU career to that point.
He nailed a 52-yard kick during the 1972 Gator Bowl as Auburn trounced the Colorado Buffaloes 24-3.
* Kevin Porter: Warner Robins, Ga.; CB 1984-87; ALL-SEC in 1987.
* Al Del Greco: Key Biscayne, Fla.; PK 1980-83; a solid kicker who won the 1984 Sugar Bowl with 3 FGs as Auburn defeated the Michigan Wolverines, 9-7. He ranks in Auburn's Top 10 in career scoring and FGs made. His longest FG at AU: 52 yards. He had even greater success in the NFL, playing 17 seasons with the Packers, Cardinals, and Oilers/Titans. Al spends a lot of his time on the radio these days, as does the man who overshadowed him in the SEC, Georgia's Kevin Butler.
* Rusty Williams - Moncks Corner, S.C.; RB 1996-99; led Auburn in rushing in 1996 and 1997, with a total of 716 yards during those two years.

oh it's porn, baby
it's porn
missinit - I'm happy to contribute to someone else's action.
There is a punchline in there somewhere.
Norm - Can you post the site again. I didn't get a chance to read it.
"Norm, if you are still out there, Thank you for making my night."
Now there's something I bet Norm is SICK AND TIRED of hearing.
And there it is!!
lmaoooooooo@ Missinit saying "most action we've had in a while"
LLLLOLOLOLOL
lawd that made snort twice
you crack me UP, Missinit!!
Mon - I NEVER tire of hearing that. I remember one time in college... well, I'll keep that one to myself.
was it better than band camp?
mrinit must be loving that right about now huh Mon?
I'll have to say true blood is one of my favorite watches right now. It's a lil bit of it all, wish they hadn't killed godric.
AU1 - here you go:
$***My Dad Says
This post has been removed by the author before he posted something entirely inappropriate.
Omni - I didn't go to band camp, but I can absolutely assure you that yes, this was better.
y'all are moving faster than a campfire.
seizure = see ya, I just left off the l8r
someone puuhhhhhLEEZ give me massive sums of $$$$$$$$$$$$$ so I can just get out of this chair, go home, and follow HABOTN like a true zealot should.
The preemptive delete - that's something only a pro could pull off.
I just read a Chris Low article and it is obvious why he is a nationally known journalist and I am a lowly programmer. He has broken the hot story on this Auburn team, we lack depth. Remember, you heard it from Chris first.....or was that last?
THT - work production will fall off even more in 3 days.
Y'all so baahad! :)
missinit, that what my father said twitter is incredible. I nearly laughed myself sick.
mrinit...
nuff said
Did someone say Bill Compton? Although I have to admit Eric does more for me.
Strange, neither Eric nor Bill does anything for me.
As for Bill, every time I see him I swear he is doing a bad Elvis impression.
Thanks Norm. Figures I can't see it at the office.
zookeeper - what is this "FML" of which you speak?
Steve, don't hate a guy, he's had 4 months to talk about the same crap and he's only got 1 more day until he has new material.
AU1 - http://twitter.com/shitmydadsays
Check it out at home. You'll be glad you did.
FML is hilarious. It's basically a just a bunch of stories from people who had shenanigans happen to them. Most are self induced.
Well, if I had my choice of True Blood guys, I'd take Jason as long as he didn't talk too much. Of course he's not a vampire...
yeah, i had a teary laughing moment over those dad quotes
Omnica, Jason is a slut.
Hit me with an FML linky?
Omnica, Jason is a slut.
And that is my real name too. Just reads weird.
erics viking story was cool, bill as guillome was pretty cool, too.
FML
Let me know if that works.
AU1
umm...duh
did someone say porn?
I do hope pickem is based upon the spread, or I am going to really stink bad at this.
How ya feeling, Scottie?
It's based on the spread. I've already punched in mine.
Seanzie - that one didn't work but I think I found it on Google. Stupid office intertube Nazis won't let me look at it here.
It should be the first thing that pops up on Google. You won't be disappointed. Texts From Last Night is also a winner of a site. Warning: vulgarities exist.
Norm,
Go kick Sensi's @$$.
Just because.
For the pickem, are we picking all of the listed games or just 10 (or whatever)?
Jet - consider it done.
Sensi - be afraid. Be very afraid.
Lets go to Luckenbach, Texas,
With Waylon and Willie and the boys.
Jet,
Why bring the hate on me, brother?
Let's all just hate UAT together.
I went into the Goal Post to buy a Red Bull last night and saw many cases stacked to the ceiling.
Then I remembered it was 4 days until football season.
I smiled.
There is a lot of profanity here, but here is the link we have been discussing. If your are younger than 18 or profanity offends you, click here.
Listen here, Debbie Doomer.
At least be optimstic until the kickoff.
Then when the ball's in the air, you can say "Oh, crap!"
Which is kinda like what I do in my backswing in golf.
HATE UAT.
Screw realistic, I am sticking with unrealistically optimistic.
Right On, Steve.
Sensi, i'm still pretty looping. i haven't been sick for 9 consecutive days for as long as i can remember. i'll be in JHS saturday if i've got to crawl.
Sensi is serving a one show suspension until after the first game for his negative vibe and comments. I'm replacing him with Mr. Positive, aka "Eddie's Brother".
Can someone answer my 2:07 post please?
Norm- I don't know for fact, but i'm pretty sure that you pick everygame.
i'm loopy, not looping.
wow. i'm worse than i thought.
I picked all the games. But need to redo because I did it prior to the spread being listed.
I'm for realistic.
Harbinger of Doom sounds like there will be locusts at Jordan-Hare on Saturday.
Pat Dye Field will be a river of blood.
The first born males will die unless we put the blood of Salsa Shark on the doorposts.
I'm just pokin' at ya, Sensi.
You can update them and redo them up until the cutoff time, just make sure you save. And yes, pick all the games.
I assumed we picked all the games too. Suddenly it is much more exciting with the spread figured in. By the way, how much does Notre Dame have to suck to not be included in the top 25 at the start of a season?
Salsa Shark? Where's that character been? Apparently about to be spread across a door jam...
UGA fan in conv store yesterday: "So what kind of team you gonna have this hear, huh huh huh."
Without smiling, I said "A good one" and stared at him until he got so uncomfortable he left.
Anybody find it funny that on the new Saban ESPN commercial that Herbie calls himself "Salsa Boy"....?????
Steve FC - Who cracks the Top 25 first. AU or ND?
ND already is in the top 25?
Pick all games Norm.
Did anyone take AU? I did.
Eddie - That commercial is funny because he is wearing a ruffled shirt too.
I would ask the UGAly fan what kind of team they are going to have????
Of course, Ok State has had a brutal week, I believe the Starting LB tore his ACL, Starting CB got arrested and Starting Tightend quit the team. Things seem to be heading in Georgia's favor.
I think ESPN had ND at about 24th. Personally, I think Auburn will be in the top 25 after the UT game. Whether we remain there will depend upon injuries.
Speaking of Notre Dame, they have a Billboard as well.
ND Billboard
Suspension smushpension
WE WILL WIN THE GAME SATURDAY!
BUT
We are a long ways from being back. I'm not falling for the kind of coming back that the Bammers live for.
I'm talking about REALLY BEING BACK.
And while I'm on it, Tubs should just STHU if he can't do anything better than his drivel on Jox this morning.
BRING OUT THE BLUE!
HATE UAT!
WAR DAMN EAGLE!
AU1- That's funny stuff about Weiss. He better get to winning or the forklift is coming to haul him out.
True Dat Eddie
I wonder how Weiss accepts his paycheck with a straight face. Isn't he up around $4 Million a year. Heck Notre Dame, I would screw up over for a quarter of that.
Who's jumping on the UGA over OkState wagon?
Sean,
I think Ok State will win that one.
Sean- If I had confidence that Georgia could stop OK State, i would be there, but if this thing is a shoot out, go with Ok State.
Jason is a man-wh***, but between him and Eggs....very nice.
ScottieB...what ails ya? I thought you were taking all those concoctions for a cheap high! Nine days is a long time to be sick.
my bed is calling my name for a nap
i'm trying to resist
I'm thinking I have to stay with UGA on this one fellas.
oh my....a Jason & Eggs sandwich
very nice, Kristina
Resistance is futile, Monica.
As futile as UAT trying to stay off the NCAA radar.
I think Ok State will win, it's hard to be starting your first game on the road as a QB. I think that gives State the edge.
Sensi,
I must have missed where Tub said anything deserving of a STHU today.
He said several things in the past 10 years where I would agree though.
That's more like it, Sensi.
Fact is, we probably are pretty close to being in total agreement about where we are.
I like our team, our staff, our attitude. I don't like our depth, but it's the hand we're dealt. So we'll play it.
As for Tubs, to me, this is the first real sign he wants to coach again. He can say what he wants to, but he's got to show a little pee and vinegar if anyone thinks he's a candidate to be on the sideline again. Hence, the "hired gun" remark last week in Little Rock.
I just don't seem him getting a big-time job. (Sorry, Steve) Too many upwardly mobiles out there to see if there's any tread left on his tires.
I don't see him at an SEC school, or a major BCS player. So, we'll have to deal with him mouth for the time being.
UGA is going to have issues this season. Things will get hot for Richt.
But OKState has been a disaster this week....UGA has had a quiet offseason and the expectations are all on OKState. I dunno...this is a tough pick.
Jet- I think you let Elroy steal your lunch money on that last Tubs statement. Miami will come calling this year should Shannon stumble, and all odds are on him stumbling with the schedule he has. Also, Miami cannot afford a big name coach, hence why they ended up with Shannon to begin with. I consider Miami to be a big player still, just by where they are. Sorry, but I disagree there.
missinit, it's a lingering cold. congestion, coughing, that junk. i'm pretty exhausted. i feel like a zombie. no fever, though, so i guess i'm ok.
scottie - 9 days? go to the doctor DUH
Zombie, Scottie? That's not good. I hope you aren't craving human flesh yet.
WE MUST FIND A CURE!
and use my vacation time to sit in a doctor's office? u must be outside your mind!
SAVE SCOTTIE B!
and the Hill Valley Clock Tower!
I predict some more vacated wins in UAT's future.
Save Ferris
go to an urgent care after you get off work
SAVE THE DOLPHINS.
or don't go and keep getting sicker and sicker so that you end up missing a week's worth of work and a game or two
yep, good plan
Eduardo ...
Believe when I see it.
Plus, I think Tubs would send Miami deeper into the land of the 1970s.
Monica is right about that. Doc in a Box is solid help.
gawd, you were right, Jet
mom
Ok, Sensi, don't get me all excited.
Monica ...
Rule No. 1 ... I always am.
Rahrin!
hmm Tubs did take a shot at my Gus Malzahn...
Not cool.
miss a game? oh, crap! urgent care here i come!
Jet- You must have Tubs real high on your coach rankings.
Kristina
You say man-w***e like it's a BAD thing... wassup with that? ;)
KEEP OFF THE GRASS
It's for smoking purpose only
When people are done coaching here, they just fade away from the coaching game.
Maybe Tub can break that streak.
scottie b - if you wait until puppet hour, maybe we can get Dr. Bunsen Honeydew on the scene for you. You can be Beaker.
Tub would know about hired guns, he went out and purchased a water gun last year in Franklin.
Monica,
You can download it from the podcast section of the Jox website.
If Tubbs wants to coach he will find a gig and it won't be somewhere in Louisiana
People gotta use what God give 'em. And in Jasons case, it was not an abundance of brain cells. Bless his heart
I just stated a fact, Zteven, no judgement there.
i just heard it on Fbaum
Tubs ran through coordinators like Liz Taylor did men.
Beaker is ausome.
I didn't hear anyone complaining about Jason's brain. Jason and Egg's and just be gorgeous and take direction.
Anywho, I can't wait to see FAH McCalebb in action.
Anyone got a transcript of Tubby's quotes?
Sean,
I agree with you. UGA has been mighty quiet this fall. Quiet scares me.
Remember this is UGA, and they are the luckiest team in America. Look Okie State is falling apart already and the game hasn't even started. What is the spread on that game now?
Was it you who had the weird pain in your hip joints?
Monica - AMEN!
Dumb pretty boys have their uses.
Justins Dad has quite the mouth on him. Hysterically funny...
Eddie, I think Tubs did a good job for us -- for the most part. I appreciate a lot of what he did.
But he did what a lot of managers do -- he ran the program to the benefit of the employees, rather than its "owners."
Furthermore, once you lose the fire, it's hard to regain it. And I'm not sure the Tubs model is what works right now at the highest level of college football.
Zookeeper - please explain. I just don't understand. What do you mean? Huh? Oh, look, something shiny...
For those interested, here's Tubs on Opening Drive
Kristina ...
As Mrs. Jet frequently tells me, so do dumb, ugly, middle-aged ones.
And for the record they are not whore's, they are recyclable.
Tub saying "the SEC was down last year" is pretty funny. How bad would we have been had the SEC been up?
Monica,
It ain't easy bein' green.
I am a Platinum Level member of the Catch and Release program. Sounds so much better that whore...
"If he'll go in and coach that team and not listen to anyone else, he'll do a good job."
I think the comment about Houston Nutt not liking Malzahn, etc. was a shot by Tubs.
I don't think that was a shot at all.
Houston Nutt didn't like Gus.
we disagree
No we don't.
Wait, yes we do.
If it was a shot, it was a weak shot.
I think he was just commenting on the staff. Tub and Nutt are friends so I'm sure he's heard Nutt's side before.
Ive never been able to stand Houston Nutt. When the story came out about Yella Fella calling Nutt, I was livid. Not about getting rid of Tubs, but NUTT??? Come on...
"Dumb boys have their uses" huh zookeeper?
Is that like dumb jock dumb or headbanger dumb?
Why don't we do a FOIA on Nutt's phone records, and see what he's really thinking?
Sorry, I was still thinking about Jason and Eggs....ok where are we?
Tubbsss is way too media aware to just make some casual comment about the new Auburn coaching staff. If he wanted to do the typical coaches supporting other coaches speak he wouldn't have commented on Nutts like of Malzahn one way or the other.
Yes, faker.
Good to see you here, btw. Your avatar has ruined my Jason/Eggs moos however.
You're cracking me up, K.
moos? WTH? *mood
you bought the cow college tshirt didnt you
Truth is, Kristina, you treat men like livestock.
No, I was just trying to see how stupid they really were. Wonder if I get could a guy to moo?
Tub was complimentary about everything going on at Auburn and just said that Gus was a wildcard because he was unproven at the SEC level. Maybe he got that minor shot in for his friend Nutt, but I don't think it was a knock on Auburn or really Gus.
I don't see where he said anything inaccurate or anything that was bad at all.
I was actually surprised how complimentary he was about the new staff and the direction Auburn is going.
You are right, we disagree.
I bet you could, Kristina.
YOu could probably get some of these bozos to squeal like a pig.
cute how Jet excludes himself there...
Rumor has it that smart bammers are the most useful guys of all! At least that was my pickup line years ago.
Where is j-z? There is plenty of ammo around here for him to embarrass himself.
Smart bammer is an oxymoron.
C'mon Monica, you know I bray like a jack@$$.
Guys will say or do most anything if you ask them at the right time. Its all about the timing. We're really very simple creatures
Just kidding about the mooing stuff. I have no desire to degrade the opposite sex....
You're invited to my next tailgate, Zteven.
I have my standards. I will bark like a dog, but I will not moo.
Kristina ...
That's what I told Mrs. Jet when I wanted to buy her a couple of "upgrades."
I've never moo'd for a woman. I have embarrassed myself though.
I was in the pool! I was in the pool!
Just kidding.
Thanks, Mon... I'll be there!
I just got a new twitter from StuffMyDadSays. It says "it's just a (Bleeping) june bug, calm down. Jesus Christ, what happens when something bigger than a testicle attacks you?"
June Bugs are vile creatures. Can't trust 'em.
It's also embarrassing to hear a grown man beg....especially when you are that grown man!
Trying soooo hard to not comment....
moo
I am officially at peace with Eurasia again.
Daily lurking......supposed to be working.
Just can't talk until after the game. I just can't be suckered in again and will just have to wait for the first win.
One thing I will not do is BOO the team.
That's low for college players.
Pro players - that's different on some levels.
Just saying, gloom and doom aside, no need to Boo the kids.
Now back to your regularly scheduled discussion of hot dudes, vampires, and UAT hate.
Well, we've worked this thread in a position for you, Norm, the Stud Horse, to do that voodoo that you do so well.
Monica
Can I bring some dumb pretty boys to the tailgate for Kristina? ;)
Zteven, I am sure neither I nor Monica will turn down pretty boys coming to tailgate...Monica?
We want Norm!
Jet - I shall not disappoint.
So when am I tailgating with Kristina & Monica?
I can be bought. I'm assume that my attendance at the tailgate will include a ticket to the game?
Just so we're clear - the game we're actually tailgating for. I won't be burned again.
Looks like this flip is also up to me.
i'm still a free agent for tailgating this weekend. any decent offers out there?
I can handle it.
he's carrying the load for all of HABOTN!
You folks just relax.
I'm Will not be at zookeeper or monicas tailgate
A few more minutes before my next con-call.
Is it 400 yet?
And
here we are.
drat!
Stupid Scottie B.
"Smack it up, flip it...."
:( i know, i know.
