Days to kickoff: 3
Our Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute is brought to you by the number:
3
How many times do I have to remind you, do your school work first!
Three of our nominees received All-SEC honors during their Auburn careers, but only one was selected Academic All-SEC.
* Jorge Portela: Miami, Fla.; PK 1977-79; ALL-SEC in 1977; ACADEMIC ALL-SEC in 1978 & 1979 with a major in electrical engineering. Ranks in Auburn's Top 10 in career scoring and FGs made. His longest made FG: 52 yards. His best game came during his sophomore year when his five FGs, including a 51-yard kick, enabled Charlie Trotman to emerge a winner in his first start at quarterback. The Tigers entered that Oct 29, 1977, game against the Florida Gators as underdogs, sporting a 3-4 record. John Crane had started the first seven games. Coach Doug Barfield decided to play Trotman for a while, but Trotman had other ideas. He played well enough to stay in the entire game, completing nine of his 14 passes for 177 yards and a TD. Jorge Portela's five FGs provided the margin of victory as the Tigers downed the Gators, 29-14.
Jorge Portela is the son of Cuban refugees. Jorge's niece, Lindsay Portela, signed a LOI to compete in equestrian and recently arrived for her freshman year on the Plains.
HONORABLE MENTION
Gardner Jett: Atlanta, Ga.; PK 1970-72; ALL-SEC in 1970. His 42-yard FG with less than 10 minutes to play put Auburn on the board in the 1972 Iron Bowl. His 2nd PAT put Auburn ahead, 17-16. It was one of the most memorable days of my life, and I believe the FG was the longest of Mr. Jett's AU career to that point.
He nailed a 52-yard kick during the 1972 Gator Bowl as Auburn trounced the Colorado Buffaloes 24-3.
* Kevin Porter: Warner Robins, Ga.; CB 1984-87; ALL-SEC in 1987.
* Al Del Greco: Key Biscayne, Fla.; PK 1980-83; a solid kicker who won the 1984 Sugar Bowl with 3 FGs as Auburn defeated the Michigan Wolverines, 9-7. He ranks in Auburn's Top 10 in career scoring and FGs made. His longest FG at AU: 52 yards. He had even greater success in the NFL, playing 17 seasons with the Packers, Cardinals, and Oilers/Titans. Al spends a lot of his time on the radio these days, as does the man who overshadowed him in the SEC, Georgia's Kevin Butler.
* Rusty Williams - Moncks Corner, S.C.; RB 1996-99; led Auburn in rushing in 1996 and 1997, with a total of 716 yards during those two years.

Back in a bit. Someone upstairs is still awake and in dire need of a stern look.
ok, page flipped and I got to see the magnificent performance by page-turning Norm. Must get back to work now.
Trooper Taylor says to expect to see DeAngelo Benton, Emory Blake, Travante Stallworth and Anthony Gulley all to see action.
Fair Warning -
This is worse than getting
Rick Rolld.
(my wife is digging this right now)
A LOT of freshmen will be playing Saturday.
ehyou who is that in your avatar?
Kathy .. CTT did not seem as high on the guys tonight did he... Sounds kinda weird or is it just me?
Looks like David Grohl...??
I am SO happy to have my NatGeo channel back!
A young Merle Haggard?
omg it's a young Waylon!
ehyou you pay close attention - that is so hawt
Storm, sounds like we have a lot of lingering injuries, and no he didn't seem too high on them today.
I am watching America's Got Talent and the muppets are on. Who would ever think the muppets could seem lame?
Steve new show on Sat night. Hope everyone can watch Introducing AUBURNS GOT TALENT........
No big red X's....... Just TD's
most everyone can't watch. Isn't it on CSS?
oops, I was thinking about the other show. I'm slow. I should get back to work.
judges will be Monica,Kathy and a special surprise judge
I had a great dream this afternoon and I woke totally excited about football and Fall. I even broke out the Fall candles. That's a big deal ya know. Also, by 6:30 we had loooong shadows. I so love this time of year. This Saturday's menu is set. Cook-all-day Chili and cornbread muffins.
Monica will you be at the game?
i went to the beach, laid out, bout to eat a salad with some fried goat cheese on it, gone be goooooooooood
Sadly, Storm, I will be here in West Virginia watching it on television. At least I'll be able to watch!
i'll have to work, labor day weekend we ought to be busy, i'll have it dvr'd and will be brimming with anticipation for the late night watch.
634
635
See, I get it now. :-)
Hi everyone. Wow, you guys have been up to some serious posting. Have we talked ourselves into an easy win yet?
Catchy moniker, huh? That menas I would probably have to set up another account in g-mail, and find a picture worthy, etc... I'll consider it, but for now, just think of me as the stuffy suit guy! And don't think IVJR will stick. IV's siblings wanted me to be V... Oh, and last year at the college gameday, this was my sign...
http://s226.photobucket.com/albums/dd310/gainser71/?action=view¤t=IMG00034.jpg
Nicely done Mon.
I think the last time the numbers were this high. I was in trouble by JGT with others for hitting the 1000 mark.
639
640 or 641?
ha
The RVs are pouring in I hear
Okay, who will Auburn play in the SECCG?
Did you guys see where McFadden compared our freshman safety Bates to Junior Rosegreen. Said he was basically a headhunter. Now THAT would be good news.
Yea, I am looking for Bates to knock someone out.
Another Rosegreen, SWEEEEEEET
And can you actually believe that Dee Ford will play at Defensive end? Thats hard to believe.
Daughter called to say there were MANY Rv's on campus today. We are going over Friday to mark a spot for the party. hope to see some of you over there.
A 220 pound DE is ridiculous. I believe Jay was right when he said one of the linemen would likely slide over.
Alright, it took a bit more than a stern look.
I get back just in time to see the lead story on the local 10p news. Police in Toccoa, GA have shot and killed a local pastor. This will likely not end well.
I hope we are able to get a sizeable lead early. I really don't want to see our depth tested.
Rusty Williams? C'mon, seriously? Did we even have "skill players" those years. Wow i'm trying to think of his name the RB back then who was supposed be be the next Bo. Demontray Carter maybe #1. Those days kinda remind me of the days of now. But as Chizik once said he has a "blueprint".
From what I have read, they will substitute as much as they can during the game to keep the starters healthy for the 4th quarter. Roof basically said he was going to be very selective of who he substituted based upon who was on the field.
Miller, those days were very bad. It wasn't just the RBs. They weren't terrible. The offensive line wasn't that good at run blocking.
THT, I hope you have put together a map of all the Hottie's locations. I might be going down to the game alone. Of course I won't be going at all if my daughter doesn't get well soon. I usually park at the First Baptist Church on College Street, but they aren't doing season parking this year. It's first come, first serve, so I might have to find somewhere else to park. I park and walk and enjoy the campus and all the sights and sounds. I'll be getting home early Sunday morning. It's a 3 1/2 hour drive on a good day.
And there is no comparison between the late Bowden years and now. Yea, we made it to the SECCG his next to last season, but we were all Criag. The talent wasn't that great.
Got my ESPNU ordered and ready to rock and me and the wife are grilling steaks and drinking Coors Light for the game- GOOD TIMES
Lattimore on Auburn
Seems like a nice kid.
Bowdens last years were so devoid of talent its almost incomprehensible.
Craig. I would think you would drink Miller?
sponge,
Any idea on how long Antoine Carter will be out?
Anyone else watching AU v TAMU in the 86 Sugar bowl? Bo Jackson's last game and for Auburn. I dont know who won the game but TAMU looks like they have our number at the moment.
BigCat, it only gets worse.
Oh no!! Ok I gotta watch something else then!
Monica thanks for the vid! Was that a Freudian slip by Lattimore.." I LOVE..um I like Auburn"?
V, Good call on removing that awful stache...I'd love to borrow it for 70s porn day, though. :-)
waaaaaaayyy worse, BigCat
$10 says UAT is clipping a coupon out of a flyer at the Castleberry rest area on I-65 that has deep sea fishing "two for $19.95" and that will be the end of Mark and Julio down by the boat yard.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Kathy, I posted google map links to Cincy's and Luv's tailgate spots the other day. I'll track them down and repost tomorrow and add Kristina and AUFan. I don't remember/know where Harrison or others will be.
Depressed. I have no idea on Hot Carter. I haven't been able to find out much. Less info coming out lately. I think his knee is problematic, but don't know if that is the issue.
Yea, THT, I saw those two the other day.
"I'm on my way, I don't know where I'm going"
I'm going back to work :-(
Jetson. I also heard several of the UAT players were selling signed footballs for 50 washingtons apiece in north alabama, allegedly. Notice how many little violations are coming out regarding the tide. I think they are addressing these one at a time to soften the inevitable blow. smart, that saben.
Have fun Tar. sux we can't win the lotto.
Sponge - some coworkers & I just formed a lottery pool. I'll be in the dough in no time.
Norm. I once won a "Moosehead is the best Head" t-shirt at the florabama lounge. That is the crowning moment of my luck. No matter how many lotto tickets I buy, I never have more than two numbers correct.
Kathy,
You are welcome to join us if you don't want to tailgate by yourself. There is parking at the church at the corner of Donahue and West Glenn. Our condo is on West Glenn, Glenn Oaks Condominiums. We will have breakfast at the condo and then go to the tailgate. Email me if you want more info. We'd love to have you join us. It will be me, hubby, daughter & son-in-law, in-laws, son, 2 dogs and who knows who else.
Have any of you watched the illusionist Chris Angel on his TV show. He does some pretty amazing stuff.
Cincy ... i'll be a block away from you at thomaston parc apartments at Elturbo's pad.
Someone like Jet should get a map of everyone's location and maybe I will see him sometime this week and can get it. I am not sure where we will be. Wife is going over Friday and looking at the Ag Hayfield.
I was offered two scholarship seats today so I may not be as close as my tix have me. 25 rows up on the 40 and all the food I can handle may be too much to pass up.
Yall have a nice night. safe travels to the game. I was going to the lake/game and a member of the family got the swine flu. I'll be watching from home.
Thanks Cincy for the invite. I might come by for a quick hello.
Sponge, I'm waiting for test results now on my daughter. I might be in the same situation as you. She is really, really sick right now.
IV here,
Been lurking and am amazed at the excitement level tonight with you guys. I can't imagine what the campfires will be like tomorrow. I think that I will just read and enjoy your excitement. It's almost here. WAR EAGLE, beat Tech.
Good luck Kathy. I hear most cases are over fairly quickly. I'm out.
What up tonight folks? lets roll
Kathy ... prayers for your daughter. prayers for everybody, for that matter.
I sure hope all of the sick folks that have been mentioned tonight get better real soon.
i see ehyou was cracking on me for messing up a page turn. thanks. Norm already called me stupid. i take full responsibility for that. never mess with the master. i learned my lesson. :)
Luv, ain't nothing wrong with old folks sitting around eating all day. email me a menu and we can negotiate a time slot. ha.
will someone check SFC's medication? i think he lost it with his 8:50 post.
IV you ain't seen nothing until a campfire. I have to take my vertigo meds before they start! They move FAST. I usually just read. By the time I've typed up something, they've moved on to 5 or 6 other topics.
How the heck am I supposed to read 700+ posts??
Can I please get a summarization?
Scottie B - please forgive the stupid remark. I was crushed and my emotions got the better of me.
hopefully we'll see some offense on saturday and everyone will feel at least a little better
THT - I said awhile ago that while I may be awake at 11:30 eastern, I would not be sitting here. So, man of my word that I am, I'm shutting it down for the night. Y'all take it to 800+ without me. Go for it Scottie B, it's all yours.
Keep Hate Alive
Norm, it's all good cuz.
how about this....

700!
i win!
7 double oh
always a poast behind
so ummm 2 days
BinOBA, at first glance your picture always looks like Han Solo riding a Tantaun on Hoth to me.
random.
sorry.
it's late here in TN. nite.
Kathy,
I have lurked at a couple of campfires and I know the speed of things that you talked about. That is another reason I probably will just lurk tomorrow since I type at the speed of a snail.
Jet Notes for DMiller.
"We had a real good day of practice. We'll polish up tomorrow and Friday, and hopefully will be ready to peak on Saturday.
"We're tired of hitting on each other, so I think from standpoint, it's time to have a game.
"We've gotten good leadership from our seniors. I'm particularly pleased with THT and IV. Digger's been coming on for us, too.
"But we're going to have to get some quality production out of our newcomers -- folks like Gaines, Storm, and some of the others.
"There's some people who been a part of the program for a while like Seanzie, Sponge and CincyTiger. I think they're ready for the next step.
"We're looking for a big crowd Saturday night, wearing orange and blue. Expect some solid tailgating, some loud cheering, and some snappy commentary.
"We'll have our normal Thursday campfire tomorrow night, and that will essentially wrapup our preparations. Questions?"
Wow...I missed a $*!%load today. It was a good day in j-z world today though. We're gonna hang 50+ on them. Yeah...I've got a kool-aid IV.
And for the record... Moo.
Sup J-Z?
Where did you go?
Dang, a J-Z hit and run.
I was catching up on some facebook stuff. What are you still doing up this late?
We all should be in bed.
Waiting for THT to post his honoree for day 2. Did you get my e-mail?
I'll get it at work in the morning probably.
Our Lions have alot of work to do especially on offense.
North Gwinnette's QB was impressive and he is just a junior.
HAPPY NEIL O'DONOGHUE DAY!
Just kidding.
Our QB, not so much. Also, the o line as usual needs work.
Good night to the HOTTITHESIOLOGISTS.
I think Jet has a good idea. My eyelids are getting heavy, heavy, heavy. Goodnight to those still here.
Very good synopsis Jet!
Thanks, Jet
I regretfully announce that I have been handed a 1 game suspension for the opener vs La Tech for violation of team rules.
Guess I should call it a night. Headed to Auburn tomorrow evening! I hate that I will probably miss the campfire tomorrow night. Not going to have computer access I am afraid. Hopefully I can do the one in the afternoon if we still have it. Night friends.
Prattville's O line was really bad, but I'd say 5 of the 8 sacks or so were nobody's fault but the QB's. We'll be ok in region play, but I don't see a state championship in our future this year.
Night Cincy. Safe trip to Auburn.
DON'T FORGET!!!

DAY 2
HAPPY BEN OBOMANU DAY!!!
Ben Obomanu - Selma, AL; WR 2002-05; ACADEMIC ALL-SEC in 2003 & 2004; Auburn's leading receiver in 2005. Despite the drop vs Ole Miss, Ben ranks 2nd in career TD receptions with 18, one ahead of Karsten Bailey and 11 behind Terry Beasley. Ben ranks 8th in career receptions and 13th in career receiving yards.
HONORABLE MENTION:
Willie Gosha - Ft. Walton, FL; WR 1993-96; tied with Frank Sanders for most receptions (58) in one season; Willie holds AU single game record for receptions (17 vs Arkansas) and is also tied for 3rd (10 vs Army); his 222 receiving yards vs Arkansas is 3rd highest total in AU history. You can read Willie's story in the May 1996 issue of Inside the Auburn Tigers magazine.
Tim Carter - St. Petersburg, FL; WR 1998-2001; Auburn's leading receiver in 2001 and leading kickoff returner in 2000. He had a 100 yard KO return for TD vs LSU in 2000.
Chuck Clanton - Pensacola, FL; CB 1980-82
Otis Mounds - Ft. Lauderdale, FL; TB 1991-94
Cornelis Joseph Dennis "Neil" O'Donoghue - Dublin, Ireland; PK 1975-76; ALL-AMERICAN in 1976; Neil still holds AU record for longest FG, 57 yards, set in 1976 vs Tennessee (since matched by Philip Yost); This tall, lanky Irishman, standing over 6'6" in height, was playing soccer at St. Bernard College in Cullman, AL, in the 1970s. When the school eliminated their soccer program, Neil transferred to Auburn and kicked the prolate spheroid for two years, parlaying that experience into a 9 year NFL career. At Auburn, he participated in only the 3rd football game he had ever seen.
One day early HONORABLE MENTION:
Devin Aromashadu - Miami, FL; WR 2002-05; Devin ranks 5th all-time in career yards per reception.
WARRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
GO TIGERS!!!
Sorry, Mr. Obomanu, but it looks like I've introduced you to a dead thread.

College Football starts TONIGHT!!!!!
Happy Ben Obomanu Day!
It's early.
Helllllooooooooo
Echo echo echo
Good morning, Hotties and Happy Ben Obmanu Day! I was going to change my avatar to a picture I took of him back in '04, but I didn't think about it until this morning and then I didn't have time.
CFB season has arrived!! WDE!!!
Did you know that Chick Fil A doesn't open until 6:30 on Obomanu day? Most indubitably a failure on their part.
Good morning Hotties!!!
I slept late this morning since I didn't get to bed until 2:30 EDT. What have I missed?
PF - what on earth were you up all night for?
Hi Luv - your pups avatar is just fine.
PF- now you've got me saying "indubitably" over and over.
My honorable mention goes to Corey Lewis.
Lewis was from Gallatin, TN and at Auburn from 89-92 I believe. He was in the 3 way battle with Stan White and Frank McIntosh for the starting QB job that White eventually won. He would be White's back up for a couple of years.
Corey lived in Ooltewah right outside of Chattanooga for a while after he graduated. Unfortunately leukemia took his life far too early about 10 years ago at age 31.
So to me it's Corey Lewis day!
I just realized I had the 727 and 757 posts, PF had 747 post, PF had 737 and 747 posts.
Conclusion: Jet's a slackard.
oops, I repeated myself when I went back to check the math. I think it's time for some of that Georgia Coffee that Sean brews so well.
DMiller ...
We don't suspend anyone at HABOTN ... we're forgive and forget folks here.
hot dog, there he is. He's got another chance coming up. Good morning, fine sir!
According to Wiki, Neil O'Dononghue, who was 6-foot-6, was able to head the ball to himself down the soccer field while playing at St. Bernard College. Of course, it's hard to imagine there were great soccer players at schools in the South in the 1970s to challenge Neil.
He also holds the distinction of missing three FG attempts in overtime in NFL game, leaving the Cardinals in a tie with the Bills.
RK- Nice Corely Lewis reference. I had no idea he live in Ooltewah.
Speaking of my Owls, I hope they get better from their last game. The 7-6 snoozer is not good enough.
2 Freakin' days till AUBURN Football, but I'll be jacked tonight when I get to see South Carolina kick off the college football season. Let the fun start.
I wonder if we'll hit 800 before Writer Tate awakens.
Yeah, I don't think Jay G has the energy to slow this baby down right now.
ok, so maybe Jet is more of an Airbus kind of guy.
When THTJr and i were tossing the football, I would refer to them as Obomanus. Drops is definitely easier to say.
NO DROPS!!!
Think I can shower, dress and make it to a press conference downtown by 10:00 a.m. EST?????
NO DROPS!!!!!!!
Walked past the AFROTC students running this morning.
They were singing through the fight song.
War Eagle!
You can't stop us ... you can't even hope to contain us.
We're H1N1, baby!
Morning, hotties. Must hurry to elliptical and get to meeting this morning. But, I will be on the Plains tonight!!!
Have an AUsome day today!
By the way, Walk of Shame points to Mike Tankersley who sounded like a kid talking about his momma yesterday on Finebaum while recounting Terry Saban's visit to the capital city.
Look, we all know you are a Bammer, but show some objectivity, man. Good grief!
you can do it Mon. NO DROPS!
Good morning Hotties!! The advent of College Football has ended, we are but in the final hours of the offseason. Auburn starts in 2 days and they will be the longest 2 days of this week guaranteed.
Morning Hotties! Football tonight!
My daughter's temp is down to 101 this morning and she actually has slept for five hours. Hopefully the worse of this is behind her.
To all those early arrivers to Auburn, War Eagle and be safe!
since college football starts in 10 hours, and 21 minutes from now, you know what that means?
today i am ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS. they should just send me home. :)
Seriously Scottie, I'm with ya there. I'm pretty sure that it's going to be a battle to get any work done.
yeah, nothing is getting done today.
well, maybe my shopping/travel lists for this weekend. but that's it!
my plans did change a bit. i am no longer bringing my dog Tucker. a friend of mine up here who is a Michigan fan (he grew up there) is coming with me. it is going to change his life.
Scottie, the Auburn experience will blow him away!
Luv, I don't have answers. Gameday's too close. I did get some sleep last night, I think. Who really remembers anything at this point. NO DROPS.
It's funny, while in school the weeks flew off the calendar getting to gameday.
Now that I'm not in school it seems like it takes forever. I don't like it.
Tucker's going to be heartbroken.
Scottie B- I've been absolutely worthless all week and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
Scottie- Will this experience change your friend's outlook more than a Rich Rodriguez Training Camp?
Scottie,
i hate Tucker won't get to meet Zeke & Nick.
Where the heck is Jay G????
Morning...foooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooootball
I don't know missinit, you think we can get it to 800 before he gets back?
Peter "Big Snacks" Frankenschmidt said...

Ok, I'm having a "Luv Moment." Why did you direct this at me, PF? I don't remember asking any questions.
We're hittin 800 folks! Let's see some movement.
ScottieB have you been to the doctor yet? Feeling better?
I finally got a gameday location settled, have a menu planned, it's all ready. All we need now is a game!
I'm trying not to be too optimistic, but it is very difficult. I think we have the coaches and players to get it done, as long as injuries don't deplete our already depleted depth.
I was wondering the same thing PF.
Where's Norm?
Goooood Morning Hotties!! I love the smell of football in the morning! It smells live VICTORY!!
I was working with my son's fall baseball team lastnight and working with the outfielders. We have a new mantra:
NO DROPS!!! And if they drop it 5 pushups and bad throw, 5 more.
798
799
800
Can you imagine what the campfire will be like!
I think the Hotties are getting anxious for kickoff.
Kathy - It is going to be FAH!!
Kathy with page turning prowess.
Honorable mention to the high school quarterback in MS who took that gun away from the girl on the school bus saving a lot of lives. He wears #2 in high school. I think he is a Miss State commit. Very brave young man.
I saw that on the news up here in Baltimore. That is CRAZY!!
Have you seen the new banners they put up at Jordan Hare? When the players end Tiger Walk, Bo Jackson will be staring down at them. Also a banner for Rocker. I'm so glad he has finally come home. I think Saturday will be a very emotional day for him too.
first!
Can you tell I'm getting excited about kickoff? I don't know what this season will bring, but I know that Auburn players and coaches have a new attitude which we needed.
Kathy, where did you see these banners?
go back to sleep micheal! It's not time yet.
