First post: Monday of Week Seven

Hey everyone. Thanks for your patience yesterday. Some displeasing air travel took me out of commission for long periods of time and created fatigue I typically don't battle on Sunday nights. I wanted to do a video. It just wasn't meant to be.

You can read below my story about Antonio Coleman that appeared in today's editions. I'll say right here, as I did in the comments section, that I don't believe Coleman is upset about team chemistry. He's upset about registering zero tackles during the past two games. He wants to be a bigger asset and he's not sure about how to do that.

So he's planning to speak with Chizik about it.

Here's the Auburn situation at this moment:

Jay G,

Hartline being out: Advantage or disadvantage for Auburn?

You didn't ask me but, advantage, it takes their best QB and best WR out of their respective positions.

Jay G., thanks for the note about AC and his point on this.

My question is this: shouldn't he start that with Tracy Rocker, then Ted Roof, then Chizik? Or has that already happened?

Just wondering.

Nice substance, RK.

Yeah, nice substance for a closet Bammer.

I keed.

As long as we don't have to get a different QB DURING the game, I think it is an advantage. Of course this is basing it on last year's group so that may be invalid now too.

RK- Had no idea about Rhea losing that many starters and getting bumped to 6A like that. That's a huge jump.

When you are funded by Wal Mart and Tyson Chicken you can usually make a stadium look pretty nice.

I had hoped we would not have this type game with this coaching staff and all the chemistry we had shown. But it happens and now they must show that they can suck it up and go forward and have a better year than anyone gave them a snowballs chance in hell of having.
We shall see.

Thanks Jay, I feel better about what AC is doing after reading your entire story in this morning's paper. I was a bit off in my thinking of what might be going on just from reading your comments in last night's thread. I can see that your analysis is more than likely spot on.

I didn't take AC's comments to have signified anything wrong with team unity, by the way. I was just commenting on how rosy everything is before a loss. It is obvious Coleman has been thinking there were some issues prior to losing, but now that the loss came it boiled over and ended up in print.

If I know Chiz (and I don't) I am thinking he is pretty annoyed that Coleman announced he would have a meeting with the head coach to try to sort some stuff out. Why tell reporters you are going to do that?

So anyone think we will see AC at linebacker this week?

10:01 AM
Blogger michael said...

Anyone else noticing the similarities between Senderrick Marks' 2008 season and AC's 2009 season? Seems like it is the kiss of death for an Auburn D lineman to be talked about all during the preseason. Maybe it has to do with being the focus of the other team's blocking schemes.

10:03 AM
Blogger Jet said...

Harrison ...

I concur wholeheartedly. Very nice town. Nice places to eat and meet. The people were very classy all the way throughout.

Michael ...

I concur wholeheartedly. Can't imagine Chiz is excited that AC is making statements about wanting to meet with the coach. Frustrated with lack of tackles? That's fair enough.

10:07 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Coleman has shown me something that other previous DE's we have had in that Coleman seems to want to learn to play the run instead of just rush the QB the whole time.

A fan is someone who has an intense, occasionally overwhelming liking and enthusiasm for a sporting club. That's me, just a fan. I don't play the game. I leave that up to 18-21 yr olds who work hard all year long in preparation. They do not go out on Saturdays to intentionally lose any game. Now they have to shake that loss off and prepare for another SEC foe. Let us do the same. Let's shake off this loss and move on to Kentucky. It's game week folks. War Eagle!!!

You guys need to quit complimenting Fayetteville. It is unbecoming of you. Just lie and say its another Starkville.

I mentioned that in the previous thread that it's probably not good if he is going above his position coach, his coordinator straight to his HC and it's probably even worse that he took those thoughts to the media...no matter how well intended his actions are.

10:11 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

But how do we know he's gone above the rest of them, that's just speculation.

10:13 AM

I love Coleman. I would call him a true Auburn Man if I didn't think it was cheesy. I can't imagine playing on the d line with a hurt wrist. I hope he turns his season around.

Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Who think's coleman will be off the available players list for interviews in the future?

10:14 AM
Blogger michael said...

All he mentioned was Chizik, Sean, so it at least appears he is going over the other coaches. It is probably not true, I am sure the other coaches are involved, but for a coach like Chizik who very much cares about appearance, his statements must be annoying.

I don't think he will be disciplined or anything, I just think Chiz will be like "Cool out and just come to me next time without telling the reporters, k?"

10:16 AM
Blogger michael said...

haha, good call Eddie.

10:16 AM

I think he is going to the HC as a team leader and not specifically as a DE. If this is the case, I don't see it as an issue, him going to the HC.

It's Kristina's fault. 100%. No doubt about it.

10:26 AM
Blogger michael said...

Yeah, I think Kristina and Sensi definitely share the blame here. Maybe 40% of this loss is on each of them. 1% is on Todd, 1% is on Jay G Tate, .2% is on Jay's cousin Ben G Tate, and 12% is on Hoopie, and 12% is on rk. Also, the rest of the Hotties are responsible for about 13%. I am responsible for 0%. It is fans like me that make winning possible.

10:28 AM
Blogger Jet said...

Jay G ...

The genesis of the kids having Columbus Day off was that the teachers were required to have two in-service days during the year, and this one always coincided with the Fair ... it was called "Fair Day" here, and Columbus Day is a state-federal holiday.

10:33 AM
Blogger michael said...

rk, I think your postgame reaction, which I have not personally read, probably had a lot to do with the loss. Maybe 8%. The other 7% came prior to the game to give you a total of 12%.

10:33 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I take no responsibility for as I neither coached nor played in the game.

I picked based on information I read, assumptions I made, and games I watched.

10:34 AM

10:44 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Well since Hoopie has dictated that I'm not allowed to defend myself, I guess I should just say nothing. I won't, but I should since he has some kind of power over what we say apparently.

However your definition of "jumped all over" and mine are a little different.

I read the comments and posted my opinion that from what I read and I even said I wasn't sure if this was good or not. Go back and look, or just overreact like apparently I did then you did to my overreaction. It's a trend, huh?

Then you can also look that once it was clarified that it made more sense.

Oh wait, you told me I couldn't use that as a defense.

I guess I forgot I needed to post following your rules that haven't been sent out to everyone else.

"If I really cared"

That's funny.

Blogger michael said...

Hoopie, I am looking at last nights posts... I can't find one where he trashes AC. The only questionable comment I see is this:

"Looks like AC doesn't care about the "student" part of "student-athlete"."

I agree that is a little bit out of line, but it is not like all the other stuff was out of the norm acidic or anything.

10:45 AM

Hoopie, you called out this post in particular last night:

"Someone tell AC to tell Chiz that apparently if you throw the ball just a little bit over Neiko Thorpe it means big yardage.

Also, tell him that pursuit angels need some work."

I thought that was pretty funny. If we can't make lighthearted jokes about a loss, then are we any better than bammers?

I'll take the .06% blame because I wasn't wearing the right game day shirt, and by the time I put it on, it was too late. By the time I stopped watching the game, the team was then allowed to start playing well, but it was also too late to have an effect. Sorry about that gang.
The new prototype helmet is now 5-1.

10:52 AM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

i think it was JG, but someone asked him about being graded on his assignments and what he thought about them. AC responded that Coach Rock didn't care about 'grades' in the game film. he then made the comment you can go to Haley Center if you care about grades. if he would've said it in a joking manner it would've been pretty funny. however, he said it plainly b/c he wasn't in a super-peppy mood.

i think it has been taken out of context. go to Goldberg's blog & watch the video.

No Kathy. It was because Peterno saw Thorpe unable to defend against pass, and that's why they kept throwing his way and won the game. And Antonio Coleman, he just doesn't care about the 'Student' part of Student Athlete. And Zeimba is ill-disciplined, and habitual of drawing penalties.

Discord on the HABOTN. Its a challenge for me to maintain my sunny disposition under such circumstances.

I think I will just contribute something to the coaching criticism while so many are still mad about something.

Why was Kodi in at QB on the 3rd play of the game on 3rd and long? ARK had to know that he wasn't going to throw the ball down the field. It had to be either a run or a screen. I didn't understand that play at all. It kinda set the tone for the game.

Anybody got a guess as to what they were trying to do?

Is Todd hurt? Watching on tv, his passes seemed to lack the velocity they've had earlier. Did anybody at the game notice that, or is it my imagination?

Good save by Sensi to deflect criticism by predicting us to beat KY on Monday.

coosa - I am not too worried about Todd's arm strength. On his worst throw of the day, he overthrew Zachery by 7 yards on a bomb. Could he have done that last year? Just chalk it up to a bad game. He'll bounce back.

12:24 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Yeah, it's IV's fault. I can go with that. It's probably his fault too that ATL is gonna flood again this week. Old people. Sheesh.

Blogger coosa said...

That last sentence of mine wasn't very clear - I meant that it was smart of Sensi to come out on Monday morning and predict an AU win on Saturday.

I'm not sure where my mind is at.

But, hopefully, you all understand what I'm striving for.

And that is clear communication in any situation I may find myself in.

Aero is right - we have moved up in the world. Last year we had to say, "At least we are not Michigan". UGA's success this season is a step up from Michigan's last year. Progress!

Georgia will just go claim chattanooga and the TN river to get water :).

Somebody else mentioned Todd's arm strength to me, but it looked fine from what I could see on TV.

12:38 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Eddie,

Georgia has already made attempts at that as I'm sure you know.

I didn't notice any difference in Todd's arm strength, just that he didn't have the time that he had in previous weeks and that when he did have time our receivers were well covered.

Apparently according to Ark's D-coordinator after viewing film last week, we had a lot of trends that tipped what plays we were going to run in certain situations.

12:41 PM
Blogger Kathy said...

Funny how Ark's D-coordinator noticed that on film but Monty Kiffin didn't. Not sure I buy that one.

RK..So in your world...it's OK for you to call out a player on a team that you "support" with impetuous cynism, but when someone calls you out for doing so, they're "exerting power over your comments"?

I originally asked if you were going to apologize for your impetuous cynicism. You have been so busy getting your feelings hurt and trying to diffuse that issue, you never answered that question.

I'll take a shot at some of your impetuous cynicism.. You sure are thin-skinned...why does it even bother you. After all..these are only comments..right? I mean you're willing to spit at players without compunction, but someone asks you about it and you employ the double standard that it's OK for you to spit at others, but not for them to challenge you because they are limiting comments? That logic sounds like an impetuous poorly thought out response....OK.... get the idea?

Hoopie,

In my world this is a blog where we can make comments and have fun. Both of us are included in that strange weird world.

Actually my apology was in here earlier as I told everyone I regreted that my comments have caused the reactions they have caused. Who would I owe an apology to anyway? Jay G since it's his blog?

You posted questions and comments for me and I responded. Then you call me thin skinned for responding. I assure you my feelings aren't hurt. I'm not thin skinned at all. You called me out for posting something you didn't like, I responded, you responded, I responded...it is a trend. Funny how you question my loyalties and call me thin skinned, but all I have done is answer what you have asked and done it without calling you names.

Yeah, I get the idea of a poorly thought out response, I've read a few today.

Aero,

I didn't call you silly, I called your response to Kathy's post silly. She isn't a part of your apparent issue with what I posted. She was talking about Tiger Walk and you had to drop the items that you seem to dislike that I've brought up over the past month. That was silly.

Watchful of what? Should I step on egg shells on here because two people apparently disagree with my observations?

I haven't seen anything unreasonable posted in the comments section.

Some HOTTIES are more critical than others. Some have a dry sense of humor that maybe doesn't flow as well in written form.

Either way, everyone here (aside from FSJ) is bound by their interest in and affinity for Auburn. People express that in different ways.

One HABOTN.

For all the discord in here the past couple of days:

Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you don't let show

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me

So just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on

Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

Lean on me...

As for Saturday, there's plenty too be displeased about. We were flat, we didn't execute, we're a flawed team, but we can overcome those flaws if we play well. We didn't play well. It happens. Miami loses to Virginia Tech one week 31-7 and then beats Oklahoma the next. Oregon looks just god awful against Boise St. one week and a month later they're the best team in the Pac-10. That's college fooball. Ya move on.
