First post: Wednesday of Week Seven
Hey everyone. I hope you enjoyed yesterday's video. I like talking with the players about fun stuff because that's when you get the best insight into who they are. Josh Bynes' little chat about how often he plays ... that's what he's really like.
Same for Mario. He's always laughing and telling stories, though I'd never consider him gregarious. He's a behind-the-scenes joker.
We had some HOTTIES ask in a previous thread about why Ted Roof doesn't blitz very often. I'll have a story in tomorrow's edition about that. For now, I'll ask you: Who do you want blitzing? Bynes and Craig Stevens play every snap of every game as it is. They're not ideal blitz candidates.
The cornerbacks, as we saw last week, need support from the safeties. So safeties will be used only sparingly as blitzers. Until those corners step up and show they can handle everything in man, Roof will have to play conservatively.
As Gene Chizik would say, that's just where they're at.
Here's the Auburn situation at this moment:

I promise I read the entire post before posting nonsense, Jay.
Me, toao;teqfqpfq[
RK makes me sad.
Will someone nuzzle me?
Awwww, come over here, PF. Get a nuzzlin!
Where has j-z been? He's a big-time man-nuzzler.
The answer to the lack of blitzing is simple.
Play 14 on defense.
If blitzing means someone is left on an island, then it begs the question.
If you had to be left on an island with someone, would it be:
a. Mary Ann
b. Ginger
c. Neiko
d. Walt
Jet- Cap'n Morgan would be my choice.
Again, I understand the philosophy, but you were just picked apart by Crompton one week and Mallet the next. The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results (not really the definition of insanity. It's just a saying!) At the very least, bring in and extra D back in passing situations or against passing offenses, give Bynes and Stevens some rest, and blitz the d back. There are a billion different ways to blitz. Watch the NFL, heck, watch Alabama. It doesn't have to be your starting mike or sam (though I don't completely buy the excuse that they are too tired to blitz. Pass coverage is pretty tiring too if you are doing it right)
Ginger.
Red hair, famous, killer curves, what's not to like about Ginger?
Michael- Completely agree. I'd rather get beaten for a quick score on trying to blitz than have a 6 minute 10 play drive for the same outcome.
I still don't think Neiko's bad game was symptomatic of a corner who needs constant help. Good coverage, perfect passes, and bad plays on the ball are what I remember. Am I off on this? Do we all of a sudden think Neiko is a bad corner? I was just thinking "rough day", like Todd's fumbled snap and overthrow. Bad plays happen sometimes, that doesn't mean you need to game plan around Tood or Neiko as if they are a weakness now.
Mary Ann 100% by the way
Ginger's voice annoyed me, and I never thought she was prettier than Mary Ann. Only a bammer would pick Ginger, Sensi!
Also, we should probably stop calling out Gilligan's Island characters by name.
Mary Ann - overrated
Blitzing - underrated but hard to do when you don't have depth
Nobody say anything bad about individual players please. Feelings get hurt.
Big Snacks,
Sorry buddy.
Sensi,
Glad to see you are aboard the Kool Aid train.
I concur that Neiko's game, while bad, wasn't because he was overmatched. Ryan Mallett made some obscenely difficult throws that simply weren't defendable.
Sensi can't bring himself to pick UK over AU, so does the next worst thing...Ginger over Mary Ann.
Jet, the correct answer to the stranded on an island with question is Eliza Dushku.
I think Neiko is a good corner and with his size could be an All-SEC level corner, but I stand by my Petrino saw something he liked in his coveraged and abused him on Saturday comment.
I also want to say that I'm pissed about Aero leaving.
He's a cool guy and someone who was an important part of our enterprise. He said he needed to step back for a minute ... and at least one person kept goading him.
So, please, I ask again: Be nice to your fellow HOTTIES. You are bound by a love/interest in Auburn. There is no need to be rough with each other.
Observations ...
1. Mary Ann probably had some ganja in the hut, if you know what I mean. If that matters to anyone.
2. Neiko is not a bad corner. He is one of maybe 2-3 defenders we have that would have seen the field in 2004. He had rather solid coverage. Absent a pash rush, Mallett was able to put two down the elevator shaft to the wideout.
3. Ditto Walt.
4. With a new QB for Kentucky on Saturday, I wouldn't be opposed to Joe Lee Dunn being hired as a consultant to whip some crazy stuff. Or at least have Ted channel his inner Joe Lee. If only to give future opponents something to think about.
5. We don't seem to disguise ourselves well. It would be like Bill Clinton putting on a mask of Bill Clinton for Halloween.
I'd like to be on an island with Rose McGowan.
She might actually dig me if I was the only guy around.
Jay,
I hope you don't think I was goading Aero. That wasn't the case at all.
I'm not calling anyone out.
I'm asking for people to be nice. That's the key tenet of HABOTN life. Otherwise, we're just another outpost of hateful rhetoric.
I am sorry to see Aero go as well, but he was definitely on edge in general the past few days and did his fair share of instigating. Hopefully he comes back and everyone can be a happy family.
I'm just making sure.
I feel like I tried to do what I could to have a conversation with him and diffuse the issue and move on, but he wouldn't have it. Calling me a liar over me paraphrasing something I had said was a bit much, but I didn't take offense to it. The irony is he posted that he was wishing someone would run me off then he goes and then he leaves.
I wanted the guy to stay around too. I want him and Hoopie both to stay around even though they both seem to dislike me over nothing.
Fwiw, I agree with Micheal. I'll bet it's not too hard to get "on edge" where Aero is, though.
I also agree with Michael.
Rose McGowan?
That is an interesting choice there Jay.
RK...we bammers have to stick together.. :-P
Just kidding.
Good point.
Roll whatever it is you guys say.
That's an easy answer re: who should blitz.
Red rover, Red rover send ELTORO right over!
Listen to the first 5 minutes or so of this...
Some slight profanity...
YouTube Football Predictions
Some people shouldn't have webcams
He's almost as big of a wack job as the Bama guy.
put Gabe McKenzie back there and let him rush. he ain't got nothin' else to do.
Play FAH both ways. He'll get the the QB before the ball is snapped.
FSJ- Agreed. Every fan base has them unfortunately.
I think Gabe Mackenzie killed a coach's cat or something.
Wait, why am I not being blamed for Aero's departure? I feel an ambush coming.
ok, i'll bite.
i blame you PF. you and Telly Sevalas. why? wwhhhyyyy?????
PF, we would blame you, but I am fairly certain Aero, like so many others, didn't read your posts.
Michael has upset me with his first post so i'm taking a 5 minute break to reflect.
FSJ - I was bored by that video. Where is the screaming and the racial slurs? Ricky Rant it is not.
Is there something particularly funny I should skip to?
Let's talk about Eddie while he is gone.
We have five mins.
I have been looking for the perfect set of gibberish to make Eddie leave, and I am glad I finally figured it out! Eddie is such a bammer!
Aero just hung out and talked it up. I thought he was cool. I'm pissed he's not here.
Ok, upon my long reflection I realized that I missed this place. I'm back.....36-0!!!!
Why he is not here is his choice, I'm sure he'll cool off and come back.
I thought the guy was cool, apparently he didn't feel the same.
Oh that darn unrequented HABOTN love.
We didn't get enough talking about Eddie while he was gone.
Eddie & Sensi,
Listening to the show now. I won't make the mistake of missing it that I made last week.
Thanks RK. Hope you enjoy. Let us know if you enjoy the new format of the show.
Guys, the joke is on us. Everyone is hanging out at a new thread.
Onto bama news, apparnently they had a rivals staff reporter Matt Scalici that talks to recruits cause a big scene and uproar at the bama rivals site by posting this message:
Fired up
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry in advance about what I'm about to post. It's more than a little emotionally driven. Just gotta get this off my chest.
Holy hell, am I fired up. Look, I don't want to play the victim anymore. I'm tired of being offended and having my feelings hurt and asking "Why us?". The NCAA can run its mouth off about us all it wants but they know as well as we do that they don't have the balls to touch us.
I'm tired of listening to their preaching and the hypocrisy of every other program that wants to pretend that they wouldn't trade teams with us right this second if they could.
The time for Alabama fans to sit there and take punishment is over. It's our turn to give some out. We're giving out plenty on the field already and we will continue to bruise and batter every opponent with the misfortune of having us on their schedule this year. But what's going to be the sweetest part about seeing Coach Saban lift that crystal football into the air this January is the big giant middle finger that will represent to the NCAA. In their minds, we are the absolute poster boy for the way they don't want a program run. We care too much about football and we are willing to make sacrifices and do whatever it takes to be the best.
I'm still mulling it over, but I'm thinking about making a t-shirt to start wearing to games that says "SERIAL REPEAT VIOLATOR" in big white letters. What do you guys think? I think it says the NCAA can do whatever the hell it wants to us and we're still going to win the national championship because we are committed to being the best EVERY SINGLE YEAR and we don't tolerate failure or mediocrity like their little teacher's pets in the Midwest.
Maybe on the back I'll write "...unmatched by any other member institution in the NCAA." Damn right.
Rant over.
Sure Michael...like there is a new thread...oh, wait there is.
Yeah, we kind of had our own thing going over here. Maybe we should stay.
Michael,
We'll always have the "First post: Wednesday of Week Seven" thread, nobody will ever take that away from us.
