The latest from practice
Hey everyone. I have finished transcribing some interviews, including an epic chat with Walt McFadden, and my story for tomorrow.
So let's see what we learned today.

So let's see what we learned today.
- I saw LB Eltoro Freeman walking in a boot. Gene Chizik, as expected, had no comment on Freeman's prognosis or availability.
- You'll love this. How about OT Lee Ziemba talking about penalties: ``They’re killing us. We’ve got to stop committing those errors. It’s all about the fundamentals. If you do the fundamentals right you’re not going to commit those penalties."
- Walt McFadden on problems he had early in his career: ``(David Gibbs) told me I was going to the NFL. Most coaches tell you that cornerbacks have to tackle. He still had that NFL mentality. He said: 'You don't get paid to tackle. You guard guys.' When I started guarding guys, Coach Tub jumped on me for not tackling. I didn't know who to listen to. It kinda got to me. Coach Tub said I wasn't going to play until I started tackling. Gibbs was telling me I didn't have to tackle. I was doing what my coach told me. It set me back."
- TB Onterio McCalebb said he felt "real good" at practice today. He's been dealing with a high-ankle sprain.
- QB Chris Todd on today's emphasis at practice: ``The big thing is looking at all the details, fixing the little mistakes that kind of hurt ourselves on. And we made that a point today, and we’ll continue to do that, just not making mistakes and putting ourselves in bad situations.
- Gus Malzahn on the effect of (players) taking two days off: ``I think it helps a lot -- we have not had any off time at all to get our guys to mentally refresh. We had some tired guys, there’s no doubt, physically and mentally. As far as coaches, probably the same way. Anytime you’re playing a very good opponent the more time you have to prepare -- that will definitely help."
- McFadden told reporters last week that he thought A.J. Green and Julio Jones were the two best receivers in the league ... but that he liked one more than the other. Now he's coming clean: ``I like A.J. Green. He reminds me of a Randy Moss-type of receiver. Randy Moss -- I'm a big fan of his. I compare those two as receivers, so I kind of have to slide toward A.J. Green."

Welcome.
FAH feeling good, Ronnie Brown not so much.
It would be curious to see data on how many false starts Ziemba and McCain have had compared to other tackles in college football.
McFadden dissin Hulio Hones in favor of AJ Green. Ben Tate saying he's the best RB in the state. When are they going to learn what not to say?
I can't tell how many penalties those guys have drawn. The records are "incomplete."
a defensive player doesn't have to tackle? What on earth was Gibbs smoking?
Jay, do you have any reason to believe that the unidentified players are still on the team?
Ziemba, Ziemba, Ziemba,
was he on drugs?!
Thanks Jay, good reporting to break up the day of Eric Smith.
I may not be a medical doctor, but as HABOTN team physician, I'm thinking a boot is for foot problems, not a concussion. Doesn't sound good for Eltoro. Maybe like in '72 we'll have to play a TE at LB.
or maybe we can put Eric Smith at LB and he can go all decari on UA-T's RB.
I'd rather Eric line up at TB and go all Decari on his brother....oh, wait, his brother is buried on one of those mysterious things called a depth chart.
Writer Tate- please have a safe drive home. Thanks so much for this report.
#23 Ronnie B. is out for the season with a foot injury :-(
Thanks Jay for the great work of reporting as best you can as to what is going on with our Auburn Tigers. Keep up the good work.
Jay G with the first post!
Hey, Dr Habotn is back! So many alter egos, that one.
Was I stupid to assume that McFadden didn't reveal who he thought was better last week because he didn't want to give Georgia bulletin board material? Why keep it a secret that you respect your opponent? I mean, people say stuff like that even when they don't mean it just to not give bulletin board material.
late nite HATE.
carry on.
early night, late night, ALL NIGHT HATE!!!
Cherchez la femme.
Today's player quotes reinforce my belief that they say absolutely nothing that makes any sense. Also, the art of conversation is lost on today's youth. So maybe they don't know how to answer questions honestly in an interview. Give them a BlackBerry to text on or a Facebook Wall and they'd be WAY more straighforward and candid.
in the unlikely event that there is even one other Hottie as ignorant as I am, and who was equally confused by a literal translation of Coosa's remark, here's the scoop
I'm guessing Coosa was referring to the Eric Smith situation and not to tonight's practice report. Just a hunch.
Come on guys, you know you were all hovering 'round the HABOTN waiting on my comment(s).
yep, shesaid, no doubt about it... we were all cherchez la femme
HABOTN Fun Fact: I will be spending my Iron Bowl weekend in the Lexington Hotel. Yes, THAT hotel where Eric Smith gave that dude a knot on his head the size of a tennis ball and left him in a pool of blood. I sure hope that bar in the hotel is as fun as it was when it was "Benji's" back in the day.
Not to stir up the Tuberville fans, but shouldn't the DC and HC meet and, you know, maybe discuss what is being asked of the defensive players?
Yay, I killed the thread. I've always wanted to do that!
the thread lives, but vital signs are definitely not optimal.
someone start a dopamine drip!
Maybe it was the new ep of Top Chef. That's what I was doing the previous hour of my life.
AUFan - I don't think there's anybody to stir right now.
Shesaid - you'll have to do CPR or just go ahead and kill it. I'm calling it a night.
WARRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
GO TIGERS!!!
Excellent detective work, THT! I haven't been around lately, so sorry my comment was so out of place.
But why hasn't anyone asked the obvious question - who is the woman involved in the Eric Smith case? You know she is there, you know that's where the real story will be found.
Its been a very tiring week; I'll check back with ya'll tomorrow.
Cherchez la femme dans la nuit.
shesaid, that wasn't even close to killing the thread. The real thread killers can cause silence for up to an hour on HABOTN in the middle of the day.
You know, if someone made a literal pool of blood, I wonder if it would be easier or harder to swim in than water. Probably pretty similar since the experts say blood is mostly water. But as you all know, I don't really believe in that nonsense.
Michael, you can just charge me with attempted thread murder. Maybe a threadslaughter charge? I'll beat the rap either way.
shesaid left the thread in a pool of blood. Certainly JGT can sue for punitive damages?
Michael, they say blood is thicker than water, so I think it would be harder to swim... but possibly easier to float.
Quick, someone go find a Family Law attorney...we's gonna sue!!
THT ...
A friendly correction ... the TE to LB swap was in 1970 ... Ronnie Ross moved to defense.

Is it too late for Little Smith to change his commitment back to Auburn?
Did any reporters do a laughing cough when Ziemba said that?
That Tubbs versus Gibbs thing is scary. I can't imagine being a player and having to deal with that.
I am not really what to make of Ziemba's comments, but I believe it has something to do with a river in Egypt.
Jesus H. Christ. Dumbest Team in America. Our OT talks about penalties when he's the one causing alot of the penalties. Our corners are calling out the 1a or 1b best receiver in the league if not the country. Just keep your mouth shut when you've lost 4 games (one of which was Kentucky) Just keep quiet and COVER and TACKLE... DO BOTH WELL... what a great idea that would be.
Ok. here is something novel. How about a CB tackling AND guarding. Geez...we now know Gibbs was not a good fit on a college defense.
I thought we figured that out at the end of 05?
One of my old roommates worked with the team in 2005 and he said Gibbs was just weird and crazy in general.
Jay any predictions for the game this early?
Jet - thanks for setting the record straight. I knew it was a game we won!
Today is Long Commute Day. See y'all later.
oh, I forgot to say, "Good morning, Hotties!"
WARRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
GO TIGERS!!!
Hate UA-T!!!
I'm surprised that Gibbs talked to McFadden at all. I mean the guy seemed to like to avoid important conversations when the pressure was on him.
Mark,
I'll give you one.
Prediction? Pain.
Good Morning Hotties.
This is a drive-by Hottie Hooooo! Off to another busy day at work. Keep hate alive.
Here's a thought, maybe McFadden is trying to divert attention away from Thorpe! Maybe he is trying to get the match up on his side so the opposing team can quit running right by Neiko!
War Eagle!!!
Have I told you lately how much I HATE UAT?
Excellent thinking, Kathy!
The local rag -- Gumpitizer -- has in its entertainment section that the O'Jays will be performing in town.
I'm looking for a few HOTTIES to help me storm the stage and take the microphones to sing our version of their hit.
"People all over the world, join in! Join in! Join the HATE Train! HATE Train!"
Morning, Hotties!
Luv, how's the neck?
HATE!!!
That's all.
Mornin' all, what a great day to hate UAT with all of your heart, soul and fiber of your body. Go UT Chatt. win one for the good guys.
Warrrr Eagle!!!!!
Love Auburn.
Any predictions on where we play in a bowl game and who the likely opponent might be?
Well in the Iron Bowl, we'll play Alabama.
Beyond that, it's hard to guess. Probably the Music City bowl.
Music City vs Clemson.
and that is not a good match up for AU. Spiller is a very good back.
a curse on the cousin humpers!!
i wouldn't mind Nashville. only a 3 hr drive for me.
better than the 5.5 it takes me to get to AU every weekend.
:)
I too am guessing the Music City Bowl is our destination but am not quite sure about who I think the opponent might be. At this point, Clemson is as good a guess as any.
I am just glad that we are going to a bowl so they get extra practice time for the younger players. They can use it.
i'd rather not play Clemson again. however, beating a former Bama player turned head coach would be nice.
North Carolina is on the board for Nashville, too.
I am very sorry that Eric Smith made those bad decisions on that fateful night. However, I don't think that he should be the target for a bunch of Bamas trying to get their jollies off thinking that they have something to smear Auburn with. He would not be in the middle of all of this had he just used his head and I sure wished he had. I don't think that this is anything to get excited about. At least he wasn't caught selling dope on campus.
I would take North Carolina as an opponent in a bowl game.
This time last year, we'd have gladly taken just about ANY opponent in ANY bowl game. Right? I'm just glad they're going somewhere, I'm still pleased with the improvement of the team with the hand they were dealt. Unless they play in the Chik-fil-A Bowl there's not much chance of me making it to the bowl game. So...I'm personally happy with just about whoever and whatever they get.
Keep Hate Alive.
Agreed Norm. How is the eye doing?
I could have sworn I predicted a Music City Bowl appearance about 6 weeks ago when many Hotties were getting all excited about the Capital One Bowl or other high ranking bowl. But I find no evidence of such a prediction via google.
However, that incomparable Hottie Sage, Norm, on August 7th predicted a 7 win season and Music City Bowl trip.
Too bad for Norm that we are in the middle of an 8 win season.
THT, are you believing everything you read online again? tsk-tsk.
just heard Cowherd say the Silverdome was sold yesterday for around $500,000. Built for $55MM not too long ago. Crazy!
We should have pooled our money together and bought it. We could throw some crazy parties there.
well, I'm not believing any of that crap spewed forth by decari's lawyer.
Michigan has absolutely nothing I want to buy.
Ronnie Brown is done for the year.
mash here
Auburn's about to get shellacked. Titans are in the tank. Ronnie is down. Caddy is on a bad team.
Yep, football is pretty much done for me this year.
Oh, and Jason Campbell's career is running on fumes too.
Sensi, you're just a barrel of fun this morning.
Lunchbox Russell got benched by the Raiders.
Can't say I'm surprised.
KENNESAW, GEORGIA!!!!!!
IV - it's healing and vision is clearing slowly. Too slowly for my preference. It's still pretty useless to me so I tend to keep it patched while at work. Supposedly, in January I'll get evaluated for a contact or glasses for it so I can see again.
THT - thanks for the research, I thought I might have made such a prediction.
I'd be pleased beyond belief as I'm sure the rest of us would if we wind up with an 8 win season. As you know, I do hate that team AU plays in the final game.
Keep Hate Alive.
bought time Russell got benched. i thought he was the worst #1 pick ever at the time and i still stand by that. kid can throw it to the moon, though. well, he could throw it past it anyways. doubt he could hit it.
Bowl seatings will depend on how other teams fare moreso than how we do against the tahd.
We could end up in any of the Weedeater, Liberty, Music City or Chicken Sandwich Bowls.
Shreveport ...ewwww! The other cities have something to offer.
i've never been to the Liberty bowl. i wouldn't mind that.
there have been some seriously bonehead #1 draft picks. Not sure Russell is the worst. I remember the Falcons wasting a #1 on a Citrus Bowl MVP.
i'm going to pretend you didn't type that THT.
Ratliff is having a great year Sensi, and Heath Evans is on a great team. There are still plenty of Auburn men having good NFL seasons, just not the high profile RB's and QB
Scottie - Liberty Bowl?
Just look at Legion Field.
That's what the Liberty Bowl will look like in 20 years if things don't change.
Sensi,
I wouldn't say the Titans are in the tank. They had an awful start, but their schedule sets up favorably for them to save their season.
Maybe not the playoffs, but a lot of momentum to build for next year.
Memphis is a cool town though. Great food.
I hope so, RK. I'm proud of the way Vince has played. What else can be said about Chris Johnson? Awesome.
I just can't watch Penis Manning work towards another Super Bowl.
I
HATE
THAT
GUY
I hated Peyton Manning in college, living here in TN it was unbearable how they worshiped him. I bet every other kid born in TN between 1994-2000 was named Peyton.
However, I like the guy. He's a good guy, he's never in trouble and he's a great player.
Liberty Bowl Stadium is dump.
I went in 1991 to see Bama play Memphis.
Vince Young being a threat to run has opened up the game for Chris Johnson and he's shown why the combine rated him so highly coming out of ECU.
Anybody think I can beat $175 a ticket for three Bama/AU tickets?
Should I gamble on a scalper or go ahead an pull the trigger on those?
if they're in or close to Section 12 FSJ....keep looking.
Peyton is a nice guy.
I hate him on the football field.
I assume you are sitting in section 12?
It will just be me and two of my buddies.. :-P
Wish I had known, FSJ. I could have got you two for $200.
Darn Sensi.
Sorry for not saying anything sooner. If you hear of more let me know.
Scottie - I get the Beasley post, but Kennesaw GA? Can you splain that ?
stay home, bammer!
#89....DARVIN ADAMS
Hometown: Kennesaw, GA.
i lived there for a while API and my aunt/uncle live there now. got mad luv for DA. :)
Nope Peter...
I will be there in all my bammer glory.
API, our current #89 is from Kennesaw, GA
Saw Scottie sporting the 89 jersey last weekend. Possibly the only on that exists outside of the ones Under Armour makes for the games.
yup, i customized my own #89 jersey. it's pimp if i do say so myself.
how's that HABOTN cap working out for you PF?
In honor of Coosa's brilliant observation re:the Eric Smith caper, I have changed my avatar.
As is so often the case, it also coincides with the phrase I so often associate with Auburn University in general, and the football program in particular:
"We have met the enemy, and he is us."
Oop - NOW I've changed my avatar.
Anyone see the first post and can tell why it was deleted. Adams is great and will go get the ball as well as anyone I've seen in college football. I think #81 T- Zack is also great at going for the ball. Would like to see Todd lookh is way when Adams is double teamed.
Personally, I'd love to see us end up in Nashville against F$U.
That would be pretty interesting.
Freep,
I love Nashville. One of my favorite cities in the South.
digger, i have been most impressed with Adams/Zachary's ability/desire to go up in traffic & fight for the football this year. i haven't seen that in a while in an AU receiver.
I'm focused on one bowl now. The Bowl of HATE.
I AGREE that's the only one to focus on. Go Big Blue!
Faker, I traveled to Nashville a few times back in the early '90s - really cool place, back then anyway.
I also spent some time in Memphis around that same period - right after they fixed up Beale St. I enjoyed that as well, although I was also exposed to the grittier, more poverty-stricken areas, which appeared far larger (and worse) than in Music City.
I've never cared for Knoxville.
I've never cared for Knoxville either. (Sorry scottie).
I've been to Beale Street and that was fine, but the Liberty Bowl is a dump.
Nashville is very cool. I lived there from 2000-2002.
i suddenly feel so sad inside.
Scottie it is great to have two such players but TZack was not thrown to enough in my opinion, Todd seemed to have a fixation on Adams. But I have never been there under pressure so I can't say why it worked out that way.
Scottie ...
Knoxville has Ye Olde Steak House, so it has a warm spot in my heart.
scottie,
I think my hate for UT clouds my judgement on Knoxville though.
me either digger.
my illustrious high school career consisted of 1 reception and 2 block in the back penalties. :)
but man, that 7 yard out route was a thing of beauty!
FSJ, since the Great Pumpkin is gone has that lessened the hate, or has "The Mouth" sent it higher.
Oh it has lessened.
Kiffin cracks me up. I think he's very funny.
i like this city, but i've had my fill of UT fans. i've enjoyed them sucking and our current dominance over them, though.
Friends don't let friends go to Bama!
Scottie,
That better not have been me you blocked in the back.
only if you played in Mobile the fall of 1995 RK. it was more of a light push than a block anyways. ha.
Oh ok, so you didn't go to HS in Knoxville.
Anyone see anyone else lying in pools of blood today?
nope, born at Mobile Infirmary and attended Mary G. Montgomery HS. the mighty Vikings.
Ask not what your country can do for you, but how you can HATE UAT better.
Just making sure Scottie.
I got blocked in the back against Knox Central and it caused me to ram my knee into the helmet of another player and I can warn everyone when it's going to rain since that day.
Alabama-UTC...who y'all got?
Jet - I've thought about it and for the life of me I can't imagine how it could be possible for me to hate UAT more than I already do.
I'm certainly open to suggestions.
Keep Hate Alive
ah, gotcha RK. bummer.
Michael - I did not. I often imagine it, but do not typically see such. Who did you leave lying in a pool of blood?
E-bro,
45-10 will be the final score, I'm just not saying who will win.
RK...cryptic. I like it.
I saw the bartender in a pool of blood. Miss Patty Valentine and Bello were there too.
Michael,
Is a Hurricane blowing in?
10 is too high
Yep. The one the authorities came to blame.
For something that he never done.
Even the newspapers went along for the ride.
I suppose I could google it, but I have no idea what you boys are talking about.
Google Earth - coolest time-killer ever.
Mark Ingram: "I’ll let my game talk for me when I’m on the field.”
Just some Dylan lyrics, Norm. It's what I think of when I hear "pool of blood". Except that time, people being shot and all, I imagine it made a little more sense to use the "pool of blood" line than if, say, someone got punched a few times.
A bammer taking the high road over arrogant Auburn comments. What the heck is this world coming too?!!?!

Scottie - Got it. I'm not far from Kennesaw. I think Darvin went to Harrison HS which is just a few miles from me. Thanks.
michael michael motorcycle scratch my back with a hacksaw. Gotta love the Hurricane reference!
I love Ben Tate and he's a great Auburn man. I'd draft the other fellow.
Mark Ingram, Sensi.
ehyou - try www.placespotting.com

Ingram's a true sophomore right? I'm drafting Tate b/c I legally can.
Lawyered.
ingram will not be eligible until 2011 draft correct? he is a true soph.
gimmie 22 over 44 if i have a choice.
22 can make the corner and maintain balance in traffic.

that last guy gets tate's ankle 97% of the time and he's down.
ingram breaks 2-3 tackles and keeps going. think caddy or ronnie.
and sometimes it's the first guy
Irrelevant, won't be in the same draft.
Why don't you just go ahead and ask who everyone thinks the better RB is?
i think ingram gets infinitely better run blocking in the second level than tate does.
if assume in the same draft, I'll take OJ or Sweetness or Barry or Bo and several dozen others before I got to Ingram.
how many times has tate tripped over or run into a wr or oline downfield?
I like how Tate was pretty much quiet all year long, then talked a little smack before the UGA game then followed it up with his worst game this year.
Cincy, as long as I don't spend too much time in front of the computer, I'm ok!
RK...still has had a great year, though.
Hi Luv - I'm sorry, but the statute of limitations has expired on Cincy's question. Your answer is not admissible in a court of law.
Just kiddin'!
Chip ...
Translated, UAT receivers don't get called for holding the way AU receivers do.
HATE UAT!
Tate is too tentative in his running style.

some don't hate cause they're ignorant, some don't hate as much, but ain't nobody hate UA-T like I hate UA-T...well, 'cept for MrsTHT and THTjr
Finebaum interview is up on Wendy Crew's webwsite. Does your attorney have a dedicated part of their website titled "links to media interviews?"
Whew...pretty good lunch.
I need a nap.
I don't see either one endangering any NFL rushing records, even team records. I don't see Tate as an NFL starter. I hope he proves me very wrong.
If anyone would like to provide me with a pair of entry passes for the UAT and AU assembly in Jordan-Hare on Nov. 27 I would greatly appreciate it.
Shoot me an email if you have spares or know of any. Gracias amigos!
Norm...
Many thanks dude. That site is awesome. I foresee an afternoon of minimal productivity.
every now and then I get a little bit lonely...
Sensi...the dude abides.
I'll say Ingram, but like THT said, neither was is truly special (yet) in an historical context.
I think Tate is more valuable to his team in that I think Bama could hand it to Richardson 20-25 times a game and be almost as effective.
a time to love, a time to hate
turn around....
I'm dedicated, yes I'm a forgiver
Tate will make an NFL team. He is one of the 10 best backs in college right now. Mad respect to him. But I think his slowness to the hole will put a pretty low ceiling on his NFL career, where holes close faster than you can say tonyfranklin.
Norm's time to shine!
My lunch barely put a dent in my hunger. Now, what can I find laying around the office to eat?
Pooh.... Oatmeal.
New page smell.
