The latest from practice

Hey everyone. I have finished transcribing some interviews, including an epic chat with Walt McFadden, and my story for tomorrow.

So let's see what we learned today.

  • I saw LB Eltoro Freeman walking in a boot. Gene Chizik, as expected, had no comment on Freeman's prognosis or availability.

  • You'll love this. How about OT Lee Ziemba talking about penalties: ``They’re killing us. We’ve got to stop committing those errors. It’s all about the fundamentals. If you do the fundamentals right you’re not going to commit those penalties."

  • Walt McFadden on problems he had early in his career: ``(David Gibbs) told me I was going to the NFL. Most coaches tell you that cornerbacks have to tackle. He still had that NFL mentality. He said: 'You don't get paid to tackle. You guard guys.' When I started guarding guys, Coach Tub jumped on me for not tackling. I didn't know who to listen to. It kinda got to me. Coach Tub said I wasn't going to play until I started tackling. Gibbs was telling me I didn't have to tackle. I was doing what my coach told me. It set me back."

  • TB Onterio McCalebb said he felt "real good" at practice today. He's been dealing with a high-ankle sprain.

  • QB Chris Todd on today's emphasis at practice: ``The big thing is looking at all the details, fixing the little mistakes that kind of hurt ourselves on. And we made that a point today, and we’ll continue to do that, just not making mistakes and putting ourselves in bad situations.

  • Gus Malzahn on the effect of (players) taking two days off: ``I think it helps a lot -- we have not had any off time at all to get our guys to mentally refresh. We had some tired guys, there’s no doubt, physically and mentally. As far as coaches, probably the same way. Anytime you’re playing a very good opponent the more time you have to prepare -- that will definitely help."

  • McFadden told reporters last week that he thought A.J. Green and Julio Jones were the two best receivers in the league ... but that he liked one more than the other. Now he's coming clean: ``I like A.J. Green. He reminds me of a Randy Moss-type of receiver. Randy Moss -- I'm a big fan of his. I compare those two as receivers, so I kind of have to slide toward A.J. Green."

It would be curious to see data on how many false starts Ziemba and McCain have had compared to other tackles in college football.

McFadden dissin Hulio Hones in favor of AJ Green. Ben Tate saying he's the best RB in the state. When are they going to learn what not to say?

I can't tell how many penalties those guys have drawn. The records are "incomplete."

I may not be a medical doctor, but as HABOTN team physician, I'm thinking a boot is for foot problems, not a concussion. Doesn't sound good for Eltoro. Maybe like in '72 we'll have to play a TE at LB.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

or maybe we can put Eric Smith at LB and he can go all decari on UA-T's RB.

Hey, Dr Habotn is back! So many alter egos, that one.

Was I stupid to assume that McFadden didn't reveal who he thought was better last week because he didn't want to give Georgia bulletin board material? Why keep it a secret that you respect your opponent? I mean, people say stuff like that even when they don't mean it just to not give bulletin board material.

Today's player quotes reinforce my belief that they say absolutely nothing that makes any sense. Also, the art of conversation is lost on today's youth. Jesus H. Christ. Dumbest Team in America. Our OT talks about penalties when he's the one causing alot of the penalties. Our corners are calling out the 1a or 1b best receiver in the league if not the country. Just keep your mouth shut when you've lost 4 games (one of which was Kentucky) Just keep quiet and COVER and TACKLE... DO BOTH WELL... what a great idea that would be.

I am very sorry that Eric Smith made those bad decisions on that fateful night. He would not be in the middle of all of this had he just used his head and I sure wished he had. I don't think that this is anything to get excited about. Just some Dylan lyrics, Norm. It's what I think of when I hear "pool of blood". Except that time, people being shot and all, I imagine it made a little more sense to use the "pool of blood" line than if, say, someone got punched a few times.

Scottie - Got it. I'm not far from Kennesaw. I think Darvin went to Harrison HS which is just a few miles from me. Thanks.

that last guy gets tate's ankle 97% of the time and he's down.

ingram breaks 2-3 tackles and keeps going. think caddy or ronnie.

Blogger E-Bro said...

Irrelevant, won't be in the same draft.

12:46 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Why don't you just go ahead and ask who everyone thinks the better RB is?

12:47 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

i think ingram gets infinitely better run blocking in the second level than tate does.

12:48 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

if assume in the same draft, I'll take OJ or Sweetness or Barry or Bo and several dozen others before I got to Ingram.

12:48 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

how many times has tate tripped over or run into a wr or oline downfield?

I like how Tate was pretty much quiet all year long, then talked a little smack before the UGA game then followed it up with his worst game this year.

Hi Luv - I'm sorry, but the statute of limitations has expired on Cincy's question. Your answer is not admissible in a court of law.

Sensi...the dude abides.

I'll say Ingram, but like THT said, neither was is truly special (yet) in an historical context.

I think Tate is more valuable to his team in that I think Bama could hand it to Richardson 20-25 times a game and be almost as effective.

Tate will make an NFL team. He is one of the 10 best backs in college right now. Mad respect to him. But I think his slowness to the hole will put a pretty low ceiling on his NFL career, where holes close faster than you can say tonyfranklin.
