Lee Ziemba speaks out
Hey everyone. Offensive tackle Lee Ziemba stopped by for a chat moments ago. The interview took a turn for the terse when I asked about his penchant for penalties. His answers are blunt, revealing and important.
- On his problem with penalties in 2009: ``I didn't think they were as bad as everybody makes it seem. Watch an NFL game. How many false starts do you see? Yeah, I messed up a few times. There's a lot of factors. It's a tough thing, but we're trying to get it fixed and corrected so it doesn't happen again. It's the game of football. It's a lot tougher than people think it is. It's not easy by any stretch of the imagination."
- On if the penalty situation is overstated: ``Heck yeah. I hear it going to have supper with my girlfriend. Somebody stops me. It's ridiculous. Whatever. You get in this position, you're going to hear stuff like that. We're trying to get it fixed. I'm always trying to improve. I come here every day and work my tail end off to try and improve myself. That's my job."
- On if he feels underappreciated: ``I'm not doing it for appreciation. I'm doing it because I love playing football and I love Auburn University. I'm not doing it for anything other than that. I don't feel underappreciated. I feel good. I love being here. I wouldn't change anything about it. Yeah, I need to work on penalties. I have to work on a lot of different aspects of my game that people don't mention. It's not like I'm trying to mess up."

yo
Blogger must be having issues for me to have been #1
False Start, CH=B. 5 yards from the previous spot...replay 1st Post Try.
I bet he arrived early for the interview.
I mean, did you have time to even get the recorder out before he started answering questions?
I think Ziemba might could take you Jay, but I feel like Buster Douglas behind this keyboard
No false starts. I went to game settings and turned off all of the penalties.
Yikes!!! Lee Ziemba is a bad man. Jay G., he has been known to rip the heads off defensive ends. Better stay out of arms reach. I wouldn't want our favorite beat reporter to get Ziembaed.
To be fair, I think Ziemba did better last year than in 2008, and last season his penalties seemed to go down as the season progressed.
Anybody think Lee Ziemba comes off like the teenage Anakin Skywalker there?
Maybe it's just me.
Like the term "Ziembaed". Sounds like something that should happen to all of the walmartians.
He is a young man and does have a chance to learn from his mistakes! It's just a little harder to hide those mistakes when they are on a world stage.
Oh and Craig James wears designer jeans because he's a douchebag.
The end.
Sensi,
You mean he is such a bad actor in a horribly written love story that he killed a franchise?
No, I don't think that.
Mucho substançio today, peops.
Well said RK.
paroled
I was referring more to the scene where he confesses to his wife to be that he MURDERED A RACE OF ALIENS (SANDPEOPLE) and complained that everyone should be okay about it.
You know you drive a POS when you see an episode of Mythbusters and they are trashing a car that looks just like yours.
Sensi, the whole experience of Hayden Christensen in episodes 2 and 3 is awful.
Can we myth bust your car Steve? We can charge money to watch it and then make a donation in the name of the HABOTN to cancer for Shon Coleman.
My car still moves and gets me the 1 mile I travel to the store, so to me it is fine. I am going to stick with the drive it until it turns to dust strategy.
Oh my! I've got hypersubstancenemia. You spoon fed me a serious overdose today, Hottie Daddy.
THT, I'm slightly disturbed by your last post.
Slightly nothing. I'm in need of therapy after that.
Sensi, you've obviously never accidentally stumbled into a drag show.
So where is Aeronaut these days? Defense of Ziemba was a passion of his.
I miss Aero. He was funny.
I thought it was further than 1 mile to the nearest store in Lubbock.
i'm sure he's in some dangerous eastern european country
Seanzie said...
Sensi, you've obviously never accidentally stumbled into a drag show
Explanation needed here!!!!
So a buddy of mine used to work at this trendy Italian joint down in Midtown. So his first Saturday he says, come hit me up and I'll hook you guys up. We're all down, we do a little pregaming, get down there...and there's drag show that takes place there on occasion, well it turns out this was one such occasion.
I also have another such chance encounter but I'll save that for another time.
I have a less than 1 mile trip to the grocery store and a 1 mile trip into work. Since I rarely go to work and the grocery store is primarily my only regular destination, it works very well for me.
No and don't plan to anytime soon.
I miss Jay G.
Stumble upon a drag show once... coincidence...stumble upon a drag show twice....?????
Fool me once shame on you. Fool me (pause) again (longer pause) you aint gonna fool me again.
I think Aero left again, but this time it wasn't on me.
I am definitely not a Craig James fan. I'm slightly surprised he was at Auburn's practice this morning, any reasoning?
Aero should return. He leaves a gap in our atmosphere.
Sensi, I'm right here.
At least ... I think so.
Maybe Craig James should be interviewing Mike Leach. He could ask him how that law suit is working out for him.
Wells, James is part of that ESPN flotilla that's visiting various programs. Blah blah blah.
Hopefully, Aero is having too much vacation fun.
Welcome to the threads former HABOTN lurker Sparky.
You mean he wasn't interviewing you, Jay? Then I won't start the rumor.
This comment has been removed by the author.
JGT - Please tell me that you're not leaving with the flotilla.
Makes sense now about James, thanks JayGT.
It doesn't seem my rumor about Rollison coming back and winning the starting QB job in the fall is getting much traction either.
Maybe Craig James is calling the spring game for ESPNU and he was there just doing prep work.
I just read some of a unique article on the leader in news, namely the Bleacher Report. There is an article written by a Bambi about how Auburn fans are in denial about Alabama's resurgence. Man, I love the Bleacher Report. You just can't find quality BS like that anywhere.
Bama in resurgence?! Naw...couldn't be.
The other drag experience I didn't stumble into, it was sort of forced on me while I was working. A really awkward moment ensued.
Ch=B,
Sorry, I have missed the last couple of threads, but Tyler's degree is in Industrial and Systems Engineering with minors in business and computer science.
Aero is probably someplace with hawt rawks.
Didn't Ziemba cost Alabama a turnover in the Iron Bowl with a false start?
It just occurred to me that Bama may have done us a favor. When the Iron Bowl is in Tuscaloosa, we can't role Toomer's, but they do have a Nick Saban statue in Tuscaloosa that would make a great substitute.
FSJ, I believe you are correct and you have uncovered our secret strategy.
Seanzie, i apparently want ZERO part of whatever bidness you are in. yikes!
Alabama resurgence?
How much farther can you go than being the reigning champ?
Congrats! Front Page SteveFC
THT,
Did you see my post that Tyler got a job? Yea!!!
Now we just need to sell the condo and all will be right in my financial world. :)
Just finished reading the old thread posts from today, Cincy. That is FANTASTIC!!! Very well done, Tylerson!
Will he be working with MJT?
It's been over 90 minutes since we've had a new thread. JGT is really falling down on the job.
Thanks THT. Some how I never thought my POS would earn me such recognition.
Fantastic news cincy.
Congrats to you and your son.
Make him buy you dinner at a nice restaurant with his first check... :-P
I'm not sure if he is working with MJT? He is working for AAI Corp, part of Textron Systems. They do aerospace and defense stuff.
Contemplating adding some Neil Young to my MP3 player. "Ohio" seems to be like a good option.
Huntsville Aerospace, been there. Done that. It helped me a lot.
No more English sides remaining in Champions League, United collapse at home to allow Bayern Munich through on away goals.
SFC - also consider Cinnamon Girl, Heart of Gold, Hey Hey My My
Cincy - I thought maybe Tyler might have been interviewed by a dude wearing a box on his head.
RODEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
WERK - I was catching up on threads and read your Meiko Collier comments - LMAO, and then I come to this thread to see the remark about Ziemba arriving early for the interview. Priceless! I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. If the Supper Club holds comedy night, you should perform. Excellent.
Cinnamon girl is pretty cool. I am considering Old Man too.
Good to see TJ at practice today. I do love me some TJ. He has been one of my favorite players.
Kathy,
Thanks for the dr suggestions. I have written down the name of the dentist. This job has amazing dental insurance! Better than ours! He isn't going to need a vet for awhile - at least not until his sister convinces him to adopt a golden baby.
That first job out of college is a wonderful time. He will be much better off if he can avoid the credit card thing I went through. Don't do credit cards and invest money every month. It makes life much easier.
Not the Top 10 list you want to be on:
Here is a top 10 of teams who have played the most seasons in the English top flight without winning the title (including this season):
1. Bolton (71)
2. Middlesbrough (60)
3. Birmingham City (56)
4. West Ham (53)
5. Leicester (46)
6. Southampton (35)
7. Coventry City (34)
8. Notts County (30)
9. Blackpool (27)
10. Charlton Athletic (26)
Only two of those teams are even in the top flight currently.
3, actually
I need a hug.
...And ice cream.
I'll scoop us both a bowl, Sensi. If you're not here in 20 minutes, I'll eat your ice cream, too.
Um, it seems that the Virginia governor has declared April to be confederate history month. Everyone grab their bed sheets, crosses and celebrate.
Why do I get the feeling that governor won't be re-elected?
Sensi, I think Seanzie has some "friends" that might like to give you a hug.

BEASLEY!!!
HELLOOOO KENNESAW, GA!!!
Ziemba is one of the two best players on the team. I've thought for a while that he gets a bad wrap.
I'll move to Virginia and re-elect him.
When the Iron Bowl is in Tuscaloosa, we can't role Toomer's
This statement is contrary to tradition.
I agree, PF. And his number of penalties last season wasn't too bad. I am so glad he didn't jump to the NFL. He will be playing on Sundays eventually.
PF, you care correct in a way. We can't roll it in Tuscaloosa:)
So, Virginia. Hmmm. I don't mind confederate history month, but I do mind sheets over heads. Not sure they should be related anymore, but I guess they are to some. Oh, well.
We have rolled Toomer's more than once when we won in Tuscaloosa.
only to the ignorant, PF.
The penalties would get very little attention if not for committing them in the worst possible times in 2008. That will follow him for a long time. It's really sad that he doesn't get the acclaim he deserves. Such is life.
Auburn baseball 3-1 over South Alabama going into bottom of 3rd
Rangers and Maple Leafs aren't playing very friendly in the 2nd period
Ok, my day is done. Phone is completely dead, and I forgot my car charger, so the roads are safer tonight since I won't be HABOTNing on them. Farewell.
I have a big problem with confederate history month. I wouldn't mind if they had southern history month. I consider the idea of confederate history month to be insensitive and exclusionary.
Carl Crawford is one fast mamma jamma.
How is confederate history month any more exclusionary than black history month?
Never said it was. I am against black history month too.
Or hispanic history month, or womens history month, or european histiory month.
I think we should get rid of them and just have American history year, it all fits in there somewhere.
I have been trying to get a feel for this QB competition, but am getting very frustrated. So far the biggest knocks I have heard about Newton is that he isn't going through his receiver progressions and isn't following through on his fakes. That not going through the progressions will get you benched, no matter how good you can run.
I am really hoping that we see the QB race narrowed down a bit soon. I don't believe having 4 quality QBs is a good problem to have.
I have been fortunate enough to work with people from all over the world, every continent, except one. It is very evident that people are just people and to classify based upon color is simply ignorant, no matter who is doing it.
And as for football, I love our players. The is no color in team or something like that.
For SteveFC only - Exclusionary???
When I was in school, Industrial Engineering was a.k.a. Imaginary Engineering. You need to be sure to tell your boy that Cincy.
Some Wes Byrum news from Andy Bitter:
Byrum, who rebounded from a sophomore slump to make 15 of his 16 field-goal attempts last year, has picked up where he left off, consistently making his kicks during the live field-goal drill Auburn begins each practice with.
so it is now news, or rumors o fnews, that Tiger had a 1 night stand with a 2009 grad from UAt. Was it Collette? Was she a grad?
We're rollin' baby.
Hey ehyou,
If they are going to pay him $65,000 straight out of school, they can call it anything they want!
Auburn Athletic dept wants your feedback on 2009 Game Day experience

NOTE: It didn't work properly in Firefox, but does great in Safari. I didn't check Chrome or IE.
I know you're proud cincy. I can't help but give 'em a hard time.
THT,
I tried this survey a few minutes ago in Safari and it wouldn't work. Several glitches. I was going to try Firefox, but if it doesn't work, I'm not going to worry with it tonight.
Chrome is a thumbs up THT.
The day you get me to open IE again will be a cold one in Dothan in August.
I have to use IE at work and it disgusts me. MS in general disgusts me. Every time I've gone upstairs to the old PC this week (by old, we're talking less than 5 years) it has the BSOD.
Is there any human who has made a PC-->Mac switch and regretted it? I doubt it.
What's crack-a-lackin' HABOTNauts?
Hey BigCat! How ya doin?
Hey THT Im hanging in there. How are you? Did I hear that you are out of the country?
I was 2 weeks ago, BigCat. Been back at work since :-( Getting impatient for Fall & Winter to get here.
well, the Rangers have opened up a can on the Maple Leafs. With this game out of reach will we see some extracurricular activities in the last 7 minutes?
Yes bring on Fall/Winter!! Or at least the A-Day game. Glad you made it back safely THT!
I'm sure I'm the only one watching the TB-Bal game but just had a HORRIBLE call. The batter clearly held up on a 3-2 pitch. So he started to take his base and the man on 1st trotted to 2nd. The ump made a late call that he went and rung him up. So the catcher throws the man on 1st out at 2nd when he is taking his base.
Not sure if that made sense but it was a crazy/crappy situation.
So what's everyone doing for A-Day? Anyone interested in setting up a HABOTN tailgate spot?
CHIPPER!
JONES!
We're tailgating at the condo. Anyone is welcome to come by. We will probably have food both before and after the game. I'm still working on that.
Anyone else going to the Tiger Trail Induction Breakfast Saturday morning? (Before the A Day game)
And while we are at it...
LONGORIA!
Auburn up 5-2 over USA going into bottom of 8th
I heart Chipper Jones.
Heyward 1-3 with an RBI...going to win it for then in the 9th im calling it, if it goes to the 9th
Not going to the 9th
Wagner is back!
Braves win
Auburn wins 6-2
But, AU softball got their tails kicked by Samford 10-2
Thanks for those updates.
An update on my tomato plants....they're watered and taking off. Yes, it's very exciting.
THT, I don't really care for the wacko black confederates either.
As for your like to a PDF, I have not problem with it in firefox. Your plugin must not be configured correctly.
just got back from the baseball game. Some notes from it: Mummey still looked good, other than trying for a double that wasn't close to being one. Justin Bryant left the game in the second(I think) after being hit (apparently in the face) by a pitch. He was replaced at short by Mitchell Self which begs the question where was C-Mac? We started Luckie who threw 16 pitches and then used quite a few pitchers(Slade, some young guy, Blatt, and Hurst). I'm guessing that means Jacobs will start friday but the fact that Luckie only threw 16 means he's ready to relieve that night if things go south.
As for Ziemba, his false start against UAT was a blessing from above, as it saved us from a UAT INT return for a TD.
For those of us who might have played OL in high school, it's a tad more intricate now than looking to see if you're blocking the guy in the gap inside of you, in front of you or the linebacker.
He's got a high motor. That's what we ask of him. At left tackle, he's got their best across from him and every millisecond matters.
I'm going to do my best to bite my tongue this fall should he false start.
Very interesting about Corey Luckie. I expected Slade to start. Corey's had a very bad last couple of games, though, so maybe this is best. He's got the stuff, but just isn't bringing it right now.
Fearless, how did he look with those 16 pitches? Any sign of nerves and/or injury?
Good call Jet.
I will be at A-day but probably not going to tailgate.
I do plan on visiting the Auburn Arena though.
no sign of injury. He definitely wasn't taken out for bad pitching. He gave up a couple early hits, but settled in in the second.
JayG-any news from the players (I know the coaches will not say) that PPL had surgery yesterday?
Maybe he has brain worms or something. Too many first inning hits is a definite symptom.
maybe peter, he is giving up quite a few of those this year
OL have false starts, it happens. If Ziemba has more than his share then he deserves to be criticized.
AU softball coach needs to resign. She is not good at all. Getting to the tourney is not as hard as the mens league. 6 winning season out of 13.
I have a relative that is a college softball coach. He has seen AU play. He says Au coaching is way behind the powerful teams in the SEC. AU does not get quality players.
I'm not gonna jump on Ziemba too much, but his excuse that "everybody does it" seemed...well...kind of lame.
You do see a lot of false starts, but not usually from the same guy again and again (unless you're Danny Lindsey, bless his heart).
Whatever. It happens. I wish he didn't do it, but he does...a lot. I've just sort of learned to live with it...much like the orange level terrorist alert system.
just read where it was bryant's hand. it looked like his face but i guess he got his hands up. he's having x-rays tomorrow
not sure which is worse, honestly.
Throwing hand?
C McElroy was sick and missed the game tonight.
no idea wake. Report didnt specify, its encouraging to note that Mitchell Self did play well in his sted tonight. Made some great defensive stops.
thanks wtc, i wondered where he was
Ziemba is at the position on the line prone to false starts. I thought he did very well this last season. Yes, he had a bad season in 2008, but he was young and since the rest of the team was doing a whose on first routine, I can't blame him too much.

yeah i didn't think Ziemba was bad last year. He'll be even better this year. And yes so shocking peter, you know whats even more shocking? Auburn won't have a player taken in the NBA draft
In shocking news, John Wall and Demarcus Cousins are among 5 UK players that will enter the NBA draft. Four freshmen from the same team. Geez.
next year, either, Fearless.True.
unless on the outside chance Barbee goes and gets a one-and-done
Oh, man. Ali G Indahouse comes on USA at 2am. I have it on DVD, but still might stay up and watch it. I's gots some seeerious man love for Sacha Cohen.
Serious consideration for staying up, PF. I don't have class until 2 tomorrow, although I need to do my homework.
When will ESPN realize that Craig James is universally regarded as a tool and fire him? Maybe when folks turn the channel every time James appears on the screen.
Seems that Ziemba is now at the point in his AU football career where he is willing to be partially candid with his real feelings. According to 2 different player's parents I know, many players really hate sarcastic bloggers that entertain themselves by taking cheap shots at players/coaches. The players won't publicly speak up because of the possibility of gang mentality retaliatory negative spin from the bloggers. It's better to stay quiet and focussed than get sucked into the banter.
Morning Hotties! I like 5 pm so much better than 5 am :)
Jay,
Good article on Means. I love happy endings, I hope his story has one.
Morning all.
I hope it rains all day and gets all of this pollen our of here. Plus I'm one of those people that likes it to rain while I'm at work. I hate to look out my office window and see the beautiful sky.
Very nice article on Means today in the MA. Good job JayG.

Don't get me wrong, I do believe that Ziemba is a really good offensive lineman, the best we've had since McNeill, but he does tend to arrive to the party early from time to time.
Yes, his penalty did save us a turnover against Alabama last year, but there are many times (mainly in 2008 with all the OL confusion) that they seemed to come just as we were moving the ball downfield.
Morning Hotties - nice Ziemba thread and article in the MA Homer.
It's looking like rain here today, there's a high probability of rain here today. Each of which mean I'll likely be PO'd about a mere sprinkling which does nothing to move the pollen along the way.
Hey Norm,
Did you see my post that Tyler got a job? He is sooo excited; hope he is as excited once he actually starts working. Maybe he can get a few years experience and then come work for you!
Is the thread considered dead after 30 minutes? If so, I killed it! Have fun today - I'm going to go play in the rain.
It's early yet Cincy, we have to let the zombies, i.e. me, catch up with the morning.
Speaking of, it's time for coffee.
Here's a little personal story completely unrelated to anything: yesterday evening Hot Wife is about to leave to head to our favorite greenway trail to run a few miles. Well, F4* wants to go too so he can practice his running. So we all load up and head out. Hot Wife goes in one direction and F4* and I head to where I've already measured off 100 yards distance and we run that a few times. Inevitably, he has to go to the bathroom so we go back to the trailhead and tend to business. He's no longer interested in practicing so we set off into the woods so I can dazzle him with my woodsman brilliance. I suggest we walk over to the creek and see what we can see. He picks up some rocks along the way for throwing into the creek. We get there, throw some rocks and that's done. Along the way, I show him rabbit holes, snake/chipmunk holes, tracks, old buck markings, deer tracks and explain how to differentiate between them. It's all pretty cool stuff. Towards the end as we're heading back, I hear noises which I knew to be a deer likely about to cross our path so we stop and wait quietly. Sure enough, a doe crosses the trail about 20 feet in front of us. This being the first time he's seen a deer in a natural setting, he's relatively impressed. I see by the doe's behavior that she has a baby back in the woods behind her that hasn't yet crossed the trail so I tell him we're going to wait because there's another one about to come out. Lo and behold, I'm correct and a young buck crosses the trail after his mother. I point out that we can no longer see them and they're just a few feet away and explain various laws of nature behind this.
Anyway, I'm thinking this is just a fantastic father son experience with nature and wildlife. We get back to the trailhead and Hot Wife returns. She asks how his run was and what we did. His response? "I threw rocks in the water." That's it. That's all he got out of it. I swear, it's like he has the attention of a 3 year old.
cincy - yes I did, congratulations and good luck to him. This is an exciting time for y'all I'm sure.
Norm, I have a semi-related, sort of similar story.
We were in Gatlinburg one year. My son was 2 at the time. We decided to take him to Cade's Cove to see some deer. We almost drove the entire loop and didn't see a thing. We got out at the visitor's center to stretch our legs.
There were some dandelions in the grass. My son thought it was great fun to blow the seeds off of the stems. (Which, of course it is.)
We hear a ruckus behind us and I turn to see a small doe walking through the crowd.
I immediately start trying to get my son to look at her. "Look, a deer." "It's a deer. Do you see it?"
He won't look. Dandelions.
My wife and I keep trying. Finally the doe is right next to him. He glances up from his dandelion stem and says, "Dog."
He looks back at his stem, blows the few remaining seeds away and starts looking for another. And that was that.
Who are these sarcastic bloggers that like to take cheap shots, Hoopie?
Throwing rocks in the water does sound like the best part of that story.
Great story Norm.
I see Dad got a lot out of that experience fo sho. F4* will surprise you one day and recall it. It first needs to soak in a little.
My daughter and I had a similar experience when she was 5 that meant much to me and seemingly not much to her. I told my wife about it and not much more was ever said about it. 8 years later, my wife showed me a 4 paragraph school paper prepared by my 12 year old wherein she fondly recounted the experience with much detail.
251..
The parents were speaking in general and don't even look at blogs. No blogs/posters, etc. were named, so you're safe. haha. The parents were venting at me because I mentioned that I participate online.
Just so you can rest even more easily, you should know that these parent's kids play at UGA and GT. A few years ago, I heard a similar blog complaint from an AU player's parent.
I try to limit sarcasm towards AU to only something I would say to the player in person. If it is light enough and funny enough to say to their face, then it would be OK for me to put on the interwebs. Light, funny sarcasm is an art form not done well by very many, including me. Since I'm no good at funny sarcasm, so I will typically save my harsher style for Bammers or folks that go all Jim Rome on AU.
I don't know how these newspaper type articles work. The Gadsden Times had a good article about the Auburn QB situation but the by line just said Associated Press. Who is this? Is it a peson or fractions taken from several people. It did cover the same ground as did Jay in the MA this am but added some other things.
Well I am glad to hear Lee loves football and Auburn.
However, he is being stubborn if he thinks his penalties are a part of football. Yes, penalties are a part of football. However, when you personally are good for at "least" one false start a game then its an obvious problem. Many of them are drive killers. He mentioned the NFL, well as much promise as Lee has he would be on the bench fast with that many penalties. If he had that many in a year in the NFL he would be back working for Tony Mandarichs medical supply company before he knew it.
digger...
More than likely one person wrote the article. Cooperative members of the AP (Gasden Times) can re-print any article produced by any other member. The AP allows minor editing of the story to allow it to fit into the space the local paper has.
If you are in the public eye, people are going to be critical. Whether it is right or wrong, if you are out there you will have a detractor or twenty.
Digger, John Zenor(AP) occasionally puts out fairly generic articles on AU that are sometimes picked up by local papers. JG would probably know whether Zenor attends practices or recycles news from other sources, but I'm not certain that JG would respond to that question if asked.
For my reading time, JG and Bitter seem to do the best at mentioning extra and insightful stuff without getting gossipy or speculative.
Thank you ehyou.
John Zenor is the Gadsden Times Auburn beat writer and his name appears on most things from Auburn.
It may have been his with some editing.
Hoopie you and I must have been typing at the same time
Where is Norm, it's almost time to flip this thing?
Yo
Lee, and most guys on the Auburn team need to be more disiplined on the field. There were too many little things that got Auburn beat last year.
That said, if I was Lee Ziemba and I kept hearing about my mistakes from all sorts of people who couldn't hold my jock on the football field, while dining out with my significant other, I would get iritated too.
Hopefully he channels that into a great year this year.
