Tuberville: "I spent $600K to hire a consultant to teach my Coaches enough about this to be dangerous."
That's one thing I take from that.
Looks like Tony F got to keep his AU shirts though.
Wow.
Just wow.
I didn't waste a second getting that up.
I knew it would be a big hit with the HOTTIES.
Whatever Tommy! He looked like it was real hard for him to fire Franklin. He almost looked happy. I think he has lied so much that he believes what he says is true.
Lane Kiffin is looking for work? Just sayin......
Great Job Jay!!!
No body else like ya' out there!!!
Got to listen... Just heard "Gut Feeling"...Heard that before...
Just sayin'. Just sayin'. Everybody's just sayin' all the sudden. Enough of just sayin'.
jay thanks for the hard work. any your thoughts on who is going to call the plays?
That is painful to watch. I have always liked Tubs, which just makes watching his awkward attempt to lie that much more difficult. Tough day for AU.
AUfull. There has to be more to the situation that "not getting it done on the field". On the upside, Todd will be treated like Yoshi on Revenge of the Nerds and will have to wash everyones jock strap.
So the "Spread" is still in huh?
I see a hybrid coming.... Not good...
The Nallsminger version of the spread should be lovely.
Yes it is... Painful
Who will call plays?
My gut tells me Steve Ensminger. My brain tells me Eddie Gran.
I can't reconcile the two.
Also, how is asking at what point the decision was made a "non question". Sounds like a hell of a question. I guess Tony's attempt at getting more involved yesterday was a little late.
Thanks for the great work Jay. I see alot of Kiffin talk but why would he leave one circus to go to another? I think CTT may have to hire Lee-Scott's OC after this disaster.
It seems to me like this is only getting worse. My initial hope when I heard about this was that Tuberville had found a better option, but after watching that press conference he looked as clueless as I would be standing up there.
So, we're still running the spread, but we fired the guy we brought in to teach it? That makes tons of sense!
I don't see an OC - and maybe an HC God forbid until the end of the season
Gran...
Please...
These guys can't even put the best talent on the field much less coach Xs and 0s.
I heard that Nall, Gran and Ensminger came to CTT and said they had finally finished Franklins course and passed and that they could now run the spread.
It took Borges to get Caddy and Ronnie lined up in the same backfield otherwise Ronnie would have been a third round pick. No, these guys can't coach an offense. They can't coach special teams into shoring up the oppositions's return game either.
Tubs says, he's committed to the spread, we're still going to run the spread, the guys are getting better at it, and it's a good offense. This is after he fires the guy who is supposed to be the spread guru. This all adds up to personality conflicts, plain and simple. I'm sure there is a lot more to the situation than we'll ever know.
Ensminger is definately going to call the plays... He's got experience at it and in 2003 that offense got a little bit better when ensminger stepped in.
I believe that was Evan asking the "unknown question?"
Wonder if some of our offensive players were babies about Franklin taking charge yesterday?
Wow. That was awkward.
Amazing how many Lane Kiffin fans have shown up on Auburn boards lately.
-"When did you decided to make a change?"
-"That's a non-question" (aka-
"This afternoon after a heated argument, it was really a knee jerk decision")
Seriously what kind of response to a question is that?
definately woodberry, crudup
Rodney Scott on Franklin's departure and his commitment to Auburn:
"I feel pretty good about (my commitment) now because now I think we’ll get back to the old Auburn, running downhill and everything, like it was with Cadillac Williams."
See, this is not a scatback.
The offense in 2003 got a little better against lesser competition. LSU and UGA killed us late in that year.
LSU wasn't late and UGA killed everybody. All LSU did was run the "slant". You know, the slant. GT's slant. USC's slant. We couldn't do anything about the slant.
Nallsminger sucked, guys.
I guess I'm just more confused than most. Anytime you have to fire a coach mid-season, you look bad. But what looks worse, taking care of what you consider to be the problem now or waiting until it drags your team to a 6-6 season?
If the spread is simply a formation, then why is a hybrid offense based on 60/40, spread/ace a bad thing?
To me this is when you need a politician/coach. What if CTT stood there and said, "I fired CTF because he was a loose cannon and a stubborn SOB who would not run the plays we knew worked. I obviously couldnt side with him over the coaches who have supported me and stood with me for 10+ years. I know they will always have my back and CTF is just trying to redeem his college coaching career. But becaue of this, he team is falling into a deep depression and losing even more confidence in the staff and each other, we'll probably lose 1/3 of our recruits along with the majority of the remaining games since the coaches we have left dont know squat about coaching WRs or running a spread offense". We would all be sending in donations to help with the buyout clause. He has dug himself into a hole that's for sure, but if this team is going to at least make this season respectable it will be because of CTT. The AU family at least owes the team our support while he figures this out. I guess that's all I have to say about that.
If the spread is simply a formation, then why is a hybrid offense based on 60/40, spread/ace a bad thing?
I agree completely... why does it have to be all or none... mix it up, don't be so predictable... that's what got us in trouble to start with
omg, bowie, nice yoshi reference, sweet. This is all sooo sooo nasty, like a mexican soap opera. This whole situation, its like asking the ugly girl to the dance and then finding a better date at the last minute, u have to dump the ugly chick, had to be done, needed an upgrade....do you think coach blakeney will hire tony back? Jay how long is Franklin on contract for?
Those who can do, those who can't teach...Franklin was know more for teaching the spread rather than coaching or game time play calling. You people saw the play calling for 6 games, Jay illustrated several series this morning. It seemed bad to me and I'm just some jerk watching the game.
Gran would not be a wise choice. As mentioned earlier Gran thought nothing of Ronnie B's ability. Remember USC in Cali - when Carnell was cramping, RB was sitting on the bench!! Then boom RB bust out of "thin air" when Carnell went down. I don't think EG can actually DO the job IMO
Jay,
Tubbs is sooooo loyal to his boys almost to a fault. All outsiders never seem to breakthrough they all leave or get fired. Ever noticed that. If one of his assistants mess up, he just moves them around.
We have Nall a chance, we sucked on offense, he moved him back to the line to coach. Emsminger gave it a try, he sucked, we moved him to qb's and tight ends, hell, he even kept Phillip Lolley on staff as a NFL contact person, when he turned out as a terrible coach. Its like Entourage, Tubbs is Vince Chase, I assume Nall is Turtle, Gran is E and Emsminger is Drama.
What do you think?
Lane Kiffin is out of the question. The problems he had in Oakland was not having full control.
For those of you excited about some more Gran/Nall/Ensminger ball you must understand you saw plenty of it last week. Still excited? They can try to "run downhill" all they want but they won't score many points doing it. That's easy to stop for an average SEC team.
I have even heard Pat Nix as coordinator, not sure I am sold on him, Miami where is OC at has not impressed me much. He played for the baby Cherub, Bowden. Plus Chris Todd reminds me of a baby NIx, without the winning pass to Florida on his resume. Nix has the pass to Florida as a famous painting, so far the only Todd highlight would be his numerous INT's. Plus I still have not found any cleaning product to get that Gorbachav stain off of Nix's forehead.
Absolutely classess homepage video from BMatt and Jeff at Rivals. Those guys have got to be kidding themselves. That's humiliating to watch. I hope BMatt and Jeff feel like winners.
It's all a matter of opinion.
Franklin loading his car is an image I'll never forget.
Jay,
did you catch any of the titles of the books or videos he was carrying?
How To Win Friends And Influence People?
(No, I didn't notice.)
that's alot of books for his offense to only have three running plays in it
that's what i was thinking.
Someone tell me why not Kiffin? Yeah it's just until the end of the year but it would be a chance to prove he's still got the mojo and get his name back out there for something good. The only bad decision he made was going to work for the crypt keeper.
lane kiffin would require alot of money on top of borges and franklin's salary... not going to happen... ever
PLEASE - SHUT - UP - WITH - THE - LANE - KIFFEN - THING!!
Tad ... how's your letter coming.
also who do you think is worth more $$ Al Davis or Bobby Lowder?
This had to happen 3 days before Petrino rolls into town didn't it? What a strange season...
al davis
thanks phred... that needed to be said
that really is strange
lane kiffin, lane kiffin, lane kiffin, lane kiffin, lane kiffin, lane kiffin, lane kiffin, lane kiffin, lane kiffin, lane kiffin,
he would take the job, has to be better than emptying al davis's bed pan.
My odd prediction for the week:
If Tubs loses this weekend, he'll anounce his resignation next week.
will Todd have to give back his Under Armour stuff and those cute little eye-black stickers he wore last weekend? patdyeswildturkey, would knox be Lloyd (Ari's asst)?
muschamp would have been a great ari
If Tuberville resigns or is fired at the end of this year, we'd have to try to get Spurrier out of South Carolina.
to answer the question about Lowder, he damn sure isn't worth as much as last year since his stock dropped to nothing. He needs to concern himself with getting out his mess in Florida and Nevada's real estate markets instead of what is going on in Auburn.
My letter is in my desk drawer to read again tomorrow. I like to let these things sit overnight before sending.
i am dying to know what the players and recruits think, to hell with the coaches, all of them are vested in the states retirement system now after ten years. And here I thought about not going to this weekends game, now i am definitely in, cant wait to see what happens.
who hit who first?
That video was painful to watch. Tubbs cant even buy the BS he's spewing these days.
RIP Tubs.
Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but I hear Lane Kiffin is looking for a job.
Think we could get him? Jay, is he on the short list?????
crudup - you think CTF didn't plan that front door exit with full intention of having the media record it?
c'mon
loser leave town match this weekend, tubbs vs. petrino
i heard the franklin video is on perezhilton.com
sarcasm...
Just watched the Franklin Exit Video. We pay that guy serious money and he is driving........ a Hyundai?
Says a lot that he didnt invest in a nice rig. He may have seen the writing on the wall months ago.
who is lane kiffin?
all the ballers are rolling in a Santa Fe these days.
Jay G - a case study in raw irony ... picking up today's paper at 9:00 PM and reading your article about the shock of YESTERDAYS practice. Wow.
After a bowl of raisin bran, one of my son's pudding snacks, and 15 minutes of Days Of Thunder on some station I didn't know I had, I have come up with the root cause of this whole fiasco ... Tony Franklin and Lane Kiffen are switching jobs.
they have the same number of cup holders as the X5
Wow...what a total cluster...but it's been said here today already..9-3...genius....7-5 6-6...idiot.
Here we go again.
i wonder what raymond cotton is thinking about this
Ole Ray Ray will probably still come to Auburn.
9-3 Pipe dream.
6-6 Maybe, probly.
another website handled by phillip marshall quotes Raymond Cotton as saying he wants a committment from coach tubberville.
I am so sad today...franklin left without signing my yearbook...
Chuck Norris will come in half way through a season.
Ray is wanting Auburn coaches to make a "commitment" to him (would have more details but I don't subscribe to Auburn Undercover).
Crudup,
LSU in 2003 was late in the season, it was the last Saturday in October.
Ray wants a commitment that the bags of cash will continue to show up every Monday morning like they promised.
lord knows the shit storm coming after this one..
say what you will about bamers but they shot high and got the coach they wanted. If we keep saying we can't get someone, he wouldn't want to come here, he would want too much money, that's the mentality of losers. I want the best and if that scares some people and they cant handle it go support someone else.
Gotta love the, "if you don't agree with me, you might as well support another team" posters.
I don't see Kiffin going from a NFL head coach to a college OC.
Maybe I'm wrong but I just don't see it. The AU head coach job, maybe a different story.
yeah ... what he said
per Twitter - Jay G says campfire around 10:10
so Nall is the best Auburn can hope for and we shouldnt want more? maybe I should support another team.
Auburn commit Harris of Lovejoy says he’s still a Tiger
By Jeff Hood | Wednesday, October 8, 2008, 08:05 PM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Lovejoy offensive lineman Andre Harris learned around 8 p.m. tonight that Tony Franklin won’t be his offensive coordinator when he enrolls at Auburn next year.
“I understand that they had to do what’s right for the team,” said Harris, who is rated as the 23rd-best offensive guard in the nation by Scout.com and a member of the AJC’s The Georgia Top 150. “So, I’m not going to disagree with them.”
Harris’ said his commitment isn’t impacted by the decision to replace the offensive coordinator.
“Regardless of who’s coaching me, I’m still going to be an Auburn Tiger,” said Harris, who will play on the Auburn offensive line at guard or tackle. “I can play on any offense.
“I don’t have a preference on a type of offense. My job is to block and get the running backs going and to protect the quarterback.”
Who said Nall is the best we could hope for?
I seriously doubt anyone said that.
As of right now, we don't have much of a choice.
this litle HOTTIE is going to bed. nice all. what a draining day.

My final thoughts...
After I heard tony franklin speak for the first time my thought was, "wow, this guy is honest." Then I started to think how that would go with tuberville's political fascad. It was either going to be like peanut butter and jelly or Kobe and Shaq. It turned out to be the not good scenario. The lack of production, quotes like "Hell I'd boo me," and a loss to a team we hadn't lost to in 50+ years proved to be too much.
As franklin and his MCP drove off in the direction of Troy's campus blarring Air Supply's "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" and text messaging chris todd. I think the spread was riding shotgun in his Hyundai Sante Fe. At least our offense now has some hope for this season instead of watching ben tate get handed the ball out of shotgun and hoping he turns into Bo Jackson from Tecmo Bowl just to get a first down.
So i'm going to sleep and dreaming of two tight end sets, linemen in a three point stance, and play action passes.
I am an idiot.
Someone needs to film me when I get fired.
"LSU wasn't late and UGA killed everybody"
Not everyone. In November 07, when Georgia was shutting down everyone in the SEC, Troy lost in Athens 44-34.
Tony Franklin did that with a Sun Belt team.
key words ... "troy lost in Athens"
"Not everyone. In November 07, when Georgia was shutting down everyone in the SEC, Troy lost in Athens 44-34."
We weren't talking about last year. It was brought up that Nallsminger got better as the year went on, and I brought up the 03 LSU & UGA games were late in the year. I think those were 31-7 & 27-7 with a loss to Ole Miss at home in the middle.
In 2003, Nall did better in the iron bowl and music city bowl, because the week after the uga game (jetgate) he said screw it and quit trying to continue copying petrino and ran more of the smash-mouth game he was comfortable with.
Auburn aired it out against Bama. That's when Nallsminger said "screw it". They new the direction was to bring in a new OC. You had an NFL QB that was barely being used. They opened up his arm after Caddy finished off his greatest run in his history at Auburn. But Auburn was vastly more talented than Alabama.
Bring back Terry Bowden....when he was on his game great play caller....think Steve Davis sweeps with passes all over the field.
Stephen Davis barely touched the ball under Bowden!
Good morning, peeps.
I'm headed up momentarily and will update upon arrival. Practice (allegedly) starts around 8:30 and I'm sure it'll last a good while.
My "Hatin with Jay G" segment out of Jackson is on schedule for 8:30ish CDT.
morning. what's the website for the HATIN' segment?
Crupup....Check your stats
Bowden never used the RB's. In 94 he used Davis, in 95 he cut him back. After that he never really focused recruiting RB's or featured them ever again.
Jay,
What's the link to the radio station?
Guys,
notice I did say 'when Bowden was on his game'...Lets face it, Tubberville wants a power running game and timely passing....like that team from across the state is running right now....cant believe he is 'sticking with the spread'
Bowden was off his game far more than he was on his game.
Scott, no need to check my stats. Refer to RK for further evidence from a guy who knows his sh*t.
Davis was wastes away at Auburn. He was a MUCH better pro obviously.
To bring up Bowden is senseless.
WOW,
tough to say when you go 20-1-1 your first two years. Granted Bowden ended up beinig a f'up and put the program back a couple of years, but you cant argue his offensive accumen
Can't argue Franklin's either can you? He tore it up at Troy. What about Borges? Auburn had the league's best O for two consecutive years but he could also run the football.
Once Bowden started getting his own players in, things fell apart quickly. He was 27-16 after the 1994 season.
Without Dameyune Craig, we probably are .500 during that time.
rk, worse than that without DC.
Hey anonymous,
I have been screaming that all year.....were we really in that bad a shape in the first place?
no we weren't. we're only as bad as the measure of ctt's influence on the offense. or should we say meddling?
So who's on the bubble to be the next OC? Pat Nix? Norm Chow? What about Pat Sullivan? Can we say that 'Momma called' and get him from Samford?
As for the gloom and doom prognosticators - did any of you really believe there would be any improvement over the next four games? How about our chances with the Spread against the Amen corner? We've got about five or six weeks to perfect an adequate offense in preparation for the last two games.
It's bad to change in midstream, but if the horse is unable to swim, it doesn't pay to ride him into deep water. My thinking is that even with a basic "Ace" package, our athleticism and defense will get us enough to win the next two games. After that, Auburn will need a good scheme to beat Ole Miss and then a better one to compete against Georgia and Bama.
For that, we'll need a good OC and a well practiced scheme that is deep enough to make adjustments in the second half.
