The Let's-Do-Spring-Practice-Again (LDSPA) team

WEDNESDAY MORNING
Post No. 1,196

Hey everyone. Nice work on yesterday's thread. We closed in on the HABOTN comment record before I succumbed to comment anxiety. They make stuff for that. I don't have any.

Since we spent (some) time yesterday talking about spring practice "winners," let's talk about some guys who may not have fond memories of the past month.
  • Barrett Trotter: Days after learning he wasn't a finalist for The Job, Trotter tears an ACL during a non-contact drill. That's a double whammy only Philip Pierre-Louis can fully appreciate. Trotter has a bright future, but that clearly won't begin until 2011. Surely the top 2009 quarterback will keep his job into 2010. Right?

  • Ryan Shoemaker: The team's only scholarship punter was hoping to get his job back. Clinton Durst punted better last season, became the starter and acted a fool in January by trying to strong-arm the coaching staff into giving him a scholarship. Shoemaker's window of opportunity slammed on his fingers, though, because Durst apparently was the better kicker again this spring. He also is still here despite not having a scholarship. The depth chart can change in a heartbeat, but Shoemaker clearly is losing relevance.

  • Mario Fannin: Did he perform poorly? No. Did he sulk about not being a tailback? No. Still, I don't think Fannin is thrilled about his (apparent) role on this team. He spent most of spring ball working at inside receiver and only moonlighted at tailback once Eric Smith was lost with a leg injury. Fannin was productive as a receiver at A-Day, so this story could have a happy ending. I just don't think this is what Fannin was hoping to see.

  • Chris Todd: Shoulder surgery limited him throughout spring practice. I never saw him throw a single pass. The senior became a bystander as Kodi Burns and Neil Caudle made meaningful first impressions with new offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. Can Todd get back in the race? It's possible. He's supposed to be "healthy" in time for summer workouts and will have a chance to prove himself in two-a-days. Is it too late? I think it is.

SIDE NOTE: As you know, I have no problem being critical of Auburn when I think Auburn makes mistakes. I don't think this UCLA thing is a big deal. ESPN tried to make a love connection there and the Auburn administration wasn't feeling it. So what? Auburn deserved all the hell it endured back in 1999 when it begged bought out its game against Florida State. This is a completely different deal. Plus, when did UCLA become so prestigious that no program in its right mind would turn down a home-and-home invitation?

GaTiger?

Far from redneck? I'll say.

He was raised on a plantation, actually. Sipped mint juleps out of a baby bottle. Wore a seersucker suit and white bucks the first day of school because it was before Labor Day. Had a maid, a butler, a valet and a chaffeur.

Old money boy.

Went to Washington and Lee, but was "asked to leave" after an unfortunate event. It would be ungentlemanly of him to speak of it.

Hangs around the country club these days. Plays golf, sails, coaches a youth lacrosse team and helps the debate team at the local uppity private school.

Masquerades today as a humble Auburn fan.

Micheal used the word Vortex, which took me back to my childhood. Why you ask? Vortex footballs, those things where great. I However still can't throw one 100 Yards... Elway didn't seem to have a problem doing it.

Blogger AUfan said...

If Fannin does remain a receiver, I'll go ahead and predict some DB's Auburn faces will be looking for someone else to tackle him. That guy is a monster. I always wonder with Mario if he is more of an outstanding athlete with no true position. Is it the shoulder that makes the coaches not play him at running-back?

4:13 PM

I had a nerf football that whistled when you threw it. I think if footballs whistled on the collegiate level that attendance would increase 3%, and fans would be encouraged to be quite like at a golf event to everyone could hear the whistle.

Favorite FG episode? Easy. "Patriot Games"

"Cowboy Astronaut Millionaire" Peter meets Tom Brady at a high school reunion and ends up joining the Patriots.

The best part, Stewie bets Brian that Carol Channing will beat Mike Tyson in a celebrity boxing match. She does, and Stewie tries to collect the bet. Hilarity ensues.

Jet- I completely agree.

Do you have money? Where's my money"

That is one of the funniest things on TV I have ever seen, especially when stewie blows off Brian's knee caps. I love it.

Spoke with several kids on the Special Teams and they have questions on why Shoemaker isn't starting. They said that they chart every kick and Shoemaker has been dominant on distance, hang time, and get off time but still hasn't been given the chance to work with the first team. It was reported that the special teams coach didn't look at the charting until Spring was over. Doesn't sound like much of an open competition.

Good morning all!!

THT - A bit stressed that the CAPS are down 3-1 but hey, it will make for 1st round drama.

All - In hour 3 on Rivals Radio Gene Chizik will be on.

AU1 - I like the Caps, but I wish there was some way the Rangers & Caps could eliminate themselves in this round. Both scare the poo out of me in regards to a matchup with the Penguins.

Family Guy is just another bunch of liberal trash the conservatives/Christians show with no point.

Seth MacFarlane should be sent to war where he can be brutalized by the people he wishes were running the show here.

I find no humor in this at all.

South Park is solid, balanced social commentary.

Why did all the gas stations in NC remove their squeegies this week? We're not in a drought. I remember the days when you didn't even have to get out of your car to get gas & clean windshield. I don't mind pumpin my gas but, by golly, let me clean my windshield, too!!!

There are very few songs where I like to listen only to the bass. Springsteen's Backstreets is one of those songs. But it's an almost impossible feat due to that incredible Professor. The dude can flat play the piano, and I just can't ignore good piano.

Jet,

Next you'll tell me you pull for Bammer when they don't play Auburn.

You are not to be trusted.

AU1 - me too. I really think the Rangers are having an out of body experience moreso than it being poor play by the Caps.

THT,

Check out my friend Josh's site Confessions of a Fan Boy. He chronicles the Bruce tour quite well.

Gnome, time to take your pill and lay down for a while.

Like I said, the joke 3 or 4 weeks ago when Peter said he had shaken his kid to make him quit crying and the kid died was where they went too far for me.

No doubt the show is funny, but everyone has a line that people shouldn't cross and that was mine.

MST3K never crossed that line, some I'm still cool with it and I agree with ehyou that it's a shame it's not still on the air somewhere. That was comedy gold.

Does it bother y'all that I'm wearing non-matching socks? It bothers the crap out of me. (All my socks are navy blue, by non-matching I mean I have 2 "right" socks and no left sock).

It happens on occasion because I never check my socks when I pull them out of the drawer. It's only when I'm putting them on as I near my destination that I notice (I always leave house barefooted- that is NOT up for discussion here).

The temptation to cut 4 holes out of the top of my unmatched socks (the logos and a matching pair of holes on the other side) has been quite strong. However, I've decided to forego instant gratification and just put a spare pair of matched socks in the car as soon as I get home today. That way I'll have a left or a right sock handy if the need arises.

Confession is good for the soul. And possibly amusing to others who knew I was weird, but didn't know I was THAT weird.
