The Let's-Do-Spring-Practice-Again (LDSPA) team
WEDNESDAY MORNING
Post No. 1,196
Hey everyone. Nice work on yesterday's thread. We closed in on the HABOTN comment record before I succumbed to comment anxiety. They make stuff for that. I don't have any.
Since we spent (some) time yesterday talking about spring practice "winners," let's talk about some guys who may not have fond memories of the past month.
SIDE NOTE: As you know, I have no problem being critical of Auburn when I think Auburn makes mistakes. I don't think this UCLA thing is a big deal. ESPN tried to make a love connection there and the Auburn administration wasn't feeling it. So what? Auburn deserved all the hell it endured back in 1999 when itbegged bought out its game against Florida State. This is a completely different deal. Plus, when did UCLA become so prestigious that no program in its right mind would turn down a home-and-home invitation?

Hey everyone. Nice work on yesterday's thread. We closed in on the HABOTN comment record before I succumbed to comment anxiety. They make stuff for that. I don't have any.
Since we spent (some) time yesterday talking about spring practice "winners," let's talk about some guys who may not have fond memories of the past month.
- Barrett Trotter: Days after learning he wasn't a finalist for The Job, Trotter tears an ACL during a non-contact drill. That's a double whammy only Philip Pierre-Louis can fully appreciate. Trotter has a bright future, but that clearly won't begin until 2011. Surely the top 2009 quarterback will keep his job into 2010. Right?
- Ryan Shoemaker: The team's only scholarship punter was hoping to get his job back. Clinton Durst punted better last season, became the starter and acted a fool in January by trying to strong-arm the coaching staff into giving him a scholarship. Shoemaker's window of opportunity slammed on his fingers, though, because Durst apparently was the better kicker again this spring. He also is still here despite not having a scholarship. The depth chart can change in a heartbeat, but Shoemaker clearly is losing relevance.
- Mario Fannin: Did he perform poorly? No. Did he sulk about not being a tailback? No. Still, I don't think Fannin is thrilled about his (apparent) role on this team. He spent most of spring ball working at inside receiver and only moonlighted at tailback once Eric Smith was lost with a leg injury. Fannin was productive as a receiver at A-Day, so this story could have a happy ending. I just don't think this is what Fannin was hoping to see.
- Chris Todd: Shoulder surgery limited him throughout spring practice. I never saw him throw a single pass. The senior became a bystander as Kodi Burns and Neil Caudle made meaningful first impressions with new offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. Can Todd get back in the race? It's possible. He's supposed to be "healthy" in time for summer workouts and will have a chance to prove himself in two-a-days. Is it too late? I think it is.

Sensi - Luv1968 is a full-time HABOTN Hottie whose hobby/profession is an X-ray Technologist. Photons & Quantum Mottle relate to her profession.

Cool. Thanks. THT

Who is your favorite former AU player currently in the NFL?
For me, Ronnie Brown and the Wildcat formation.
I'm interested in the results of the draft insofar as relates to AU players. Otherwise, I have no interest whatsoever.
S. Marks will go in the 3rd o4 4th round.
Green will be a 2nd-4th rounder.
Others - probably UFAs in my opinion.
Brandon Jacobs
THT - I seem to recall a post earlier this week from Lux that this was a short week at her "hobby", so, I'd bet she's spending her time away somewhere playing golf.
Jet - who loves ya baby?
*Luv (Lux was Lex Luthor's little knows and much less diabolical twin brother). Sorry for the confusion.
Ahh Brandon Jacobs, another colossal failure in utilizing talent...
*known.
Dang these typos. Diggers UATalized keyboard must've infected mine. 12, 12, 12...
Yeah, THT. Don't see how Auburn can claim that. Tubs wanted him to play defense.
gatiger - you must conflagrate your keyboard immediately! Torch the keyboard, save the world.
Did anyone notice the rogue hawk in the NBA game last night? I don't watch it but it was on at the Pizza Bar I go to on Wednesdays...apparently the hawk escaped and flew around unabated for about 10 minutes.
66 - Ben Grubbs OL for the Baltimore Ravens!!
Also, does anyone have Rivals Radio to listen to Chizle this morning?!
I can't sit in my car due to a meeting this morning.
Seanzie they were talking about "Spirit" all morning long. Evidently he was dive bombing, or at least circling the arena, during the first quarter.
We have a no streaming work zone here, so I get to hear NONE of the cool stuff everyone else does, like the RT when Jay's on.
My fave - Takeo
Yup this is also a no stream zone, and how can anyone like the Ravens? I'm sorry, I'm bitter.
As AU1IN04 and tommyd take over the blog
Getting tired of my free time coming when everyone else has to work. Thanks for being on Seanzie!
Hey, I do what I can. It's been a slow week up here at 1 Coke Plaza.
Because work has been uncooperative, I've missed puppet hour 3 times this week.
My favorite current NFL player from Auburn is a tie with Takeo Spikes and Ronnie Brown.
Honorable mention goes to Tony Richardson for being in the NFL since 1994.
I have a second fave - Heath Evans
MrTommyD- Puppet Hour is any hour you want it to be. Work almost always prevents me from attending "The Original Puppet Hour".
Seanzie,
Do you work outside of the Gump?
Say hey to Ken from HR for me if you do. He knows me by the my real name.
See learnin' new things every day. Although I'm not sure about having a puppet hour without Jet and Micahel.
Is there still a TMOA going on?
don't know if they are all still on rosters, but...
Ronnie Brown
Carl Stewart
Tommy Jackson
Dontarrious Thomas
all top-notch citizens with diplomas in hand.
ok, I'll humiliate myself, what's a TMOA? I've seen that here a couple of times but missed it's introduction.
its, not it's
Dang it Gatiger, you haven't conflgarted your keyboard yet have you. Now look waht's happined.
Ten Minutes Of Al.com
Everyone blogs as if they were on al.com That's why it's only ten minutes, because that's just about as much as anyone can really take
My fave ...
Leonardo Carson.
We're talkin' about the National Felons League, right?
Oh, the National Football League.
One of ours is on my fave pro team, so it's gotta be Marcus McNeill of the San Diego Chargers.
Plus, we have the bonus of ex-AU tight end/defensive end/safety Philip Rivers being on that team.
Seanzie - I live in Baltimore....it is pretty easy that way.
Jet,
The window is closing out in SD. I'm afraid if Norv doesn't hoist some conference hardware this year, that'll be it for him.
What say you? How do you think they'll draft?
Norv is on the hot seat
Ben Grubbs story for ya, AU1 ...
On the Friday following Sept. 11, 2001 ... Ben's Elmore County High School team came to Montgomery to play our school.
Ben was three times the size of anyone on the field. He played tight end for the Panthers. HE NEVER TOUCHED THE BALL.
Two years later, T. Trott was playing against our team -- touched it five times at RB (usually played TE or slow). The only times he didn't get 20-plus on those carries were when the pesky end zone stopped him.
The lesson? An unused weapon is a worthless weapon.
Bomb UAT.
During coverage of the NFL Draft, do you think ESPN will comment on AU not scheduling UCLA in favor of Ark St?
MrTommyD - thanks.
that's gross. I think OMOA is too much. There's no way I could last a full TMOA.
That's not an excuse AUN! J/k. Sensi, I work up in Atlanta, but I know a few guys down there at the Gump plant.
Jet - don't I remember correctly a young Tommy Agee lighting up said school back in the day? But, then again, who didn't?
Good morning everybody!
Luv is in Destin. I miss her already.
You are quite welcome Tarheel. I figure if I ever get to be a part all I'm going to do is write Got 6? folowed by got 12? over and over again for ten minutes, or one minute if we go by your suggestion
Gatiger- That will be the lead story.
Norv Turner is one foot out the door at this point...of course he and LT might go away together. I bet they draft a RB this year fairly high, but their need is on Defense, especially Dline in my opinion.
Is it really TMOA?
Hey peeps.
What's the haps?
I miss Destin.
But the Chargers pretty much have their division already wrapped up this year, don't they?
Did I ever tell you all the Leo Carson/Jeremy Zills story?
No Seanzie, just splaining to THT what it was all about
I need to be in Destin, too.
Luv should have shown this bloggist some respect/admiration and brought me along to be her drink boy.
Any one going to Mullet Toss 2009?
Tell us the story, Jay.
Carson and Zills would be a strange combo, so this story could be pretty good.
Morning Hot Ones!
My favorite AU players currently in the NFL would be Takeo Spikes. He displays the tough AU mentality that characterizes the tradition of our program.
Fav player "almost" still in the NFL: #98 DE Willie Whitehead! He was a walk-on before becoming a star on campus. Played with the Saints for 8 seasons after going to the 49ers then the CFL for 3 years.
I remember Willie Whitehead, DL from the mid 90's.
Good Morning Monica, JayGT, BIGCat!!!
I was always surprised that Auburn's DB's from the early 90's with Brian Robinson, Chris Shelling, Fred Smith & Ken Alvis didn't get better looks by the NFL. Those guys picked off everything that was in the air...the only weak link was Del McGee.
Monica- thanks for confirming the vacation news on Luv. I'm guess she's probably about ready to make the turn on her first 18 of the day. Apparently her golf-cart is not internet enabled.
Brian Robinson should have stayed in school, assuming it was his choice. Leaving after jr year didn't do him any good.
Come on JGT, out with it.
Carson/Zills story has got to be better than my sock diatribe
Where's that story Jay promised earlier?
We could have a daily story time with Jay G in the threads each day while there is not athletics news. Since some of them will hopefully be juicy, we can keep it off the front page. Just a suggestion.
Speaking of Destin, I haven't been to that area for awhile and I'm heading there with my wife next weekend. Any recommendations on what to do other than the beach? Or places to eat?
Great suggestion Michael. "Morning Story Time w/ Jay G."
I've never been to Destin...My wife and I are going to St. Augustine in 2 weeks though. It'll be good to get away and hang out on the beach.
Wifey and I LOVE destin. Actually we love any place with a white sandy beach and emerald waters.
Eddie - Marina Cafe for a very nice dinner.
Gatiger's wife will be in Seaside (30 minutes or so east of Destin) this weekend. That area is a mighty fine place to be.
Story time w/JGT, most excellent.
Another Broken Egg Cafe for breakfast.
JGT Storytime?! Absolutely great idea!
I look back on story time with my 3rd grade teacher very fondly. Pippi Longstocking, Dr Doolittle, etc. Of course, she was a pretty hawt teacher, so that didn't hurt.
Jay GT is almost as hawt, so story time sounds like a winner!
I never, ever had a hot teacher. A reasonably attractive Adjunct Professor in college, but that's it.

Thanks Tommy. I will have to check those places out.
I'm all for Story Time with Jay G.
Destin was a great place once upon a time. Traffic is so bad now you can't go anywhere quickly.
30-A and the West end of Panama City Beach (Sunnyside)are my destinations of choice.
Want a great day?
Visit Camp Helen State Park at the foot of Lake Powell bridge. Park and walk to the inlet. Heaven on earth.
While I loved the Destin of old days, it's become a bit too crowded for me. Give me any spot along the 30A Highway and I'm in H-E-A-V-E-N.
Seaside was magical until it was "discovered". We used to spend nearly every weekend somewhere along the 30A. Check out http://www.beachesofsouthwalton.com/
In Destin AJ's, The Back Porch, Crabtrap are pretty good on consistent basis. And of course if you haven't been to the Donut Hole (the ORIGINAL one) you haven't been to Destin. Now, if you want a real treat you have to check out Cafe Tango - it's a nice place for dinner. If you like it deep fried, sandy, great icy cold beer check out Goatfeathers. A GREAT place for lunch is Smiling Fish Cafe.
OH MY GAWD I'M HOMESICK! sigh
The Donut Hole -- GREAT call!! Has Santo Rosa Island been discovered yet?
One other thing ... Aubie, apologies for just noticing, but what the hell is going on in your avatar?
New Thread up...
In my MUCH younger days the Donut Hole was particularly yummy after an evening at NightTown. HAHAHA If anyone here remembers NighTown you are old school, indeed. Now, I think it's called The Swamp. I had some seriously big hair back then.
Ok, I've been thinking about this all night.
If he wrote a song about Kitty's small happy cat, it would be...
Kitty Twitty's itty bitty giddy kitty ditty.
Jet - Had a meeting and just read the story. Crazy huh?
