Days to kickoff: 2
Our Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute is brought to you by the number:
2
HAPPY BEN OBOMANU DAY!!!
Ben Obomanu: Selma, Ala.; WR 2002-05; ACADEMIC ALL-SEC in 2003 & 2004; Auburn's leading receiver in 2005. Despite the drop against Ole Miss, Ben ranks second in career TD receptions with 18, one ahead of Karsten Bailey and 11 behind Terry Beasley. Ben ranks 8th in career receptions and 13th in career receiving yards.
Jay G. note: Best interview I've ever seen was Obomanu answering questions at the podium following the Ole Miss drop. He answered honestly. He answered for several minutes. Had YouTube been big then -- or if ESPN was doing around-the-clock college coverage like it does now -- Obomanu would be a household name far beyond Alabama.
HONORABLE MENTION
* Willie Gosha : Ft. Walton, Fla.; WR 1993-96; tied with Frank Sanders for most receptions (58) in one season; Willie holds AU single game record for receptions (17 vs. Arkansas) and is also tied for 3rd (10 vs. Army); his 222 receiving yards vs Arkansas is third highest total in Auburn history.
* Tim Carter: St. Petersburg, Fla.; WR 1998-2001; Auburn's leading receiver in 2001 and leading kickoff returner in 2000. He had a 100-yard kickoff return against LSU in 2000.
* Chuck Clanton: Pensacola, Fla.; CB 1980-82
* Otis Mounds: Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; TB 1991-94
* Cornelius Joseph Dennis "Neil" O'Donoghue: Dublin, Ireland; PK 1975-76; ALL-AMERICAN in 1976; Neil still holds Auburn record for longest FG: 57 yards, set in 1976 vs Tennessee (since matched by Philip Yost). The lanky Irishman, standing over 6-foot-6, was playing soccer at St. Bernard College in Cullman during the 1970s. When the school eliminated its soccer program, Neil transferred to Auburn and kicked the prolate spheroid for two years. He parlayed that experience into a nine-year NFL career. His first game at Auburn was only the third football game he'd ever played in.

I'm too excited for substance!!! And too slow!
or maybe not!
you got it... pure substance
you got it... pure substance
Now I'm singing that Roy Orbison song. But it's a good song, so it's OK, DL.
Well done. You beat Cincy.
I added this in the other thread, so sorry for the copy and paste...
My honorable mention goes to Corey Lewis.
Lewis was from Gallatin, TN and at Auburn from 89-92 I believe. He was in the 3 way battle with Stan White and Frank McIntosh for the starting QB job that White eventually won. He would be White's back up for a couple of years.
Corey lived in Ooltewah right outside of Chattanooga for a while after he graduated. Unfortunately leukemia took his life far too early about 10 years ago at age 31.
So to me it's Corey Lewis day!
I had her internet service disconnected. And I took my chances on the unreliability of North Korea's power stations helping me out.
OBOMANU on the reverse.....TOUCHDOWN AUBURN!!!!!!!
Norm, my dad's a crazy guy. sometimes you sing all the verses and sometimes you change it up. but i agree, that 3rd verse could sometimes get neglected. very sad really.
Obomanu showed a lot of guts that day for not backing down from the questions after that huge drop. I have a ton of respect for him.
Two years later one of our coaches (David Gibbs) ran away from the same responsibility twice following games when he should have followed the example that Obomanu had already set.
I remember Gosha's big night in Fayetteville well...we fell behind big - caught up - and lost. But that same night, the Braves won the World Series.
Otis deserves more!! His recruitment by Auburn could be the biggest factor for our 93 season. His role in our program is still being felt today with Hot Carter. Pat took a chance on him and Otis my man didn't dissapoint.
Another great job THT!!
War Damn Eagle
Hornet,
I remember that night as the night the Braves won the world series, not as the night that cost us a trip to Atlanta that year. Had we beaten Arkansas we would have won the west.
THTJr just showed me these photos of some really great horrible parents.

Speaking of the BC coaching sitiation...........
Jags just got fired by the Bucs :).
What an idiot.
Tim Carter was FAH on that kick return vs LSU. I had brought a couple of friends with me to that game and one is a guy who never gets excited for anything...including 100 yard kick off returns. While the stadium was going crazy, he just stayed sitting in his seat. Everyone was questioning if he had a heartbeat.
A down Carter moment was his streaking down the sideline in Fayetteville in 2001 when that game was still somewhat close and he just fumbled the ball without being touched. No idea what just happened there.
I disagree with parts of this story, but it's still worth reading.
Answers coming for nation's most fascinating coach: Gene Chizik
I'm really feeling it.
Coach Chizzy is America's most fascinating coach?
Nice to have another '04 player on the list.
Since we were #1 in '04
Signed,
AU1N04
Hornet's avatar is wiggidy wiggidy whack.
MonD, that seems a little far-fetched to me as well.
Hmm can't wait to hear how JJ got himself run before the season even started.
"Did his coaching mojo Peter out in Ames? For Pete's sake, the Tigers had better hope not." Andy Staples
Nice couple of lines.
Interesting theory.
Good read.
We'll know soon.
Jagodzinski - You want to talk about a guy falling from grace.
JayGT - I agree with your disagreements
Thanks Jay, good read. A couple of points of disagreement myself, but still interesting. My boss is a USC donor and he has talked (and laughed) often about the unpopular hiring of Carrol (says he was on board from the start), which more than anything, says alot about many college football fans.
Also, Cole Cubelic...classy guy.
How can he get fired before coaching a real game?
I can't wait to hear this one.
TWO F-BOMBING DAYS TO GO!
I like Cole, too. Good dude.
Every time a new AU coach makes his debut, I drink an extra fifth of bourbon before the game while tailgating.
As you can imagine, Tots debut in 93 was rough on me when I was 13.
The Chupacabra has returned.
Fear envelops part of the nation...
btw, Mr. Tate, I love the photo you chose for today.
"Eat my dust" Ben runs away from UA-T defenders.
Coach Tot!
Cole Cubelic...eh.
Never been a fan.
Chain Gailey got fired the other day as the Chiefs OC as well. Crazy.
When did coaches start getting fired before the season? Especially ones that were in new positions like those 2.
Ben had that great reverse for a TD and that catch that looked like he stretched up to the heavens and snagged that Cox pass for a TD. great game for him, and us.
Lawyer Tilman
1986
Greatest reverse I've ever seen
Loved when Ben scored and he made the frat "q dog" gesture.
Nor I RK, my sarcasm does not translate well on the internet, or I misread Jay's. I only knew Cole during his senior year, but he was always an arrogant pr--k when I saw him. I know my brother largely agrees, and he knows him far better than I do having worked with the o-line while Cole was there for three years or so.
Cubelic comes across that way when I've heard him on the radio and doing games.
Definately the sweetest reverse Sensi.
Also the reverse that "felt" the best.
Such a great feeling walkin out of Legion with a victory.
I think the first play of this year should be a reverse to erase the moment our offense started it's rapid death...the fumbled Prechae Rodriguez reverse in the 2005 Iron Bowl.
Right after that play our offense left and hasn't come back.
I plead the 5th on Cole. As my brother said, Classy Guy. By the way, after reading that crap he said, take a look at this interview with him...
Cubelic's Take on the Auburn Upcoming Season
Sensi - I almost mentioned the mysterious monster!!
The Chupacabra.
From beneath you, it devours.
$10 to Joss Whedon
Eddie - Do you know when that Cubelic thing was written? I ask this because of his comments about Tyrick.
" They (coaches) didn’t bring him in to redshirt. How much he plays or if he has his own package, so to speak, time will tell, but he’s going to get reps." ~Cubelic
Monica- I'm not sure when they wrote the piece, it was just published and Cole sent out the link.
Loved this quote from Cubelic about Gus:
"he might know too much about offense"
Yeah, a little too Raph. That made me laugh. I feel better about Gus being too smart as opposed to hearing Franklin saying last year that's he not smart and he's not going to outthink or outcoach anybody.
Interesting, was reading on SI about an early look at 2010 draft picks for the NFL. Mario Fannin made the running backs list. Discuss.
Tar Heel, those pictures were disturbing. I couldn't even look at all of them.
Funny story about Obamanu and "The Drop." I had Real Estate class with him the season after "The Drop." It was the Thursday before the Ole Miss game. The teacher clearly didn't follow AU football and had no idea Obamanu had dropped the game winner last season. When class was over, someone mentioned to the teacher that it was Obamanu's bday. The teacher told him "Happy Birthday" and then said, "Don't drop any passes this weekend." You could have heard a pin drop and everyone looked like they wanted to stab the teacher in the face! It was AWESOME!
Good Story, Shesaid.
Come to think of it, maybe the teacher did follow AU football and knew exactly what he was doing. Tough love? I think it worked considering AU went undefeated.
It's not as funny if it's not ironic.
Otis Mounds, a favorite to be sure. Will Otis Mounds please report to the locker room? Tim Carter was another favorite. O'Donohue was another great one. Was Eagle!!!
SEC Kickoff Day!!! Let's here it for those Gamecocks!!! Go Darth Visor!!!
And two. What an incredible number. Sure, it seems small, but it is twice as big as one.
I totally agree about Ben, Jay...he was a man about it. That was one of my beefs with Gibbs after our loss to Wis. in the Bowl game after the 2005 season. He bolted before the presser. A man will face the good and the bad...good stuff.
The Obamanu interview did make College Football Final back then... the ESPN guys were impressed I remember.
wow, my head is spinning. I can feel it now its so close. Football games tonight. HS football Friday night and heading to the Plains on Saturday. It will surely be a great, great weekend, three day weekend at that.
I have moved 32 rows down this year in my season tickets so I plan on having a better view barring a large person in front of me or a continous stander, person with a baby on their shoulders or a person with a large hat or the contstant getting up for food and bathroom person.
Nations Most Fascinating Coach? I don't think so - The word Fascinating and the name Chizik do not belong in a sentence together. Now he might qualify for Nations Most Analyzed New Coach. Everybody will be watching just waiting to say "I Told You So" if he gets off to less than a stellar start.
LT
Has the story about Devin Aromashodu sending flowers to the Bears coaching staff to help his chances of getting the last receiver spot already been talked about.
Dan if it has I haven't seen it on here. I thought that was a hoot. I heard it on Herd.
Yeh, that's where I heard it also. Thought it was funny.
dan - No it hasn't. If that is the case, I am not sure how I feel about that.
Not sure I would have chosen flowers, maybe gift cards to a nice restaurant or something.
Herd did say that Cutler was in his corner so that might help.
Candlesticks are nice.
A nice spa treatment maybe?
A friend of mine makes these Auburn wreaths. If you're interested let me know.
Auburn Door Wreath
Does she do any Chicago Bears themed wreaths?
I remember going to Opelika First Baptist the morning after the Ole Miss game, and Ben O. was there in service.
That left and indelible impression me; another Selma man making good at AU, and expressing his faith strongly.
BTW, I don't think that group of recievers on the 2004-2005 teams gets enough credit for how good those 04-05 offesnses were. Ben O. Devin A. Nix and Courtney Taylor are all still in the NFL in some capacity, (whereas Mike Williams and the Colbert kid washed out). You saw what happened to the offesne after they graduated.
Beautiful wreath Omnica, but ever since I left that Christmas tree up until March, I have avoided decorations.

I think the first play of this year should be a reverse to erase the moment our offense started it's rapid death...the fumbled Prechae Rodriguez reverse in the 2005 Iron Bowl.
Right after that play our offense left and hasn't come back.
That play occurred just moments after a Bama DB cold-cocked Borges on the sidelines. He was never the same.
BTW, I wonder if Ben ever got annoyed with Tuberville's complete inability to pronounce his last name correctly?
OH-buh-ma-NOO? He really had to work to come up with that pronunciaton.
As for Obamanu, you have to respect a kid that has that much maturity, similar to the way Kodi handled the QB situation.
A lot of kids could learn from Obamanu. I hope the coaches showed the team video of that, too. No, not just the drop against Ole Miss. Show how he handled it. There are some players that, if they make a mistake, more seem to just flow from it. Cox and INTs come to mind.
A player that puts a mistake behind him quickly is a valuable thing. Ever player makes mistakes. Few recover as quickly as Obamanu did, especially in such a highly publicized mistake.
Eddie - Matt Lowe says he did that piece with Cubelic last Tuesday.
Yes, she does, Dan.
That's the good thing about Auburn decorations, Steve. You never take them down.
I wish I could see the wreath, Monica, but, alas, FB is blocked here at work.
shesaid, that teacher story is incredible. Any time you see a kid with such maturity, it seems you always see and adult whom is lacking.
For those newer hotties, you may want to get an account at chatroll in preparation for the campfires. Also, rest up for it. It is chat on steroids.
Luv - Try this.
Auburn Door Wreath
"The page cannot be found"
Thanks, for trying, though, Monica!
as promised, i have been mostly worthless at work today. just 4 more hours of pretending. yippee.
I'll try one more time, Luv! lol
Auburn Door Wreath
Whoa Monica, Martha Stewart would be impressed
what is chatroll?
Just to be clear. I don't do those wreaths a friend of mine makes all sorts and sells them.
Monica, you're not supposed to say that.
OK. I take it back. I do them and Martha just WISHES she was me.
Hey,I realized in an earlier thread that one of the resident geezers and me have something in common...can't wait to meet you, Digger.
Monica, that one worked. If you know anything about me, you know that they are not me.
You both love me.
Me either, Luv, but I thought I'd put it out there.
Are they selling like hotcakes?
Chatroll.com is the site that hosts our chats.
You can participate in chats here without being a Chatroll.com member, but you won't have the cool blue name and avatar.
Registration is free.
She makes all sorts of holiday and sports ones and yep, she sells lots of them. They are really cute if you're into that sort of thing.
i couldn't access my chatroll account so i had to set up a new one. ready to roll baby!
avatars are fun. so is blue. hooray for blue.
Beware the BANHAMMER.
Respect my AUTHORI-TIE.
Gulp.
sounds like someone's got an itchy trigger finger today.
i like it.
Cecil Fielder meets slow fastball, what?!
Hannah Montana say whaaaattttt?
"Cecil Fielder of the Detroit Tigers is credited with powering a ball 502 feet in the air over the left-field bleachers at Milwaukee's County Stadium on September 14, 1991."
Scottie...what were you thinkin?
Mike Price got fired before caoching a game.
Just sayin'
I am sad. I will not make the 4pmEST roll due to company restrictions. It's like the Soup Nazi. Unless I leave early. Not feeling so good. Cough cough.
let's just say my wife watches the Disney Channel. i can only avoid it so much.
yup, she does. don't judge me.
What are we supposed to sing when we stand and sing?
ha @ "don't judge me"
I ready for the Camp Fire...
Had to try umpteen times to remember my password - all is good in the world.
MonD: How about some Spinal Tap?
I'm thinking "Stonehenge."
for some reason i have this stuck in my head:
"Here I am....Rock You Like A Hurricane."
over & over & over & over.
Due to work conflicts, I will be unable to gather by the fire with the HOTTIES today or tonight.
Please know that I will be with you in spirit.
As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.
- Mick Shrimpton
You won't find that on the Disney Channel!
I ain't judgin'
Oohh Thanks Alot Scottie - Now I got it stuck in my head.... And I never liked that song.
BANHAMMER TIME LATER!
Monica,
The song will be announced by the song leader. I don't know that is.
who
I dont think i can make the Campfire, DAMN!
Any clue what the intro song for AU is this year?
Stonehenge - I love it!!!
The name of my favorite Spinal Tap song probably isn't HABOTN appropriate.
AU1N04, i watch a lot of FX shows on tuesday nites and sports to balance out the Disney & HGTV i have to watch.
Jhag, you drop what you're doing and you make it to this campfire, do you hear me?
Sound familiar, Scottie B?
I don't take no crap from anyone (else but you),
I wear the pants around here (when I'm finished with your laundry),
Cause I'm a guy you don't wanna fight,
When I say jump (you say, "Yeah Right!")
I'm the man of this house (until you get home).
Best album ever: Smell the Glove
Speaking of FX I can't wait for Damages to come back on!!
too familiar Jetson.
Do
What
We
Do
yup, Always Sunny in Philly starts in 2 weeks and Nip/Tuck comes back in october. yes!
Rescue Me has 22 episodes this summer and was ausome. that Tommy Gavin, man, he's one screwed up fella.
I'll probably miss the campfire as well.
So that will probably cut the obscure player reference total down a little.
Second best album: "Pull My Finger."
Scottie B - Don't worry, I feel your pain. Bravo is a fixture and the Real Houswifes of Who Cares is always on. I did like NY though. Atlanta too ghetto. NJ a bit mafioso but good.
Was that out loud? Ugh!
In the category of best line from a television drama:
Damages
Asshat attorny to Glen Close:
"If you were a man I'd hit you."
Glenn Close to asshat:
"If you were a man I'd be worried."
that was one of the best lines from Season 2 Monnie. looking forward to winter 2010 for season 3.
i read the main stars were originally contracted for 6 seasons.
I hope it never ends.
Housewives of NJ could have been Housewives of Brewton.
Just sayin
The original Smell the Glove album art was deemed inappropriate by the record producer, so they made it entirely black.
"It's like, 'how much more black could this be?' and the answer is none. None more black."
Gotta go to a meeting ...
NO DROPS!
SHUT UP and CATCH IT!
YOU CAN'T MAKE THE CLUB IN THE TUB!
GET CHIZZY WITH IT!
I FREAKIN' HATE UAT!
WAR EAGLE!
that just about covers it.
that jet really believes in covering a lot of space with his posts
i need a nap. all this posting with trying to/not really work is wearing me out. need a red bull or 2 for the big campfire.
Someone was fired for all caps and sued the company and won.
Just sayin'
me too, Scottie
I need a nap or some sort of stimulant to make it through the rest of this afternoon.
Oh Stimulant.. sorry Mon, I almost thought you meant something else.
Hey everyone! Eary chatroll has been firewalled by big brother. Hope to catch you all tonight
2 Days left! 2 Days left!
How long till kickoff?
2 DAYS
4 HOURS
34 MINUTES....
KICKOFF. :)
Thanks coach!
auburnsports.com has a big ticker on their front page. i stole it.
We killed it Scottie
killed what?
I have a countdown clock on my iGoggle. It's hypnotizing me.
It also sort of freaks me out when you think about how quickly your life is slipping away. I need stimulants.
OK just watched the coaches vid on AL.com..
Grimes had on a colorado shirt... somebody please get that man to burn the gold and get the orange and blue....
i shot the sheriff. but i did not shoot the deputy.
There she goes with those stimulants again.
DOMAG
Monica,
How much are the wreaths? I loved them and my mother-in-law who lives in Auburn would love to have one for the season.
It's funny THT, a 5 minute break on the blog means its stopped in my mind now. Talk a bout paradigm shift
I have a Colorado football shirt, but I can't get in it. Bought it in Boulder in 1975. BRIGHT GOLD, turned all my underwear pastel yellow the first time I washed it.
Now I know to separate that sort of stuff.
well, I know I should separate that stuff, but sometimes I just don't care what color something comes out of the laundry.
Well, THT, we know what shuts down a blog. Talking about doing laundry! Although mine is all finished, packed and ready to go to AUBURN!
Everyone must be getting geared up for the upcoming chatroll/campfire thingy. Or at lunch, or getting stimulus.
Just got home from work and I have a Honey Do List to work on before I go to the gym. I just wanted to say that wherever your travels take you this weekend be safe, have a great time and WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!
Monica, you have mail.
i've got a basket of laundry waiting to be thrown in the wash when i get home.
ok, off work at 5, then:
1. grocery store
2. give kids baths/medicine
3. laundry in washer
4. fire up grill
5. get in trouble for any unfinished home repairs i refuse to do on the start of the SEC season
6. cook hotdogs/brats
7. pop open cold beverage for SEC kick-off 2009
8. watch USC/NC State, then Oregon/BSU
9. crawl into bed around 1am ET
OK, you guys talking about laundry is making the HABOTN and little less of an escape. Can we get back to football...or Jason and Eggs?
4 HRS & 3 MINUTES TO SEC FOOTBALL IN GLORIOUS ESPN HIGH-DEFINITION.
Thanks, Scottie!
Do What We Do
From what I understand, the new Auburn reality TV thing starts tomorrow, but it is on CSS, which I don't have. Someone needs to cover that and give us updates. By any chance, are they going to be able to vote people off?
Ahhhhhh!!! Finebaum is on ESPN!!! My biggest fears are realized!!!
Finebaum refers to RRod as dead man walking. That settles it. RRod will be around for a while.
Whew, Fbaum scared me in HD, he looks like a bag of mashed up a--holes
a slap fight has broke out on outside the lines
I forgot about one of the negatives of football season. For the next 3 months we will hear Tim Tebow mentioned around 100 times per day.
I am with you, SteveFC.
I have Tebow-lash.
"Whew, Fbaum scared me in HD, he looks like a bag of mashed up a--holes"
hilarious
OH! I forgot:
GO HOKIES!!!!!!
and if D. Miller shows up tonight, please ask him to check his gmail account.
CAMPFIRE!
Except for that whole paycheck, insurance, and suitable living thing ... I hate big brother.
2.0 is alive and well in florence. no internet yet, though. She wanted to tell all the Hotties hello.
Great news THT. What a wonderful experience for her.
Hey to 2.0 from the lonely blog that can't go watch the campfire.
You can't even campfire from here, My Tommy?
Hello to 2.0!!! We miss you.
I'm here too. 'Ello 2.0
Cincy - I've emailed asking the cost of the Auburn wreaths and I'll let you know when I hear back.
I just had a meal with the Pigeon Forge Tigers football team.
And I am surrounded by UT fans.
Odds of FSJ wearing Crimson: 100%
likin this new icon, feels good
Normally I would not advocate the wearing of crimson, but that was pretty funny.
we need photos!
is Norm around?
thanks for all your well wishes for 2.0. I will certainly pass them along. Now back to laundry for just a bit more.
what do you need photos of, mon?
How does we get to the campfire?
Faker wearing his burgundy around those poor TN fans.
Nope Monica, the man won't let me do anything fun like the chatroll/campfire thing. Right now I have a big Access Denied on my HABOTN front page where the campfire has started. Evidently it's not business appropriate.
And if I have to turn this page on my own with the help of the few that are still here, byyyy gumm I'm gonna
One new page coming right up
