Tony Barbee speaks
Hey everyone. It's been a while, but I promise that I've been working.
GannettWorldCup.com has been rollin' along with the little soccer tournament in Africa. Thanks to E-Bro, Eddie, Peter, Scott Chocolate, ehyou and Jimmy for hanging out over there.
So what do we have here today?
Your new men's basketball coach, Tony Barbee, participated in the SEC's summer teleconference. We didn't learn a lot per se, but he spoke. And we listened.

- On the team's situation heading into Barbee's first season:
``We're starting over having lost 80 percent of our scoring and 80 percent of our rebounding. The majority of our team being either freshmen or sophomores and only two returning juniors and only really one of those played in Frankie Sullivan. We're starting over, but it's exciting to start over in that way because you get the chance to mold a younger group of players who haven't been set in their ways having gone through a system for several years. It's going to be kind of like molding clay. Every day is going to bring a different challenge especially with Frankie Sullivan, an experienced guard. I think he is a solid guard in this league. Beyond that, we don't have much experience left. It's starting over." - On Luke Cothran, the power forward signee who is expected to be very good:
``I think Luke brings us a different level of talent to this program than this program has seen in quite some time. He's one of those 6-foot-8 or 6-foot-9 hybrid forwards that can score from different angles from the perimeter and obviously the 3-point line. He's great around the basket because he's got great feet for a big man. He's got a knack for rebounding the ball, so there's no question he'll bring a lot to the team as a freshman." - On anything he's learned so far in terms of evaluating current players:
``Anytime you take over a new position, you go through a pretty long evaluation process and we're still in that phase with the limited amount of access that I've had to my returning players and to the incoming recruits. Anytime a new coach takes over, there's always transition. You've got to make sure it's a fit both ways, for the player and for myself and my staff and for my system and how we are going to do things. I'm pretty pleased with how the current team is shaping up with the returners from last year's team and with the signees that we were able to put together here in the late spring signing period." - On Frankie Sullivan:
``Frankie is a kid that I have known for a long time. He used to come to our camps when I was at Memphis as an assistant there, so I've known him for a long time. He's one of those guys that you want your entire team to play like, with reckless abandon. He's not going to back down no matter who he plays against. That's what Frankie brings to the court and, hopefully, he's going to step up in a leadership role now. He's one of the veterans that we have on this team. Frankie brings you a guy who can put points on the board. With the type of offense I'd like to run here depending on the personnel we have based around the dribble-drive and attacking the paint, whether it's on the drive or the post-up, I think Frankie will be able to be very productive in this offense."

Tubs was right, though. As bad as it may sound, he has a point, and maybe it will help change things. What Texas just did to the conference was bully work and criminal.

Lame.

Lame.
Lame?
^
Lame
gggrrrrr.
Pete...You think you're too cool for school, but I got a news flash for you Walter Cronkite.
You aren't.
"....and that's the way it was."
wait, what?
Well, sometimes just because something is the truth doesn't make it the right thing to say. If a lady ask you do these genes make my butt look fat, it is always wrong to say, no, it is the big butt that is doing it.
Listen, E-bro. I respect your opinion and all, but I'm pretty sure I know who is too cool for school and who is not...
doing inventory has fried my brain.
i need coffee!
Cheerwine stuffed Krispy Kreme??? Why?
"We don't need your education...."
"We don't need your thought control."
OMG! i need to drive to NC!
sweet!
I felt like, "This guy's really hurting me." And it hurt.
You know who's not lame? Me. That's who.
Ninny fight!
you're right Norm, you're not lame.
you're an idiot.
An anagram for "Norm" is "moron," if you add an "O."
i've been looking up item numbers all day doing inventory here at work. the latest item started with 'BBA'.
all i can think about now is:
Beat
Bama's
Ass
HATE. it never sleeps.
M-O-R-O-N, M-O-R-O-N, M-O-R-O-N, and Norm-o was his name-o
PF ...
That's absolutely brilliant.
I thought Seanzie was the resident idiot.
For the sake of anagrams and Jet's opinion based on long term acquaintance ...Norm is now the resident moron.
OMS - I'm IN North Carolina. Tomorrow can't get here quick enough!!!! And in late August, we'll have our very own KK on Franklin Street!!!
this is by far the HATIN'-est blog on the net fo shizzle.
so jealous right now THT. i love me some fudge-iced cream filled KK's. my fav.
From the previous page...Bartender, pass me whatever WEEMAN is having.
Also...I picked up the new iPhone yesterday. Not bad at all.
mine too, Scottie, B.
me too, FSJ.
FSJ ...I'm contemplating changing to the new Iphone4. I don't need most of the new bells and whistles, but if the battery life and antenna range are increased as advertised, it'll be worth it. I'm waiting for reports to see if those items are really improved.
Also.. SIAP...Tiger Woods' soon to be ex is gonna get $750 M according to reports and full custody of the kids.
WOW.
Hoopie,
My battery life has been pretty good so far. I haven't really given it a good workout yet though.
FSJ, you mean you'd be willing to drink something that would lead to an AU national championship? Your orange and blue is showing again!
I heard you have to tickle your armpit and make monkey noises to make sure the new iphone gets reception. What'll those infallible geniuses at Apple think of next! How innovative!
i can make and receive calls at home with the iPhone. I couldn't do that with my verizon phone
of course, the people on the other end can't figure out who the laughing monkey is.
oops, those are LGGB's favs, ScottieB. My favs are the custard filled chocolate iced KKs
I bet Tiger gets a pre-nup next time.
Tiger's actions were so despicable and multiple that many spouses would never be able to forgive him. He did seem to go to extremes to correct his issues. Seems that she didn't wait around very long to see if she really "loved" him after he was rehabilitated.
There is a golddigger M-O wherein the marriage energy is purposely, slowly sqelched by the golddigger until the other party looks for fun elsewhere. The almost inevitable mistake opens the door for large settlements. Tiger did a lot of stuff before he was ever "caught". How could she not have known earlier? The more she lets him hang himself, the larger the settlement.
I'm not sayin' ....I'm just sayin'
Professional athletes travel a ton. That makes cheating really easy to do without getting caught.
Michael,
How would you know? You been traveling lately?
No, luckily not. I imagine if I did travel, though, I would have to stave off the seductresses with a stick since I am richer, athleticer, and famouser than Tiger Woods.
It's a walk off.
Hoop ...
Didn't matter if Tiger had one double bogey on the card or 17. His goose was cooked, and he was going to be turned in to Swedish meatballs.
Congrats to Jamie Moyer for setting the MLB record for most homers allowed in a career with 506.
I would officially like to volunteer myself to marry Tiger Woods.
I have a question I need a beat hack to pose to Tuberville.
Coach Tuberville, you caused a stir with your comments about the fate of the Big 12. Could you let us in on things you considered too controversial to say prior to making this comment?
Hmm...I've been called many, many derogatory things in my time but I honestly can't recall being called a 'moron'. Considering the crowd here - I'll take that.
SFC - after your 6:30 post, my mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Put a cork in it, Zane!
BULL HONKEY!
Be careful Norm. Your mind may just explode!
I am getting desperate for football substance. I go so desperate I went to the bleacher report and read an article about Auburn running backs. To avoid causing any more brain damage I will just provide a synopsis.
Fannin, Senior, High Profile Recruit, Hard Nosed, Looking for break out season.
McCalleb, Fast, High Profile Recruit, Looking for break out season.
Dyer, Fast, Highest Profile Recruit, Newbie, Looking for break out season.
Stallworth, Not a RB but could be, Fast, High Profile Recruit, Newbie, Looking for break out season.
Where's Eric Smith? Have no idea.
This substance brought to you by the sunshine pumpers.
Jair Jurrjens looked great tonite in his first start back. He even singled in a run. Braves up 3-1 bottom 7th.
Bases loaded with Braves. New hurler coming.
Eddie's at the game with the family.
I have a problem with how divorces work. I think Tiger's wife should get enough to live comfortably and the kids should be set for life. There is not doubt about that, but $750mil? That is ridiculous. She didn't have any part in building his career. Just because you marry someone rich and then do something stupid doesn't mean you should never have to lift a finger ever again.
I just watched last night's "Deadliest Catch". Great episode. This season is sure to win several awards.
Agreed CHB. it's nuts.
Braves up 4-1 headed to th 9th.
CHB - if she spends wisely (shops at Costco, cuts coupons, etc.), saves and invests, she might be able to do alright with $750M.
I am here to tell ya that getting old is hell!!!!! I know that makes absolutely no sense but some of you know what I mean!
No doubt that Tiger would be a cooked Swedish Meatball once he did a deed. Due to the actions and timing of the cook, I'm wondering if the recipe was planned the day of the nuptials.
Sumpthin' smells and it ain't Swedish Meatballs.
I am traumatized! I am beginning an exercise boot camp on Monday and had to go tonight to subject myself to the "bod pod". A devious little machine you climb into so it can measure your body fat.
My body fat is so high I will probably die of a heart attack the first day of boot camp. I am the oldest by far in this class of 15. It is at 5:30 am on MWF for 4 weeks. She told me if I can make it through the first week, I will be successful. Very encouraging "if" I can make it through the first week. She has thrown down the gauntlet!
missinit,
I know EXACTLY what you mean.
Missinit ...I withya ...the younger I try to act, the faster I get older ...and now it really hurts.
If I make a ton of money and get someone involved in a certain quality of life, then act like a complete and utter fool, I'm not going to be surprised if a sizable chunk disappears.
CincyT ..you are a brave soul. We're proud of you. Good luck.
You wanna feel old? Try staring at 46 with a 3 1/2 y/o boy running you ragged 24x7. I expect my 18 y/o daughter to have a fine life and I'll leave her alone since she was so easy to raise. I expect F4* to treat me well when he does whatever it is he does. I intend to be a great burden on him one day.
In my mind I still feel 21, but my body says, hell no you don't!!!!
Norm, to the home with you!
Does Urban Meyer sign a new contract every year?
Norm,
I bet you anything that F4* will keep you younger longer. My best friend started her family at 41 and had her second at 43. She is so much more in tune than I am. Her girls have kept her sharp and on her toes.....she has to, just to keep up with them.
You go Norm!
PF,
I agree with you. We are by no means ANYWHERE NEAR the income level of Tiger, but I gave up a very successful career to stay home and raise our children. I don't regret it for a moment, but if something should happen to Mr. Cincy and me (which seems an impossibility to me!) I would have a very hard time supporting myself in the manner to which I have become accustomed. I think she probably gave up quite a bit as a model to have children. I don't see anything wrong with her being supported in the lavish lifestyle he provided for her.
We're #1. We're #1.
Auburn has lost 27 fumbles over 2 years, tops in the SEC.
PF,
Quit bragging.
That is pretty incredible, PF. In 1983 I think we had about 13 turnovers the entire season, INTs + fumbles.
Actually, I think Mrs Tiger didn't get enough. He cheated repeatedly. She should get one testicle and half of each one of his green jackets to boot.
MrsTHT thinks Elin Woods is entitled to 95% of all he's got... and all he earns in the future.
Sweet AU dreams, Hotties!!!
Lots of uatHATE-filled sleep, the most restful kind :-)
KEEP HATE ALIVE, even when unconscious.
So I am running lights and sirens to a call where a guy has run his car into a swamp and the car is sinking and he says he is stuck inside. The car is making funny noises, but I can't stop for the obvious reasons.
We get to the call, get the guy out, come back to the car and.... its dead...kaput... done.
So now I'm waiting on the side of the road(next to a swamp) for a tow. I am getting ate up.
Not what I was hoping to be doing right now.
Good night, wake.
Good morning all other Hotties!
Rise and shine; it's 65 days til kickoff!!
GO TIGERS!!!
WARRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Morning, Hotties. 65 days is beginning to sound bearable. Life seems to be flying by at breakneck speed, so it should be here before we know it.
Buenas Dias.
Good morning everyone.
For all the Braves fans out there, how do they continue to win despite leaving literally thousands of people on base?
And thousands of people outside of the stands.
RK its all about quantity. By getting thousands and thousands on base, you eventually get a hundred or so forced in here and there.
Morning Hot ones.
Feng says he's ready for Auburn football to start too, and is having a hard time thinking about waiting another 65 days
RK- They sure do leave a lot stranded. I think Escobar left almost 6-7 guys just by himself last night.
The attendance at last nights game didn't even look to be half way full.
The Braves are playing fairly well though, all things considered.
Morning Hotties!
Cincy, I've thought about boot camp but haven't been able to get past that point. Good luck to you.
I'm with THT's wife on the Elin Woods situation.
It's July!!! Won't be long until practice starts up. Can I get an Amen and Allelulia?
This is my Friday and then I get to start a nice 4-day weekend.
Attendance was bad last week, because almost everyone (like me) went to the Strasberg game on Monday. So anyone planning on going to a game this week, picked the same one.
Eddie,
As far as Escobar goes, I'd have Infante playing every day.
Probably so RK. There was a pretty good attendance at last Friday's game when I went.
FYI- I'm ready for Lebron to pick his team so that I don't have to listen to it anymore. The fuss over this is just crazy and has been non-stop for awhile now.
Sister Kathy ...
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness. It'll be here soon ... be of good cheer.
Weekend game attendance is always pretty good.
Monday - Thursday can get bad depending on the opponent.
I hope August takes it's time getting here. I do enjoy Summer and I'm no hurry to fast forward to football season. Probably the only one here like that.
I hope that August isn't as hot as I'm afraid it's going to be since June was August-like in the heat.
World Cup still going on. Of course I'm not ready for August yet.
I am ready for the beach in July, though. Man...so ready.
My dry cleaner is on vacation from today until the 8th. Must be nice. Had to use another cleaner.
Have a buddy that played ball with Infante in Venezuela. We were wondering around the field during batting practice at a Marlins game in 2008 when the Braves were in town, and they saw each other. It was pretty funny, because they'd apparently lost touch in the 90s when they both moved to the US and both were startled to see one another.
that's pretty cool PF.
morning hotties. HAPPY #65 MONREKO CRITTENDEN DAY!
Cincy, we run the BOOTCAMP program every summer at the gym. the peeps there love it. you can do it sis! good luck!
and Escobar leaves ka-zillions of men on base. at least this year. i think his BA dropped from like .350 to .250 with men on base from '09 to '10. not so good.
I'm telling you if I were Bobby Cox, Escobar would be sitting on the bench. I think he has awesome talent and no heart for the game. Although he did have a great play last night.
i agree Cincy. Chipper got in his face to encourage him the other nite after a good play but it seems he may need a little reality check.
Tubby was on Rivals radio this a.m. talking about recruiting and bragged about his ability to find the "hidden gems", the ones that nobody is talking about. He neglected to mention that whole thing about actually finding gems that would be eligible to play, but he sure can find the gems alright.
Escobar just needs to spend a few games on the bench IMO. He has talent, but it's not clicking right now, IMO.
Baldy- I think that was from his Monday interview with Bill King. He can find gems...but he finds as many duds also.
Escobar seems unable to put the bad plays he makes behind him. He made a bad play or two earlier the other night, and Chipper was obviously trying to address that with his supportive shove, trying to get Escobar to shake it off, but as you saw, the guy didn't respond to Chipper at all. He better develop that ability quickly as they need him and moping about a bad play won't help.
When Chipper Jones has to force a younger player to look him in the eyes when he's talking to him, then there is a problem.
Didn't realize the interview was from Monday. (It was indeed with Bill King.) I hope (or more aptly, Tubby better hope) that he does a better job recruiting (and actually getting them on campus) for them than he did in the last few years with AU.
i mope around at work too. however, unlike Escobar i don't make crazy-ass money and have millions of people looking at me every nite. hope he can straighten it up soon. i do like him as a player.
If his moping is this obvious to us yahoos, SURELY the coaches are going to address it. The best players in the world have no conscience about the past play because they know it can impact their future play if they're worried about screwing up again. Mistakes can be wonderful learning tools. Unless your BP. Then, not so much.
Beautiful day out today. Nice breeze and low humidity. One of those rare summer days where some outdoor activities (tennis) may be in order.
SOCCER
Spoiler alert!!!!
Ghana 2
USA 1
In the Gump, it's thicker than Norm's charm working the ladies -- circa 1985.
Baldy,
Escobar has driven Bobby Cox crazy for a couple of years now. He benched him for a couple of games last year for a botched hit & run that he didn't even look for the signal on.
I assume they don't have any options in the minors that they could possibly go to for a few games to maybe let him sit and ponder for a little while and get his head on straight. Regardless, he's underperforming, but the Braves are still winning. It would likely be getting more attention if they weren't winning.
I assume we're closer to football season now than we were earlier this morning.
Baseball talk... yawn ;-)
Let's talk about something new, like maybe the BC coaching situation and how it pertains to all prior former AU HCs and OCs. (of course, without violating HABOTN policy by mentioning any of those former coaches by name).
Michael, you go first.
Just watched youtube about a 3 year old girl named Michelle who is from Louisiana one of the things she says is "I can play with my pet rabbit in the morning and eat him for supper". Now thee is a life's lesson.
How about Goats?
Looking at Chris Low's current blog post on SEC National Championships (in all sports recognized by the SEC), it's interesting how Arkansas, who has been part of the league less than 20 years, leads the count (they love their track and field there), and leads it rather handily.
I guess since the SEC doesn't officially have equestrian, they don't recognize our national championship in that. You know what else they don't recognize? Five of Alabama's 13 mythical championships. We're ahead of them in the current table. Huzzah!!
Damon Evans, UGA AD Charged with DUI
I hate it for the man, seems like a good guy.
E-Bro, the equestrian thing is also because the list only includes men's sports.
I love that the SEC only recogizes eight of UAT's championships!
Nice link Bro....really enjoyed that.
Arky has 12, not 30.
They listed a bunch of them in duplicate or triplicate.
I mean, track is track.
Or maybe we should credit AU with X swimming championships and Y diving championships?
Live blog from
The King ... Phred, Norm, WTC, J-Z. Jet in attendance.
J-Z? Not ringing a bell.
you remember, the guy who liked the spew popcorn at unsuspecting hotties?
Since there's no football to discuss, I'll belabor a previous point.
Elin Woods was a grocery store cashier in Sweden that had a couple of obscure mag photos printed. Her "modeling" career was so weak that she became Jesper Parnevik's nanny and moved to America. Once in Orlando, many single golfers (including Tiger) asked to meet her. For the first year she reportedly rejected all offers because she didn't want to appear to be a golddigger. At 22 years old She finally relented and agreed to meet Tiger.
The only thing Elin gave up ....was the opportunity to meet-marry golfers other than Tiger.
The last straw for her was reportedly the commercial during the Masters with Tiger's Dad speaking. ....say what? That is a contrived reason to be mad. I started out on her side in this thing. Based on her actions, I think that there is as much likelihood that she used a golddigger M-O as not. Until folks start writing books, we'll never know the real deal. My guess is that for $750m, she won't be allowed to write a book. Nike/Tiger don't need the distraction whether such book were true or not.
With $750 mil, she doesn't need to write a book. But goldigger or not, Tiger is still the bad guy in all this. wasn't just his wife he betrayed, but his children.
scottie...you must be thinking of Sensi. Or maybe I am.
Eddie ....UGA fans would much rather have Michael Adams get a DUI. Will the PC police demand his head? He didn't take the breathalizer, which will open the door for his attorney to manipulate the issue and work out a loophole. In Ga. they do stuff like change of venue and then claim out of jurisdiction ...no kidding.
Jhag is still proud of Tiger.
Hoopie- I agree completely with the Adams statement. Heard the same from a friend who is a UGA Fan.
Interesting thing here...IF Evans gets convicted, I think it will be very tough for him to keep his job. IF Evans was to lose his job, and Adams put "His" guy in place, how solid would Richt's footing be?
Richt could be hurt by this DUI IMO if those things happen IMO.
I started my first post saying Tiger did some despicable stuff and clearly his kids will suffer and his kids will hear that Tiger is to blame. Was Tiger manipulated into his actions? Her actions render her a suspect to some degree.
This M-O is more common than folks realize. Since athletes are now taught to watch out for it, has the M-O gotten more sophisticated?
Hoopie, breathalizer or not, his mug shot says WAAAASSSSTTTEED. Whatever happens in court is unrelated to the PR mess from something like that.
I wonder what the passenger got arrested for.
I see Evans taking a leave of absence, Vince stepping in temporarily, and Evans coming back from an extended rehab ready to get back to work.
It is never good for a public figure to get arrested for DUI or anything else. But many have and servived. All depends on how solid his footing is with the powers to be.
Bama moved the Georgia State game...they can shut up the whining now.
Peter- Completely agree about the mug shot and wondering about the passenger myself.
As far Dooley stepping in on interim basis, it would be the best thing IMO, but Adams hates Dooley and will not let that happen IMO.
Adams also like his job.
digger- I think you can survive in a lot of positions, but I think it is really tough to survive when you are the leader of all athletic programs or the HC of a major athletic team. Evans has a chance of survival, but I say it's slim. The athletic department preaches to students to avoid this type of behavior and it's hard for the head man to be guilty of the same such behavior.
Adams was a dirtbag whe Ga. hired him and he hasn't changed with time.
Peter- Dawg fans wanted Adams gone when he forced Dooley to retire. Adams won that one and he will when the next one. The Board of Regents is not the same power structure that the Alabama Universities have. The academic success at UGA ensures Adams that he is pretty much safe in his job.
Eddie I agree it is tough but if he is "in" with the right people they will find a way.
If a picture paints a thousand words, then that mug shot is saying "I am one drunk dude" 200 times.
I'm glad that Bama felt it needed to move the GA State game to give them 2 extra days to prepare for Auburn. I mean, Bama could play all it's walkon's and beat Ga State. It's a sad state of affairs that bama is even playing them in the first place. This is GT / Cumberland all over again.
...Especially in a place like Athens, where drunk players is an even bigger problem than most colleges (not sure if there are more because of the bars, or just a police force that hates them, but it does seem like a bigger problem there). It's hard enough without the coach's boss setting a bad example.
Wasn't really an issue until Star Jackson transferred.
I have no sympathy for Tiger. Unless there was accidental sex involved, he cannot justify what he did and it is now time for him to take it up the wazoo.
Jet- It's always tough losing a Star.
I can't really criticize Bama for playing Georgia State when we play Arkansas State. Yea, Arkansas State is better, but they are still in the same patsy list.
Eddie,
I'm well aware of UGA fans feeling of Adams. I also know that he is as crooked as they come, and will be eventually brought down. It's just a matter of time...
In the Woods case I wonder if their are any lawyers getting rich.
Surely not all this money is going to the wife and children.
There is a law of nature that says the lawyers always get rich. I am sure Mrs. Tiger will get most of the money, but the lawyer won't exactly be on food stamps either.
The law of nature may not state it but they get a big chunck.
Peter- Agree completely. He's walking on some thin ice and all his moves need to be golden. It's been this way for several years now.
Steve- Arkansas State and Ga State aren't even close in comparisons. What is Ga State's past record? That should tell you why this is such a pathetic game opponent for any Major Div 1A school to play.
Actually, divorce lawyers in both Florida and California (not sure where this ended up getting filed) cannot benefit from larger settlements like PI lawyers do. They can only charge their standard rate, which cannot be adjusted on a per case basis. The lawyers will do well, because they'll bill a ton of hours and probably have an outrageous hourly rate, but it will only be a small fraction of a single percentage point compared to the settlement.
I love to see people that get upset over Tiger's actions, whereas it actually affects the way they feel like they've known the man.
I think Richt is going to be fine for a while at Georgia. The defensive changes they made should buy him some time.
I am looking forward to seeing what happens with Miles this season. Their offense was bad last year. That, coupled with some bonehead calls, could end up being the end of him.
What league will GSU be competing in in 2011. They're not even playing a complete schedule in 2010, right?
Yea, Arkansas State has upset some people, like Texas A&M I believe, but they are a big patsy. No, not as big of a patsy as Georgia State, but a patsy none the less.
I wish we would stop scheduling games like this. No good comes from it, other than financial, and these are career killer games for coaches if the team loses.
Actually, the saddest part of playing Arkansas State is that there are chumps like me willing to pay to see it.
A long time ago I remember us playing Southwest Louisiana. We were up by about 42 points. I found myself pulling for Southwest. What a strange feeling that was.
So, Georgia State starts with the NAIA(Shorter College) and ends with the reigning Div-Ia National Champion, with a couple of DIV II, Div-IA, and such thrown in? That's interesting.
Georgia State plays 11 games. Not sure of the conference.
Steve, if you made your argument using UTC instead of Ark State, it might help a little.
That should be I-AA...at any rate, Arkansas State is NOTHING like Georgia State. The only thing GSU has going for it is the Atlanta media and Bill Curry.
Peter- I was thinking the same thing. They are all over the place on their schedule. I don't see a conference at this point. Bama is their big pay day. I'm wondering what the attendance will average at the Dome for their home games? I'm guessing 7,000.
Does Ga State have a stadium on campus?
Arkansas State had Iowa on the ropes last year and is at least Div 1. GA State is playing its first year of football. Not even close in comparison.
UTC is just as bad. Arkansas State will be terrible. They lost their play makers on offense and most of their offensive line if I remember correctly.
I put teams like Arkansas State, UTC, and Georgia State all in the same barrel. They are all teams that, if you lost to them, would likely seriously affect the head coaches future.
Guessing GSU will play in the same conference as the rest of their sports (I-AA CAA) after this year...I'm only seeing 10 games on their schedule. Assuming they are taking the same approach as USA with a soft schedule year one.
GSU will play in the Ga Dome..."On campus" is really just a collection of buildings in downtown Atlanta, so they'll never have that. They have an athletics facility of sorts out 285 south of the city.
Georgia State Schedule:
Shorter
Lambuth
Jacksonville State
Campbell
Morehead
Savannah State
North Carolina Central
Old Dominion
South Alabama
Lamar
Alabama
Doesn't GSU have a decent Basketball Arena?
Oh, they added another game than the one I was looking at.
There are teams out there that we can play that won't require a return trip, like MTSU or Louisiana Tech. They have a much better track record than Arkansas State, even though Arkansas State has had a few good games the last couple of years. Heck, schedule Troy. They wouldn't require a return trip and it would have a lot of fan interest.
It appears Georgia State's strongest opponent after the Cousin Humpers is Jacksonville State.
Eddie, yes. It's okay. Big capacity, but kinda crappy old gym feel to it.
Except for Phil Mickelson, I don't root for or against any golfer. I used to golf lefty and shared a chance meeting for an hour or so with Phil one day in Az on a practice area. It helped my short game.
My sudden Tiger-Elin obsession is more of a sports life-social-legal trends analysis.
The GSU / SA should be a good game.
MTSU > Arkansas State? Maybe. Not enough to say so, though. They're in the same conference.
Scheduling Arkansas State and losing to them can get the head coach fired.
Scheduling Troy and losing to them gets the head coach AND the athletic director fired.
Seriously Steve, did some Ark State frat boys drag you out and beat you up once or something?
I'm guessing that Bill Curry cashed in the miniscule amount of chips he may have had at Bama to get them to play that game.
Hoopie- I apologize, wasn't directing it at you. My boss gets physically upset discussing Tiger. I have trouble understanding why someone can get so upset about something like that. He was always looking for a reason to truly hate the man, and he finally had it.

Commentator on Darts tourney on FSN:
"BEAUTIFUL! MAGICAL DARTS!"
Hoopie- You mean cashed in his brick?
You know you are on your way when you get to commentate a Darts Tourney. Next up...bowling.
I wish we would play Troy and UAB. I know it's a lose-lose, but I think the big state schools should throw the other in state schools a bone. LSU doesn't back down from La. Tech, Tulana, etc.
UT plays Memphis (okay, it probably helps their recruiting there). Georgia will play Georgia Southern from time to time.
"BEAUTIFUL! MAGICAL DARTS!"
lmao.
Tulana...not to be confused with Tulane.
Is Blogger bonkers right now? or did i pick up a virus?
Eddie ..no prob, I didn't think that was necessarily directed at me. Your boss must be a member of the Atlanta Athletic Club. Most of those old coots/golf snobs hate anything other than Bobby Jones or JACK. They really hate Tiger, but won't just come out and say exactly why and get mad if you ask them why. It all started with Fuzzy tho.
I don't want to play UAB, because UAT will syphon off the funds of that game and use if for their program.
Hoopie- He's not a member of AAC, but you nailed the Fuzzy ordeal.
I agree that it would be nice if Auburn would play Troy or UAB in football.
I would rather play Troy than Chattanooga.
I don't mind Chattanooga, but that's because it's my two alma mater's going head to head.
RK- Will it be more competitive than the 95 meeting?
BTW ..."cashed in his brick" ..thats rich.
Gotta go drive 6-7 hours to Hattiesburg, Ms. and take care of the aging in-laws over the 4th. They are both in their 80's and won't move from their maintenance nightmare, large abode on a lake. Paw-in-law knows who we are, but insists on having the same conversation repeatedly. Mother-in-law is good, just getting feeble.
Have a good 4th Hotties.
Eddie,
How could it not be? However, it depends if we can get Eric Hines-Tucker to come back and play.
Flip it
Flip it GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
