hmmmmmm
I like it.
hype springs eternal
Yes...there is indeed a thing called the huddle!!!!!! Do you really think Tubs won't have a quick trigger to pull Burns if he is not performing badly or throws a pic?
I'm tired of talk, I'm ready to see it on the field. I am glad we're living with one QB going forward. I don't care who it is, pick one and stick with it.
fyi ... I added a third tier of the HABOTN Hall of Fame.
We're now acknowledging some of our outstanding rookies. After all, superstars like Phred and AUnMobile (The Captain of Capitalization) once were eager whippersnappers ...
Awesome. This is a superior freshman class of newbies!!!
True Blood coming on HBO right now. That show is great. Best new show of the year so far.
I liked that the stuck with Todd for a while, but it is obvious that his arm was getting worse. It is also very apparent that Todd will not be back in until his arm improves. That makes sense.
I like the idea of Kodi knowing he is the starter, but I do want to see us develop a backup QB. It is something that Auburn has always failed to do and it results in rebuilding years like this. I don't see Todd in the picture again anytime soon. Caudle makes the most sense, but there has to be a backup with some experience.
I am trying to avoid "homerisms", but I actually have a pretty good feeling about things for some reason.
Question for the group: I watched a good bit of football this weekend. I can't remember seeing a single team in a huddle. If I did, I can't recall it. Did I overlook it?
Caudle will not play unless someone gets sick or blows out a knee or starts a rap career.
Period. End of story.
Starts a rap career? Hillarious.
Most teams huddle up. Georgia, Texas, LSU, South Carolina, Georgia Tech. Which teams did you not see huddle?
First of all, Kodi is a smart kid...you can see it in his eyes and hear it when he speaks. As the one who had paid his dues behind Brandon and been in there when the game was on the line, he should have been the "starter" and "finisher" from day one. What is so odd, is that Tubbs insisted in the spring that there would be a clear-cut starter come opening day. Who knows what could have been had the Todd project been scrapped in the summer or what the "always looking over his shoulder" stategy that was employed instead has done to Kodi's maturity and confidence? Only time will tell. The coaches certainly didn't do him or us any favors by making him split time with an obviously lesser physically gifted QB. He may never pan out, but I for one would have liked for him to have been given a better shot early on at the job he did more to earn.
I've heard Chris Todd can nail every note on N.W.A.'s "Automobile."
I'm a homer too. Perhaps this comes from a place of peace on Sunday night, unlike the last 2 weeks- -but I'm rooting for these kids. They seem optimistic and eager to do well. So what if they are being coached by folks that can't get out of their way.
Just to be totally off topic, Texas looks like the best team in college football. I can't remember a team simply destroying two other top ten teams in back to back weeks.
Then I remember the last two seasons and the best team in the world then, Ohio State. I am wondering if anyone in the SEC can take down Texas. Bama has looked like they could beat anyone at times, but they have also looked like they could loose to anyone at times.
For now, Texas looks to be at an entirely different level than any other team I have seen play. Anyone wanna fight about it?
Watch this video-

Now, what are we missing/ #27? And also the old #1.
Kris,
I wholeheartedly agree with you. Burns may not ultimately be the answer, but it sure would be nice to be sitting here in the off week knowing that for a fact, instead of using the rest of the season to determine it.
Chris Todd is MJG's cousin.
This video gives me hope, but i wont believe anything until i see it Thursday night.
I'm with you VRGA. Bring on some old school Toby Keith - A Little Less Talk, and A Lot More Action.
I guess I just didn't notice. I wasn't really looking for it. Just when it was mentioned earlier, it struck me that I didn't notice it.
This is a stupid post. Sorry.
Georgia could take down Texas. Muschamp has no idea how to stop Georgia. In all seriousness, I do believe that Florida could play with Texas and take them down.
Steve
I will not fight you. Seems like every "good" team this year followed up a big win with a stinker. USC after Ohio State, UAT should have lost to Tulane and KU after beating Clemson and UGA. there are probably other examples. UT-A appears to be good enough that they haven't suffered let downs, despite the stage. This will only make Muschamp's star burn brighter, though.
eddie, agreed
If Todd hadn't been the starter, I think we would have lost at least two more games. Against Arkansas he was terrible. Against Vandy, he wasn't much better. Early on, he looked pretty good, although with a weak arm. The problems in the early games wasn't the QB, it was primarily penalties. Ziemba could go to the bathroom without getting flagged for 5 yards,
No that UF figured out how to have a running game with all those track stars. LSU's offense is a grease fire, but their D is pretty solid- -and UF made them look bad.
I'm unfortunately starting to put all my rooting into UF humiliating UAT in Atlanta, as it appears that will be the matchup.
Can we remove Todd from discussions?
Yes. Please do.
I didn't notice many penalties (certainly not offensive) against Arky. Did I miss something? Maybe we at least got that corrected.
Steve- Our big problem is that we didn't name a starter earlier in Fall camp and get that guy all the reps, whoever it was going to be. They needed the reps and the confidence. Instead, we have had 2 QB's looking over their shoulder every game.
In terms of Burns, I think we have seen why he wasn't the starter earlier in the season. You can see the results of the last two games. This isn't to say he doesn't have a lot of potential. I think the coaches were trying to bring him along slowly. We made the mistake with Jason Campbell of throwing him in too early in his career and it took years for him to recover. With Burns, I think it was idiotic that we played him last year. I considered it a waist and a Borges attempt to save his job.
Jay- any names being floated on search for OC?
Saw one post (earlier thread) which mentioned that Franklin was negotiating mid season last year when Borges still was in seat. Wouldn't see any problem at all with that this year since CTT said Ensminger (nor anyone else on staff) would not be it next year.
Steve- I agree that we should not have played Burns last year. It was a wasted year for him. As for Campbell, I believe that he got a lot better from the start of 2002 till the end of 2002, and had Petrino been the OC, I bet he would have had a solid 2003
Steve- -wouldn't you consider throwing Trotter out there this year to be an attempt to save CTT's job, and also a huge waste?
wdewg, we employed a strategy against Arkansas to eliminate penalties. We just kept our offense off the field. Suddenly, the number of penalties went way down.
Actually, the number of penalties have been going down, but as the number of penalties went down, the number of mistakes by Todd went up. That is why I think he will likely be first string bench the rest of the season.
I do see hope here. The remaining coaches on offense have all worked together for a while now and I think they will come up with an offense that will be much improved. Of course, we could be much improved offensively and still be pretty bad.
Somebody needs to get fired, arrested, or beat up by Aubie - cause we have beat this horse slam to death. We have beat it, buried it, dug it up, and beat it some more.
Same thing for coaches.
Are there any other topics of interest? Anything?
My name is Phred and I approve this message.
I haven't heard any names, no.
I suggested Gus Malzahn to Tommy today. He just laughed. Who listens to sports writers?
amen vrga - how freakin much can you say about this situation - just show me something!
Eddie - True Blood - gross. I love scary stuff, haunted shows, etc. Blood dripping from mouths no so much.
Mr. Sensible -great show Saturday morning (I'll forgive you one Toby Kieth reference and that's it)
Steve - Bless your heart, but I never saw Todd look pretty good. I'm not berating the young man, I'm just saying the occasional completed pass does not "pretty good" make. IMHGO.
I like the tone in Kodi's voice. He's starting to sound like he actually believes what he's saying when he refers to himself as a leader.
wdewg, I do consider the idea of using Trotter to be a big waist, but JayG seems to feel that Caudle is a train wreck waiting to happen. If that is the case, I don't see that we have any choice. Until Todd's arm gets much better, I don't think he should be playing. He seems to get his feelings hurt any time another QB plays and doesn't come in and play well as a backup. I would sit Todd indefinitely. If Kodi were to get injured, hopefully Todd's arm would have had a chance to heal and he could step in, but from what I have seen he doesn't have the character to be a backup QB.
We probably weren't on the field long enough to amass penalties in the Arkansas game, WDEWG.
Thanks, Monica. I'm not a fan of TK, but that song popped in my head when I was reading through here.
Does the title of Notable Newcomer come with a tiara?
Caudle isn't a train wreck waiting to happen.
He's a boxcar in the trainyard that hasn't moved in two years. You can't cause wrecks when you're not moving ...
monica, look at the stats from the first few games. We were passing for around 250 yards a game, which wasn't bad. Todd did a good job of getting the ball where it needed to be, but it was admittedly in a Ken Stabler fashion. He knew enough to win us a few games. Long term, he wasn't the answer.
As for Kodi, I think it is pretty clear he isn't there yet. The last few drives against Arkansas showed a lot of promise. Hopefully that will carry over, but until the defense is concerned over his throwing ability, he is a liability.
I determine clothing and accessories for all notable newcomers.
Tiara not included.
I wouldn't do that to Eddie.
Sorry to hear that about Caudle. Hopefully, CTT actually gave him a shot and did not rely on CTF's assessments.
Steve- Funny post on less offense equals less penalties. Jay's dad can correct us, but doesn't a grade 3 separation need surgery to heal? or is it just rest?
Jay- He laughed at Gus M? I wouldn't expect him to ask you for a piece of paper to write that down, but it's not a crazy suggestion.
At this point I would even consider a more insane option at QB, such as Mario Fanin, before I would bring Trotter into the meat grinder.
Glad to hear the players (read: Burns, Bynes, et, al) are in good spirits. i think that you see a different team this week.
I expect we will have a little more grit, a little more fire and a lot more points.
Don't worry Jay, my daughter puts a tiara on me regularly. You just learn to go with the flow.
Grade 3 seps ... there isn't a true protocol on those injuries. Some docs believe surgery is the best method, other people disagree.
It's a tough injury to have as a quarterback.
on Gus ... not laughing like yeah, right, like I'd hire that idiot.
Just more like: Oh, yeah, him.
I'm with Phred...the QB and coaches suckspeak topic is inspiring me to slit my wrists.
See if anyone agrees with this comparison:
Dogfighting and personal issues aside.
Mike Vick and Burns.
Both have cannons for arms, but struggle with touch passing. Their best throws seem to be when they wind up and let loose. Both rely heavily on their feet when things break down, or sometimes if the first read is covered. Both seem to have large upside, but never (vick) haven't yet (burns) realized it.
I know. It's a stretch and borderline bad taste. Just something I've been thinking about purely in terms of on the field play.
Honestly, I will have to see Trotter playing to actually believe we will take the redshirt off of him.
I seriously think we go with Kodi exclusively for the next 5 games.
Vick's setting all sorts of records in the Virginia penal league.
wdewg- similar in ways, but Burns doesn't have near the speed nor the moves as vick. But I do see the similarities.
Burns is a good runner, not a great one.
He does throw a very nice deep ball. Arm strength never will be an issue for Burns.
The problems with this offense go further than the QB. Penalties were the biggest thing early on. Receiver play has been a constant issue. I am hoping that we see a new attitude Thursday. I do think that the conflicts in the offensive staff probably were felt by the players. I also think CTF's final speed induced practice was a coach ranting trying to show the other coaches was he wanted to see. My guess is that as a people person, CTF would make a good computer programmer. Let's see what an offensive staff that has worked together for a long time can do without a conflicting voice in the mix.
Whew- -was afraid of getting skewered on that one. But agree with you, Eddie- -Vick was much more elusive. Burns probably also looks faster just in comparison to the other AU Qb's he was around (Cox lugging refrig on his back) and Todd.
Not sure how Kodi's career will turn out. But if they need an able voice for an interview he's your guy.
Speaking of interviews, did you guys see the post game interview with Penn State's QB? Impressive. That guy sounds like he's been in the NFL for ten years. I'm going to keep watching them and maybe even hope they win it all. Can't hate the JoePa
Jay G & Co.
How about Gunter Brewer and/or Trooper Taylor, the co-coordinators at Oklahoma State?
They run the "spread" and here are the numbers so far:
Points/Yds Per Game: 46.4/501.4
QBs Pass Att/Comp/Yds: 94/134/1488
Pass Yds Per Game: 218.3
Pass TD/INT: 14/4
Rush Att/Yds/TDs: 180/1982/20
Rush Yds Per Game: 283.1

Kris and Phred:
Seriously. It is an off week. what do you expect? I guess fungus on the Offensive lineman's feet would be welcomed?
How about the surgery to Tray Blackmon?
I guess we could talk about the Cast Offense I suggested for Tray to run the other day. That at least brought out a set of play diagrams.
Seriously.
Wait, I almost forgot. We could talk about Jerraud's hammy and whether he will play against a team that does not throw the ball (my guess is no).
I am ready to see what adjustments we have made...if any. I just want to see us move forward instead of constantly stepping back. I am not sure whether I will see progress but I am at least hopeful for that now.
Reflecting on what I just wrote makes me realize how far my expectations have dropped. Sad...but true.
Powers will play and hit someone. He has been one of the best surprises, especially last year. He finds a way to get involved. He will hit someone, opponent, teammate, ref, really doesn't matter. Powers finds someone to hit.
Powers is a bad ass. That's really all I have to say. In fact, he's much better as a college player than Carlos Rogers was. Carlos was prototypical everything for an NFL DB. But Powers anwers the calls over and over and over. I remember asking the question why in the world are we going after another 5'9" DB. I really missed on that one. So did Alabama and everybody else. Alabama picked a teammate of his who never really saw the field and quit this year.
We don't need Jerraud for the 10 passes WVU will throw. Most will be in the second half when we are ahead.
I'm really wondering how the defense will come out and play. The last two games have been anything but steller.
Mark, yes the off weeks do stink. I just hope after Thurs we have something else to talk about (like freaking winning).
Muschamp - I saw Penn St QB interview. He seemed uncommonly mature and articulate to be so young. Very cool to see.

Ahheeewww. Werewolves of Auburn.
Draw blood
i was trying to think of a good comp for Kodi as well, but i do not think vick is it either. yes, vick was a great runner, kodi is only good which is a fair point by jay, but i think the reason why its not the right comp (and they nobody probably can use vick as a comp) is because vick was always the fastest guy on the field, in every game, period. it allowed him to do things others couldn't.
as far as burns go, the biggest short-term improvement he needs is touch / accuracy on the short and intermediate stuff.
Monica, you be watching some football. You watch all of it. I'll have to tip my hat to that.
Don't forget that Vick had an absolute cannon and he threw an incredibly tight spiral. He just threw it too hard most of the time.
Marcus Vick may be a better comparison to Burns.
I'm taking wait and see on Kodi, especially when I recall that he was a scout 5 star. I see some extraordinary talent and then I see a mentality that just isn't that of a QB, too. And he's a smart kid, which makes it weird. But I'm trusting that his intelligence factor gives him an opportunity to mold himself into a star.
Thanks, Muschamp. :-)
kodi's arm strength is not the issue. he, like vick, tends to throw the ball too hard as well (even if not quite the vick arm strenth)
let's hope not, marcus vick ended up a complete waste.......
Someone mentioned True Blood earlier. It is a fanstastic series. I love the unique story line and the accents of the characters. It is both scary and humorous. There is a gorgeous black lady on there who the named Terra of all things. Yea, Gone with the wind. And she has a thick southern accent that is great to listen to. She is a great character.
Sookie's brother is also hilarious in an idiot kind of way.
The black gay cook is a wonderful character.
That show is just loaded with interesting characters and I would encourage anyone to watch it.
Steve- Nail meet hammer. Just can't wait to see the next episode after tonights cliff hanger.
Free KODI!!!!
The issue with Kodi is the short passing game. If you watch clips of Kentucky when the Air Raid was going stronge, most of the passes were short ones and the yards after catch came into play.
I guess the best way to describe our offensive issues is to say that if you run the spread you have to cause the defense to spread out. We haven't done that.
Free the offense!!!!
Ari Gold is the best character on TV.
I predict Kodi comes out and plays well. Conservative with a few long passes to keep them honest
Ari Gold is good, and his assistant too. Entourage is a show I am still trying to figure out. I am not sure what I like about it. The episodes are short and pretty predictable, but it is kind of addictive.
Trooper Taylor? He was very animated when he was at Tennessee, chest-bumping players as they came off the field. I didn't know what position he was supposed to be coaching, but he always seemed to have a towel in hand. I just figured he was like Cuba Gooding in "Radio", and there was something not quite right about him.
Steve- make sure you watch it from the beginning. I really wish the episodes were an hour long. Lots of good characters on the show. Lloyd is great also, but Ari is tops.
I think we just need to let Kodi go out and be Kodi. No he isn't going to throw 250 yds and 3 tds but he can go out and be effective. I really think he needs the confidence. I'm not saying he is THE solution. Far from it. However, playing into his style and letting him grow will do wonders in the long run.
dnatl- Trooper Taylor was RB coach at UT.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fWvub_WBho
Please click on the above link or copy and paste it to your browser. I dedicate this clip to Jay G. Tate, bloggist extraordinaire.
Taylor coached RB's at UT for a couple of years, and then switched back to WR. He's supposed to be a damn good recruiter as well. But my first impression of him (either on TV or at the 2004 beatdown by Auburn in Knoxville) was that he was head cheerleader. Then, in the SECCG in Atlanta that year, when he was out there almost on the numbers high-fiving and chest-bumping after plays, I was like "Hey, there's Radio again!".
Per his bio, he was promoted at UT to be in charge of social activities at UT the last two years. So he had that going for him.
Trooper is an excellent recruiter.
Trooper is alot like muschamp in his sideline behavior.
Looking for positives:
Kodi seems like a different guy. I like it.
The D will be rested and healed. I know some folks don't want to hear that injuries affect play, but the stats bear that out.
WVa had an off week also. Most SEC teams lost the game prior to the off week and won the game after the off week last season.
That means a lot, crudup.
Thanks.
(ps: A 20-year-old Elisabeth Shue looked mighty good to a 12-year-old Jay Tate when that movie was released.)
ps: She's still smokin, too.
Wow.
I had no idea.
I think I loved her best in Cocktail. She's always been in my Top 5 All Time Girl Next Door rankings.
I vote Cocktail as best Shue film also. Very smokin.
Maybe Tommy could get Trooper here as OC and chief anti-CNS recruiter.
And like a lot of women these days she seems to age very well. She may look her best right now according to the pics I just took a gander at.
Ralph Macchio. What the hell? How can you just go away like that? There was absolutely no warning.
Ignore anything if a poster by the name of Eddie4au's wife posts anything. She finds humor in everything.
Ralph Macchio - last seen HERE
Auburn's offense - Still MIA
I'm voting for Ms. Shu to be in the Hottie Girls Album, or whatever it's called. The thing Ms. Fisher is in. That thing.
I just read where some guy reported "from a friend" that our center to QB exchange resulted in 30+ drops to the turf in one practice this past week.
Maybe that's what Hawley was referring to with his quote on the QBs not checking out like he had hoped.
We suck.
If we can't take a snap. Rut Row.
Jay, have you heard any talk of Borges to Opelika High School after Spence retires? I have heard rumors and I saw him at the Opelika-Smiths Station game Fri. Just wondering.
That's one that I can find out about. Very interesting.
Mr Sense, I had the Stones' 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' plaing, lightly, in the background per iTunes and it was really cool. But it wasn't as cool when the music from the video kicked up.
I've heard that about Borges and Opelika.
I have absolutely no idea if that's legit. I can't imagine Al Borges handling that job with aplomb, but it's not like we're BFFs.
Maybe he's secretly yearning for a high-school gig.
Yeah, that song is an acquired taste. But it features a ton of that cast.
Except Elizabeth Shue who was too busy being hot elsewhere I suppose.
Catch you all tomorrow.
Seems like I detect a little swagger coming back....
Sense, realize late that those were the orignal boys in the trailors. That's awesome. They either haven't aged well or the makeup crew did a fantastic job. Danielson still looks like he could knock 'em down.
I saw Mrs Borges at the Arkansas game. She looked like she was on a major mission. No Al. Al was nowhere to be found. He probably had the grill rippin' to perfection at 3:30.
We did throw several long passes against Arkansas....didn't connect, but its a start.
"A little less talk and a lot more action".....The Georgia Satellites?
Yeah, I thought it was cool the way they had all of those guys and they were willing to poke a little fun at that time.
By the way, MAJOR COOL POINTS for being a Stones fan!
Big props to you too, Monica, for digging football and blues music.
Jay, I got one more for the night. Any chance you could suggest to Hawley that they move Bos back to his natural position at center? He's no tackle himself as Pugh's proved to not be a good center.
Starting a rap career? Did someone say Montae Pitts?
I am still waiting for his debut track...
What about Kelcy Luke?
Bosley can't play center.
I asked him two weeks ago about that. He said the shoulder won't permit it; too painful.
Damn. Why don't we another center?
That's supposed to be Big Snacks Berry, but I haven't seen much of him on the field this year.
haha thanks for the props, Mister S.
Another "favorite" was DeAndre Green. His claim to fame was shooting a gun in the air on the Haley center Concourse to break up a fight.
Ok the Seattle Seahawks are officially my most hated team.
They just ripped my heart out, I'm going to need a psychiatrist.
200+ comments on a Sunday. I thought Auburn was off this week. Man, oh, man, the HABOTN is on fiiiiiiirrrrreee...
...and I drive a chevrolet movie theatre.
