Looking ahead to A-Day, Part I
Hey everyone. So we're coming up on the most anticipated Auburn A-Day in a decade. There will be plenty of side stories worthy of regard as things unfold Saturday.
You wanna know which player-related tangents I find most appealing? Sure you do.

You wanna know which player-related tangents I find most appealing? Sure you do.
- Quarterbacks: That's the story at this point. To put an even tighter focus on it, I want to know if Neil Caudle is as bad as Tony Franklin reported. I sense that his skill set -- specifically his cleaner throwing mechanics -- eventually may lead him to the starting lineup.
- Onterio McCalebb: As I said on the Gridiron Breakdown earlier this week, McCalebb has a singularity of purpose I haven't seen at Auburn since Rudi Johnson. Can McCalebb provide the same kind of boost Johnson made during the 2000 season? Probably not, but we'll be able to see Saturday if McCalebb is capable of immediate contribution.
- Mike Slade: Can he play? He looked pretty good the one time I noticed him playing in 2008 ... at Ole Miss.
- Justin Albert: You looking for a sleeper in your Auburn Fantasy Football draft? His walk-on status will keep the bidding low, but it's clear offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn believes in Albert. The former Prattville tailback will have a (previously unforseen) chance to make a mark in 2009 ... provided that trust remains steadfast through the summer. Why is Malzahn smitten? Saturday could provide some answers.
- Defensive front freelancing: DT Mike Blanc indicated last week that assistant coach Tracy Rocker wants his players "doing what they do best." Blanc, a noted "bull" rusher, said he's been given the green light to use that technique as needed. Will Rocker's relaxed approach to conformity of technique result in better production?

Did I make the ladies mad?
No speaky since I came on baord.
dos?
digger, the thread killer.
That's me at least I good at something
xaff..
Tar Heel & Jet were spearheading that operation. I think they're gone.
Nope, not mad. Just had to go clean a bathroom. Today is clean house day. :(
But, in keeping with my love, I have house cleaning down to an organized science :)
Maybe you were talking about post numbers. I thought it was in reference to the earlier jersey number game.
Luv,
Does Timberline or Ballantrae (sp?) Require a reserved Tee-time? Also, how do the two courses compare playing-wise and cost-wise?
I want to try and go play one of them tomorrow, either morning or afternoon.
Thanks!
Jet = Monday, 9 a.m., Legislator!!!!
Office Supply Fetish? Does this involve a stapler, or worse a staple remover?
WEG - I would LOVE to shop at the Container Store. sigh
Digger - How is talking about office supplies "girl talk"?
Hit and Run Gun show.
Back from dentist with shiny yellow teeth!
WEG- I'm no longer on FB, and even when I briefly was, I didn't use real name. I'm paranoid about that id theft stuff.
LUV- golf over AU football, oh my.
MON- Mrs THT and I both love us some office supplies. Put me in Staples and I'm a happy camper. Never thought of it as a fetish, though. We don't have office supplies in our bedroom if that's what it means.
Digger - Just trying to do a little work between posts. ;-)
Cincy - I'm getting into recycling and all things Green. So, I'm going to try out some Green cleaning products.
Should I leave now or wait till early morning?
I may compromise and drive to ~Clemson after supper.
I just love how conversations get started on here.
We just got in catalogs for Greener office supplies, Mon. You'd love it.
200 + Dave Beck (or Neil Caudle)
What hit and run?
A fetish isn't necessarily sexual.
Merriam-Webster def b: an object of irrational reverence or obsessive devotion
WHOA! Gun show posted twice in one hour! I feel like we're in a committed relationship now.
Green is Good. We recycle all sorts of crap that we probably wouldn't if we lived elsewhere. The Chapel Hill weirdos are rubbing off on us.
I'm jealous of all you A-Day attendees. If I didn't still have 3 rooms to paint, and if I didn't need to get it done this weekend, then I'd be there.
Cincy, if you love cleaning that much, you're more than welcome to clean my house anytime you want.
Wow...cracking pretty hard on me today huh?
digger probably has a closet fetish and doesn't want us to find out what the men are thinking
I'm sorry, both cleaning supplies and office supplies are some of the most boring topics I've seen on the habotn.
i just got back from the gym.
does that count in the 'gun show' discussion? :)
Gunshow - I'm not cracking on you. Just making observations, honey.
:-)
Miller - not that many people here have said they are attending A day.
Scottie - You always count in the gunshow.
tar heel, you don't consider posting on here being out in the public? who is really anonymous? the libs in chapelhill are rubbing off on you
Digger is a big ole walking fetish! I can assure you.
Wake,
you dont' like the post-its, or the wide variety of Sharpies, or the hanging color-coded file folders, or the wonderful D-ring binders?
OMG Prowler! I just read your post about the Green supplies catalog! I want it!
I am the gun show.
Austin - Thanks for your input.
Haha, sorry THT, don't care for them at all.
Then again, I didn't even like crayons when I was little. Always been more into things that made noise and could cause destruction.
I have always enjoyed a good staple remover though.
I know Monica. Just having a little fun with you as well.
WEG,
not really. Tar Heel Tiger + Chapel Hill is still pretty anonymous
LOL. Mon, you are funny.
things that could make noise and cause destruction.... yes, those are definitely more fun than office supplies. Office supplies generally won't get you in as much trouble, though.
Shredders...Hello?!
speaking of destruction... there was a story on local news about the northerly spread of fire ants. Does anyone else like setting fire to fire ant hills as much as I do?
(it stems from an incident in LA when I was 4)
I'm still carrying a grudge
See, Prowler understands me. ;-)
Prowler -yes shredders! Mrs THT and I have his and her shredders!!!
i like the heavy duty ones that will shred cds and credit cards.
Mrs THT has an industrial shredder. I bet it could shred a puppet
purrrrr
Mashed potatoes taste better with shredded puppets.
Mon - sounded like shopping talk therefore girl talk
WEG - I came out of the closet years ago and what you see is what you get.
Dave Beck - I watched him in High School, Lee of Huntsville. Did you know he was one of the best shooting guards in high school basketball?
Oh, D. Miller, you misunderstand. I hate housecleaning, that is why I am so organized at it - so I can do it quickly and get on to fun stuff, like reading HABOTN!
Doing ok over there, Mon?
I bet Wake is about to go nuts with all this supply talk.
MON- that's funny... and I don't even care for cats.
Here kitty kitty...
I'll be OK. I'm just going to visit the Staples website and compose muhseff.
Don't let Michael know that y'all are shredding puppets...that might be the end of puppet hour.
re: Dave Beck... I know nothing except he was an excellent DB and he though a TD pass in Gator Bowl on fake FG.
threw
Mon,
I have used Shaklee cleaning products for years - ways before green was the in thing. I love them and they are cheaper than dirt because they are so concentrated. Truthfully, I kind of rebel against the whole recycle, green movement, because I feel it is so forced on me. I do it for the most part, but it is a little too Al Gore for me to like it.
D Miller ...
Please note part A of my 1:21 post ... it was for you.
Beck also got a bad snap on the tee after the first blocked punt in the 17-16 game.
You were closer to right the first time THT ... it's "thoughed"
cincy- if it wasn't for AL GORE , ther wood be no HABOTN
He played QB in high scholl and wasn't bad. He wasn't very tall 5' 8" or so.
I'm doing it because I started actually educating myself about it and it's just what is good for my planet. I resisted for years for the same reason, but now I'm really getting into it. I want to do some of the radical stuff with our next house. The cost savings is incredible.
Cory - you big ole stud puppy
Tom and I are going to A Day, and my daughter and son-in-law, and my son who is a student at Auburn, and my in-laws, and my sister and her husband and my niece, and my nephew from Atlanta (whose parents are Alabama alums) two friends from Birmingham, and two friends from LaGrange. I think that is 15, plus whatever college friends of my son's show up for free food. Come and join us!
Why is everyone so upset at JJ because we don't want to give up a home game to play a mediocre UCLA team in Atlanta?
I don't get it.
THT,
How could I forget that I have Al to thank for the internet!
I don't know, but I'm tired on Doug talking about it.
on = of
Cincy- THTjr and I are friends of your son, although he may not yet be aware of that fact. We'll be there, wherever there is!
I guess the question is: Do we want to be like Bama?
Jet
I don't either, games do not materilize between two schools all the time.
It must be part of the "I hate JJ and anything he does"
Mon,
I do those things because it is good for all of us, I just resent some of the tactics that are used to force me into it.
A Lagrange reference!! My hometown.
Puppy...lol. Hey I did turn 30..
30....young puppy
Bro Jet - I haven't said a single unkind word about JJ on this issue. I fully support his decision. I wouldn't be opposed to a non-home "marquee" matchup, but it needs to be planned ahead of time so contracts won't be broken.
THT,
It is amazing how many friends my son has. I am always feeding an extra 8 - 15 kids at tailgates. But, I love it.
I know digger...what can I say?
Young guys do find that free food.
And mom's like you are a treasure.
I don't believe I have ever looked so forward to a scrimmage game.
Say thank God I ain't as old as digger!!
I wonder if Staples has ever thought of incorporating a singles hookup into their web site.. a place for office supply lovers to meet.
I think it's because everyone is tired of us playing all of the small schools in Louisiana, and directional schools from the southeast.
Plus, we have 8 home games that year already. I think it would be a good thing for Auburn on many levels to drop the UT Chattanooga home game and add UCLA.
Who else is excited about seeing Onterio? I think I'll rename him Onterio McCale cause I'm hoping there won't be any ebb to his game.
The Braves are killing me! Barring a miracle, they are just about to get swept by the Marlins.
Ok, peeps. Gotta go back to work now. Talk to y'all later!
I leave you with this: Every time I hear Mr. U's voice I envision VH1's Whiteboy.
ehyou ...
And I'm going to miss it ... maybe I can sneak away from the Mrs., put a panty on my head and use a code name.
Well, no miracle, Braves lose. Off to clean another bathroom.
I was a HUGE Braves fan back in the day. Felipe Alou still my all-time favorite major leaguer. I loved listening to Milo Hamilton on the radio.
Since that strike in ~'94 I haven't paid 2 seconds of attention to baseball
Arkansas State, Louisiana-Monroe, Chattanooga and Clemson are our non-conference opponents in 2010...except for Clemson, who cares about the other 3. (Well except for UTC since they are my other alma mater.)
Gotta go
Braves will break your heart
I have been a Braves fan since they were in Boston.
Well Hotties how long has that been
1952
The Braves were in Boston at least back to the 40's, because they were in Milwaukee in the 50's when Aaron started.
200 + Doug Smith
I think one of their early playing fields in Boston had the deepest CF ever, over 600 feet
1953 was first season in Milwaukee
300 + Obamanu
300+ Dale Murphy
was Neil O'Donohue a "2"?
I believe Mieko Collier was #2
300 + Fred Smith
Happy Birthday, Gunshow
300 + Stanford Simmons
O'Donoghue was indeed No. 2.
Trivia ... two parts ... one easy ...
Neil O'Donoghue was a transfer ... from what school did her transfer and what sport did he play there?
did her transfer? was it an all-girls school?
St Bernard
Soccer
He transferred.
Wellesley & beach volleyball?
I echo ehyou
It's bad when your claim-to-fame as a kicker is missing kicks.
Ehyou is right ... St. Bernard in Cullman, which is now just a high school.
It changed names to Southern Benedictine, but that didn't save it.
Jet,
I saw your post... I'm jealous and was trying not to say anything mean in retort.
Where is Luv,
I need info on the Bham courses. Should I try to play Timberline or Ballantrae (or is it Baltrade?)?
This comment has been removed by the author.
Anyone know if the A-Day game will be available on the internet? I don't get CSS
D Miller ...
Even better, I'M NOT PAYING.
Bro- I didn't have any idea St Barnard was in Alabama. I thought it was in Ireland or Scotland.
This comment has been removed by the author.
300 + Tre Smith
crap
300 + Tim Jessie?
i didn't know that about Donoghue. cool.
Braves break my heart as well
300 + Langner
Southern Benedictine College AKA St. Bernard College
300 + Tommy Agee?
300 + Fast Freddie Smith
what on earth ever happened to Fast Freddie? He was one of Auburn's greatest LBs ever. Never heard a peep about him after he finished at AU.
Fast Freddie story
There was a Freddie Smith that directed Alabama prison system in the 90's. Same guy?
Jet,
Good luck on your round on Monday. I have played the Senator and Legislator. Both nice courses. I want to go play the Judge, but I don't have anyone that will take me (pay).
Hola from scenic Prospect, Ky.
They're still dealing with winter storm damage up here. Trees/limbs down all over the place. That was in JANUARY, too.
Tommie Agee ... my high school football opponent. Ugh.
D Miller ... Legislator most playable of the three courses. I've played the Judge once. Not until I'm a competent golfer do I want any part of it again.
Wow!! 22 & 24 tackles in a game. Doesn't speak well for his teammates.
Freddie was the LBOH of his day ... snap of the ball, he takes off after it. He either made the tackle, or was faked out of his shorts.
he usually made the tackle.
Hi Jay GT, glad you're safe and sound in Prospect. Thanks for the A-Day preview.
I loved Part 1 of the A-Day preview, can the sequel measure up?
What are you doing in Prospect, KY?
Looking for four stars.
just google mapped to see where you are. Those are some seriously humongoid homes.
and I'm very glad to see they don't (or didn't) overseed the fairways with winter rye, or whatever it is golf courses use to keep fairways green in winter. I don't like mixing grasses in fairways. But then, I don't play golf so who cares.
what number was Mark Dorminey?
was he an 18? or a 46?
I need some Valtrex. My HIV (Habotn Inhibiting Virus) apparently has resurfaced.
Dorminey was 46, I believe. His partner in crime, Bob Harris, was 28.
and my computer is urinating too much.
YO Bro!
Yes, I loved me some Bob Harris!
Snake Stabler not returning to booth at UAT.
Here's some uninteresting news for everyone...Did you guys see the "unveiling" of the new Miss St uniforms? They have a deal with Adidas to provide uniforms and footwear. Side note, UCLA also wears Adidas jerseys and footwear. Three Bruins have broken bones in their feet since they started wearing Adidas shoes.
OK, I've changed my mind. We gotta play UCLA ... bad shoes.
Didn't we have problems with the New Balance cleats?
I guess when you change your uni after 3 years or after every coaching change, you get numb to it.
We got Adidas shoes one year on the basketball team, and they were the worst shoes I ever done worn.
Michael = Tardy Puppet
We don't use the word "tardy" around here. It's insensitive.
I've been hanging around you too much, Jet. I predicted a tard comment.
Monica,
Have you (or anyone else) checked into the hot water on demand tankless water heating systems? If anyone has this, do you like it and is it worth the cost?
Adidas are great. If not, why would Run-DMC have sung about them?
I'm assuming we are still using the Under Armor uniforms? Please tell me nothing else is changing this year. I can't handle this much change at one time.
Best Hoop Shoes = Dr. J's Converse
I'm not sure what that is exactly. I wonder if it's why my nephew was talking to me about this weekend. If it is, he's having one installed in his home remodel and I'll let you know what I hear.
I hope the scoreboard operator Saturday has his slide rule and abacus handy.
Apparently you don't have a water heater, just this box type think that heats water instantly when you need it. You don't have a tank sitting around with 80 gallons of hot water in it. Sounds like a neat concept, just don't know anyone who has it.
ehyou,
Scoring sure is going to be a lot more complicated. I don't think I am going to try and keep score. They can just tell me who won when it is over.
I don't care about the score ... I just want to know who played well.
Who looked like fundamentally sound football players?
Who looks like they might hate UAT with a passion?
Who is having an affair with a puppet?
I am glad they are bringing back the autograph session after the game. My nephew is so pumped. We got a special Auburn football for him to have signed to take back to his all Alabama house.
Cincy..
When they first came out, they left something to be desired. The recent models offer comparable performance. You will see some savings over time. It's all about weighing the up-front cost.
I've heard great things Cincy, pricey up front but from what I hear they save a considerable amount of money. Not to mention Al Gore will approve, I know your into that kinda thing.
Great I complained about boring topics now I'm commenting on water heaters.
To make myself feel better I"m throwing this out there. I might go test drive a 370Z tomorrow. I really want to drive a new Camaro SS when they hit the streets, so sexy.
Thanks ehyou and wake! And, wake the car sounds sexy. I'm looking at a new boring Honda Accord. But, at least I made it through without ever driving a minivan!
Residential tankless water heaters cost 2-3 times more than traditional tank water heaters. Small families/low hot water use households benefit the most. The hot tank sits unused, thus wasting energy much more in a small household.
The Accords are nice cars, not near as boring as they once were. I would drive one
Of Course I'd rather have the Camaro.
In reality I'll probably stick with my truck.
monica, freud would say that all fetishes are sexual.#96=holley caldwell from scottsboro, al. coincidence?
So I learned on HABOTN today that fetish doesn't have to be a dirty word. I am going to start using it all the time at work now to show how enlightened I am.
Don't sell yourself short, Michael.
"more enlightened"
we stayed in hotel with tankless hot water heater. Mrs THT and Miss THT loved the hot showers. THTjr and I didn't notice.
I wear a tankini when I got to the beach.
Bro Jet,
I'd pay to see tha!
tha=that
tankini? what's that?
Hmmm, the hottest water heater blog on the net.
TMI Jet. Now I can't get that picture out of my head
BLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE

Great stuff today... Hotties with fetishes!
Hey -- If you were me would you buy a used (1 month old) Blackberry Bold and unlock it - staying wiff TMobile or wait 4 months and become a cell phone free agent????
I need a new phone.
Gel pens, legal pads, staple removers, oh my!
Cincy - I've been in the car business for 8 years now.
If you need some info - holla atcha brah.
If you need a new cell phone, wait until the Palm Pre comes out in the next a couple of months and join sprint.
Joey, your avatar is going to give me nightmares.
tankini = eeww. cell phone = wait. better deals coming up.
What kind of deals? How do we know this?
I'm jones'n for a crackberry but what's this Palm thingymajig?
As far as all of you wondering about my handle - Agent Turtlehead.
My 5 year old and I were playing "Charlie's Angel/007 spies" the other night using our home cordless phones' ability to intercom back and forth and we needed names.
Considering where I was when I agreed to be a spie - Agent Turtlehead and Agent Prairie Dog was agreed to play 007 was apropo.
My wife - or Charlie - wasn't amused.
i think the phones will be better/cheaper and the terms more affordable. i'm waiting to upgrade.
