THURSDAY MORNING
Post No. 1,197
Hey everyone. I saw a Lamborghini Gallardo convertible during my morning commute. It was registered in Montgomery. I am beyond shocked because, you know, I expected to go my entire life without seeing a Lamborghini Gallardo convertible with a "3" tag.
You Facebook people can peep my latest domicillian calamity. My favorite tree went down in the wind event we had in Montgomery the other day. Damn pear trees. No staying power.
(Putting that one on the tee.)
You want Auburn information. I know. Here we go.

You want Auburn information. I know. Here we go.
THINGS GLEANED FROM SPRING PRACTICE
- Gene Chizik represents a major shift in attitude: This is not Tommy Tuberville Jr. Chizik, who spent three seasons working under Tuberville, reminds nobody of the Tigers' former head coach. Practices were closed. Player access was somewhat restricted. Injury information was limited. OK, all information was limited. People seemed to enjoy Tuberville for his provincial ways. They won't be saying that about Chizik. I'm not saying he won't be successful. I'm saying he won't be a crowd charmer. Do you care? Probably not as long as the team wins.
- I know why Gus Malzahn has been successful: He works smarter. The guy is a bookworm who constantly is examining defenses and other offenses for ideas he can implement into his own paradigm. Offensive coordinators typically are happy, chatty, carefree guys (ie Al Borges, Tony Franklin, Noel Mazzone) who approach the game like art. It's organic. Malzahn has a more calculating nature, which I typically associate with defensive coordinators. I expect Auburn's offense to be surprisingly intuitive next season.
- The new coaches are very hands-on: You have the theatrics of Trooper Taylor, the raw vitriol of Jay Boulware, the abrupt stylings of Curtis Luper and the minute-by-minute oversight of Ted Roof when he's with the linebackers. The days of sideline coaching are over. This group has more energy than their predecessors. It's a more intense experience for the players without a doubt. Will that affect major changes? We'll see.

...take two pucks and call me in the morning.
GO PENS!!!
Is it august
Dear Leader- not quite. But as long as the puck is still active, we'll be ok. Thanks for allowing me the privilege, BTW.
Jay GT- simply amazing. I gobble up your words like I did that country style steak the other night...with a spoon. YUMMMM.
Thanks!!!
Why can't it be Friday?!
JGT,
I hear you on CGC but to hear his former players talk, he has to be somewhat of charmer. He seems to do well with recruits and parents. Is it that he just doesn't see the value in trying to please everyone as maybe Tubbs did???
Anyone know the cummulative number of starts that our offensive line has?
CGC doesn't have to charm me. He just needs to have his priorties set, which are:
1. Beat Bama
2. Stay off probation (unless it interferes with top priority)
3. Graduate players
4. Win some other games.
Prowler it was something like 45 or 55, are you talking about the article where they equate OL starting experience to wins?
Ok, I'll admit, priorities 2 through 4 are just window dressing.
good morning all. i've finally got a few free days to myself.
If beating Bama is the #1 priority, then he's the wrong coach for us. It should be a priority, but not the top one.
We need more trophies other than the Iron Bowl.
Yeah, it said that Alabama was a team to worry about with 50 starts.
I don't.
JGT,
I would also like to get your opinion on CGM. He is only 3 years removed from the HS Coaching ranks. Does he have aspirations of taking over a major head coaching job or is happy being a well paid and strong OC Cordinator. If he is looking to move on up how long does he need before he takes on a new role.

Doesn't see the value in pleasing "everyone," yes.
58 starts
10-110 over next 10 years with 10 wins against Bama? I'll renew my season tickets in a heartbeat.
110-10 over next 10 years with 10 losses to Bama, I'm pretty sure I'd be out by the 5th year. I don't ever want to relive that wretched 9 years.
I really like this staff. I just wish the HC was more of a...
Not sure what the word is, but I think this bunch could be unstoppable if the leaders was a little more proven.
Just my thoughts...
"10-110 over next 10 years with 10 wins against Bama? I'll renew my season tickets in a heartbeat."
I don't understand this. Yes I understand hatred for Bama, but we should want SEC championships more than beating them.
Chizik just needs a little more charisma...or really any charisma.
What's odd about the perception of CGC not being very charismatic is that he worked for 2 people that are, Mack Brown and Tubbs. You would think that he would of picked up on some of that while being around them.
WERK - you are right. And I don't understand it, either. But that's just the way I'm wired. And I do hate me some bama.
THT,
I didn't grow up in the 70's so thankfully I missed out on the 9 in a row.
CGC developing charisma at this stage is about as likely as me having sufficient funds for retirement. The former doesn't concern me in the least. The latter does.
Well said, RK.
Charisma would be nice. Tubs was a good BSer, and that was frustrating at time, but at least you could get behind it.
Chizik hasn't said/done anything to mobilize the base. However, he's only been on the job a handful of weeks.
I suppose I am just whining about nothing. Will shut up now.
I hate being the guy hanging out in the other thread...hitting refresh...no content and then discovering a new thread almost 30 posts old.
Any takers with me that the Titans will not draft a WR until the 3rd round or later?
Sensi, BS is fun but losing after the BS talk is not fun at all.
Sensi, with the acquisition of Nate Washington, I doubt the Titans will draft a receiver in the top 2 rounds, all the good ones will be gone by their first pick and the Titans never trade up. I could however, see them making the trade for Anquan Boldin. Time will tell.
Hi Uncle,
I was going to encourage thread migration, but I didn't know proper protocol, i.e. should I let Jay GT do that when he's good & ready or should I just go ahead and let the cat out of the bag myself. I could use some guidance.
THT,
There are a lot of people who share the same thoughts as you as the Bama game being the #1 priority. A lot of people with a lot of power, but sadly I think that holds us back far more than we realize.
I was justa reminiscing my heart out about Destin and giving travel advice on the old thread! HAHA
My view Re: Bammer, it's good to beat them. But it's equally good to beat UGA, LSU, UT, UF etc etc etc. I want to win them all.
So what's with the tease of the Leo Carson/Zills story?
Should we make the story up ourselves?
I don't recall us ever having a bad season when we beat Alabama.
However, I do recall 91, 92, 98, 99 & last year being the worst seasons we've had during my time following Auburn football and they all ended with losses to Alabama.
Usually when we win the Iron Bowl it has been to cap off a pretty good year.
I'm with Seanzie on the finding out about the new thread thing. And thanks for stopping my refresh insanity
They were having a players-only meeting in 1998. That was the final Bowden season.
Players are talking.
Zills stands up to say something.
Carson demands that he sit down immediately because, as he said, nobody cares what the punter thinks.
2003...I think everyone agrees that year was a huge disappointment.
He used more colorful language, of course.
Jay G,
Two things...
1. A lot of player turmoil during the Bowden ear, especially toward the end.
2. Carson wasn't lying.
Okay So Carson, Zills and Jay G Tate walk in to a bar....
If only said punter was around for Ensminger and his "live to punt" strategy...
2003 was a greatly disappointing year, but we did win 8 games. So it wasn't a disaster.
I love being 2 minutes late
Bowden era, not ear.
I must have been thinking of Tub when I was typing.
Pre-season Top Ten, 6-5 going into the IB with a coach who is all but fired...man what a way to start out as an Auburn fan, but yes it was nice to win the Music City Bowl.
What if Marissa Miller was the punter? I care what she has to say.
1998 = lots of player discord.
No doubt. Sociology classes should examine that team for clues into cannibalistic human behavior.
WERK- you are fortunate. My freshman year we didn't win a single home game.
Monie,
I loved the walk down memory lane on the other thread.
Night Town in Destin, Cash's in Ft. Walton, and Spinnaker in PCB. Good times were had by all... so they tell me.
Leo Carson...oh the memories. Leo always let you know where he believed you stood, especially a certain QB on the team.
Going into the 2003 season nobody knew how much losing Bobby Petrino was going to mean to that team, nor did they know how badly Nallsminger using Petrino's offense would be different than Petrino using Petrino's offense.
Funny how they never expected teams to pick up on if the TE or FB moves to the left, the run is going to the left strategy, nor did they ever expect the DL to stunt instead of running straight at the OL.
Monica- Thanks for the advice on previous thread. I like the everything fried, sandy & icey cold beers establishment that you spoke of.
i'm just curious about what tubberville ends up doing.
|Jay- it seems to erk you that your not being allowed as much access to the team..I haven't really noticed a drop off..maybe you are just that good..
THT, my freshman year we went 9-1-1, blowing a huge lead to UGA and losing a chance to come back and tie Bama due to a bad ref's spot on a 4th down play.
(any year) beating bama = huge disappointment year = oxymoron
Jay, that picture on the front page is fan-freaking-tastic.
2004 more than made up for 2003. I went to every single game in 2004.
Sweet story. Punters. Ha!
weagle ... I think I got that from Scottie. It's one of my favorites.
Uncle- that's awesome!!!! I can't imagine getting to that many games. I think I made 7 games in '83 (went to athens, missed florida home game due to work). That's about the best I've done. Nowadays, getting to 3 games is an accomplishment.
Best places to eat at the beach that you may have not heard of:
Dusty's in PC. This is an oyster bar dominated by locals. Their motto is warm beer, bad food, and ugly waitresses. I disagree... the beer is cold and the food is good. 2 out of three aint bad.
Get the baked oysters. They are fantastic.
Angelina's in Seagrove Beach. Best chicken piccatta on the planet. The pizza cheese sticks are unbelievable.
Elmo's - 30A just outside of Destin. Seafood nachos rock and the dude on guitar plays Warren Zevon.
I don't quite understand the "more important to beat bama" vs "more important to win the SEC" argument. Who really cares what the coach's priority is? I imagine it is something more simple like "What can I do to win the game this week?" All this other junk is just stuff for fans to argue about.
I just don't understand how Chizik or anyone else would change their methods depending on whether the winning the SEC or National Championship priority is above or below the beating bama priority. This is nonsense talk.
I heartily concur with Weagle251's astute observation.
I feel like I'm forgetting another place in FWB - a club that was very cheesy and they played Strokin' every 5 minutes.
scott-tubbs will be coaching at lsu after miles gets fired...then it'll be fun in the west...til then he will do espn stuff...
I think Michael just likes to disagree with whatever I am arguing.
Priorities:
1. Win championships.
2. Stay out of trouble
Ok, so I need help. That's not news. I'll gladly take championships and beatings of bama, but if only one is allowed, i'll choose bama beatings every time.
Now, in regards to the BC coaching situation, I couldn't agree with you more.
Monie,
Not Cash's Faux Paus?
Could be the cheesiest place ever.
I'll spare you my unbalanced thoughts for a while. Someone just gave me heads up on some old maps in a nearby store and it's very quiet at work so I'm going to slip out and go map hunting.
I don't directly disagree with you, rk. Personally I would much rather win the SEC Championship than beat bama, and I wish we would have scheduled UCLA.
However, we do indirectly disagree in that I don't think either of these topics actually matter.
I don't think we've ever won a championship without beating UAT. So it is implied.
The goal for any team should be to win championships. Beating UAT shouldn't be our end. It is merely a means to the end.
In the big picture those topics do matter, but not as much as other things.
However, the time post spring game - pre fall workouts everything gets magnified as there is nothing else to talk about.
So let's talk 'cruitin'.
I think we all agree that we need to do a better job in-state. That's a given.
But what's the problem with spreading our net a little wider?
Let's talk waterboarding. Where do you guys stand on that?
I like to try and do tantrums when I'm waterboarding...
I prefer white-water rafting.
I protest waterboarding. It disturbs the fish.
I too wanna know where the gold's at...I would also like that girls phone number if anyone has it.
867-5309
That's Jenny's number! She's a crazy girl.
Dallas, Texas bound tomorrow for a basketball tourney
My parents used to always take us waterboarding when we were kids. Ahh....simulated drowning, those were the days!
Has anyone ever called the Dell's Den line?
Will, I would also care what Marissa Miller had to say...as well as Erin Andrews.
Prowler let's start a campaign for the Miller/ Andrews ticket in the next election. I'll let you pick which one gets to be Pres.
That would be awesome...I would be begging for a presidential address for once in my life!
How can you not love this new staff and their energy? I bet they would be a hoot at a party! Chiz would be that guy who's a stiff 99% of the time until you get a few drinks in him then he's standing on the roof of the house shouting "I AM A GOLDEN GOD!" before jumping into the pool.
i dvrd the 2003 AU v PSU capital one bowl. it was on espn classic "before they were pros" yesterday.
that was the end of chizik's first year and he had the D playing at pretty high level and was pretty firey on the sidelines. it was nuts to see all the NFL players on that AU team: torbor, ratliff, johnson, rogers, rosegreen, dansby, & thomas. that doesn't include t-rob, mark brown, t. williams, t. jackson, and other solid players.
i didn't remember how crappy we actually played offensively in that game. 0 points deep into the 3rd. everyone remembers brown scorching PSU, but he earned most all of it himself. the OL got owned a lot of that game. i don't see how we got so excited about 2003 in retrospect watching that O and campbell sputter around. greg knox's poor WR coaching was front and center in that game.
watching tubs, chizik, and petrino together on the sidelines was like a twilight zone episode. and tubs looked like a different person. it is obvious how the years in the coaching grind had worn on him. he needed to get out.
Chip saying that that D agaisnt PSU was playing at a pretty high level is an understatement. I seem to remember either Dansby or Torbor saying something to the effect that larry Johnson wouldn't be good enough to play RB at Auburn. He was only fast enough to be a LB. That D was just nasty!
chiz didn't look like a stiff against PSU. i don't think he talks to his mama with that mouth. he was going apenuts a lot of the time. maybe to chiz football = 5 long island iced teas.
i just said "pretty high level" because it only got better the next two years he was there.
AU does not win that game if not for the D. it reminded me of the USF game where the O kept digging the D a hole and they kept climbing out anyway.
With exception to his head coaching record, how many of you think that Chizik and Muschamp are pretty much the same guy?
Or let me reword that question...who was the better defensive coordinator?
I got ya Chip. I was just stressing how bad azz a D has to be to tell a player of Larry Johnson's caliber something like that. Man I hope we can get that mentality back on D. We are usually pretty good but i was us to be nasty! Remember Carlos Rodgers coming out before the Tenn game and making some comments about they were gonna shutdown the UT offense. Everyone that he was crazy for saying that before the game. They thought he was a prophet by halftime.
Chizik. He never let UGa run roughshod over us. Was he at AU when Arky had 4,763 yards rushing against us, or did that debacle predate the Chiz?
Prowler I'd give the edge to Chiz. His defenses just didnt seem to have a weakness. I cant think of Muschamp without seeing a DB get beat for not looking back for the ball.
Unfortunately it was General Gene in charge of the defense during the Arkansas debacle.
Uncle Seanzie,
In the future, if the answer is not going to be to my liking, consider my question to be rhetorical ;-)
2 diet cokes down, 3 more to go (more if we get into OT tonight)
Ummm...
I don't get the photo at the top of this post.
I'm either too old or too far removed from central Alabama.
Anyone care to explain??? Or shall I just begin to throw out random guesses?
That's funny, THT.
Though I bet it had more to do with Daniel Cobb turning the ball over and the offense just not being up to par.
If I never hear Daniel Cobb's name again I will be happy.
Yes, Chizik was there in 2002 when Arkansas ran all over us. Fred Talley could have been driving a semi truck through the holes their line was opening in our D.
The big problem there was it was a close game right before half then Talley went 80 yards, then Duval had a punt blocked and suddenly we went from down 3 to down 13 in about two minutes.
As far as the Penn State game goes, I remember Larry Johnson being a baby after the game saying it was their coaches fault they didn't win because they didn't use him enough.
61, she's hot. what's not to get?
The other problem with the 2002 Arkansas game was we focused so much on stopping Matt Jones the week prior to the game, that we didn't know what to do when he didn't even try to run the ball most of the time.
He had burned us for 100 yards the year before in his first ever start, so we weren't going to let that happen again...late in the game he did bust a long run, but that was long after the game was already decided.
61, here are my 3 guesses...
1) She's hot.
2) The sign is funny...for 2 different reasons.
3) She's an AU chick...and did I mention she's hot?
what sign?
TarHeel,
I got THAT, but the sign is completely cryptic.
Is it a local joke of some sort?
What's up with the gold? Who's Abby? Why doesn't Abby have her own clothes? Why is she carrying such a big a** sign?
So many questions, so few answers...
and y'all though my priorities were messed up ;-)
ok 61, I'll admit. I haven't a clue.
The gold saying came from an area near Mobile where there was apparently a leprechaun sighting in a treee...while interviewing nearby residents, a guy states, "I'm gonna rent a backhoe and uproot that tree. I wanna know where the gold at. I want the gold."
The video is on youtube...you should check it out.
gold a reference to LSWho?
It really is quite comical and sad at the same time.
The Abbey thing was funny just because she was calling her out in front of everyone, whether they knew who she is or not.
and yes, gold was a ref. to LSwho.
I'm all in favor of hot Auburn chicks. I'm married to one.
I just thought there was some sort of inside HABOTN or Auburn joke with the sign. I don't hang out here as much as most of you unemployed degenerates.
Perhaps the photo is of Ms Jay G. Tate? Or perhaps it's his girlfriend (shhhh, don't tell his wife)...
my hot auburn chick wife isn't blonde, so it's not her. Plus she wouldn't be caught dead in orange. Not our color.
here is the link to the video...

BTW, 61, I take offense.
I am not unemployed.
although I should be unemployed today. certainly not enough work here today to cover FTE cost.
I too am gainfully employed.
Employed as well.
Jay GT- did I tell you how cool I think the word "vitriol" is?
I too am employed. I think 61 may have been lurking here in between his monster searches. Best of luck to you 61, it's a tough market out there.
I'm reluctantly employed.
Has anyone seen my stapler?
Yeap employed but off today!
my favorite vitriol is the blue one.
I'm blue da ba dee da ba da
Prowler- Apparently you didn't get the memo.
You all following the rumors on the Redskins trying to move up and take Mark Sanchez (and possibly ship JCampbell elsewhere)?
Crap. Oh well.
Later, Hotties!
I'd love for Jason to get out of that place...that team is going nowhere.
The Redskins are a horribly run org.
Daniel Snyder doesn't have a clue how to build a football team other than he just tries to throw money on everything and fix it.
That being said, Jason's 180 yards per game doesn't cut it in the NFL. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes, but he doesn't take a lot of risks either.
ok, Hotties...
I think I can round up about 20 minutes of work, then I've got a few calls to make. Y'all have a most pleasant afternoon.
WAR EAGLE!!!
I am Sensi...Where there is smoke there is fire. This is the second time this offseason that a Jason Campbell replacement has been mentioned. Sounds like JCam's days in DC are limited. Sad to see.
Let's speculate on "better" places for JC's "skill set" in the NFL.
I'd take him on the Titans.
Sensi, Jason would fit in well the Titans, wouldn't you think?
Employed ??
You got to be kidding 61
I am unemployed 12 redneck sidewalk RTR fan got 12 I chews tabaccy and spits thru the gap in my two front teeth 12 RTR
You must have made a wrong turn and went to tuscalooooser.
For Jason to be successful in the NFL he needs a team with a great RB. Someone who takes the focus of the QB and in a situation where you just need to manage the game to be a successful QB.
whoops, didn't scroll far enough to see that you already said that. But I agree with you.
Plenty of teams in the NFL make their money on 180 yard games from the QB w/ good defense and strong running game. Jason could start for any of them and win 10-13 games.
The Vikings would be a good fit for Jason.
RK, that's why, as a Titans fan, I would want him on the team. Get one good WR and he's set. That defense is nasty.
Where the heck is Brandon Cox these days?
RK, Vikings are another great choice.
Digger is consistently classic.
"Rack him!" -- Jim Rome
The Skins have gone down hill since Gibbs left.
They are not going to get any better with this bunch running them now.
I would like to see Jason go elswhere.
Campbell would be a lot like Kerry Collins was with the Titans this year, but a bit more athletic. So he'd be a good fit there.
Sensi, Titans need to pony up and go get Boldin.
Brandon Cox is somewhere laughing at me for my comments of "I'm glad he graduated, maybe we'll get some solid production out of the QB spot instead of a game manager."
Seanzie,
You, me and Cowherd have been saying that all morning. No need for the 1st and 3rd round picks on the Titans. Go get Boldin and get JC for a 2nd.
RK, that's funny. That's front page material.
Jay,
Did you see where SI.com's Andy Staples quoted your blog, your quote was from talking about Sen'Derricks NFL potential, saying its a Football playing league and not a combine league. Nice props,
I'll be the first to admit, I was glad he was gone thinking that 2008 would be a breakthrough year after 3 years of him just doing enough to get us by.
What it is this afternoon hotties?
It is what it is.
Ain't it always?
Cory,
It's an Ali Larter day here in HABOTNland.
It never is.
Wait. Maybe it is. I don't know.
I guess it depends on what the meaning of "is" is.
Ali Larter, good choice.
i read somewhere b. cox is in pharma sales in bham.
ship jason to san fran. alex smith has effectively busted and they have some good players on O.
maybe carolina? i dunno...just get outta d.c.
We never really did get an adequate definition there.
I vote Chip change his avatar to Ali Larter.
Jason is never going to be a big time playmaker, but he can be a solid NFL QB with the right supporting staff and a good running game.
He'll never be a guy who can carry a team though.
as we all saw in 2004, jason was much better when he has the working parts around him. again, watching the PSU game, he was flicking rockets 20 yards downfield to WRs who were not looking for the ball.
Ali looks like she's been putting in some core work!
RK Cox is laughing at alot of us for those kinda comments! Man i miss Brandon!! lol
i added balloons to make it more festive. what do you want out of me?
It's 12 National Championships, Aubs.
It's 238 days until your next whipping by THE University!
RTR!
It's a festivus miracle!
Seanzie - I'm not Chip, but I couldn't resist.
Jay new idea for your next submission, how about wheres waldo segment, players that are MIA after spring. Here is my list.
1. Gabe McKenzie - TE/DE- No is saying why the kid has been in street clothes for 3 weeks. I asked his uncle at the gym, no dice. We need him badly for the upcoming year. All they say is undisclosed illness. I am not a doctor but I cant figure this one out.
2. Spencer Pybus - LB - This kid shot onto the scene last year as a Rudy type freshman. Now that the Bull is on the team I have not heard a peep. I know we need depth at LB this year. The kid had less stats at the A-day game than the walk on linbackers.
3. Ryan Shoemaker/Chris Todd P/QB- I know you discussed these two today. I think they are part of the I am just glad I can sit on this scholarship type list.
4. Name a DL/DE - I have not heard a peep out of any of the DL/DE's we signed over the past year or two. I can assume Raven Gray has moved into the hall of fame of ghost recruits. What about the others, Lykes, etc. I have not heard much out of any of them. With our depth we dont need projects we need starters and impact players.
Infidel alert! Infidel alert! lol
Chip ...
I don't think Uncle Seanzie stuttered when he made his request. It was pretty simple: Ali Larter for your avatar.
I really hate Nick Fairley wasnt cleared by the NCAA before Spring, I think he could have used the work learning the schemes and getting in shape.
Big Cat ..
SS (Ex-CC) is a like a hooker. If you don't move, they can't see you. So be very still.
Everyone change to an Ali avatar.
Salsa Shark must have just left his AA meeting...
Especially Dear Leader.
I spoke to some mutual friends of Gabe at A-day game. He really needs the time off guys. Hopefully things will go well and he's be back for summer.
Jay, whats the banhammer code for someone who just cruises by and throws metaphorical egg on the blog?
gatiger, that's a nice look for you. all that running is paying off nicely. ;)
I dont know who Ali Larter is but I'm becoming a fan!
Ali is a unique kind of hot. She looks normal. I appreciate that.
I'm not going to be the only one to sport the Ali avatar. I won't allow this to go on much longer.
Ali Larter image search at work could very well result in my dimissal, that will have to wait until 5 P.M.
For one post only, gatiger.
Here's my Ali avatar.
Sensi, you just put up the very image I was trying to avoid...for now.
Scottie - all that running has definitely paid off for me; back to college weight, sleep better, more energy, etc. However, I don't feel the need to wear a bra and I don't own a cowboy hat.
I'm going back to a more reasonable avatar.
Sorry, Unc.
How's this one?
She might pop up in a whip cream bikini!
