He likes Auburn

Hey everyone. Courtesy of Jet, who linked us, we have this fine photo of Leo DiCaprio.

Damon Evans out at Georgia

Hey everyone. Happy 4th of July to all you American HOTTIES and your families.

We're very lucky to live in a country where people can say what they think in an honest manner. You know who made that happen, who makes that happen right now.

Thank you.

To the business at hand ...

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is parroting a report made by WSB-TV that Georgia athletic director Damon Evans will be employed for only a few more hours. The school reportedly will announce Evans' resignation on Monday.

You probably know that Evans recently was pulled over for DUI -- hours before his new contract (which called for a $110,000 raise) went into effect. Evans himself says drunken driving is a bad idea.

You probably know that some other, embarrassing things occurred during that traffic stop.

He'll soon be unemployed. And that sucks.

I like Evans. He's good for Georgia. He's good for the Southeastern Conference. He's a younger guy, a competent guy, whose voice among the league's power players stood out for its lack of stodginess.

Can Evans realistically remain athletic director? No. He's become a punchline. A leader can be a punchline, but the jokes must center around professional decisions. When personal decisions elicit the laughter, it's a totally different deal. Now he's the drunk AD with red panties in his lap.

That won't work.

So we'll soon hear how The New Guy is better. I won't believe it. Georgia already was making progress.

As seen at ESPN.com ...

Hey everyone. I'm in Kentucky this week for an allegedly relaxing week off before we start getting cranked up for Media Days, though some really sweet World Cup action will fray my nerves.

I hope you know about my little World Cup venture: Gannett World Cup.

So why am I writing this post? Oh, yes. "News."

Chris Low, a righteous dude who blogs for ESPN.com, today posted a list indicating how many national titles (in all sports) owned by each of the Southeastern Conference men's programs.

His source is the SEC office.

Within that countdown, I came across this:
Auburn: 9
* Eight in swimming (1997, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009), one in football (1957).

Alabama: 8
* Eight in football (1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979, 1992, 2009).
Thoughts:

a.) Wow.

b.) Finally -- someone recognizes the correct number of titles at Alabama.
