Hey everyone. In an continuation of Friday's delayed game, Auburn beat Alabama 3-1 early this afternoon. That is the Tigers' second win of the series and ended the Crimson Tide's conference championship hopes.

Your Auburn Tigers of baseball notoriety rallied for a 3-2 win against Alabama on Thursday night. Brian Fletcher, whom you see pictured above, drew a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning to seal the deal. Fellow Advertiser hack Tim Gayle had this to say about last night's drama: AUBURN -- The seventh blown save of the season was likely the final blow to Alabama's Southeastern Conference title hopes. You can read the rest of the story here: Tigers tag Tide bullpen Photo credit: Todd Van Emst/Auburn University 5.13.2009Gulley speaksHey everyone. Anthony Gulley, an Auburn football signee, helped Brantley High win the 1A state championship today. Afterward, he spoke briefly with the HABOTN about his football pursuits. On what he's been doing since signing with Auburn in February: "It's been all about baseball and academics. I tried to spend a few months no thinking much about football and just enjoying my senior year." On his academic situation: I'm in good shape. I got As and Bs in all my classes, so I'll be at Auburn this summer. I'm reporting on June 21." On what he'll be doing between now and then: "Working out and running." On what his workouts will include: "They sent me a workout schedule. It has all the things they think I need. It's stuff like Olympic lifts and power cleans. It's more about running. I'll be doing a whole lot of running." On his expectations this fall: My expectations? To be part of a great program that's getting better. This offense needs speed. I'm pretty fast now and I'll be faster when I report. I just want to have a chance to play." Basic update
Hey everyone. I've been working on AHSAA softball and baseball stuff the past two days. I haven't been able to HABOTNize as much as I'd like. It sucks.
My goal is to catch Anthony Gulley, the Auburn wideout signee, after Brantley's game at Riverwalk Stadium today. The Bulldogs are playing for the 1A state championship and Gulley is one of the team's star players. I'd like to see how things are going with him -- particularly in regard to academics. Talk with you more in a bit. UPDATE @ 3 p.m.: Brantley just won Game Two and clinched the 1A state championship in the process. Gulley scored the tying run during the Bulldogs' clinching rally during the eighth inning. 5.11.2009Projecting the 2009 football roster
Hey everyone. So a few weeks ago, we reviewed the Tigers' 2008-09 scholarship allocations to get our bearings. It proved helpful in some ways.
Let's take it one step beyond that. Below find what I expect to be Auburn's 2009-2010 allocation chart. This should give you a better feel for where Gene Chizik has leigitmate depth and where The Holes may lie. It'll be obvious. For this exercise, I'm assuming the signees will qualify. A few of them won't, of course, but it's pointless for me to alter numbers based on academic projections. Hey everyone. Auburn managed to snap its nine-game SEC losing streak on Sunday with a win at Kentucky. That didn't provide much help to the Tigers' postseason chances, which now are dissolved.
Auburn is in 10th position with a 9-18 conference record. Vanderbilt, currently in 8th place, is 12-14. The SEC tournament includes the top eight teams. Even if Auburn sweeps Alabama this weekend, that won't be enough to pull beyond Vanderbilt. I doubt you're shocked; Auburn hasn't qualified for the tournament since 2003. I'm back in the house. Sorry for the lack of thread on Saturday. There were some administrative issues at play and I was annoyed. That's all I'm going to say about that. We'll begin reviewing The Week That Was later today. We also want to direct good tidings to Ian Rapoport, author of the outstanding Rap Sheet, who was married on Saturday. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY: All of us at the HABOTN want to wish the moms out there a great morning/afternoon/night. I'm thankful for my mom. Without her altrustic intercession, I wouldn't be here today. I'll bet you have a similar story to tell. MARK RICHARD LEFT: I was somewhat forlorn last week upon learning that Mark Richard was leaving his post in the Auburn athletic department to become AD at Gannon University. The school is located in Erie, Pa., which isn't far from Richard's hometown. He arrived at Auburn in '99 as an NCAA compliance guy and broke the mold ... by always being in a good mood and never viewing reporters as the de facto bad guys. It's an approach shared by only a few of his Auburn co-workers. I'll miss him being around. MIKE GRIFFIN LEFT: Auburn's long-time men's golf coach ended his run after a 25th season. He's going to stay on as the program's director of golf -- I have no idea what that means -- and the search for a new coach will start one of these days. I don't know Griffin personally, but he was pretty cool when the NCAA Championships were held at Grand National back in ... 2001? He also didn't view reporters as de facto bad guys. That's the sign of a pro in my book. Photo credit: Todd Van Emst/Auburn University |
